You might want to edit that; such a flagrant flame might even be bannable.
I think that Anderson's SW books were some of the closest in spirit to Lucas' films, and the YJK and JJK books were great fun. I do feel, however, that the new Dune books are quite awful.

the king of superweapons and master of unbelievable coincendences, which i am sure he thinks are funny, but leave me cold. liked him at first, but as i thought about it more, he is only average. darksaber's climax with the weapon falling apart was crappy, as was the going back to all the old planets and lo and behold! it's a one armed wampa! what a co-in-ki-dink! not a bad writer, just nothing special.

Zahn used Coincedences far more, and the "Superweapons" aren't so super when you think about it, Suncrusher aside.

Has anyone read his book
Blindfold
?
That was a spectacular read. It really did surprise you at every turn. The depth that he went into Franz Dokken's character was magnificant.

no KJA's superweapons are not that super, but he does use them quite a bit. and i think that, while zahn does use coincedence, KJA uses it far more.

I think that KJA is a fine writer, who wrote some books that many don't like. It is difficult writing in another person's world. Plot points and developments also come from the Lucas Empire (if I understand correctly). His books in Star Wars are not my favorite, but being a bad writer . . . he's been published a lot more than anyone else here.

He's a writer.I'm not.I still think he sucks.But I also prefer the 1950's sci-fi writers.Sci-fi was at its peak then.

I don't think he is a bad writer, but his ideas sometimes are a bit lame. The IG-88 Death Star thing still makes me wake up in a cold sweat some nights. Sometimes...I think of that Imperial who wants the nose job...and I cry.

RE: The Official Kevin J. Anderson & Rebecca Moesta Discussion Thread
I can see why KJA and his wife get beat up a little bit by the critics, and yes, the super weapons/coincidence situation does get a little tiring. But then again, so was the whole new-Grand-Admiral/Dark Jedi-every-other-week ploy.
It's like the line in The Mummy Returns.
"Let me guess, he wants to take over the world..."
"How'd you know?"
"That's always the story..."
Or something to that effect. Anyhoo...
I thought the Jedi Academy Trilogy books were okay, but my favorite creation was that of the Young Jedi Knights series. For the sophisticated reader, these will seem like kiddie books (anyone past middle school can probably read them in about three hours). But each book had a halfway decent plot, and Jacen, Jaina, Tenel Ka (my favorite), Lowie and company seemed like fairly realistic teenagers...I know my friends and I used to have adventures of similar nature...
I first read Star Wars books for fun, but once I decided to read the Young Jedi Knight books, it really sparked my interest (I was about the same age as the YJK, so I could relate). Mr. and Mrs. Anderson succeeded in at least one case, in developing the teenage children of the Solos and their friends.

RE: The Official Kevin J. Anderson & Rebecca Moesta Discussion Thread
First: I've met them both, and in person Kevin Anderson is a very nice man. And obviously some people like his books or he would not still be writing them.
That said I can't stand his writing. Star Wars and X-Files both, I was bored silly. I wanted to grab him and scream "SHOW, DON'T TELL!" His prose falls flat on the floor and lies there. His original characters range from flimsy to cartoonish. I'm not quite sure what people mean when they say he stayed close to the spirit of the movies except that possibly he repeated what the movies did, 'only more so.' The Death Star blows up planets? Well, the Sun Crusher blows up entire systems! Darth Vader was a powerful Sith Lord? Well, Exar Kun is even MORE powerful! Luke was very strong in the Force at a precociously young age? Well, Kyp Durron is even stronger AND younger! Grand Admiral Thrawn was a tactical genius, and Mara Jade a red-haired, green-eyed agent of the Empire? Well, Daala is an even bigger tactical genius AND she's a babe with red hair and green eyes and she was sleeping with Tarkin but that has absolutely nothing to do with her promotion. (That last bit pretty much wiped out any credibility Daala had with me. The fact that she had very little to back up the genius claim didn't help. She keeps getting foiled by Han and a KID? This is now Scooby-Do? "I'd have destroyed the Republic, if it weren't for those meddling kids!")
I will say that the science and tech is usually spot-on in his books, and if you have ever worked for the government the Maw installation is downright hysterical. (I know these people. I have worked with them.) The JAT is a quick light read, but it reads like a fairly well-done fan fiction.
