Disclaimer: I don't own Star Wars, save the characters and concepts that I have obviously created. Happy?
A/N: Well, I said I wasn't gonna do it, but everyone breaks promises sometimes, right? Here you go. Something to keep you happy while you wait for posts on the other two fics.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Prologue
They have said my mother was once the strongest woman to ever rule the Sixty-Three. I suppose, in a way, it could still be claimed with some truth, but not like it was before.
If you listen closely, you can hear them whisper about how it was before; how my father used to laugh easily, how he spent so much time trying to share his joy with her.
Few of them talk aloud of it anymore, since Mother sent the last servant who told me these things away.
My father is quiet now, as he has always been to me. He still smiles, but I’ve never heard him laugh.
My father loves my mother very much; no servant had to tell me that. The way he watches her when she comes into the room; the way his face lights up whenever she looks at him; I just know. I’ve always known.
If I were ever asked, which I am sure I never would be, I would have to say my mother loves him as well.
No, I’ve never seen them kiss, which causes me to consider my own existence a miracle from the Powers, but still, I am sure of it. When she is tired, she goes to him and she feels better. When she is sad, she sits with him, and he is sad with her; and when she is lonely, she just lets him hold her.
So why does she never smile?
I once asked my mother what it was she regretted most in her life. Not loving my own mother enough, I expected her to say, not realizing what was important in life. You know the type of thing one can almost count on their mother saying.
Yet she did not say such things.
I watched her as she stilled there, her eyes traveling far away, pausing halfway through the flourishing signature I used to try to copy for hours.
I have never seen my mother so torn as she was in that moment.
She glanced at me for a moment, then looked away, a dim glow in her eyes that I only now understand as pain.
My mother never answered me that day, but I know what it was that she could not say.
I am my mother’s greatest mistake.
I am the one thing my mother most loves—and despises—about herself.
I am Nikae’ah Tse Chume Ald’el Djo, and this is my tale.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I realize this may be shorter than some of you readers are used to. However, keep in mind, it is the prologue, and therefore, is not meant to be a full-length chapter. A large part of this fic is already written, so posting may be more regular than usual.
Finally, this is a shorter fic. Perhaps one could even refer to it as a vignette, but a long one. Have I made sense? I hope so.
Hope you all enjoy reading!

New post!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
There were few times the glowing lights of Coruscant had ever looked so dim and bleak.
Jedi Knight Jacen Solo shook uncontrollably as he looked out the wall-sized viewport in front of him.
The Jedi Temple had always been a place of refuge for him; a place he called home.
Now it only felt like a prison.
Or was it his way of life that seemed a cell?
He had seen her only a night before, when the council had dispatched him once again to war-torn Sixty-Three.
He had only to think of it, and his mind called up the associative excitement he’d felt, knowing they would be together again.
Yet when she entered his quarters that night, closing the door behind herself as she always did, it was not love or longing that radiated from her, but fear.
He dropped his forehead against the cool, hard transparasteel of the window at the memory.
He sighed heavily, shaking his head vigorously as if to dislodge the indelible image of her terrified face.
“Something troubles you, young Solo.”
Jacen turned slowly to see Master Yoda approaching him, cane tapping the floor beside him as he walked. He bowed deeply to the aged Master. ‘Yes, Master Yoda.” He admitted quietly, knowing the futility of ever trying to lie.
The short, vermillion-skinned Jedi Master nodded and folded his robed arms. “You have sought the Force’s will on the matter?”
Jacen only sighed. “The Force seems to be silent tonight, Master.” He voiced finally, risking a glance at the older Jedi.
“Ah.” Yoda was solemn. “An honest answer, at least. Spoken to your uncle, have you?”
Jacen could do nothing but shake his head.
“Then speak to him, you should.” The miniature Master was firm. “Surprised, you might be at his understanding.”
Jacen doubted that very much, and he knew that Master Yoda could sense such misgivings, but he only nodded.
“Good. Now come,” he beckoned, “the Council has called a special meeting. Summoned, you and your uncle are.”
----------------------------------------------------------------
Short, again, I know. You have to give a student credit, though. I am writing!

