Timeframe: Dark Tide: Onslaught
Summary: All the Jedi Knights who fought in the Yuuzhan Vong war had their own stories of challenges and pain. One young Jedi will go through some of the most difficult emotional conflicts and will find himself in the brink of darkness.
Note: This is the first of a series.

This small series that takes place during the NJO series was originally post at jediacademy.proboards22.com, but at that time, I lacked a lot of writing skills. Now I'm rewriting them and posting them on this furom.

The idea came to me from seeing that since there were a hundred Jedi Knights when the series began and not all of them were giving names and backgrounds, i thought of making a story for one of them, and I will also expand a bit on other Jedi who were barely seen in the NJO.

Here's the prulouge. Tell me what you think.

Prolouge

The galaxy seemed calm, peaceful even, hardly anyone in it knew of the danger coming from the great galactic void. Those who were cureently in the forth moon of the gas giant Yavin, however, were about to recieve this rude awakening

In the jungle moon, there were many ancient Massassi Temples; one of which was the Jedi praxeum. Within it there were more than a hundred beings: A majority of them were humans, there were also a number of twi'leks, rodians, wookiees, and more than a dozen other species; some had scales, horns, feathers, beaks, and, or features. They were all Jedi, who had been summoned back to the Jedi Academy where they had all at one point began their lives as Jedi. Though none knew what the urgentcy was all about, they knew that they had to answwer the call from Luke Skywalker, their leader.

Among them, a young human boy in his mid-teens with dark-blond hair and a tall figure waited with the same eagerness as most of the other Jedi in attendance: To know what was so urgent that they had all been called back to Yavin IV.

Whatever it was, Misael Lerus was sure of it to be serious - and that certainty scared him to the bone.

Walking around the audiance chamber, the young Jedi could sense some of the other's agitation at being summoned back. Many of them were in the middle been patrolling the Outer Rim, stopping pirate raids, smugglerss, and hunting down crimelords when Master Skywalker called them to the praxeum - these actions were what some of the more conservative Jedi thought to be to aggresive; though a part of Misael thought this true, another part of him didn't see what was wrong about what they were doing. It was their duty after all, to keep the galaxy safe.

For the last month, Misael had been back at his homeworld of Coruscant with his parents after what seemed like an etenity of small missions. His Master Karon Jorken then came to retrive him from his time off. Karon simply explained that there was a new threat against the galaxy and all Jedi needed to assemble together.

"You're acting like we're goign into galactic war<' Misael had remarked. His master only looekd at him knowingly.

From what Misael noticed of his fellow Jedi was that they were divided into two groups of around one-third; one group were the followers of the ever aggresive Kyp Durron, and the other wese of the Jedi who stayed completely true to Luke Skywalkers teachings - which was the group Misael was in.

Going through the crowd, he caught sight of Thrynni Vae, who was a girl his age, and had studied in the academy with him only a year before. It was known among their friends that Thrynni harbored a crush on Misael since their days in the praxeum, a fact Misael tried to ignore. The girl did always get nervous around him, which made it hard to iniate a conversation.

"So, this is a lot of comotion," Misael said when he approached her.

Thrynni jumped a bit when she heard him and looked to him at her right, she blushed a bit and tugged on her dark hair that was tied to a bun. She always did this when she was nervous.

"It's supposed to be big," she said looking around at all the otehrs that were talking amongst themeselves. "They say it's bigger than anything the Empire."

"Whatever it is, we can handle it," he assured her with confidence.

"From what I've been hearing, I don't think it's going to be that simnple." Thrinney looked doubtfull, she had always had a cautious instinct, which Misael admired - most of the time.

"The Order's faced off against the worst, Thrynni" Misael pointe out, thinking back to all the trilas this academy had faced before and during his training here. "We've stopped Ekar Kun, the Diciples of Ragnos, the Shadow Academy . . ."

Thrynni wasn't convinced. "I feel like this is different."

"What could be such a huge threat?" he asked a bit frustrated with the wait.

"Something that took the life of Chewbacca," answered the voice of an older and more patient man.

The two young Jedi turned behind them, where Jedi Master Karon Jorken standing behind them. Misael only admitted to himself that his Master had spooked him a bit by sneaking up on them like that; Thrynni was thinking the same thing. The older man was tall, fair skinned, had short cut brown hair. He had a bit of a rough face, but it also showed kindness.

At first, Misael had been nervous when Karon picked him to be his apprentice on the day of his graduation from the academy. He had been unsure if he could make it as an apprentice at first, but over time the two both geow confortable with each other and formed the healthy bond of a Master and apprentice - and as friends.

Right now, what Karon had just told them shook Misael and Thrynni's.

"Did you say Chewbacca's death?" Thrinney asked, as if not even knowing of Chewbacca's untimed demise.

About two months ago, one of the moons of Sempidal had mysteriously changed orbit and crashed on the planet. Word got out quick that one of the many lives taken in that unexpected event was the legendary wookiee, Chewbacca. When Misael had heard about the Alliance hero's death on Sempidal, he was puzzleed as to what could have caused a moon to suddenly come down on the planet. Now, he knew it was this new threat the galaxy would be facing, and his past confidence began to disappear.

Before Karon said more, Luke Skywalker entered the audiance chamber all the Jedi to silence. The two groups were on the sides of a red carpet lined to the dais. The divided groups were in opposite sides of the huge chamber; apprentaces stood with their Masters and the academy students were standing infront of the dais. Misael and Thrinney were next to each other, with their Masters, Karon and Tresina Lobi in their other sides.

When Master Skywalker reached the dais, they listened stayed silent and listened; first, he asked the academy students to leave the audiance chamber and the youngsters left feeling a bit left out. Once theyw ere gone. Master Skywaler began his tale of the aliens called the Yuzhan Vong who have come from another galaxy to conquer theirs. Kyp Durron told them of how his squadron had encountered the invaders on Helska IV. He explaimedthe ensuing battle with their astroid looking starfighters, and hi being the only one who escaped alive. The Yuuzhan Vong used organic technology and despised machines; they saw lifeless technology as an abomonation. The worst part about them - for the Jedi at least - was that they couldn't be sensed in the Force.

All this took Misael aback; never, in his sixteen years of life, had he never thought of enemies like this. This caused him to rethink of what he told Thrinney just a few minutes ago.

"How can they not be felt in the Force?" Thrynni whispered in puzzlement. "It doesn't make any sense."

Misael just shrugged.

Both apprentices exchanged puzzled looks; everything that they had been taught over the last few years was suddenly being brought into question by these Yuuzhan Vong.

"In the coming week, I will be giving you all missions," Luke continued, but Misael was hardly paying attention - that being one of his problems, having a short-attention spand. His thoughts drifted to how the rest of the galaxy would react to this new invasion? How would his parents react? The two retired starpilots would probably reactivate their military commisions, like before during desperate times for the New Republic.

When the young Jedi came out of his throghts, Master Skywalker was saying his last words to them. "We must stay united, or we will fall. And with us will fall the galaxy."."

With those fnal words, the Jedi began to either leaving or talking with one another. Thrynni bid him farewell as she and Tresina left the audiance chamber.

Five Days Later

In the days since the meeting, Misael and Karon had spent their time learning what they could about the Yuuzhan Vong from those who had encountered them. Jacen Solo told Misael of how the Yuuzhan Vong used organic weapons that would withstand contact against a lightsaber and that they even used organic tools for breathing under water. Master Skywalker then finally called for them, sayng he finally had an assighnment for them.

The two Jedi enetered the empty audiance chamber, and bowed to the galactic hero.

"Karon, Misael, I hope neitehr of you have been restless these last few days," he said. The Jedi Master stood on the dais, keeping his hands behind his back and had a serious face on him. Nevertheless, both Karon and Misael knew the Jedi Master was in surrow inside because of Chewbacca's death. Misael couldn't imagine what it would feel like to lose someone close.

"How can we help, Master Skywalker," Karon responded in an ordered tone.

"The Yuuzhan Vong's starfightters are called coralskippers. " Master Skywalker bgean to explain. "I was watching the newsvid last night and it was said that a number of astroids were spotted going down on the planet Martil. However, they didn't burn in the atmosphere like they should have; they continued down the planet and disappeared in the Koriannian Canyons. Now coralskippers resemble astroids - as Kyp explained - so every bone in my body is telling me that these were the Vong. I want the two of you to go there and find out what they're up to."

"We won't let you down, Master," Misael assured him.

Master Skywalker smiled at him. "I know you won't. Just come back safely and if it does come to a fight, remember that you won't be able to sense their inetntions in the Force, and that their weapons are strong and organic, so use all the sword skills you have learned."

Both Jedi nodded, Misael knew that Karon was, like him, still trying to grasp that realization.

"Come back safely. We've already lost Miko." Master Skywalker paused for a moment. "I don't want anymore Jedi to fall. May the Force be with you."

The two Jedi bowed to him and left the audiance chamber. When they were outside, alone, Misael looked to his Master concerned.

"Master Karon, how big of a threat do you think these Yuuzhan Vong are?"

"I don't know, but I do know that nothing will be the same again," he answered sencerly.

Misael nodded, satisfyed with Karon's answer. They of them continued down the hall towards the hangar; there Misael's frieghter, the Starblazer, sat in to the side of the hangar with the rest of the bigger ships.

At age eleven, the boy had spotted the frieghter at a junkyard on Coruscant; he begged his father to at least take a look at the thign that used to be a spaceship. The junkdealer made a good offer on it- obviously thinking they wouldn't get the wrecked frieghter off the ground, but Eight months, fithteen days, several new parts, and a new coat of paint later, Misael and his father, Kartin Lerus, stood before a reincarnated beauty.

