	I am posting this for my best friend. I will be sending your reviews to her. Title: The End Author: LdyMlissa Disclaimer: I do not own Star Wars or any of the creations, nor do I own Ride of Your Life. ~~ “Wishing on a shooting star, But dreams alone won’t get you far. Can’t deny your feelings anymore. The world is waiting right outside your door. What are you waiting for?” Luke stared up at the cloudless sky. Somewhere in the stars that glimmered above him, the Yuuzhan Vong were waiting, silently preparing to strike. This was it. This was the end. “It’s time.” Luke turned at the soft voice and stared at his wife. Her green eyes were lit with the intense fire that burned within her, the fire that had ignited his soul when he fell in love with her. He walked over to her and gathered her in his arms and held her tight. “I know.” Was all she whispered as she gazed up at him. ~~ Jacen stared out over the crowd that had gathered to hear his Uncle Luke speak. Many believed this would be the final battle. Jacen hoped it would be. He was tired of fighting. He glanced over at Tenel Ka and then quickly diverted his eyes, memories of their last conversation ringing in his ears. ”Doesn’t it mean anything that I love you?” Tenel Ka touched his cheek. “It means everything Jacen. But, my people, my place, my position.” “Even the Queen Mother of Hapes has the right to love.” “And she does love with all her heart.” “Then don’t turn away from me.” “I must.” Tenel Ka lowered her hand and stepped back. “We have a battle to prepare for Jacen. Your mind must be clear.” Jacen looked down at his hands. “I see.” “May the Force be with you Jacen.” Tenel Ka motioned to the door. “Shall we?” Jacen nodded, “May it be with you as well.” He said as they headed towards the gathering area to wait for Luke’s speech. Jacen didn’t see Tenel Ka watching him. Her heart was battling her mind in silence. She knew she loved Jacen, she always had, yet it was so much more complicated than he could understand, more complicated than even she could understand. She glanced back over at Jacen as Luke walked in. Jacen didn’t see Tenel Ka glance at him as he closed his eyes to focus his thoughts on the upcoming battle, his heart still longing for the one thing he believed lost to him. ~~ Jag glanced around the room, studying the others as Luke spoke. His eyes landed on a small figure flanked by Han and Leia. He studied her haunted eyes. She had been through more than most of them had been, including losing her first love. Jag couldn’t imagine. He didn’t know what drew him to her, but he wished that he could comfort her somehow and let her know that she was still loved, more than she knew. ~~ Tahiri glanced around. She wished Anakin could be there. He’d have loved this, the excitement, the tingling in the air. She took a deep breath willing the tears not to come. Willing her mind to stay with her and not leave her as it had done so many times. She felt her breath catch as she noticed two piercing green eyes staring at her. Why would he be watching her? She studied him, unaware that the racing heart and shortness of breath she felt could be anything more than nerves. It was just nerves after all, wasn’t it? ~~ Han squeezed his wife’s hand. “Worried?” “Always.” “Scared?” Leia looked up into her husband’s eyes and nodded, holding back the tears she felt welling inside. She was scared for the universe as she knew it, for her friends, her family and most of all her children, her precious children. “Me too.” Han whispered, raising her hand to his lips and kissing it, a tear falling onto it as she did. They had lost so much already, his best friend, their youngest son. He didn’t know if they could handle the loss of their twins, either of them. ~~ Jaina tried to listen to her Uncle, but the Force around her was just ebbing with the emotions of those she loved. She looked around the room and tried to focus. She could feel so much sadness, fear, and worry. It was almost overwhelming. You listening to the head honcho Goddess? Jaina looked over and glared at Kyp. She’d let her shields down for a moment to listen to those around her. Are you? Kyp grinned watching her. She was his Goddess, whether she recognized it or not. He had known they were bound for more the first time he’d laid eyes on her. He held onto the knowledge that one day, the time would come and she too would