Note 1: With hugs to the talented VaderLVR64 for...

a. Creating the marvelous Jinn family - Amri-Lon Jinn, Lenora, Exeldor, And Jesetta belong to her. She created them in her fic 'Far From Home' - of which this fic is an off-shoot.

b. Letting me play with them. grin Thanks love !

Qui and Obi belong to GL, of course.

Note 2: The title is a variation of the 'Elysian Fields' - I merely took some fanficcer license and changed it a bit. I did it keeping in mind the theme of the warrior coming back home...and because of the planet in question - I think it fits the description.

Hope you like it.

*************

The Fields of Elysia

He sat down by a luxuriant Petri bush, relaxing under the shade of a straggling pulmé tree.

In front of him, vast fields stretched out as far as his eyes could see, their borders defined by bright markers. Not that it mattered—all the fields up to the Meneri Hills, rising gently in the distance were his. Further away to the right, River Meneri twirled its way towards the sea, glinting in the sunlight. Blue skies spread their way above, broken occasionally by a swarm of lazy shimmer-flies.

Amri-Lon Jinn leaned his chin on his sturdy stick—cut from the very same pulmé tree now giving him shelter—and gave vent to a sigh. It was not a sign of weariness, despair or dismay…but rather one of content. Digging his booted feet into the rich soil below, he relaxed further.

He had reason to.

The Goddess had been remarkably good to him. From his humble beginnings, he had managed to scratch a living that had yielded great success. He was now the owner of some of the richest, most fertile lands in the Gergen sector; a fact that had simultaneously increased his social status. He had a son and a daughter—both healthy, wealthy enough in their own right, aside from what they would receive upon his passing, his grandchildren …and then there was Lenora—his wife; the warm light that lit up their comfortable home. Rare indeed was a marriage that still sustained all the happiness that had existed at its inception—if anything, the bond had strengthened, fortified by the numerous joys and sorrows that they had witnessed over the years. They had had their share of illnesses, and both were frailer now—by the Goddess, but we are old—but the last, final coldness would take some time to come, he thought.

Far above him, a day-bird twittered. If death must approach, then this would be the right time. When all was quiet, and peace prevailed. For he was happy.

Am I, he wondered. Was there not a secret ache within him? Did not Lenora share that tiny pin-prick of emotion, every night, before she went to bed? Gods, after all these years, after so many events…after a son and daughter…

It was pointless, he knew. Pointless, and irrelevant, to think of something—someone, decades after that presence had departed. Departed for a life that he could not give—would not give, if truth be told, again. He was a farmer, and he excelled with plants, and if his Lenora was happy enough to forsake the life she had been born to, and had spent her years with him happily…there was no reason to suppose that he—the One that had left—would have thought the same. Especially when The Little One was gifted in a way none in his own family…or anyone he knew were.

The decision had been taken when The Little One was only a few months old; neither he nor Lenora had regretted it—well, most of the time. Little One was meant for greatness, for honour, for adventure…for others. His life would be well-spent. Indeed, judging by the rather garbled version of reports they gathered over the holo-news, and by rumours that trickled into even his peaceful little farmland from their neighbours, the Jedi were doing enormous good—it was what they were meant for. He had known this for years—and his heart often swelled with a relief and pride hard to suppress, when he thought of The Little One being a part of that great Order.

Little One, he humphed, sweeping his long white hair into a sturdy nerf-tail. The Little One would hardly be little now. But the epithet had lingered. Somehow, it was easier to think of him, that way.

Sometimes, he heard names—names and titles that meant little to a farmer tucked away into a corner of his home-world. Naboo might mean a great many things to the Trade Federation and Senate politics; to him, it was home, and it offered a means to gather information. He heard of disputes, of quarrels among the mighty, of Kings and princes who required Jedi assistance; of worlds that threatened to spin into chaos without help from those gifted beings. He wondered often if The Little One had been a part of many of them. If he still lived. Goddess, he breathed unevenly. He must live. He must.

He forced his mind into other, less disagreeable channels. How had he fared? Was he a warrior? A diplomat? Would he command the same dignified respect that Master Bortan had, all those years ago?

Would he be tall, like him, or short like his petite mother? Loud-voiced, like him, or soft and sombre, like Lenora? Would he have a sense of humour? Would he be a stiff and unemotional droid—as the Jedi were often thought to be? Gods, had he even kept his given name? Once or twice he fancied he had heard that name whispered among those in higher echelons…he could not be sure. But he did remember the thrill of pride that had kept him somewhere among the clouds of Naboo, for a few days. Lenora had teased him unmercifully about it the whole day…and had wept silent tears that night.

He shook his head. He was getting on in years; memory did not serve him as well as it used to. Except in the case of That One.

If I could but see him once. If he were to come here, on some mission…

His heart would finally be at peace. He would have realised the dreams of years—life could hold nothing more.

He sighed, knobbly fingers tracing an absent pattern on the soil. A tiny flower fluttered to the ground—it reminded him of a bouncy child, perched on the lap of a Jedi Master, holding a flower to the air…wishing to go far away, perhaps. And he had. To worlds he would never know.

‘You will never see him again,’ had been the Jedi Master’s parting words.

And they had not.

Why will you not leave me be? He asked silently of he knew not who. Why can’t I forget? I must. These memories are pleasant, in the beginning…but they ache more and more now. I thought I had recovered…but it seems that I never will.