The starship somewhat resembled an A-Wing , but it had strong sheilds, computer controlled laser-cannons, two turrets, and several escape pods for emergencies. Its light-red color made it look brand new, and it also made a speed of point four past lightspeed. Misael was very much proud of his ship.

Once inside the ships' cockpit, Karon and Misael made a last minute check on the ship's systems and then exited the frieghter out of the academy's hangar. It was still early in the day here, and the sound of the animals were cut off by the departing starship's roaring engines as it flew above the trees and darted up towards the blue sky.

Misael flew them out into the darkness and dots of lights that was space and passed the gas giant of Yavin.

"I've got the cordinates," Karon said. "It shouldn't take us that long to get there, it's less than a parsec away."

"Right," Misael checked the charts on the cansole before setting his hand on the lever for the hyperdrive. "Here we go."

From the viewport, they saw the dots of distant stars stretch out into lines, and the Starblazer jumped into hyperspace. During the jump, both Jedi felt unsure of what they were to find on on Matil.

Chapter 1

The world of Matil was one of the lesser-known planets in this galaxy; from what Dorain York knew of. The world had many colonies, including and a handful of cities. Its environment was of two large oceans - one on the north of the planet and the other lade in the middle. There were also many canyons, and Dorain York was in the most-grand one of them. The Koranian Canyons went deep down into the planet - around nine hundred meters.

It was a good place for the Yuuzhan Vong as one of the first steps into invading this galaxy.

For five decades, the Yuuzhan Vong had been preparing for this, and the time had finally come. When Supreme Overlord Shimrra had announced that a new galaxy to claim as their home had been found - but first, it had to be cleaned of the infidel inhabitants that poisoned ir with their dead technology.

Since he could understand all this, Dorain trained as a warrior to prepare for the invasion. He hungered for a fight and hoped to get one soon.

Finally, after centuries of going through the galactic void, they had found a suitable place to call their home. Dorain had spent his entire life in the worldships and had never seen a real planet before, until now. A planet that would soon belong to the Yuuzhan Vong.

He and a small team of Yuuzhan Vong, both warriors were sent here. The mission was to begin an operating base in the caves that lay in the Korianian Canyons as a first step to taking control of the unsuspecting infidel occupants of Matil. The inhabitant wouldn't see this coming as the rest of this galaxy wouldn't see the invasion of the mighty Yuuzhan Vong.

Dorain smiled at this thought; the proud warrior stood on the ledge that stuck out from a cave entrance to the inside of the canyons. He had little hair - like all Yuuzhan Vong - and lacked much tattoos, which brought him to shame. Though he was called a commander by his team, he wasn't one by title. A high ranked Yuuzhan Vong warrior would have his body covered in tattoos to show his achievement and skills. This missin - he hoped would begin to change that.

"Commander York," called a voice from behind him. It was his right-hand, Kishaa Mar. "The yorik coral has began to grow around the tunnels. In time, our base will be suitable for operation."

"Good," he said pleased. "The first step in reshaping this infidel world."

"It will no longer be in the control of the infidels," Kishaa added.

"They will either die with their machines, or have to see the true way," Dorain finished.

Dorain turned to face him; though the two were low ranked warriors, Dorain had fate that the gods would reward them in this coming war. They would be raised in the ranks of a warrior.

"Nom Anor has informed us that the Jeedai are alert to our coming." Dorain snorted at this. From agents sent to this galaxy ahead of the worldships, they learned of the galaxy's defenses, known as Jeedai Knights. These Jeedia seemed to have magical abilities - or as the priest thought, abilities of the gods - and powerful weapon - like nothing else in their galaxy or that the Yuuzhan Vong had. They had been the galaxy's warriors for over a thousand generations and had few equals.

To Dorain York, these Jeedai were just swordsmen with tricks; none of those warriors compared to those of the Yuuzhan Vong. They used living weapons, not those abominating weapons like blasters or the Jedi's lightsabers. The Jeedai Knights might be great warriors in this galaxy, but compared to the might of the Yuuzhan Vong they would soon face, they were beginning warriors.

"The grutchins have been put all over the caves as well," Kishaa continued. "Our base will be ready soon enough."

"Good, the gods will be pleased by our start." Dorain looked up into the morning's blue-green sky, as if he were looking for the invisible gods that were watching him.

"That is our intension."

Dorain looked back down at Kishaa. "Let us prepare for our first spying mission on this world." The two Yuuzhan Vong went inside the vast caves with clear minds as to what to expect from their first mission un this galaxy.

The canyon tunnels were slowly becoming the sight of Yuuzhan Vong life. Upon their arrival, Dorain and his agents had planted growing seeds for yorik coral, and now after several weeks, miles of the underground tunnels were filled with plant life.

Sonce the team didn't have lambents with them they were using quinsha to lighting the caves. The small insects glowed a bright yellow light that brought sight to the darkened caves.

Dorain York and Kishaa entered a large cavern with small cliff dwellings and spiked ceilings.

In their main cavern were ten Yuuzhan Vong either practicing their fighting techniques with their amphistaffs or coufees, or putting their masquer - disguises that they placed to make them appear entirely like another species.

The inhabitants of Matil were humanoids with small spikes on their wrists and scale features on their arms and legs.

"Within the hour we will be infiltrating the nearest town," Dorain announced to his eleven warriors. "Our mandate in this first infiltration will be to see how the Matilians live daily and figure out how to exploit them."

All the Yuuzhan Vong looked very anxious to begin; they were all hungry for a fight, as Dorain himself was.

"In the coming weeks, we will be luring the unaware Mantilians to these caves and we plant our slave seeds on them, turning them into mindless workers and soldiers for our invasion."

He could feel the growing anticipation from all his warriors.

"I ask you to be patient," he continued. "Once the gods see our devotion and efforts to this goal, they will reward us this world. We will take this planet from the infidels and destroy their abominating machines and fill the planet with life."

All together, the dozen warriors raised their arms in and cried out in cheer.

During travels through hyperpsace, one had to keep themselves occupied; to get from one side of the galaxy to the other - depending on the routes that had to be taken -would take days. Some systems had such difficult routes that it would take days to weeks even.

Aboard Starblazer, Misael and Karon were playing a card game that was one of the oldest games in time.

"Two kings and a staff," Karon said, with a large smirk on his face when he showed his hand to his apprentace. "This must be my luck day."

"Not lucky enough," Misael said in a dangerous tone. He placed his hand on the small lounge table they were playing on. "Three queens, and a pair of jewels."

An amazed Karon blinked twice. "How many times did you practice, again."

"Five times a week. My uncle and cousin got me into it." Misael grabbed all the cards and began to shuffle them again for another round.

"You like to take challenges don't you?" Karon shook his head. "I could hardly read your face, or in the Force."

"I'm good at hiding myself in many ways if I need to." Misael began to toss cards to his Master's side and to his. "I can't tell you how many times I've eased-dropped on my parent's conversations over the HoloNet."

"Nothing to personal, I hope." Karon looked at the young man suspiciously.

"Just things about they'd had gone through lately and stuff. Now, I can't really remember much on what I eased-dropped on." he took a moment to try and remember a few things, then went back to the game.

Karon then turned serious. "Speaking of your parents, you talked them before we left, right?"

Misael nodded. "Yeah, Gavin Darklighter told them that Rouge Squadron had been attacked by asteroid looking ships. I told them all the Jedi know about the Yuuhan Vong now. They said they'll be keeping their ears out for anymore reports on them."

"You think they'll reactivate their military positions?"

Misael looked troubled at that question. "Yeah. Knowing my parents, they wouldn't want to be away from something like this."

"I guess you take after them well," Karon commented.

Misael chuckled at the compliment. "I guess."

They were quiet for a moment; both of them were starting take this new threat seriously. After what happened on Sempidal, and Belkadan, they new these Yuuzhan Vong were serious about invading their galaxy.

"Do you really think this will turn into a war?" Misael asked, raising his eyebrows.

Karon's shoulders eased down as he sighed. "I don't know. Maybe a peaceful resolution can be found to this."

"I didn't think we'd face a full-scale war in our lifetime," the younger Jedi admitted. "After the Emperor, I thought it would be generations before there would be something close to that, again."

"Well, your weren't around when the Emperor was." Karon looked at his cards appeared to be thinking. "This might be something for your generation to face."

"Come on, do you think your generation is just going to drift into the sidelines?" Misael exchanged one of his carsd for another one in the deck.

"I didn't mean it like that," Karon grabbed a card from the deck. "I mean your generation is going to learn and see a lot of things from this."

"What was it like during the Empire?" Misael looked at the older man curiously.

Karon put his cards face down on the table and seemed to look back into his memories.

"It wasn't pretty," he started. "They took worlds one-by-one, and took a lot of slaves. I always saw reports of battles and raids between them and the Rebel Alliance. My homeworld was far in the Outer Rim, so they never reached me. I didn't realize how bad they were until Alderaan, but I couldn't do much about it, I was just a kid. When I was sixteen, the Emperor was killed and that was when I could travel to the core worlds safely."

"I wonder how I'd handle through all that." Misael grabbed another card from the deck and looked at his hand carefully.

Karon looked at his apprentace knowingly; a part of him predicted that the boy would know soon enough.

"Doesn't make sense," Thrynni argued to herself for what seemed like the tenth time. "If the Force is all life, then why can't we feel these Yuuzhan Vong in it."

"Perhaps in time we will uncover the mystery," Tresina Lobi said.

Thrinney took her mug and gulped the rest of her blue milk. She and Tresina were on the small of the ship, Howler, as they approached the planet Pasmiq. According to Master Skywalker's intelligence, an unidentified ship had been seen in the system.

