	Yes yes, another story from my twisted little mind. I wanted something different to work on while I worked on the rewrites of my series... so here's something different. I'll add some more blabber about it up here later (timeframe and such)... but for now, here's the intro - MUAHAHAHAHAAH! STORY INFORMATION: Hehe~ alright, here's the deal. This is slightly post-NJO and has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with 'The Feigned'/'Simply Being Loved'/'Urbania's Void' ... it's AU from that series totally - this is a story I was working on after a plot bunny bit me. Hehe~ but that doesn't mean you won't see any familiar faces... And there will also be a lot more characters (original and canon) in the future of this story. I could not deal with that life anymore. Sitting, day after day, that same damn throne. The same piece of metal and crystal forming a devilish halo over my head. A crown. And what did it symbolize? Generations of women; scorning, angry, possessive -- how dare they. I could not bear to be a successor in a line of that. There was only one way I could get out of it. "Jacen!" His twin sister screamed for him from the other room, her voice shrill and disturbing. It made him cringe. Brandy-browns gazed up to the door, his mind debating on whether or not he should respond. Of course he would, but something told him he didn't want to. "Hurry! Get out here!" She was panicking. Jacen could feel it. His feet carried him out into the living room, where Jaina Solo was standing, frozen in shock near the family's holo-screen - one hand clasped over her mouth, the other floating towards the holo-screen, as if she could feel her friend one last time... "On Hapes today, the body of the Queen Mother was found in her bedchambers. Clothes from her wardrobe were strewn about in disarray, furniture was over-turned, but guards say there was no sign of a struggle. The situation is still being investigated and we'll keep you posted with any updates we recieve. The Hapan Council is currently debating on what should be done now and the people of the Consortium are in mourning over the loss of their trusted leader... She was an incredible woman, and she will surely be missed." Smiling slightly, the headshot they were using as the story was reported, was one from the latest banquet - it was a gorgeous smile, one people didn't normally see. When that holo was taken, she had been sitting beside Jacen Solo, eating her dinner. The image vanished... The clearly Hapan newscaster, seemed to attempt to gather his composure before turning to another news story, one that wasn't important at all. Vision blurred, breath escaping him, Jacen Solo couldn't do anything but collapse to the ground. "Why...?" ...only one way. And I actually do have some happy stuff in mind. Jaina_Solo_59: My history with fanfictions is quite evil, so it's normal for me to do something like this. But it's also normal for me to write things that seem one way, when they're really totally different. So keep your eyes peeled. 	ES: LOL~! Don't worry, here's more so it's not as "OMGWHAT?!" as before - even though it still kind of is. XD Hehe! DarthIshtar: Hahahaha!! ROFL! I know I torture my characters, but not THAT bad! Hehehehe! ----- Here's a little bit more. I believe the chapters in this story will vary in length - and this is a fairly short one. But yeah. Hehe~ __________ HALFWAY TO THE HEAVENS [[ chapter one An incessant grumble. It had sounded, non-stop, for thirteen hours straight. The low rumbling had disturbed the silence of the dim room as a heavy air drifted lazily around the closed chamber. Hot and sticky - the air slid over the lone soul seated on the edge of the bed. Nostrils flaring, glazed mahogany eyes flickered down to the monotonous growl. It was his stomach. Sitting in the same spot since two nights before, a bedraggled Jacen Solo... he didn't speak, he rarely blinked. It was a miracle he even remembered to breathe. Hundreds of dried trails streaked down his face, where tears had fallen during the previous sleepless nights and uneventful days. He had locked himself in his room and it seemed that no one had attempted to retrieve him since he found out about her. People had faintly checked on him through the Force, but that was all. They knew he needed to be alone. They knew he needed time. Countless occasions, since her death was announced, Jacen would concentrate as hard as he could and try to search her out in the Force - but as he feared, and unfortunatly expected, he found nothing. No sign of her, no trace. Nothing. It seemed quite disturbing to him. There was always a place for her in his mind, a place where her presence would always shine. It would surge throughout his body like a shield, like a security blanket. He always felt safe when it was there, comforted - he always felt whole. He had felt it go out and gently fizzle away that afternoon, but he thought nothing of it. She would occasionally close herself off from the Force, and close everyone off with it - she would want some time alone or some time to think straight. When Jacen heard about her death, he realized that that was what he felt when her presence vanished that day... And that made him sick. He could feel icy fingers tightening around his heart, squeezing mercilessly, as