It was getting late, midday was approaching. Exeldor would be waiting. So would Jesetta—he remembered, with a jolt, that she had promised to visit him and Lenora that day. And he had spent the Goddess knew how much time, in memories of a grimy child who had liked to eat leaves.

He gave himself a shake and stood up slowly, forsaking the aid of a stick—the day Amri-Lon Jinn needed a stick to assist him in getting up would be the day he stopped living—he kept it with him only because Exeldor insisted that he do so. Silly boy.

He had stepped down from the mound of dirt, and was walking to meet the trail that would lead homewards…

…when a shriek stopped him.

Danger, was the first thought that slipped into his mind. Someone in danger. Who? What…?

He had already begun walking towards the source of the sound, when he heard the boyish shriek again. His pace quickened…until he heard the shriek dissipate into a gurgle of laughter. Laughing? Who was laughing?

As he neared a particularly thick cluster of trees, he remembered that the Meneri wove it way through this particular section, dividing itself into two or three smaller arms, before meeting again, on its journey to the sea. The one he was nearing was called Meneri-jeh…

“…that was too small. I expected a bigger target.” The voice was soft, cultured.

Amri-Lon stopped, feeling sheepish. A half-smile touched his lips; he turned away.

“You’re used to remotes; you can’t slice up a toru fruit?”

The second voice was deep, rich—suddenly, Amri-Lon felt that he had to stop.

He inched back to the trees, parted the thick foliage, and peered through the greenery.

A not surprising scene met his eyes; a young man, his head full of red gold hair was standing on the river bank. His back was turned to Amri-Lon, so he could not see what the boy was doing—but it was obvious that the young man was holding something. To the boy’s right, seated in the waist-high water of the Meneri-jeh, was a man…fully clothed, with hair and beard dripping wet from the water. His face was turned at an angle, but his tone held a hint of laughter in it, and it was obvious that the deep voice had been his.

It was a common enough sight—there was something about the Meneri that made all passers-by take an impromptu dip in it; he and Exeldor had done it often enough. These two had probably had the same idea. And yet, there was something about they way they stood, their attire…it seemed familiar to him. As though he should know...

He shook his head, feeling vaguely intrusive—when he saw something that rooted him to the spot, and all thoughts of leaving fled.

The young man had turned to face the older—and Amri-Lon gaped, as he saw that he held a sword of...light? Shimmering blue light that seemed to glint off the trees, the water…it cast an eerie glow over the river’s surface. At the appearance of the bar of light, the man in the river threw up a small object—the toru fruit in question probably—and as Amri-Lon watched, transfixed, the boy twirled the 'sword' gracefully, tracing a dizzying, intricate pattern of weaves through the air...and a second later the fruit toppled onto the ground, split into tiny chunks. Such was the force of the sword-weave that the fruit had flown in a dozen different directions…and one of them plopped into a squishy mess on the unknown intruder, standing half-concealed behind the trees.

"Urk," uttered Amri-Lon involuntarily, feeling the pulpy mess on his forehead.

As the young man turned in response to his half-hearted exclamation, Amri-Lon was aware of only one thing—the thrill of exultation that spread its warm fingers through his chest.

Jedi.

To be continued, of course. happy

Damn straight you are going to continue it. Oh, this was lovely. The descriptions and the way he kept thinking about his son, his little one and how he ached to see him again. You did an excellent job of the loss that he never seemed to get over. And now he is going to get his wish. Cool.

Eagerly awaiting your next post.

Ah ha, the chains hold you still, I see wink

I love this, and I can't wait to see how it folds out. I'm selfishly interested to see how Qui-Gon's family will take to Obi-Wan, and how Obi-Wan, with his penchent for feeling somewhat ousted from Qui-Gon's affections, will take to playing the outsider again. Could cause a slight rift, I'm thinking...

Lovely work. If you are very good us hungry fanatics will let you away from the PC for ten minutes every week. But only if you are good. love

That was so lovely...you captured the tranquility of a summer's day beautifully. Loved how that led into thoughts of the son he'd given away.

This started so serenely...somehow, I doubt that'll continue. tongue

Ack!

NEW STORY! NEW STORY! NEW STORY! NEW STORY!!!!!

And I was informed! ~blush~

~bows~ Thank you Master ithesock!

~pounces on the new story and reads eagerly~

Wah!

Another wonderful peice of work! When do we get another post???

Ah! Poor Amri and Lenora! I feel very sad for them. C'est tres triste! They gave away thier "little one", who is no longer so little... and has a little one of his own in a manner of speaking.

What in the world is Master Qui-Gon doing to make his apprentice yell so that Amri believes that the boy is being murdered? ~sighs~ It's a good thing that I know that Qui and Obi love eachother, or I might have been really worried there for a moment.

I really can't get enough of the banter you creat between our two favorite Jedi. So I must once again compliment it.

Amri's reaction to the fruit and then to the realization that they are Jedi are wonderful.

I wonder how he'll react when Qui annouces himself and his padawan.

~ponders~

Qui: I am most sorry. We were involved in our excerises... I do hope no harm was done?

Amri: ~brief pause of amazment.~ No! No, not at all.

Qui and Obi: ~bow~

Qui: Let me introduce ourselves, this is my Padawan learner, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and I am Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

Amri: ~thunk~

Obi: Look what you've done now Master...

~end ponderings and giggles~

I really can't wait for more!

This looks like it will become just as wonderful as "Leaves"!

Keep it up Master!

With all devotion,
Seven
