Another Chance

Summary:
Kyp and Jaina meet up again and they have a littel talk about the past

Rating: PG to be safe but I think it's really G

Characters: Kyp Durron, Jaina Solo, Jacen Solo

Disclaimer: Star wars, alas, does not belong to me, though I wish I was as rich as George Lucus and all those other authors. The song I use here is called "Give Me Another Chance" by Big Star and was the "duh" inspiration for this story.

Author's Notes: Here it is! This sequel is dedicated to Deneveon because she's the best reviewer ever! Sorry if this doesn't live up to the last one, but it took me just as long to write, if not longer, so it should be pretty good grin

present time is normal

the past is in itallics

lyrics are in bold

Kyp couldn't imagine a more uncomfortable situation to be in.

Well…there were worse things than having Jaina Solo lying on top of you. But then, people who would think that would probably have no idea about the background between the two of them, and would therefore be in no state to make any assumptions as to why there were both shocked and too scared to move.

Jaina's eyes were wide with a mixture of fear and surprise as she looked at him. Offhand, Kyp was glad that she hadn't smacked him, yet.

SMACK!

She rolled off him quickly, regaining her composure and standing up beside him, dusting herself off. Kyp's hand went tenderly up to his cheek as he used the other arm to prop himself up on his elbows.

"Fine greeting their, Goddess," he told her, trying to sound cheerful. Well, at least he was trying. She seemed to be taking this the completely wrong way and stopped making eye contact with him again.

"What in the..? Kyp what in the blazes are you doing here? Now is not a good time!" She started walking away from him but Kyp wasn't going to let her get away that fast. 3 weeks of searching only to find her, get slapped and loose her again. Kyp Durron would not be an idiot again.

Shaking off the slap he stood up quickly, catching up with her. "Well I could come back in another 6 months? Would you like me better then?"

He could sense Jaina's anger at his banting, and didn't blame her for it. This was his entire fault anyway. She had stopped but was still not turning to look at him.

"Incase you haven't noticed Kyp, We're in the middle of a war here! This isn't the time or the place to…to…" She trailed off. He saw her shoulder slump and heard her audible sigh through the explosions and blaster fire around them in the surrounding city.

"To what Goddess?" He reached a hand up on her shoulder but she jerked out of his grasp. A stab of pain went through him.

You feel sad 'cause I got mad
And I'm sorry, I'm sorry
Things I said made things seem bad

"Why are you here Kyp?" She bent down and started collection the things that had fallen from her bag when she had landed on Kyp. It hadn't been the exact theatrical entrance he had imagined for their first meeting after all this time, but it's not like he could have avoided it…

Another crash was heard around the corner and Kyp rushed across the war torn street into another alleyway where there was a minimal amount of cover.

He looked out on the scene of destruction as he saw Mon Calamari in flames. The last few rebels of the Vong had planned a surprised attack, even though the war was long over. But the attack had been so unexpected that despite that Mon Calamari was the stronghold of the Galactic Alliance (a substitute until Coruscant could be repaired), they had not been ready for the attack. Kyp had been on his way to Corrillia when he got the call from Han that Mon Calamari was in need of assistance, so Kyp placed his search for Jaina on hold to go to the assistance of the planet.

He hadn't done much good so far, as he was still trying to grasp what had actually happened. No word from any of the Skywalker's or Solo's had gotten to him since he landed, and he was getting worried about whether or not they were all okay.

Drawing his hood up around his face, Kyp looked out once more, seeing if the coast was clear. He saw a lone figure running down the street, a pack in their hands and their identity covered by a brown and black cloak, similar to a Jedi's robes. Kyp brushed up against the presence and found that there was nothing there, like a Vong's presence.

Kyp ducked back down into the alley way and began running towards it's opposite end. Normally he would have stayed to fight, but his lightsaber was dead and he only weapon right not was the force. He glanced back for a moment as he was running, checking to make sure the Von wasn't following him. But as he looked back, he heard a cal from right above him.