if to take his life as well. A twitch in his neck and his head moved a bit, he looked around the room. Solo was hunkered over, elbows on his knees, hands clasped together in between them. His feet had sunken in and planted themselves in the carpet and he felt as if his spine had bent to his current uncomfortable position. Altough he wasn't concerned for his comfort at this point, he found it a bit unnerving that he had been like this for two days. The strength to move wouldn't come to him though. The will wouldn't either. He felt he had no reason to move. "Maybe it's a bad dream..." His mumbling echoed numbly. He had been hissing the same things off and on for roughly the past forty-eight standard hours. None of what he said registered in his own head. He didn't even realize he was speaking half the time. Suddenly falling backwards onto the bed in what seemed like a spasm, or a major twitch, Jacen's gaze locked on the smooth ceiling, his eyes tracing the metallic surface back and forth. As he writhed around slowly on the bed, to try to find a somewhat comfortable position, he could hear joints popping and cracking - and he could feel the burn of the muscles that hadn't been moved in hours. The odd humidity and heat of the room wrapped around him possessively and shoved him off into a light slumber, his eyes drifting shut. When his lashes pulled themselves apart and his eyes opened to a dark blur, he had no idea how long he had been sleeping. Not for long most likely because the dusk that was hanging outside the window had turned into night, the stars above Corellia twinkling brightly. He could faintly make them out past the transperisteel of his window. A moan slipped through his pursed lips, pushing home the fact that he had nothing right now. He felt empty, he had no blanket of comfort floating over his system. Turning over on his right side, his eyes finally fell into focus and he about choked up at what he saw. The covers were twisted up and fanning out over a tan back, the linen sheets stopping midway up. The bare upper half was all smooth skin, no scratches, no blemishes - the shoulders, slowly rising and falling with heavy breathing or quiet sobs, Jacen couldn't tell which. Wavy copper hair fell across the pillow beside him, silky, soft... he wanted to reach out and feel it between his fingers. "Tenel Ka...?" His hand moved inches from it's spot under his neck, where he had it resting, but he stopped in a heartbeat. He didn't want to ruin this. What if it was a dream, an illusion...? Touching anything or moving could destroy it. So he just laid there, on his side, staring at the Queen Mother in front of him, in bed with him. It made him think of those nights they had spent together, secretly. Jacen Solo going to Hapes for a weekend visit with his good friend Tenel Ka, and some nights he would sneak up to the royal bedchambers where she spent a lot of her time, alone. A room seemingly a billion sizes too large for her. They would talk, reminisce, play sabacc, and in the end he would crawl under the silk covers with her, in the bed that was a hundred sizes too big and they would continue their conversations and jokes, Jacen wrapping her up in his arms. Those were the best nights of sleep he had... He had so much on his mind all the time, what with training to become a Jedi Master and all, but those vacations to Hapes seemed to clear his mind and put him at peace. Mostly because of her presence, and the fact that when she was physically near him he felt he could accomplish anything. No one knew about those nights they spent together. People had inklings of ideas about their public budding relationship, but no one had any idea about what went on during those long, comforting nights. As his eyes trailed over the image in front of him, he sighed -- it was all gone now. Dropping any willpower he had left, he reached out for her. As his fingers brushed her shoulder, his eyes narrowed. It was a cool, plasmic feeling... almost like a ghost. His touch caused this specter of the fiery haired Queen to turn over and face him, her granite eyes calm and relaxed. A morose smile formed and she placed her right hand on his left cheek, pulling herself closer to him. She looked insanely beautiful and it just made Jacen ache even worse. "...past the stars, Jacen. To the heavens..." It was a gentle whisper that snaked into his ears, and in the blink of an eye she was gone. With another sigh, he turned over, quietly mumbling of his sleep-depraved dreams and he could feel his eyes drifting shut once more. They opened later, it was still nighttime, but Jacen couldn't figure out how much time had passed since he had seen her - the ghost of her. Glances to each side of him proved that there was no Tenel Ka now, but on his right, the pillows, covers and sheets had been dishevled - as if someone had been in bed with him. Collapsing onto his back again, his eyes moved back up to the ceiling. He stayed exactly like that until morning. __________ Wee! 	Oh, how sad. Poor Jacen. Is she really dead? Maybe when she said past the stars and halfway to the heavens it was a secret code for someplace that only the two of them know about? Jacen is just too upset to realize it yet? What do you think? sigh I know, it never hurts to dream. green_eyes