"Have you heard from Master Skywalekr since Dantooine?" she asked her Master.

"He said to keep looking, we can't risk losing another system to them." Tresina looked out through a small viewport as the green world covered in mist that was Pasmiq came into view. "The Yuuzhan Vong seem to be making there way from the Outer Rim to the core."

"That would take some time to do, wouldn't it?" The two of them had been keeping a look out for any activity on the uncolonized system for nearly five days, and so far, they had seen nothing.

Out of pure boredom, Thrynni started levitating her empty mug in the air and moved it back-and-forth, side-to-side, making various shapes.

"Thrinney, come look at this," Tresina called to her. She waved for the young and restless girl to stand next to her.

Placing the mug back on the table, Thrynnni stood up and went beside her Master. Tresina motioned for her to look through the viewport she had been staring at. Pasmiq was now in view; it was the fourth planet in the system they were patrolling now. Its white mist covered most of the surface with shades of dark green, like Dagobah.

"What am i looking at?" she asked confused. "Besides Pasmiq."

"Look at the western hemisphere." Tresina poinetd to the right and then, Thrynni could see that a large light-green shape was now covering a large portion of the right of Pasmiq's view. There also seemed to be a large fire surrounding it.

"Was that always there?" she asked narrowing her eyes at it.

"Not according to the holo I saw of it." Taking her gaze off the planet, Tresina headed for the Howler's cockpit.

Still looking at a somewhat changed Pasmiq, Thrynni
wondered for what reason the Yuuzhan Vogn ahd done this.

Look like I won't be bore anymore, now.

When they reached the surface of what they now saw was a huge leaf like plant, they saw that the fire had gone miles beyond it. From the viewport, Tresina and Thrynni could see that the strange plan was still growing.

"We'll a few kilometers away from it," Tresina said. "Don't want to get the ship covered by that thing."

"Right," Thrynni responded faintly.

She was still amazed the sight below them. The huge green plant looked smooth and from it, vegetation was growing to form different shapes. There were trees, small huts, and asteroid like structures that were probably the Yuuzhan Vong's starfighters that Kyp had fought against on Helska IV.

"What do think this thing really is?" Thrinney asked.

"A factory, a base of operation," Tresina listed. "That's what we're here to find out."

Chapter 2

"Dorain York," the face of Nom Anor said pleased. "Your operation is going well, I presume."

"Yes, Executer," Dorain answered at the small ball he had on his hand. The organic tool formed the face of Nom Anor, a Yuuzhan Vong executor who had been sent to this galaxy ahead of the worldships to do what he could to keep the New republic goverment blind to the start of the invasion.

"Our yorik coral grows through these caves and we will be making our first attack on one of the small towns near us," he informed the executor. "We will take what citizens we can make them our slaves. They will work on making our base grow."

"Excellent, Martil will be ours in due time. Continue as planned Dorain; if all goes well, you might be noticed by the gods."

Dorain York smiled at the statement. This was what he had been waiting for; a chance to prove that he was capable of more than just small operations.

"Matil is right between the boarders of the Out and Mid Rim," Nom Anor continued. "Taking control will mean we have another beginning passage to the core."

"According to reports from other agents, few in the galaxy know of our presence," Dorain said. "No officials from the New Republic know."

"And when any who do know of us we'll have a hard time convincing the senate of this invasion," Nom Anor added. "They will not believe this until we conquer thousands of their worlds."

Dorain raised his head a bit and smirked. "Not even the Jeedai will be able to prove it to them."

The Prefect nodded with a smirk, too. "Yes, there is controvercy about the Jeedai's place in the New Republic; some politicians don't trust them. We'll be able to use it to our advantage."

"This galaxy will fall," Dorain proclaimed. "And these great warriors of theirs will fall first."

"You have complete faith in the Great One's vision," Nom stated. "You will do well."

Dorain York took pride in the compliment.

"And remember," Nom instructed. "If anyone is to discover you, kill them."

"Yes, Prefect." Dorain bowed in respect and the image of Nom Anor's face disappeared from the villip.

Dorain stayed seated on the rocky stool in the small cavern of the tunnels he was in. The warrior took a moment to remember this; his time had finally come. He would prove himself worthy of high ranking . . . by conquering the infidels. And nobody was capable of stopping him."

From the distance of space, a blue disc was coming closer from the viewport of the Starblazer; when they were closer, Karon and Misael saw the sans colored ground that lay around in random places in the otherwise blue Martil. The planet was well known for its vast canyons that went deep underground. Many professional climbers and explorers came to the planet for those canyons. Like them, Misael was no stranger to heights - having grown up in the giant city world that was the capital of the New Republic.

While Misael piloted his ship, Karon was looking through the database on Martil's great canyons.

"The canyons cover one-third of the planet," he informed Misael when they were just about to enter Martil's atmosphere.

"Yeah, that's a lot ground to cover." Whenever they were in a situation, Misael tried to lighting things by staying optimistic. It worked, sometimes.

"We'll have to get started then."

The Starblazer glided through the skies on the southern coast where the canyons started. Still high above ground, Misael could see the crack below that extended longer than he could see. This was why Jedi had to learn to be patient; Karon's wonder of whether his apprentace had fully mastered that practice. When it came to patience, Misael wasn't the best example; he sometimes rushed into things impatiently - which was one of Karon's biggest tasks to get through as the boy's mentor. Luckily, he had the patience for it.

"We'll keep the sensors out for any life forms," Karon said activating the life-form sensors for anything.

They started on the beginning of the canyons road and smoothly went through the curves, turns, small gaps, and through groups of towering rock structures. After four standard hours of flying through the canyons, and picking up nothing, Misael began to grow impatient. He shifted on his pilot's seat uncomfortably and let out large-rough sigh.

Karon saw this and stood from the copilot's seat. "Maybe I should take over for a while; you go and eat something. When was the last time you ate?"

"Around twelve hours ago," Misael said, suddenly realizing his stomach did feel empty. Nodding in agreement, he strapped out of his crash webbing and let Karon sit down on the pilot's seat and take the controls. He then left the cockpit to the small lounge in the Starblazer.

This was how it went for the next five standard days - which was about the same as local days on Matil; the two would take turns in the cockpit every two hours. The one who was relieved of his watch woulddeat, sleep, or keep themselves busy with holovid programs, or a hologame.

When Misael was on his fourth watch of the fifth day, he was completely leaned against his seat and had one hand on the ship's controls; he had his other hand on his mouth, the back of his fingers against his lips.

He was completely lost in his thoughts. Questions rising in his mind: Why did the Yuuzhan Vong want to dominate them? Why did they want a war? They had come searching for a home, and might have gotten one from the citizens of the galaxy if they had come peacefully.

When his shift was nearly over, a sudden beep came from the control panel, and he saw that the life form sensors had picked up something. Misael nearly jumped off his seat. It's about time!

The young Jedi shouted out to Karon and the Jedi Master got to the cockpit in seconds.

"Is it big?" Karon asked sitting down on the copilot's seat.

Misael looked at the monitor's readings. "Not huge, rather like its detecting a squadron or something."

"How far away is it?"

"Five kilometers."

As they got closer, both Jedi looked out at the viewport for any sign of someone or something in the walls of the canyons. At the same time, the two noticed a cave entrance dead ahead. Outside of the entrance was a cliff that looked like it could serve as a landing platform.

Misael set the Starblazer down on the cliff. The two Jedi stepped down the ship's ramp and stooped right in front of the cave entrance.

"It's still hard to believe that these Vong can't be sensed in the Force," Misael said uncertain.

"Well, the sensors picked up life forms in here. Can you?" Karon looked at his apprentice wisely, and Misael understood that he was to find out the truth for himself. He closed his eyes and opened himself to the Force's mystical energy; he felt Koran's life signature right next to him, and then extended his senses to everything around him. He looked deep into the cave's tunnels that were all around the canyons, and found - nothing.

The Jedi apprentice opened his eyes and sighed. He wasn't surprised at the answer that he found, even though he was hoping for another one. "Nothing, I can't sense anyone in there."

"This is a new threat," Karon confirmed as Kyp Durron had stated. "The Jedi Order is in trouble."

"If we can't sense them in the Force, then we lose the advantage we've always had against our enemies," Misael added. He brushed his forehead in nervousness.

"Don't think so badly about it," Karon said. "The Force can still help us; we can still use it to aid us against any threat. Some threats just have us use in the Force in different ways."

Right now, Misael didn't know what those different ways were, and he didn't have time to find out. Looking deep into the cave, he could see a shining yellow light in the bottum, which suggested that the tunnel would lead lower into the canyons.

"Well, I guess we'd better go in," he said unsure.

Karon nodded and the two stepped inside the cave and proceeded cautiously throygh the tunnel; it wasn't until they reached the light that they could see the rocky walls rough surface and the spikes on the ceiling. That wasn't what really caught their attention, tough: the source of the light they were in was coming from the walls. Dots of yellow light no bigger than their hands were all around the tunnel and seemed to continue through the tunnel.

Misael got closer into the light to exam the source; he couldn't get very close without being blinded by the bright light. Karon stepped in and stretched out his hand and touched one of the many dots of light with the tip of his fingers. he then took the dot of light off the wall and had it in his hand.

The glowing light faded a bit and the two Jedi could see that it was an insect; bigger than most, and it had light-green scaly skin and flat wings like any other fly.

"Wow, they use glowing insects for light," Misael said amazed. "They really do use nothing but organic things."

"Yes, their ways are more different than any other species I know of," Karon said just as amazed about the insects' usage. he then placed it back on the wall where it resumed its bright lighting.