"Look out!"

Kyp looked up just in time to see a brown blur falling right towards him. He was so startled that before he knew it, the figure had landed on him and he fell back with a thud.

Kyp's head slammed into the ground and stars swam in front of his eyes. Recovering quickly he raised his hands to fend off the perpetrator but stopped short when he saw the hood of the figure drop and he met two eyes, which were very familiar.

"Jaina?"…

"Why do you think?" Kyp said, a little disgusted with her at the moment. He reached back to rub his bruised head, which he was now starting to feel the effect of Jaina's fall on. "Your father commed me as I was on my way to Corrillia. He said you guys needed some help."

Jaina tutted as she zipped up her bag. "Well we don't need any help from the likes of you, thanks." She stood up, positioning her bag on her back. She finally looked up at him by Kyp noticed she still didn't look him in the eyes. "Go home Kyp."

But don't worry
Cause it's gonna be alright now
Be okay
You know I just don't think before I speak

She turned to leave again but Kyp was at her side instantly. "Okay, so your still mad, I get that."

She let out a chuckle. "Oh mad doesn't even begin to cover it."

"Upset? Angry?"

"All of the above."

"Don’t tell me you were throwing yourself from a window because of me?"

He could sense as she rolled her eyes. "Hardly. This bag contains the rough draft documents of the new legislation constitution that the government has been writing up for the past few months. I was assigned to get them out of the building before they were destroyed. The window seemed the quickest way down so…"

"So you jumped out, praying that I would be there to break your fall so that you could break your neck? Oh I get it…"

Jaina huffed. "Not remotely. I was going to used the force to cushion the fall but I was so startled when I saw someone there that I lost my concentration."

Kyp reached back to rub the back of his head again. "Couldn't you have just taken the stairs or something?"

I've been looking for to find
Something to believe in my mind
And I thought it was you

"Jumping out of a window seemed more dramatic, besides," she shifted the bag on her shoulder and pointed out the lower floors of the building. "The Vong infected the lower floors with a type of virus, the kind that Mara had. If I hadn't jumped out the window, it would have reached my floor before I knew it."

They walked along the deserted ground of the alley for a few minutes before Kyp finally figured out something to say.

"I've actually been looking for you for a few weeks now," he admitted. "Though my traces put you in Corillia, no where near Mon Calamari. I definitely didn't expect to see you here."

He could see Jaina's smile on the side of her face. "Well they don't call me the Trickster for nothing."

Kyp realized he had no idea what to say next so he fell silent again and stopped walking. She stopped too when she noticed him.

"Why did you leave, Jaina? Without even telling me?"

All this time since you've been mine
I've been angry, so angry
Made it known I could make it alone
But I'm changing

Her anger was boiling. "How DARE you ask me that question Kyp? You think after what you did you had any right to know I was leaving? You made it perfectly clear about your feelings, I didn't think you would care…"

Jaina sat at the small desk in her quarters, a data pad in her hand as she tried to review the details of her latest assignment, but it was rather hard having someone constantly yelling at her through her doorway.

"It was totally and completely my fault Jaina…You know me well enough that I can be a prick sometimes! Please Jaina, just talk to me."

Jaina scowled at the doorway and tried to block the voice. Though she always kept her ear open, just incase he said it.

"I'm sorry Jaina…. I'm sorry I just kind of froze! It was so sudden! Give me another chance, Jaina!"

Ah! She thought to herself, throwing her data pad down. Boys are so clueless!

She got up and marched over to the fresher, started the water running and got ready to shower. As she closed the fresher door, she blocked out Kyp's voice completely, not having any more interest in his words.

She knew he would never say it…

"Care? Of course I cared? You must have heard all those nights when I was pounding on your door! Begging you to forgive me! What's it gonna take Jaina? What can I do?"