Well, no, I guess I don't really expect to be able to keep up with all three at one time.
But with my luck, and you readers' persistence, I should be able to keep up here and there with all three.
It'll be an experiment, that's for sure, but hopefully one with a good outcome.
Oh, and did you guys want an update???
~*~Austyn
----------------------------------------------------------------
Heavy thoughts plagued Jacen as he loaded supplies onto the small Republic shuttle they had been provided with for the mission.
If only there was some way out of all this.
But all he had ever known was the life of a Jedi. He had always been at the Jedi Temple, from the day he and his twin sister were born.
His parents? He couldn’t remember the last time he had spoken with them; it had been weeks since he had seen his sister. The life of a Jedi left no room for family, either past or future.
Jacen wondered if that was part of the ancient Jedi Code, or if it was a recent addition, in the wake of the Dark Years.
His Master, his own uncle, Luke Skywalker, did not like to hear that phrase.
Only two decades ago, the Jedi had been in great peril, suffering losses like they had never known before. The Council had nearly panicked when they lost half of their members to an explosion. The Temple had been evacuated, all the students shuttled to well-hidden safe points across the galaxy.
Though, if the memorial in the Gardens told the truth, perhaps those safe points had not been so very well-hidden after all.
Great evil had been devouring the universe, and at the helm was a former Jedi, Anakin Skywalker.
Jacen’s grandfather.
During one of her foolishly-adventurous journeys past supposedly-secure net portals, his sister had unearthed documents and other communications that spoke of the evil the rogue Jedi had committed.
More interesting, though, she found memos of Council time that showed just how much of a struggle it had been for Master Yoda to convince the Council to allow Master Skywalker to train. Perhaps he, in turn, had fought to train Jacen and Jaina.
“Hurry, Jacen, we have no time for daydreaming!” his uncle’s irritated voice brought him out of his pensive reverie.
“Yes, Master.” Jacen apologized, hurrying onto the shuttle behind the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.
He waited as the older man put in the jump.
“Alderaan?” he asked in confusion, frowning intensely. “Why has the council sent us there? Alderaan is peaceful, what possible need could it have for Jedi?”
“Please, Jacen.” His uncle’s smile had returned, amused. “The Jedi aren’t only for keeping unruly citizen’s in line. We do have other purposes. Besides, the Council didn’t send us to Alderaan. We’re only stopping there to rendezvous with our other team member.”
Jacen was surprised at this. The Council’s most well known policy was its Master-Apprentice approach to all its dispatches. The situation must be grave indeed if they had bowed and given orders for a team of three.
“Master Yoda tells me there is something on your mind.” Master Skywalker prompted after the hyperdrive kicked in.
Jacen hoped he didn’t look as ill at ease as he felt. “Yes, Master.”
“Anxiety leads to fear.” the Master began to quote.
“Yes, Master, I know the Code.” It was Jacen’s turn to become angry. “Please, I don’t need a lecture.”
Master Skywalker looked surprised. “Ok, then, Jacen,” he said calmly, “why don’t you tell me what you do need?”
Jacen rubbed his forehead, wondering if he should really take advantage of his Master’s sudden genial behavior. “Could we maybe just talk like a normal uncle and nephew? Pretend—”
“That we’re not Jedi?” Master Skywalker finished, his face darkening. “You have no family now, Jacen. You have the Jedi. I am not your uncle, I am your Master. You don’t need anything more.”
“But, Master—” he pleaded.
“No.” the older man thundered. “This conversation is over. We have fifteen hours until we reach Alderaan. If you decide before then to discuss this as Master and Padawan, then I will be here. Until then,” he waved his hand at his Apprentice, “go meditate.”

Well, if you're confused, don't be too surprised. It's completely AU. Well, almost. You have the same characters, but a lot of them you normally see dead are alive, and vice-versa. Basically, the Jedi Purges were cut short when Anakin Skywalker was killed. The Old Jedi Order survived.
I'd explain it more, but a) it would give part of the plot away and b) I'll explain it in the fic itself as I post.
Hope I haven't driven you away with confusion.
That wasn't my intention. I hope you'll keep reading.

Well done, Twinish-Mine.
I'm rather scared though. Who was the girl in the prologue? Tenel Ka/Jacen daughter? Is that the problem? OR was she the daughter of another relationship that TK had even though she really did love Jacen?