They continued through the caves, deciding random ways to go to when they hit an intersection in the tunnels. Through every path they took, the walls were covered with the glowing insects.

"They seem to be making themselves at home," Misael commented after going through the tunnels for more than an hour.

"They picked a good place" Karon replied. "These tunnels go through the entire canyon, and one-third of the planet. Good temperature and no one will find them seeding a base here."

"This makes me wonder how many other bases they have being made in our galaxy, already," Misael said worried. "Or how many they may have finished and in operation, already."

"Luke did say Mara encountered someone on Belkadan who had turned out to be Yuuzhan Vong agent," Karon explained. "He had been there for a while; these Yuuzhan Vong have been planning this invasion for some time."

That made Misael feel more uncertain of the odds of a quick war. "Well, the good guys always seem to work better after a little surprise, don't they?"

Karon didn't reply, to him, the boy either sincerely thought that, or he just watched too many holofilms.

Chapter 3

The waters of Filocina were of lush blue and were untouched by pollution or filled with navy ships. Since the Clone Wars - decades ago - this world had seen little action. And that served just fine for Kimna Lithai, and the rest of the inhabitants of the world.

Kimna liked to spend much of her free time on the shores of the island home, Lithkim. She loved watching the waves as they soared through the water and landed on the beach. The feeling of the morning breeze on her skin, the soft blow on her copper hair, and the fresh sent was a good way for her to start th day.

Though her homeworld had been originally just inhabited by countless kinds of sea creatures and water dwelling species Morians, in the years leading up to the fall of the Old Republic, settles made homes on the islands that floated above the planet's grand ocean.

While some teenagers on her island said that the world could do with some floating cities - like the ones on Kamino, Kimna wouldn't dream of it. She liked Felicia the way it was and believed it had found its balance between nature and technology.

If thoughts of progress were brought up, this world would become like Coruscant.

The thought of something happening to the trees and beaches and the oceans scared her. She loved the sight of the endless ocean that surrounded her; and the green and yellow trees that lay all around the island; she loved the feeling of the sand between her toes when she lay them on the beach shoeless.

This planet was just fine the way it was to her, and she hoped nothing would disturb it's peace.

From the street that went across the beach of Lithkim, a gray-haired, pale skinned man named Jakin Shari was walking on the sidewalk during the early morning. Though, the islands occupant just believed him to be a retired man who had come to Felicia to enjoy a quiet life, they were misled.

The disguised Yuuzahn Vong agent was anything but retired; he was mission to wreck communications on the planet so no one could contact the rest of the galaxy when the Yuuzhan Vong fleet invaded. It was part of the plan to gain territory on the Outer Rim and then move to the Core.

Since Filocina was right in between the boarder lines of Rims and it would take little effort to gain control, it was targeting for invasion.

"Hey, Mister Shari!" A young voice called out to him from across the street.

Jakin turned to see a trio of male youngsters - two tanned humans and one brown-scaled Morian-coming towards him. He bit his lip to cover the irritation of having to talk to the irritating teenagers.

"Hey, boys, what can i help you with?' he asked in his most convincing happy voice.

"Well, we've just been talking about what's going on out there," one of the boys explained.

"Yeah, you know: with these You-Yuuzhan Vong," the Morian said.

"What do you think about all of this?" the third boy asked.

"Well, i wouldn't worry so much about," Jakin told them. "The New Republic's faced some tough tiems before, and have managed."

The youngsters looked at him eyebrows, or plane eyelids raised of unsurenace.

"I don't think you kids should be thinking about these things," Jakin suggested. "Just ignore it and continue doing whatever it is you teenagers do these days."

He padded one of the boys on the back and continued down the sidewalk. Whether the boys followed his advice or not, Jakin didn't care. Just then, a sensational feeling came from his right pocket - they were contacting him.

Jakin ran the rest of the way to his small house on the island. The homes here were made of concrete rock, instead of darasteel, which made more barable to live in. The small house was only of room, a kitchen and a refresher. As soon as he got inside and the door slid closed, he took out what was calling for his attention.

It was a small green ball that was used to communicate with his people. He rubbed on the smooth living creature with his fingers and the side he was facing shaped into the face of a Yuuzhan Vong, the supreme commander Jakin was to take orders from.

"Jakin Shari, it is time," supreme commander Kithul Lom announced through the villip.

"I have your wishes to move the next faze, supreme commander?" Jakin asked with a small bow of his head.

"Disable the communication center as planned," Kithul instructed him. "The fleet will be arriving at Filocina within a standard day. We need the outside galaxy to be unaware of this attack now that they are fully alert to the invasion on the Outer Rim."

"I will move quietly, commander." Jakin bowed his head again. Without a word, the face of Kithul shaped back into the round ball it had been before.

Now, Jakin had more important matters to attend to. The Yuuzhan Vong attack force would be here in less than a week and he had to work on disabling all communication on Filicia.

The planet's Holonet communications center was located right on this island.

Seeing Kimna just stare at the vast ocean was what some would say a portrait waiting to be painted though for her friends, it was a bit weird that she did it every day. The trio, Weilan, Kin, and Molin walked onto the beach towards her. They couldn't help but wonder about the girl's need to gaze at the ocean every morning before doing anything else.

"I think if you look at it any longer, it'll look like it changed color," Weilan remarked when he stopped right behind her.

Not surprised that he was behind her, Kimna just turned her head around and looked up at him with an innocent smile.

"Water doesn't change color, leaves do," she countered cheerfully. Kin and Molin let out a small laugh.

"Really , Weilan, you should know somethign like that," Kimna continued.

"Well, I guess that's the price I pay for not listening in out environmental class." Weilan sat down beside beside her.

"I could go for a swim," Molin, the Morian said.

"It might be a little cold, even for you," Kimna said.

"I'll risk it."

Kimna just shrugged. "Your health."

Molin then ran towards the water, jumping out of his cloths while doing so; at one point, he tripped over himself, and his friends erupted in laughs.

"So, Jakin thinks we shouldn't be thinking about what's happening with the Vong," Kin said. Since it was a bit hard t pronounce the name Yuuzhan Vong, some people had come to just call them Vong.

"The New Republic is at a full-scale war again," Weilan complained. "How could we not think about it. What if they come here."

"Not likely." Kimna shook her head. After what had occurred at Dantooine just days before, the entire galaxy was on full alert of the intergalactic invader's presence in the Outer Rim.

Though Filocina was right at the boarder line of the Outer Rim, Kimna and others doubted the Vong would have any interest in their home. It had nothing of military value, and the only reason a battle had taken place here during the Clone Wars was because a Separatists leader had taken refuge on one of it's islands. Not even the Emperor had stormtroopers on regular patrols here.

That was why no one on Filocina - except for a few worrying ones - thought that it would not be harmed during war.

"I don't know, it just wouldn't hurt to be cautious," Weilan said.

Kin shook his head. "Come, on, we have no military presence, no money value, nothing that would aid a war. These Vong wont set foot in this place."

The HoloNet center for Filocina was a medium sized building at the north of Lithkim. It had over a hundred workers that included technicians, cleaners, and a small team of security officers. There was no reason for the island's citizens to think that there would be much violence at the complex.

It was sundown and the halls had an eerie quietness.

One Morian guard was making his rounds through the building; he would pass through the main control room and to the western gate.

When he made it to the entrance, he pressed the control panel on the wall and the door slid up. When he saw what was in there, he gasped: All the technicians in the room were lying either on the floor, or on their chairs, lifeless. They looked to cut down and all dripping blood. And all the control panels in the room were crushed; the outside shells were crushed into pieces, sparks were popping out, wires cut.

"What in the name . . ."

He let the rest of the words trail off as he went to his belt to take his comlink out.

"Attention all security personnel," he yelled into the comm. "We have a breach in the-"

He didn't finish the alert as a tall figure jumped him from behind and hit him on the head with one swing. The guard fell onto the floor and his comlink fell out of his hand with another guard's voice yelling out of it.

"What going there, what happ-" the comlink was then smashed by the foot of the attacker. The tattooed figure looked around at what he did and felt released of the chains he had been put into when he had arrived on this world. The war would soon come to Filocina.

Wow, you certainly started posting alot shock

the other wese of the Jedi who stayed completely true to Luke Skywalkers teachings - which was the group Misael was in.

The group that would make huge mistakes tongue

Going through the crowd, he caught sight of Thrinney Vae.

Thrynni Vae? Nice to see someone building on her happy Such a tragic end sad

Interesting setup happy

I liked the detail and backstory you put into the Starblazer as well.

Good work with the Yuuzhan Vong in chapter 1. I think some people don't take enough time to write villains in their stories, glad to see you doing it grin

"In the coming weeks, we will be luring the unaware Mantilians to these caves and we plant our slave seeds on them, turning them into mindless workers and soldiers for our invasion."

worried

Enjoyed the interraction between Misael and Karon as well. Nice to see someone using OC's.

Great start, enjoyed the prologue and chapter 1. I'll catch up with the other two later. Very promising start, FORCEBlLADE happy

Chapter 4

After two hours of wandering the caves, Karon and Misael had reached a large cavern that was lit with bugs and they could see the many small cliffs and the spiked ceiling above. It was the first large space they had found since coming into the caves.

What was also intriguing about the cavern was that more than half of the walls seemed to covered in green-like vegetation. From what both Jedi could tell from the light, it was expanded from the tunnels opposite of them.

"How are they doing all this?" Karon asked.

"They me some gardeners," Misael remarked.

As Misael locked around, his ears caught a sudden sound from the distance, an insect like sound. He darted his head away from the ceiling to look around at the cavern.

"Did you here that?" Karon nodded.