And I'm gonna be alright now
Be okay
You know I just woke up and I see the way

"Kyp!" She yelled at him. He had sensed her frustration and she finally let it out. "It's not the time or place! We're in a war here! Whatever you came here to do or say, I don't want to hear it."

She must have sensed the large bout of pain that shot through him as she yelled at him because she stopped walking and hung her head. Kyp's heart ached to reach up and gather her into a hug, but he restrained himself, she probably wouldn't take so kindly to that. Instead, he sent her a wave of apology through their force bond and whispered two words.

"I'm sorry."

She sighed aloud again and Kyp heard two rather large explosions from the street behind him. She didn't turn to him.

"That's not enough Kyp," she slowly turned to him, but her eyes focused on the street behind him. "You hurt me too much to thank that two little words are gonna change anything."

*This is it!* Kyp told himself. *This is where you say it! I love you Jaina! There, three words! Isn't that great!?*

But just like before, the words stayed in his head and didn't manage to get to his mouth and out. He found himself gaping at her, opened mouth like just before.

He saw Jaina roll her eyes and throw her hands up. "Ahh! Why do I bother!?" She turned again and walked a few more paces before Kyp recovered and his hand shot out to grab her arm.

"Let me go, Kyp," she said firmly.

Don't give up on me so fast
I see it's me that's wrong at last
Give me another chance

Kyp's eyes narrowed. "Maybe it would help if you looked me in the eye, Jaina."

He sensed a bout of anger well up in her again and she tore her arm away.

"I can't look you in the eye, okay?"

"Well why not?" Kyp didn't reach for her this time but just caught up with her and walked along side her.

"Because…because…oh I don't know!" She threw up her arms in exasperation and quickened her pace. Kyp reached out and grabbed her arm again, a harder grip this time that she couldn't pull out of.

"Is it because you're afraid, Jaina?" He asked her loudly.

She squirmed to get farther away from him but to no avail, his grip was too tight. Tears pricked at her eyes. "No!"

"Oh I think it is, I think you're afraid to really look at me, look at how I've been suffering with you gone. Look at how I have been in as much pain, if not more, with you gone-"

It's so hard just to stay alive each day
I really can't go on this way, oh no
Oh no

"Stop it! Stop it Kyp!" She cried out. Both of them went down as she collapsed to her knees in a fit of sobs. Kyp 's grip lessened as she stopped struggling, but he did not let go. They sat in silence for a few moments; Jaina's sniffling drowned out by the sounds of the battle all around them.

"Look at me Jaina…" Kyp pleaded. "I know I don't deserve it, but…please…please just look at me…"

"I can't…" Jaina said softly. "I'll…I'll fall in love with you all over again…"

"Again?" Kyp asked.

"When you first smiled at me…" she said softly. "Your smile made me say yes…"

"Hey Goddess!" Jaina rolled out from under her X-Wing, surprised to see Kyp Durron walking towards her, a kind of goofy grin on his face that didn't suit him very well.

"What are you up to Kyp?" she asked with a hint of a smile, going back to her work.

"Well I came here with a little proposition for you." He said it in a business like manner, well as business like as Kyp Durron can get.

"Oh? And what would that be?"

"I was wondering if you would like to have dinner with me tonight?"

Jaina's hand slipped off the gear she was tightening and she was so surprised that she tried to sit up and resulted in banging her head hard on the underside of the X-Wing.

"Ow…" Jaina moaned as she rolled out. Kyp squatted down and helped her sit up as she held her hand to her forehead.

"Alright there Goddess?" He asked with a hint of concern.

"I'm sorry, Kyp, I just banged my head against an X-Wing. What did you just say?" She squinted her eyes with pain, her hand still up to her forehead and her head pounding like crazy.

"I just asked if I could have the pleasure of you're lovely company at dinner tonight?"

Jaina moaned again. "Oh…that's what I thought you said…Look Kyp," she managed to shake it off a bit and move her hand so that she could look at him. "You do know who you're talking to right? Jaina Solo? Daughter of your best friend? Sister of your mortal enemy?"