know what he already did. Jaina watched as a grin crossed Kyp’s lips. She shook her head. The man was absolutely infuriating. He was the only one who knew how to get under her skin and he knew it. She couldn’t stand that about him, yet at the same time, she found that she couldn’t seem to pull away from him either. It was the only part of her life, of herself where she wasn’t in control. ~~ “Come on here’s your chance, Don’t let it slip right through your hands. Are you ready for the ride of your life? Your dreams are riding on the wind, Just reach out and pull them in. Get ready for the ride of your life, The ride of your life.” Tenel Ka watched as Jacen stood up at the end of Master Skywalker’s speech. For a moment, she believed he would come over to her. Tenel Ka closed her eyes and shook her head, what did it matter? She’d rejected him despite her heart’s protests. She watched him move over to his family. They needed to say their goodbyes, silent prayers that it would not be forever. Silently Tenel Ka gathered her strength and turned away leaving the hall to take her rightful place at the head of the Hapan fleet. ~~ Leia held onto her twins, fighting the urge to cry. She’d already lost one son to this war, and with every battle, the reality that she could lose another hit harder. She just couldn’t bear to lose another. “No foolish stunts and no heroics.” Jacen nodded silently still holding his mother’s hand as they all turned to stare at Jaina. Jaina stepped back slightly, “What?” Han rested a hand on his daughter’s shoulder. “May the force be with you both.” He looked over at Jacen. “And with you.” Jacen whispered, Jaina nodding her agreement. ~~ Tahiri moved silently away from the Solo family, letting them say their goodbyes. As much as they insisted she was one of them, she still felt like an outsider. Quietly she moved outside the stonewalls and into the cool night air, the damp grass beneath her feet. She stopped and stared ahead at another who’d had the same thought as she. Jag turned sensing someone watching him. He said nothing to the small figure, just watched. “I’m… I’m sorry. I’ll go.” Tahiri whispered, starting to turn away. “Wait.” Jag stepped closer to her, “It’s okay. I was just, thinking.” “Do you think Master Skywalker’s right? That this is the last battle?” Tahiri asked, unconsciously moving closer to him. “I hope so Tahiri.” Jag rested a gently hand on her shoulder and looked up at the stars above. Tahiri looked up, but not at the stars. “Me too.” ~~ “Kyp.” Kyp turned away from his X-wing. He knew the voice already though, “Master Skywalker.” “Luke.” Kyp raised his brow, “You know something I don’t?” Luke grinned, “No. I just wanted to talk to you.” Kyp set down his tools and walked over. “Alright.” “I know that you and I haven’t always agreed in the past Kyp, but I want you to know that it’s been an honor having you fight along side of me.” “Now you’ve got me worried.” “No reason to be concerned.” Luke reached his hand out. “May the Force be with you.” Kyp took Luke’s hand and shook it, “And you as well Luke.” ~~ Mara sat in the makeshift bedroom that she shared with her husband. She held the picture of Ben close to her and gently stroked his cheek. All of this was for him, his world, for the future he might – NO – Mara corrected herself, the future he would have. She took a deep breath and slowly stood up as she set the picture down on the bed. It was time. ~~ “In your heart you know what you must do. You only got yourself to answer to. Don’t let fear of falling hold you down. Your spirit’s flying high above the clouds. You’re glory bound.” Jacen stood watching the battle, guiding ships to where they were needed. He winced as he watched another ship explode. Each pilot was like a flame within him and Jacen’s responsibility was to keep each one lit. Sometimes he failed. Jacen! Uncle Luke? Jacen couldn’t see any danger to his family, yet the concern in Luke’s voice was unmistakable. There’s been a breech. Jacen didn’t need to hear more. He could feel them behind him as he turned, saber in hand, easily blocking the incoming blow. Jacen flipped over his attacker’s head and smoothly began fighting the small group of Yuuzhan Vong surrounding him. He quickly closed off himself from the other pilots and those he loved to prevent them any undue worry. They had their own battles to fight. He focused