"It could be coming from any of those tunnels." Karon pointed the five other tunnels that led to the cavern and the noise of slapping wings came again; it echoed through the cave walls.
On the tunnel to his left, Misael caught a shadow though the cavern's light appearing and disappearing at the same second.

"It was right there," Misael whispered, pointing towards the sighting spot.

Karon caught the same shadow on the middle tunnel opposite of them.

"We'll separate and take different positions in here," Karon whispered to Misael. He nodded in response.

They stepped out of the tunnel entrance and separated, both of them moving cautiously. Both of them began to open themselves to the Force - but then remembered that wouldn't work, not on these enemies.

They heard the flapping again, and this time it sounded like they were getting closer. Misael had his left hand near his belt where his lightsaber was hanging - ready for a fight.

The sound grew louder, and Misael had positioned himself under a cliff, hidden by an extended ledge; Karon was in the cover of a cross-shaped rock with his ears extended to the Force.

At last, Misael saw what looked like a giant brown insect zooming over the cliff he was hidden under. At first, it looked like the insect was just passing through, but then it made a turn and had spotted him.
Misael responded by taking his lightsaber and in one snap hiss it added a beam of blue light to the yellow-lit cavern.

As the insect raced towards him, the sound a blaster firing came into the cavern and a speeding red seam hit the insect on its flapping wings, as it was five meters close to Misael. The blaster bolt came from Karon, who was standing on top of the rock he had used as cover.

It fell down and hit the rocky floor, but when it seemed it had lost, it got back up and began to fly into the air again - slowly and with more difficulty. It set its sights on the boy standing just a few meters away again, but before it could get anymore closer to him, a blue lightsaber had cut him down in the air. The thrown blade then diverted itself back to Karon's hand.

Before Misael could ask why he couldn't let him finish the thing off, another insect appeared from the ceiling of the cavern and came zooming down at them. It came at Karon, and the Jedi Master had only a second to jump away and he fell on the floor.

The creature then zoomed at Misael at full speed. Misael waited for just the right moment and jumped to the side a second before the insect would have stricken him; he then brought his lightsaber from his back and swung it diagonally right and cut the insect in half as it passed by his side.

Taken a moment to catch his breath, Misael then looked down at the insect that was now in pieces. His lightsaber still humming at his side, he took a closer look at it. The black insect's wings were flat and its mouths was open to reveal fangs.

Karon kneeled by his side and examined the creature too. "The only thing I've seen close to one of theses things are old drawings of the Kilinis in archives,” he said.

"These are definitely not from around here," Misael said. "These Yuuhan Vong must have a lot of living things as tools. Can't wait to see what they are."

"I'm not so anxious," Karon said and he stood back up.

"Let's just hope our lightsabers can cut through the rest of their weapons easily." Misael stood and followed him through the cavern.

Karon wasn't so sure about that.

As a warrior, Dorain York spent hours at a time practicing his fighting techniques. Since he could walk, he knew what path he wanted to take in the Yuuzhan Vong society. The heart of a warrior burned in him - his father had said so when he was just four.

Since at the moment there was nothing to do in the growing base on Martil, the Yuuzhan Vong was dedicating himself to his swordsman skills.

With an amphistaff on his right hand, in a state of a staff, he twirled on his right foot and swung his weapon straight in front, attacking a would-be opponent from his left. Coming out of the twirl and sent his raised left leg into a front kick.

He grabbed his amphistaff with both hand and raised the serpent weapon's head above hi, the tail right over his head, and swung down. He then bended his left arm and sent his elbow striking back, as if an opponent was coming from behind him.

Sinning around with both his hands gripping his weapon again, he struck his pretend opponent, and then made a back kick with his right leg to get his first opponent.

He moved forward in a series of twirls and jumping kicks; being aware of his leg movement as he went. As Dorain was doing this, he continued swinnning his amphistaff from above and his side; straight, and diagonally from his lower- and upper-sides.

It was Dorain York's hope that all his hard work and dedication would pay off. That one day, his upper ranked comrades - and the gods - would see his talent and future accomplishments and would raise up to a higher-earned status.

His practicing was cut off when his ear got the distant running that was approaching him.

"Commander," Kishaa called out from behind him. "We have intruders."

Dorain turned to his right-hand man and kept a serious expression.

"Several grutchins were found killed in a cavern not too far from here," Kishaa explained as he reached Dorain.

"Any clues as to who killed them?" Dorain asked.

"One appeared have been shot by a blaster wound," he said. "Another seemed to have been cut in half."

The sudden word Jeedai came to Dorain York's mind.

"Alert the others, tell them to search all the tunnels and caverns around here," he ordered. "If the death of the grutchins was just a short time ago, the intruders may not be far. If any of our warriors find these intruders, they may kills them at sight."

"Yes, commander." Kishaa bowed in respect and then turned to alert the others and give them Dorain York's order.

Dorain gripped his amphistaff with both hands in anticipation; if there were Jeedai in the canyons, then now was his chance to prove himself, to show the might he had. The time for battle was here, and he hungered for it - like all warriors did. There were only twelve of them in the base at the moment, but it would be enough if there were only several intruders. He would find the infidel intruders and strike them down

"Did you here that?" Karon asked in a whisper as he and Misael were coming up an intersection in the tunnels.

"Yeah, it sounds like footsteps." Misael concentrated on the sound, using the Force to extend his hearing; though these Yuuzhan Vong couldn't be felt through the Force, things like their voices could be heard from the distance with the aid of the Force. He picked up footsteps that belonged to more than one person - Yuuzhan Vong

"They're running," Misael said. "And there's more than one."

"And they're coming from more than one direction."

They paused for a moment to listen again as the footsteps grew louder. Karon motioned for his apprentice to move back against the rock wall; they both leaned their backs against it to stay as covered ass possible.

"Stay quiet," Karon instructed. "We might be able to hear them say something."

"Let's just hope they speak our language." Misael concentrated his hearing and the approaching footsteps again. They at the intersection, and alien voices were heard.

"Ye sha ti Va," one was saying.

Misael figured the Yuuzhan Vong was asking its comrades if they had seen anything.

"Yo na misha tu," someone else answered.

Though Misael wanted to get a glimpse of the other-galactic species, Karon was closest to the tunnel opening to the intersection. The Jedi Master turned and leaned his upper body to the side a bit and peaked half his head to the intersection.

The Yuuzhan Vong were tall aliens; with colorful tattoos - some of the ones he saw had more than the other - other features were also spikes on their arms and shoulders, and one had two small horns on his head.

There were six of them, and they each had what looked like snakes wrapped around one of their arms.

The Yuuzhan Vong continued to talk in their native tongue, after a minute of exchanging words, they half dozen Vong separated into pairs and went for different tunnels - none being the one the pair of Jedi were in, to their relief.

When they thought they were in the clearing, both Jedi heard a flap of wings coming down the tunnel they were in; at first they thought it was another insect, but these wings flaps at more ease. The sound of the wings stopped as quickly as it was heard and then a second later, a screech erupted from the flying creature neither Misael nor Karon had seen and it echoed through the tunnels.

Through the loud screeching. Karon caught the sound of a faint roar - which would have sounded louder if not for the screeching yell.

When the noise stopped, Misael finally saw the small flying creature perched on a small cliff on the top of the tunnel's wall meters from them.

"Must be some security animal," he guessed.

"I suppose so." Karon then realized he was completely out of cover now the Yuuzhan Vong who had just past the intersection could see him.

He looked at the different tunnels around them and saw that the three pairs of Yuuzhan Vong were now racing towards him and his apprentice, their serpent-like weapon were now held and some also had smaller weapons on the other hand.

When Misael saw the enemy charge, he looked at Karon knowingly. "Run?"

"Yeah, I think that would be the best thing right now," he said nodding.

The two dashed off down the way they came from and the Yuuzhan Vong weren't too far behind.

A part of Misael felt like a wimp for running from the Yuuzhan Vong, but he remembered Karon saying how Mara Jade Skywalker had barely been able to beat one on Belksdan; even with her illness, the woman could still take the ears out of a gundart. So how would he and Karon fair against six - or more if there were others?

From what they new, the invaders' living weapons could withstand a battle with a lightsaber, and that just Misael doubt himself even more; what advantages did he have on them as a Jedi. It seemed hopeless.

The smart thing to do right now was to avoid a fight; they had done their mission. They had discovered that the Yuuzhan Vong were making a base on Matil and now they had to get back to the academy alive.

The two Jedi ran through the tunnels, unsure of which way to go, but they just kept going.

Karon spared a glance behind him and saw that their chasers were just meters behind them. "Pick up the pace!"

Like two ion rockets, Karon and Misael speeded up together with the aid of the Force. Behind them, the Yuuzhan Vong growled in anger.

"We're loosing them," one of the warriors growled as the two Jeedai began to put some distance between themselves and their pursuers.

"Villip the others and inform them that we found the intruders," Dorain York ordered, "and order them to their coralskippers, find the Jeedai's ship and destroy it."

One of his warriors nodded and rubbed the small villip that was attached to his right shoulder to awake it and communicate with one of the other warriors' villips. The team of Yuuzhan Vong had come to Matil aboard a small cruiser that had carried only a trio of coralskippers. Three was all that they needed.

Dorain took a moment to really enjoy the chance he now had to kill not just one - but two Jeedai on his first mission in this invasion. The supposed great warriors were running - running was a sign of fear. His kind never ran from a battle, they fought to the death.

Just like Dorain had predicted, the Jeedai were unworthy warriors, and they would be easily defeated by the Yuuzhan Vong, and not long afterwards, the rest of the galaxy would fall.