"Hey Jacen and I get along pretty well now," Kyp said with a hint of defensiveness.

"Well I'll admit the death threats are getting down in number," Jaina said with a hint of a smile. She touched her forehead once more before sitting completely up and wiping her hands off with a nearby rag.

"Come on Jaina." She looked up as he called her by her real name. He flashed her a smile and his eyes twinkled. "It'll be fun, I promise."

She nodded…

Kyp's breath became a little sharper as she related the moment and he scooted closer to her.

"Oh, yes, that was an infamous day wasn't it? Too bad you weren't there for the best part…"

Kyp whistled as he walked down the hallways of the Rebel Dream. He was feeling rather good with himself at the moment, an aura a happiness that was quickly dispelled as someone down the corridor called his name.

"Durron?!"

He winced and stopped in his tracks. So it begins…I wonder who the first one's gonna be…

He turned to meet the eyes of Jacen Solo, which weren't half as pretty as his sisters.

"Jacen," he nodded politely.

"Cut the sucking up, Durron. Jaina just told me that you asked her to dinner tonight?"

Kyp tilted his head back as if to think about it. "Well…yes, yes I believe I did. 1900 in my quarters if you care on coming over to crash it. Though I'm not sure that would make Jaina very happy…"

Jacen's eyes bulged. "You're quarters!?"

Kyp frowned. "Oh you people make me sick…"

Jacen huffed and crossed his arms over his chest. "Well you've given no evidence to the contrary. People would probably expect that from you."

Kyp clutched his heart and acted as if he had been mortally hurt. "You wound me Jacen. Such harsh words are not becoming of a future brother in law." Kyp couldn't help but smile as Jacen fumed at his choice of words, which Kyp had picked deliberately.

Jacen stuck a finger in Kyp's face. "You watch it Durron. For some reason Jaina seems to like you but if you hut here I will not be responsible for what me or any member of my family does to you…"

"I had to go through another 10 or 20 of those before I could even reach my quarters that night…" Kyp looked over at her. "But it was worth it…"

She didn't look at him still.

"So you're might fall in love with me again. What's wrong with that?" he said with a hint of a smile.

She still refused to turn his way. "Because I know you don't love me back…because you were such a jerk, becau-"

Kyp silenced her by bringing her face around to kiss her soundly on the mouth. As he words cut off, he felt her tense with the close contact and a few tears from her eyes fell onto his cheeks. They kissed soundly and sweetly. Anyone who was looking on would have guessed they had been made for each other from the beginning. They fit so well, and looked so in love that even though there was not much passion or excitement to be found in such a simple kiss, you knew that this type of love doesn't come very often.

Kyp finally pulled back and, breathing heavily, found Jaina staring at him right in his eyes, one small tear running down her face.

"I love you…"

Hey...... Don't give up on me so fast
I see it's the end, it's wrong at last
Give me another chance

There he had said it, after all the worrying, all the heartache, all the mix-ups and the pain, he had said it when it really counted and when she needed to hear it the most.

She smiled at his words and a few more tears spilled from her eyes. They both because to chuckle slightly. Kyp reached up to wipe away Jaina's tears. She seemed to have trouble breaking eye contact with him now that she had made it in the first place.

Kyp pulled her into a fierce hug as his own tears began to fall. If felt so good just to hold her again, to be near her, to have her with him.

"Say it again…" she whispered as her head was on his shoulder.

He smiled.

"I love you Jaina."

Yeah that ended a little cheesy I guess but we all need a little bit of that once in a while grin

Jaina_and_Jag - Ain't that the truth? But I believe it's a scientific fact that boys are slower on the uptake than girls wink thanks for reading!

Princess1 - Thanks so much!

SaberBlade - Yeah I was afraid of writing Kyp maybe a little TOO clueless but I'm glad it came out right. I'm afraid that this is the end of these stories, but their plenty of J/K stories floating around for you to read grin