quickly upon those among him, sensing four of them and no more anywhere else. He thrust his saber taking out the closest attacker and then turned to meet the next. As he did, he felt the unmistakable sharp pain of stud bugs meeting flesh. He felt his leg buckle and his balance thrown forward as more hit his shoulder, causing him to stumble. He heard the clang of his saber hit the cold floor and watched as it slid far from his grasp. Jacen! Jacen closed his eyes at the voice, feeling it pull at his heart. He’d thought he’d shut them all out, but hers was the only one he couldn’t. She was too much a part of his heart. Was it possible, he wondered as he called his saber to him with the Force. As he opened his eyes and turned to face the Yuuzhan Vong standing above him he knew it was too late. The war cry of the Vong filled his ears as he stared at the staff coming down at his head. ~~ Kyp felt the emptiness as Jacen shut himself off from the group. He silently sweared as he watched another X-wing light up. “Looks like you’re in charge Goddess.” Jaina swallowed her concern for her brother. She knew something was wrong or he wouldn’t have closed himself off. “As always.” Jaina said as she banked left toward what they believed was the main Vong cruiser. Kyp followed his Goddess without question. ~~ Jag watched as the pilots became scattered, attempting to reorganize themselves. He moved in towards the base to assure that no other breeches would occur. He silently hoped that the first one failed. Some thing, some people, were irreplaceable. ~~ Han glanced over at Leia. “I don’t know.” She whispered, fighting back tears of anger. “It’s Jacen.” Han said gently, “He’s too bull headed to give into them now. He’s your son.” Leia took a deep breath and nodded. “Jaina. We can’t help Jacen now, but we can help Jaina.” Han grinned, “As you wish.” He eased the Falcon towards where he’d last seen his daughter’s X-wing. “That girl had better stay out of trouble.” “She is your daughter.” Leia said with a slight smile. “That’s what worries me.” ~~ Tenel Ka held tight to the rail, her knuckles white. She couldn’t feel Jacen in the Force anymore. She had felt the danger and the brief moment of doubt he’d had but then, all she felt was an aching emptiness in her heart, but he wasn’t gone. Tenel Ka opened her eyes, was he? ~~ Luke saw the explosion and felt the jolt as Mara handled the Vong skippers that were on his tail. “Thanks Jade.” “Can’t lose you now Skywalker.” Mara eased along side of him, “Are you getting anything?” “No.” Luke’s voice held a tone of concern. “Jaina?” “Headed for the main ship.” “Well, what are we waiting for?” Mara eased her ship in Jaina’s direction grinning as she heard a chuckle from Luke as he followed her. ~~ “Come on here’s your chance. Don’t let it sip right through your hands. Are you ready for the ride of your life? Your dreams are riding on the wind. Just reach out and pull them in. Get ready for the ride of your life.” Jaina hit the main Vong cruiser with two shots, watching as a shot from Kyp followed, causing some slight damage to the ship. She veered off quickly. Luke and Mara were working on keeping any skips off of hers and Kyp’s tail. “Be right with you Goddess, got one that broke through.” Jaina eased her ship around and watched as Kyp soared upwards, a single Vong skip on his tail. “Hurry it up, I’m waiting.” “Alright already Goddess.” Kyp took a dive. He’d heard Luke say he was coming in to take care of it, but neither man expected what happened next. As Kyp let his ship dive downward, he barely caught site of the torpedoes coming from a hidden area headed towards him. He tried to bank, but felt the ship shudder beneath him as one of the torpedoes caught his tail. “I’m hit.” Jaina felt her breath catch in her throat as she heard Kyp’s words. He couldn’t be. She watched as smoke issued from the rear of his fighter. “Eject Kyp.” Their uniforms would protect him long enough for him to be picked up. She could already see the Falcon heading in the direction Kyp was going. She watched as Kyp rounded a large piece of debris, flames shooting out the back. She hit her button, “Kyp! Eject!” Mara and Luke were covering her as they hurried away from the cruiser to regroup. Jaina glanced over, no longer able to see Kyp’s ship, only a small shape resembling the Falcon. I love you Goddess. Jaina heard her