Yes, Dorain York would rise to the elite and become noticed by the warmaster Trasov Lah and Supreme Overlord Shimrra - and the gods. He would become a great warrior, which would start with the death of thse two Jeedai.

Good to see Nom Anor in chapter 2 devil

When Misael was on his fourth watch of the fifth day, he was completely leaned against his seat and had one hand on the ship's controls;

They flew around the canyons for 5 days? Seems like that would alert any enemies hidding there thinking

Misael and his master searching through the caves is scaring me. I kept waiting for a Vong to jump out tongue

Chapter 3:

From the street that went across the beach of Lithkim, a gray-haired, pale skinned man named Jakin Shari was walking on the sidewalk during the early morning.

I knew that would be a Yuuzhan Vong before I looked at the dramatis laugh

"I don't think you kids should be thinking about these things," Jakin suggested. "Just ignore it and continue doing whatever it is you teenagers do these days."

No boys! Think about it!!!! shock

"Water doesn't change color, leaves do," she countered cheerfully. Kin and Molin let out a small laugh.

laugh

"I could go for a swim," Molin, the Morian said.

Bad idea.

All the technicians in the room were lying either on the floor, or on their chairs, lifeless. They looked to cut down and all dripping blood.

shock

worried

Very thrilling way to end the post. This is getting exciting grin I see you've posted again, I'll try and read that one tomorrow.

It set its sights on the boy standing just a few meters away again, but before it could get anymore closer to him, a blue lightsaber had cut him down in the air. The thrown blade then diverted itself back to Karon's hand.

He's lucky Karon is looking out for him...

Misael fighting the insect reminded me of Anakin taking on the Geonosians in the droid factory in AOTC. grin

He looked at the different tunnels around them and saw that the three pairs of Yuuzhan Vong were now racing towards him and his apprentice, their serpent-like weapon were now held and some also had smaller weapons on the other hand.

worried

Good post. happy Looks like Misael and Karon are really in the thick of it now. They'd better find someplace to hide!

Chapter 5

The Jedi headquarters on Coruscant seemed more quiet than usual. When Jedi Knights weren't on assignments, they were mostly on Coruscant, training with the Force and sparring with lightsaber. Now though, with the entire galaxy at sudden war, the building was practically empty.

Standing in a curved corridor, Luke Skywalekr watched the air traffic of the city capital through the parasteel window that was one side of the corridor. From this point-of-view, things seemed normal, like nothing was wrong, but it wasn't. Things were going from bad to worse.

In the last few days, the Yuuzhan Vong had become visible to everyone. The conquering of Sempidal, Garqi, Dubrillon, Dantooine, and other places made the invasion appear to everyone's scanner.

The Jedi Master pondered the outcome of this war; he knew it was serious; the galaxy hadn't faced a danger like this since the Emperor and the cruelness of the Empire.

All those things the New Republic faced since then, Grand Admiral Thrawn, the clone Emperor, the Disciples of Ragnos, the Yevethains, the Shadow Academy, they were all obstacles - dangerous obstacle - but none made the it to a full-scale war. In the few months that Yuuzhan Vong arrived, worlds had been destroyed, lives been taken or enslaved. This wouldn't be fixed in a matter of time.

He sensed several people coming near and drew his gaze away from the midday traffic.

At the end of the corridor at his right, the door slid open into two and five familiar faces walked in, four humans, and one rodian. Two of men he knew all too well: Gavin Darklighter - cousin to his late friend Biggs, and Wedge Antillies, long-time wingmate. The other pair of humans were husband and wife Katin and Vailia Lerus, parents to the young Jedi Misael. The rodian was Ortac Miral, who had joined the Rebel Alliance not long after the Battle of Yavin; all of the visitors were former members of Rouge Squadron - except for Gavin, who was now leader of the legendary squadron.

"Gavin, Wedge, to what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?" Luke asked smiling. He took both men's hands and welcome the other three visitors. "I figured Rouge Squadron would be preparing for battle."

"That's what I came to talk to you about," Gavin said. “It seems every Rouge in the galaxy is reactivating their military status."

"Everyone?" Luke asked, not at all shocked.

"Everyone of us," Katin answered for Gavin. The dark-curly haired man was dressed in a standard military uniform, and so were Vailia and Ortac. "And not just the Rouges, many others from the Rebellion days are coming out of retirement in wake of this new war."

"It's a military reunion," Vailia added. "What, you didn't think you, Leia, Han, and Lando would be the only ones from old school that were going to be part of this?"

"Honestly, I had every prediction that this would happen," Luke admitted. "It what makes it more sad actually, now I know this really going to be a long and dreadful war."

"How's that different from any other war?" Ortac asked in his grunted voice.

"This is different from anything in the last two decades," Luke explained. "Only two months since the Yuuzhan Vong and already they've taken worlds in the Outer Rim."

Luke turned his head away, remembering what he saw at Belkadan, the mindless slaves; and seeing Dantooine fall to the invaders.

"Look at what happened on Belkadan, Garqi, and what happened on Sempidal." There was quiet as the thought of Chewbacca's unexpected death arose. "Chewbacca's gone because of the Yuuzhan Vong."

"Luke, we can all see that this isn't going to be easy," Wedge said, placing a hand on his friend's shoulder. "There hasn't been anything like this since the Emperor. We know this isn’t going to end anytime soon."

"Why do think so many of us are coming out of retirement," Katin added. "We know that the New Republic isn't going to need all the help it can get if it's to survive."

At hearing their words, Luke realized he shouldn't have doubted his comrades’ intelligence on war. They had all been in the midst of this. Luke, and Wedge were founders of Rouge Squadron, Katin, Vailia, and Ortac had joined a year before Hoth, and had been part of the fleet at the Battle of Endor. Gavin had lost his cousin Biggs at Yavin and was among one of the first to be in a full-scale battle with a Vong fleet; all five of them new as well as he did how bad a war was.

"Right, I'm just worried of what will happen," he explained. "It doesn't seem things will be going right for a while; I've sent the Jedi on recon missions all around the galaxy and they're all in danger: Corran and Ganner Rhysode found a slave camp on Garqi and Corran nearly died. Three Jedi fought an entire group of Vong on Nar Shaada and barely made it out alive. Jacen got into trouble on Belkadan and I was barely able to protect him against three warriors."

His friends saw how deeply he was worried for the Jedi Order. There were about 100 Jedi Knights active in the galaxy and with the handful of students training at the praxeum, Luke couldn't monitor all of them every minute of every day; especially aggressive one like Kyp Durron.

"What about Matil?" Gavin asked. "I heard you sent some Jedi there."

Luke knew the question was really being asked from Katin and Vailia, the pair had a right to worry for their son.

"I still haven't heard back from Karon and Misael," he admitted. "I sent them almost six days ago."
He felt the worry from the boy's parent’s increase - especially from Vailia. Luke remembered similar worries when his nephews and nieces ever walked into a dangerous situation and there was nothing he could do to keep them away from it.

"But the canyons there are huge right?" Ortac said, picking Vailia's expression at Luke's news. "It will be a while before they search the whole place."

"Exactly, you have nothing to worry about," Gavin added. "I'm sure your son's well capable of handling himself in battle-if the need should arise."

"I don't doubt my son's abilities in battle, not at all," Vaillia assured them. "But that still doesn't stop me from worrying."

"It's just that he's only sixteen," Katin said. "Most sixteen year-olds are concerned about getting a date, borrowing a parent's speeder, or getting through school exams."

"Well, when you're a Jedi, a normal life is deprived a bit," Luke said. "I do believe he predicted the two of you would reactivate your military status. He's worried about you two too."

"Well, we can handle ourselves," she assured him.

"So, the three of you will be rejoining Rouge Squadron?"

Katin shook his head. "Not me and Vaila, actually, we'll be forming our own squadron; we'll be looking for some capable pilots and we're thinking of names right now."

"Your own squadron, you guys think you can handle it?" Wedge asked.

"It's not an easy task, I can assure you," Gavin warned the. He and Luke exchanged knowing glances.

"We're willing to take a chance," he assured them. "But in the mean time, to remember the feel of being in a starfighter, again, we'll be going with Gavin and the Rouges to look into a report on a Yuuzhan Vong sighting.

"When, will you be leaving?"

"In an hour," Ortac answered.

Vailia wasn't saying anything, Her thoughts were elsewhere.

"Stop worrying," Luke told her. "Misael's fine; I've been looking through the Force a lot, and I sense that he's still alive."

"I have my mother's intuition to know if anything's happened to my son, thank you," she said respectively. "I know he's okay; I trust Karon to look after him when they're on missions. I just hope he's not jumping off cliffs."

In an acrabatic move, Misael somersaulted off a small cliff and when he landed on the lower ground, he continued his run. Karon was ahead; being a bit taller with longer legs gave a more physical advantage in the chase.

From, behind him, he could hear the running footsteps of their chasers still keeping up with them.

Sparing a glance behind him, he saw the Yuuzhan Vong throw several small winged figures at him. Activating his lightsaber, Misael half turned and deflected the small insects with one arm.

When Karon reached the cavern exit, he turned and halted his apprentice by the arm. The half dozen Yuuzhan Vong chasing them were half way through the cavern and were closing in on them.

"Well, if you stopped, then you probably have a way to stop them," Misael said, taking the moment to catch his breath.

"I hope so," Karon said. That caused the boy to give him a dreaded look.

The Jedi Master closed his eyes and raised his arms; it took a moment for Misael to realize what he was doing: looking atop the cavern, he saw that the spiked ceiling was releasing dust as cracks began to open around chunks of the ceiling rock.

The Yuuzhan Vong were just meters away from them now, and all their teeth were gritting from the thirst to battle.