New post! Thanks to Twin (
Agent_Jaid
) for playing beta once again and helping me realize the flaws in the post.
----------------------------------------------------------
‘…Yazhen.’ She whispered the name she always spoke to him in the dark. ‘What weighs heavy here?’ She laid one hand over his heart.
‘You.’ He smiled gently, taking her hands and kissing her fingers. ‘Me.’ He wrapped one arm around her as she lay down, pillowing her head on his chest. ‘Us.’ He traced her lips with one finger, watching as they pulled back into a loving smile. 'How I want this moment to last forever.’
‘There can never be and us, Yazhen. You know this.’ She admonished gently, trailing her fingers across his chest. ‘And what good would it be if time stopped?’
‘If I had this,’ he shifted to kiss her, ‘ forever, then I could have you forever.’
She pulled back slightly. ‘You know that is not possible.’ She sighed.
‘But there has to be a different way.’ He protested.
‘No.’ the word was forceful, but sad. ‘There is no other way.’
He tipped her chin up and kissed her again. ‘Pretend with me for a while?’
Her answer was a contented sigh as she lay her head against his chest.
‘I love you.’ He murmured into her hair.
“Jacen. We’re landing in five minutes. You should get up.”
Jacen eyes were already blinking open when his uncle knocked loudly. He felt just as anguished and exhausted as he had been when he’d laid down the night before.
Dreams and visions—were the two separable?— had barraged him all night long.
Now, awake as he was, Jacen found the daylight affected him no better. Nothing changed the sorrow that enveloped him.
He lay back, folding his arms beneath his head, looking up at the blank metal bulkhead over him, replaying that awful night on Sixty-Three over in his head.
“Jacen.” It was all she said, but he heard a million things in that one word.
“What’s wrong?” he asked quickly, leaping up.
Her hands shook as took his offered one and come to sit beside him.
“Tell me.” He pleaded.
Jacen stood now, pulling his tunic on and clipping his lightsaber to his belt, still remembering as he opened the door and stepped out into the common area of the small ship.
Tell me.
The words seemed now like a death curse. A life sentencing, and one he had asked for.
She had not able to do so, but he had known what she would have said anyway.
Jacen came to stand behind Master Skywalker, looking through the forward viewport as one of Alderaan’s breath-taking seas flew by. Beyond Sixty-Three, Jacen had never been to a planet that captivated him more. The vibrant hues of blue and green that seemed to swirl on the planet’s surface greeted his eyes, adding to the aura of peace that wrapped it.
Past Victory Falls and the River of Tears, which flowed through the beautiful countryside and eventually circled the capital, Jacen could see the upraised hands of the Renewed Hope, the memorial that celebrated the defeat of the tyrants that had tried to destroy all goodness in the galaxy.
His uncle said something to him, and Jacen nodded absently as the ship gently touched the landing pad. they had arrived at the heart of Alderaan at last.
As his uncle seemed to float down the ramp to greet the red-haired Jedi waiting on the landing pad, Jacen returned to his pained memories.
He had held her as she wept that night; wept because it changed everything, wept because it shattered their little world away from reality.
And the darkness surrounding them that night, he had cried, too; cried for things they could not change, cried because he could not protect her from this, no matter how he wanted to.
Cried because being a Jedi was no longer enough.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hope you enjoyed! It should be getting less confusing soon.

It's official...I'm totally addicted to this story. please Austyn, I beg you...don't go too long to give me my next fix. I need to have more J&TK.
Loved her accented Yazhen...very sweet and intimate...

OK...So TK did not train as a Jedi, the order is much as it was in the OT and Tenel Ka is about to be married off to someone? Is this what's going on?