scream as she watched a fireball explode in front of what she knew was the Falcon. She turned her ship away and looked at the Vong cruiser, damaged, but still in working condition. Tears running down her cheeks she aimed at it with a heart filled with vengeance. ~~ Tahiri staggered feeling the impact of Jaina’s scream and what she’d seen through the Force. She shook her head. Kyp was gone. She just couldn’t believe it. The man had been stubborn, and had his moments, but he’d proven himself more than once. She regained her balance and raced down the hall, hoping it wasn’t too late for Jacen. ~~ Luke sighed remembering the words he’d shared with Kyp before the battle. He’d honestly not known this would be the outcome. There had been so many lost that day, that Luke could no longer discern who was who in the Force. Think on it later Skywalker. We need to end this and now. Right Jade. Sorry. Don’t apologize, just get to work. Luke followed her in. He’d failed Kyp and possibly Jacen. He wouldn’t fail Jaina. ~~ “You’re on your way no looking back, There’s no future living in the past. You’re free at last. You’re free at last.” Jacen watched as the staff came towards his head as he brought the saber up to meet the blow, knowing he’d not be able to intercept it and hoping he could redirect it. He flinched as the staff approached his head but felt his breath catch as it suddenly stopped. The Yuuzhan Vong’s eyes went wide and he turned away, the staff falling to the side. Jacen watched as the Vong staggered back and he finally could see what had happened. Tahiri stood, a lit saber in her hand, and watched as the Vong collapsed to the floor. Jacen let his head drop back and he closed his eyes, his saber resting on his chest. ~~ “Got him Leia, close the bay.” Leia closed the bay and moved away from the Falcon’s controls after setting it on autopilot to go back to where her husband was. “Is he?” “Yeah, lucky bastard.” Han moved over to let Leia take over as he started to ease out of his evacuation suit and back to the controls. “How are they doing out there?” “Luke and Mara have their hands full with your daughter.” “Anything from Jacen?” Leia looked down and shook her head. “But I didn’t feel him leave.” “Then he’s holding his own.” Leia nodded as she pulled out a first aid kit. “Are we going back to base or to see if they need help?” “Gonna go help the rest of our family. Strap him in tight, might be a bumpy ride.” “Jaina?” “We’ll wait. She probably won’t listen anyway.” ~~ Jaina watched as the Vong cruiser slowly tilted in space permanently crippled from the last series of blows. She watched as several skippers collided out of control, confused. It was the end. She finally felt herself relax and she reached up to push her visor up, wiping away tears that came without warning. It was time to go home. It was time for a new life to begin and for the universe to rebuild. Could she? ~~ Tenel Ka watched as the Yuuzhan Vong cruiser began to disintegrate, small explosions starting at its underbelly and expanding. She turned at the cheers of her ships crew and watched as the rest of her fleet slowly gathered around the mother ship. She reached out in the Force, searching to resolve the one regret that was buried in her heart. Maybe, just maybe, she’d been wrong. ~~ Jag watched the explosion as it took out the last few Vong skippers attempting to land on the surface of the planet. He felt a sudden welling of pride, and yet an uneasiness. For the last few years all he’d known was this. What was there for him to go to now? ~~ Mara watched as the remaining ships gathered around Luke and Jaina. They’d won. The nightmare that had been their lives for so long was over. “Skywalker?” There was unmistakable joy, in Luke’s voice, shadowed by an unmistakable tone of grief as well, “Yeah Jade?” “Let’s go home.” Luke opened the channel to all of the ships. “Let’s bring them in.” Mara smiled and reached out to where a picture of Ben was attached to the panel of her X-wing. Finally, she’d have her family together again. ~~ “Come on here’s your chance. Don’t let it sip right through your hands. Are you ready for the ride of your life? Your dreams are riding on the wind. Just reach out and pull them in. Get ready for the ride of your life.” Tahiri helped Jacen down the hall to where the fleets were docking. “You should be going to the medical bay.” “I’m