The cavern ceiling above suddenly broke apart and large chunks of rock broke loose from the ceiling. The rock - including two very sharp spikes - fell down and aimed for the ground right in front of the two Jedi.

Dorain York heard the sudden crumble of rocks and halted his legs, nearly falling on his face. He raised his arm straight to his side to stop his warriors from continued the charge - but one Yuuzhan Vong had gone ahead of him and was dashing at the two Jeedai at full speed. He wasn't aware of the piles of rock that were coming down from the ceiling.

He was just a few steps away from them - couffee raised - when the falling rocks crushed him.

Dust collected from the crash, which quickly it cleared. Over the debris, Dorain could still see the heads of the two Jeedai as they dashed away into the tunnel. With the amount of time it would take to clear the ruble away, they would be gone.

"Climb over the debris," he ordered. "They will not get away."

He led the small climb over the pile of ruble. All his four limbs moved in a rush, grinning his teeth together with determination. When he made it to the top, he jumped over the rest of the ruble and dashed down the tunnel entrance, his four remaining warriors right behind him.

Chapter 6

"Did you hear about it?" Kin yelled out to Kimna, Weilan, and Molin, who were sitting down at the counter at Hick's Diner.

"Here about what?" Weilan asked turning around on his seat, his mouth was still full of food.

"There was an attack at the HoloNet center." Kin sat down on the stool next to Weilan. "An entire room of technicians and a guard were murdered cold-blood."

"What?!" Kimna looked at him in disbelief.

"Yeah, the report just went out." Kin handed her the datapad he had been holding all the way from hishouse. Kimna looked at the news report he had in it. As she read it, her eyes gave away her complete shock.

Molin read the report out loud looking at it from her side. "There are no explanations as to why this attack had occurred, but eleven communication's workers, and one security guard were murdered at the Holonet Communications Center yesterday after sundown. They were brutally stabbed and left with puncture wounds which have been examined and have been determined that whatever had biting some of these victims injected them with a poisonous venom."

"There were no eye-witnesses as to who the murderer was, and there is much confusion in the local police force as to why the main control room was sabotaged; shortly after the victims were found, communication cells were discovered damaged as well. The entire building's systems were destroyed and all inter-galactic communication from Filocina have been disabled. The entire local police on Lithkim are investigating the case. At this point, however, it is hard to say if the culprit or culprits will be found."

When Molin finished, he almost looked disgusted by the report. Looking around, he saw that the four of them and the server - who was in the kitchen at the moment - were the only ones in the diner.

"Who would murder them?" Welan asked in disbelief. "And why?"

"I think this might have to do with our new war," Kin spoke out. "We've been cut off from the rest of the galaxy, when something like that happens, it means there's an attack."

Molin shook his head. "No, those Yuuzhan Vong have no reason to attack us."

"Maybe they don't need a reason," Kin suggested. "Maybe they just like the violence. Maybe they want to control this entire galaxy."

Weilan thought about it and then said, "The report did say that they were stabbed and poisoned. Most people would use blasters, and from what I know these Yuuzhan Vong seem to use non-mechanical weapons."

Kimna had been quiet since she had read the report. She couldn't believe this dad happened. Her once safe and peaceful home was no longer safe and peaceful. It was as if a beautiful and heavenly beach was about to be wrecked by come into the path of a terrible hurricane, and was doomed to be robbed of its peacefulness.

Personally for Kimna, her calm, and happy life was facing the harshness of reality. Deep down, she knew for certain that this rampage of murder had to do with the war. Her wonderful, fun-filled home was now caught in the darkness of the hurricane. Filocina would now be part of this war, she knew it, and soon, the rest of the planet's citizens would know it, too.

"Well, that was clever," Misael, commented as they sprinted away from the cavern where the Yuuzhan Vong were climbing over the ruble at the tunnel entrance.

"Yeah, well, sometimes you have to let the chaser think they're going to catch you," Karon explained with a smirk.

At a curve, Karon spared a glance back at the cavern; he could see the five remaining Yuuzhan Vong climbing over the debris he had thrown down.

"We better keep up the pace, I would say I bought us only a few extra seconds." He pushed Misael ahead of him and they continued down the tunnel.

When reaching another turn, Misael slid through the ground on it, and dashed out of the tunnel. He stopped at the sight of a huge wall in front of him. The wall was covered in vines and vegetation - probably grown by the Yuuzhan Vong.

When Karon caught up to him, he let out a small growl.

"Dead end, not good," Misael said brushing his hand over his forehead. He had broken a sweat.

The two looked behind them and heard the running of their chasers coming nearer. Karon looked around the small cavern and then looked above the wall; he saw that it didn't extend entirely up to the ceiling.

"I guess we climb," he announced.

His apprentice looked up at the wall and saw what he meant. They spared another glance behind them; one Yuuzhan Vong made the turn to the tunnel exit.

At this, both Jedi summoned the Force to aid them and they shot off the ground into the air.

Making it only half way up the high wall, they both caught the vines that covered the wall. At first, it seemed like they wouldn't hold when they fell back down a bit, but they held. The vines were thin, but thick enough for them to cling onto.

Down below, the five Yuuzhan Vong looked above and with the command of who appeared to be the leader; they too began getting a grip onto the vines and were climbing up towards them in a fast pace.

Seeing them, Misael, and Karon worked their way up the wall without a word.

To their misfortune, two of the Yuuzhan Vong were fast climbers; they were going ahead of the others and catching up to them up the wall with hands pulling on the vines, and feet hit against the wall - almost as if they were crawling on it.

"You know, in holofilms, this looks easy," Misael grunted.

"Well, if you keep practicing, it'll be easier," Karon remarked.

"That is if I ever get the chance to keep practicing." Misael spared another glance down and saw two Yuuzhan Vong were getting closer.

To Misael's dismay, when he raised his left leg, it slipped on the vines and he couldn't find any proper footing. His leg was dangling below. He reached out for a higher part of the vine he was clinging to, but to his surprise, the vine became loose and suddenly he fell back down about ten meters. He growled in frustration and grabbed hold of another rope of vine.

A large hand, however, caught him by his right foot. He looked down to see the tattooed arm of a Yuuzhan Vong pulling him down. The Yuuzhan Vong growled in excitement and tugged at his prey's leg.

As he pulled, Misael found himself now hanging on one arm. He sent his free leg down to kick the Yuuzhan Vong the head, but that was little help. The tattooed faced looked to have been hurt by the kick, but it didn’t stop him. He continued to pull down on his leg that was now half down his head.

"I don't like being forced down," Misael shouted to the warrior.

He got a hard grip on a vine with both hands and kicked the Yuuzhan Vong's hand that was holding onto a vine. Seeing that that didn't work either, he put his free foot to one side of the warriors head and managed to pull his imprisoned leg back up enough to have his foot the side of the warrior's head. He grabbed the head with his feet, getting a tight grip on it and began to swing his legs - with the Yuuzhan Vong's head in the middle - back-and-forth. The Yuuzhan Vong's face hit the rocky wall again and again.

After several hard hits to the wall, his grip on the young Jedi began to loosen; Misael then delivered one more kick to the head and the grip on his right leg was release.

He gathered his feet together above the Yuuzhan Vong's head and then slammed them both down on him. The now dazed and hurting Yuuzhan Vong let go of his hold on the vines and fell.

That's another one. He then continued his climb.

Higher above the wall, Karon saw that the other Yuuzhan Vong that had gone ahead was closing in on him. He let his right hand go of the vine and kept his left leg on a small cliff on the wall. Clipping lightsaber out of his belt and activated it; the white-blue light added to the yellow light of the insects, and this brought a roar from the Yuuzhan Vong just below him.

Relying on his targeting skills, Karon dropped his blade straight down like a sphere. The Yuuzhan Vong wasn't quick to react on the attack and the blade hit its mark; the burned body then dropped down to the ground below.

The glowing lightsaber then rose back up and the handle darted back to its owner's hand.

There were still three Yuuzhan Vong climbing up the wall, and the small intervention had giving them time to catch up to the two Jedi.

Karon looked around the wall and saw that Misael was almost back to his side, so he resumed his climbing.

When Misael reached him, to their startling surprise, the smallest Yuuzhan Vong of the remaining trio had launched himself up with the push of his comrades and made to the hanging Jedi.

Right in the middle of them, the warrior swung at Misael with a small double-edged dagger. Misael jumped away without letting his grip go on the vine from his left hand. With his back against the wall, he attempted a side kick with his left leg, but it missed when the Yuuzhan Vogn risked a fall kicking his leg off the wall and having his entire body in midair with one arm holding on to the vine.

The warrior then launched his own kick to his right - at Karon and hit him square in the stomach. Karon held on to his vine and took the pain in without flinching. Having enough of this, Misael took his lightsaber off his belt with his right hand and activated it. When the Yuuzhan Vong heard the snap-hiss, his attention was once again on the younger Jeedai.

Expecting the Jeedia to take a swing at him, he moved slightly to his other side. That wouldn't save him, however, because Misael wasn't aiming for him; instead, he swung his blue blade above the Yuuzhan Vong, at the vine he was holding onto. The rope of vegetation was cut through easily with once-fresh, now-burned scent coming from it.

The Yuuzhan Vong fell yelling, and still holding onto the cut vine.

With a breath of relief Karon and Misael continued their climb and finally reached the top.

When they made it to the ledge, they layed there on their backs, taking a moment to catch their breaths after the heart-wrenching climb.

"Remind me to buy a jetpack when we get back," Misael said breathlessly.

"We'll bye a pair," Karon offered.

Their chuckles were cut off when the heard the growl that came from right beside them. They saw an alien hand get a grip of the edge of the cliff dwelling and pull the rest of his body up.

