	Summary: Sometimes you can just tell what's wrong. Author's Note: This is my last one written. Another might come, someday, but probably not soon. If anyone has ideas for other potential repetitive ideas, or if someone wants to add to these, let me know, please. I'm sorta hesitant about this one…. It deals with a topic that necessitates lots of tact, & I did it from Jacen's perspective. I'm not practiced with either area. Be cruel with your criticism. Just don't blaspheme or swear, please! Enjoy! Crippling Secret: Order of series: • Leaking Heart - qualifying Readers' Choice Vignette, Winter 2004 • Flashing Night • Struggling Soul • Crippling Secret He knows. She has never said anything, but he does, anyway. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out, sometimes. Sure, each little thing might just be symptoms from a thirty-one-month captivity, but all together? He knows. He'd guessed the night he'd rescued her, when she'd shot up, awake— …trembling. When she wouldn't look at him. When she cried for him in her dream. When she clutched him, sobbing into his chest, he guessed. The next morning, he dropped a kiss on her head from behind while she ate. She whirled about, lashing out before realizing who he was. Then she stopped, staring down at her plate. He knows. So sure, those could have just been her defenses kicking in against her captors. Then why, when he commented on their eventual marriage—no proposal had been needed—did she ask for it that night? She hadn't known it was possible. She hadn't known the people had loved her so much that they'd pressured her successor into temporary regency, to gain power only if three years passed without word from the Queen Mother. But she'd asked, anyway. And upon learning of her continued power she issued the decree. Why did she stay behind him when male slaves came to help her off the ship? Why does fear radiate from her if a man nears her? Why is her face empty—not composed, but blank—in public? Why does she continuously cling to him in private? He knows. He knew even before she met that new student of Uncle Luke's, when her mind cried out for Jacen. When she stood there, unmoving but for taking a few steps away, until he came. When her eyes misted, when she hid her face against him… The man played innocent; but he knew, and even the others could tell Tenel Ka had something against the "new student." By Hapan law, he was executed. Jacen carried out the sentence, himself. He knows, all right. But even that knowledge never prepared him for this. His wife has conceived… She lays in bed, staring up at him. He removes his hand from her abdomen. "He's all right," he murmurs, kissing her hair and helping her up, as has become her morning routine. She asks him daily—more often than that—to check on the child. She never says she fears a miscarriage—nor that she has a reason to—but he knows. He knows this, now, too. 	This was not as sweet as the others, but it was no less powerful. My only complaint was that it was a touch confusing. It's probably just me... Beautiful, anyway.

	Very powerful. I didn't find it confusing. It will take years of Jacen loving and caring for TK for her to heal from what happened to her while she was held captive. And even though she hasn't told him outright what happened to her then, he knows. And apparently the "new student" must have been a part of the kidnapping and torture, and rape? that she went through, so he was executed. And now they are married and expecting a son, and TK is nervous that she is going to loose the baby. Probably another reaction to what happened to her. great job. green_eyes

	Just finished the entire series, and I'm not ashamed to say that I was moved by all of the vignettes, especially this one. Your implications were well done. Since the TOS prohibits us from using some descriptions in our fics, this is an important art to master. You've got it. I caught on to what you were trying to communicate, and I'm pretty dense sometimes. Great imagery and emotion. Your use of sound effects was applaudable.