fine Tahiri.” “Yeah, right.” Tahiri looked Jacen up and down. The stud bugs had weakened him enough where if he were to try and use the Force to heal himself, it would make things worse. Jacen shook his head as she helped him into the bay. He stopped with her as his eyes fell upon the group disembarking from the Hapan cruiser. Tenel Ka stopped at the top and saw Jacen she moved a few steps farther down. Jacen Jacen watched her. He stumbled forward easing away from Tahiri’s hold. Tenel Ka moved down towards him quickly, trying not to run, but unable to hold back any longer. She could no longer deny her heart. Jacen stumbled again into Tenel Ka. She slowly eased him to the ground, unable to support him completely and held him to her. “I thought I had lost you.” Jacen touched her cheek and smiled. “I’m not that easy to get rid of.” “That is a fact, Jacen Solo.” Tenel Ka said before leaning down and embracing him in the kiss she’d been longing for longer then she would ever admit to. ~~ Tahiri watched as Jacen and Tenel Ka embraced, stumbling to the ground, blissfully unaware of the medical personnel starting to surround them as they embraced. She brushed tears away from her cheeks and looked up at the ceiling. It’s over Anakin. It’s finally over. She felt as if a weight lifted off of her shoulders and from her heart. As if he were saying goodbye, a voice whispering to her to move on and be happy. Jag silently walked over and gently touched Tahiri’s shoulder. “Tahiri?” Tahiri turned tears in her eyes, and without a word, threw her arms around him and just buried her head in his chest, with a quiet sob. Jag slowly eased his arms around her petite body and then kissed the top of her head. A new day was beginning, a whole new life was beginning. ~~ Jaina disembarked from her X-Wing and quickly tried to move away from all there and out the door. She just wanted to be alone to grieve. Jaina! Jaina didn’t turn. I don’t want to talk about it. Would you just wait a minute Jaina. Jaina turned and stared at her mother, “Please mother. I just…” She stopped looking up as her father disembarked with a med team followed by a stretcher. She looked at her mother as her father raced to join them. Goddess. Jaina heard the weak voice through the Force and looked at her parents doubtfully. “What your mother’s been trying to tell you is that he’s a bit crispy, but he’s alive.” Jaina ran past them. “Kyp!” The medical personnel stopped with the stretcher allowing Jaina to catch up to them. She stopped and looked at Kyp tears pouring down her face. Kyp looked at her, his brown eyes filled with pain. She gently touched his cheek, “I love you too.” ~~ Han eased his arms around Leia as he looked from Jacen and Tenel Ka and then to Jaina and Kyp. “They’re all grown up.” Leia smiled leaning back against her husband watching her children. “You’re finally noticing huh?” Han chuckled and kissed her head. “So do you think we’ll get some quiet time alone?” Leia turned to face her husband and cupped his cheeks in her hands. “We’d better.” Han smiled tightening his hold around her as he leaned down and kissed her passionately, everything around him vanishing until all that was left was the two of them. ~~ Luke looked around at everyone around him. It was a good feeling to see so much happiness coming from so many years that had been filled with nothing but pain. He walked over to Mara who smiled at him, “Ben?” “On his way home.” “We get to be a real family.” “Think you can handle it, a quiet unadventurous life?” “Let’s think about that.” Mara grinned easing her arms around her husband’s wife. “Skywalker and quiet life. Those aren’t two things that are synonymous.” Luke chuckled. “True, but I plan on having them be, for as long as possible.” He leaned in close his lips almost brushing hers. “Are you going to kiss me or not Skywalker?” “Just waiting for you.” He pulled her tight as his lips caressed hers in an embrace so familiar, yet at the same time filled with new life. ~~ “Your dreams are riding on the wind. 	First reply? Woohoo! This was great! Ok, you're evil cause I thought you had killed people off, but it was great! I loved the tension... tension in the beginning, tension in the end. You captured the "we're all about to die" idea so well that for a while I thought you were actually going to just kill EVERYONE off and make it one big death-fic.