Karon and Msiael jumped up and stepped back several paces as the two remaining Yuuzhan Vong climbed onto the ledge.

"I've had enough of this running," Misael proclaimed, making his hands into a fist.

"The feeling's neutral." Karon straightened himself and looked hard at their two opponents.

With a swift swing of their arms, their lightsaber were at hand and a snap-hiss brought two staffs of blue light to life.

If these Yuuzhan Vong wanted a fight, then they would get one.

Chapter 7

Landing the Howler a safe distance from the growing plant, Tresina and Thrynni had walked some distance through the burn surrounding of the giant plant. Trees, bushes, and all different plants of life in the area had been burned to dead branches and trunks. When they had begun walking through the strange plant, they saw a field of trees that grew the least thing they had expected.

"They look like snakes," Thrynni pointed out to Tresina.

The Chev Jedi Master examined one of the trees curiously. In the galaxy, the only living creatures known to grow from a plant was a ysalamari on Myrkr. This would be a scientists dream to discover; then again, all of the Yuuzhan Vong's biotechnology was a scientists dream.

Tresina was now circling a tree where the snakes were still growing.

"These must be the weapons Mara had mentioned," she figured.

"The ones that can withstand contact with a lightsaber," Thrymni added.

She turned to look at one of the other trees where the serpents looked to be fully grown. Some were swinging from the branches, as if trying to break free from their branch dwellings. One of the creatures spat out a brown venom from its fanged mouth and it landed on the smooth plant floor, and burned through it.

A chill went up Thrynni's spine with the knowledge that she would have to face these weapons in combat. The Yuuzhan Vong probably had other organic weapons too, more brutal than what was known of so far. She and Tresina moved on through wha they now saw as a sort of factory. Once they cleared the tree feild, they came into a shipard of asteroid ships, - coralskipper, as they were called.

Looking through the feild from side-to-side, Thrynni noticed a short distance away a group of at least oevr a dozen round-huts.

"You know, I'm surprised we haven't ran into any Vong at all," Thrynni said.

"Well, lets not let our guard down," Tresina instructed. "We should split up to cover more ground -"

"Right, I'll take the campsite." But Thrynni only took one step away from her before Tresina raised her arm, prompting the younger Jedi to stop.

"No, those might the Yuuzhan Vong's home away from home." she nodded at the ships. "You go and examine those ships, see how they work. I'll see who might be in those huts; it might be captured slave - or not."

Thrynni only nodded and diverted her direction towards the feild.

"May the Force with you, Thrynni."

"And with you, Master Lobi"

The two separated and started for their destinations. It only took them both a few minutes to get to the campsite and the shipyard.

The camp was made up of several dozen large, softly material-made huts and all around were tall tattooed figured walking about. Tresina quietly moved from one hut to the other, careful not to make any sudden noise. As she sneaked through the entrances to some huts, she spared a moment to look inside, but saw no one.

At first, she had started to rely on the Force to sense where the patrolling Yuuzhan Vong were within the campsite, but then remembered that would be of no use. However, she soon sened others, which meant there were prisoners here.

The Force led her to one of the larger huts; Tresina could feel the dadness and despair of somewhere around two dozen people. She slowly circled around the hut, staying against the sift material used for it, stopping an inch short of being in the eysight of a large crowd - Yuuzhan Vong and non Yuuzhan Vong.

What she was an unwelcoming sight: A line of ten or so different species, Rodiana, Bith, Toydariana, and others, being led through the camp by Yuuzhan Vong who were constantly pushing them forward, what Tresina believed was cursing at them in their native tongue; and one used one of them used his serpent weapon to whip a female humanoid on the back for slowing her already weak pace down. The woman screamed in pain and cried. The whipping Yuuzha Vong just growled at her weeping.

Tresina turned away from the sight and bit her lip; though Jedi were not supposed to hate, these Yuuzhan Vong came close to the line. Being able to sense the captured civilians in the Force, she followed them from a distance to one of the huts.

Watching the shadows, Tresina saw the Yuuzhan Vong throw their prisoners into the hut and then they talked in their native language. Most of them departed, except for two who took guard at the hut entrance.

The Jedi Master decided then and there not sit idly by while innocents were being enslaved and mistreated, Tresina moved back around the hut and took out her lightsaber. Using her long cloak to cover the beam it would produce, she activated it in low power so it wouldn't be heard. Slowly, she cut through the hut's fabric-material easily and made a large enough hole to fit through.

Once finished, she deactivated her lightsaber, kicked down the cut circle into the hut and stepped in. The prisoners were sitting on the camp's dirt-floor, all crouched together; they looked scared and beaten down. The woman who had been whipped was still crying solemtly.

Those who looked to be lost in some daydream, which would be their only escape from this nightmare, had apparently not noticed Tresina right away, but after a few moments their faces seemed to come back to full awareness. Tresina raised a finger to her lip, instructing them to stay quiet.

All the captives slowly got up and walked towards her; it was then that Tresina noticed their hands bouned together in some sort of green goo, but there would be time to handle that, later. Though Tresina gestured over to the burned hole, none of them moved. They were clearly scared.

"Come on, we have to go now," she whispered.

Slowly but surely, they began stepping through the hole, one-by-one. Tresina wiated until they were all cleared, and exited out of the hut.

"How are we going to get out of here?" one of the prisoner asked, sound faint and weak.

"My ship is close by, now come on." Tresina motioned them to follow her.

The prisoners tried to keep a steady pace and walk silently like their rescuer, but were being troubled by their fear.

Now Thrynni had to be imformed of the new situation. Tresina projected a thought to the girl with the Force. Back to the ship, would be clear enough She hoped the young one would not perceive the message as a meaning that Tresina had been caught and try to come to the rescue.

Each of these ships looked thirteen meters long, and looked to be rooted onto the black-sandy ground. From this, Thrynni concluded that the ships were grown. Each also had a different color design; with a kind of sort of membrane that looked to be how the pilots were able to enter the ship.

Moving close up to one, she touched the membrane. The surface was smooth and warm; it felt like some sort of coral.

A question of how the Vong shielded themselves from enemy fire now came to mind. Thrynni took a step back, grabbed her T5 blaster pistol out from its holster. This was the best way to find out. Of course, sense these ships were still under construction, she knew that their shields might not have been placed in yet.

Still, it didn't hurt to check, so Thrynni fired a single shot at the coralskipper. To her amazement, the blaster bolt disappeared at contact. No holes were on the ships, no smoke came from a burning wound, the blaster bolt just disappeared.

"What can do that?" she asked herself.

From what Kyp Durron had told all the Jedi Knights at the gathering at the praxeum, his squadron had been able to destroy some of their fighters at first, but soon enough, their weapons became ineffective. She also remembered what Anakin had told her after the meeting about the organic weapon he had encountered at a doomed Sempidal. He eplained that the heart looking organism was what had been pulling the planet's moon down on it, and that when he fired at it the blaster bolts had disappeared. It had only been destroyed when an old man had thrown a thermal detonator at and it exploded near it.

"Okay, lets see if you suck this in." Thrynni holstered the blaster pistol, and unclipped her lightsaber; she raised it with both hands, and in the snap-hiss the blue blade striked right through the membrane, at the rpecise spot, Thrynni's shot disappered at. By connecting to the weapon, she made the beam's heat projected around the coral and continued to increase in temperature until it burned down to ashes.

A hole large enough to go through now lay on the fighter, inside, Thrynni saw the same heart-like organism placed on the floor.

"They manipulate gravity, so they're like miniature black holes," she concluded to herself.

Circling the fighter, she saw that it had a hole at what she assumed was the ship's nose, and it somewhat resembled a miniature volcano. This must be from where they fired their weapons.

Her examination of the coralskipper was cut short when she heard the footsteps of what was possibly a Yuuzhan Vong coming from the other side of the coralskipper. With a quick scan through the Force, Thrynni only saw what seemed like a void in the life-energy. It was definitely a Yuuzhan Vong.

She threw her head around, wondering where to hide, and then dashed off, circling around another coralskipper, then Force leaping onto it. She laid her body down against the curved roof, and slowly crawled up so she could see below.

A tall figure came out from the side of the coralskipper she had been examining. The Yuuzhan Vong looked like nothing Thrynni had ever seen before. It was tattooed around its body and it had horns coming out of both its shoulders and head. The Yuuzhan Vong also had one of the serpent creatures wrapped around one of its arms.

He noticed the large burned hole Thrynni had made on the coralskipper. He examined it for a moment and then looked away, making an angry growl, and started down the field of coralskippers, again, in a faster pace now.

Thrynni stayed on top of the coralskippergot until the Vong was out of view. She still laid on it when Tresina's voice sounded into her head. Back to the ship! Had she been caught and was warning Thrynni to escape. Thsi was answered when a squeal came from the direction of the campsite.

Oh, no! What if her master had been captured? If that was the case, Thrynni wouldn't leave her here, regardless of the order to return to the Howler. She jumped off the coralskipper and dashed towards the direction of the campsite, dark cloak and tied up hair waving out behind her.

Just as Thrynni was near the feild's clearing, a huge Yuuzhan Vong - at least a head taller than her - appeared, coming around a coralskipper, and spotted her. He howled at her and charged.

"Great, so much for just patrolling," Thrynni remarked.

Her lightsaber actiavted the second it had leviated onto her hand; Thrynni then got into a defense pose. The Yuuzhan Vong stopped at his tracks, eyeing her lightsaber, but the next moment he roared madly and untangled his snake weapon from his arm, making it solid, with the fangs sticking out, and dripping venom.

"So, you guys are more into sword fights," Thrynni said bravely. "I'm fine with that."