----------------------------------------------------------------
The ancient legends on Sixty-Three were known for their pervasiveness, and the way they caused superstition among the people. Not a household among the thousands was without an avatar of whichever legend the family’s name represented. At each important family gathering, the clan’s own legend was told again and again, so that it was passed down through the generations, stronger and more rooted in awe and love than ever before.
One such legend was that of the Miétethrenil, or the Mother Wind. One of the ancient mothers had lost her infant son to sickness, and now wandered in the mountains with the baby’s body in her arms, wailing because she could not bring him back to life. The Anerithna, Dragon Father, knew it would be good for the mother to cry, so he gave her the strength to weep. Because of the dragon’s gift, whenever the Miétethrenil cries, she can be heard to the galaxy’s end, and her sobbing causes the winds that move the earth.
Tenel Ka had never believed the legends of her people like other did, but tonight, she was certain she could indeed hear the Mother’s weeping, her tears falling from the sky to mingle with the ones on the princess’s face.
She took a ragged breath, clenching the stone wall that surrounded the balcony, gulping in the cold air, trying to calm her frayed nerves.
Frayed nerves were the least of her pains.
The stiff wind whipped her hair around her, shrouding her in a veil.
Hiding her tears.
She brought one hand up to cover her face, so broken was she at the feelings coursing through her. “I am sorry, Jacen. I am sorry.”
But there was no other way. None.
No other way out.
“Why did you have to be a friend?” she spoke into the wind dully. “I want to hate you for what I am letting you take from me.”
She wrapped her arms around herself and sat down heavily against the cold stone wall, drawing her knees up to her chest, whether to ward off the wind’s chill, or its whispering voices.
It was all ending in a few days.
Or rather, it might as well be.
Life was becoming a dark prison.
In only a few days, her freedom would be nothing more than a very distant memory.
“Ayenta!” she suddenly cried, forking her fingers into her hair. “Why must it be this way?”
Yet it must.
The wind whispered back, mocking her.
She had seen the look on his face when she told him that night; felt his frustration and helplessness, sensed his sorrow as he held her.
“Save me, Mother.” She whispered to the wind, rocking back and forth as it wrapped its chilled arms around her.
They could do nothing.
The end was approaching, heralding with it a dark new beginning.
So why did she find more hope in the end than in the beginning?
The wind wailed with her, her only companion in her grief.
Finally, she stood and wiped her eyes. For a moment, she gazed sightlessly into the darkness below as it tempted her towards oblivion.
Defiantly, she ignored its call and turned and walked back into her room.
It was all as she had left it; teetering on the edge of a sheer cliff that dropped into eternity. But perhaps the Anerithna would give her the strength to get through her grief as well.
With a resigned sigh, she signed the document that would sentence her to safety on that isolated peak.
“It is finished.” She murmured wearily to herself as the sheaf of papers fluttered to the ground.
There is no other way.
~*~
“Master Skywalker! Jedi Kenobi! Jedi Solo!”
Jacen took in the greetings slowly, foggily, as they poured in from Sixty-three’s impoverished citizens and oppressed Royal servants.
Did they pray for deliverance this day, as he did?
It would not come for any of them.
Master Skywalker strode purposefully, a step ahead of Jacen at all turns, too engrossed in his conversation with the Alderaanian Knight beside him to even notice that his apprentice lagged behind.
Jacen soaked up the senses from his surroundings, each finding its place in his memory.
She had brought him to this sector many times, her heart uncharacteristically visible in the ways she chose to serve them, silently begging as he looked on for him to liberate them somehow. And he had wanted to, for her sake.
But then, they both knew now that some things simply weren’t possible.
Jacen sighed and hurried to catch up with the two older Jedi in front of him.
The city was beautiful, decked out in vibrant, flaming colors of Sixty-Three’s ruling house.
Penniless minstrels paraded through the streets, performing great ballads of the savior-queen who found her true love and everlasting happiness, and how her people rejoiced at her great fortune.
Jacen’s smile was a cynical sneer at the memory of how the same beggarly musicians had only weeks ago called the people to arms to overthrow the Royal house in the name of justice and liberation.
“Arise, arise, join your brother, call to your sister, this day we will be free…”
had smoothly changed to
“Rise up and dance! Lift your voice and sing for the happiness of the Queen.”
When one lived on Sixty-Three, it paid to follow the crowd’s leading.
Especially if the crowd included he Queen and her house.
Nearly naked children raced through the crowded, fetid streets, bearing what was sure to be the greatest contribution to the family’s gift to the beautiful Queen that had once played irak’iash in the streets with them.
Do not tell such lies.
Their mothers would cuff their ears when they told the tales, glancing around nervously to see if any nearby secret police had heard the slanderous talk of the ruler and was now coming to arrest the entire family.
But such was life on Sixty-Three.
He glanced up, realizing how far behind his Master he had remained.
“Jacen!” Master Skywalker was noticing the same thing. “Come on! Should I just let you pick the flowers and catch up with us later?”
Jacen hid a flash of anger he felt at his Mater’s harsh words. “Sorry, Master, I—”
“I believe he was scouting the area, rather than flower gathering.” Jedi Kenobi interjected neatly.
Master Skywalker glanced between the two of them briefly, then nodded. “Good, then. Keep at it, Jacen.” He offered a nod, the best of an apology Jacen would ever get.
Jedi Kenobi waited until Master Skywalker had turned his back before raising one red eyebrow at Jacen and smiling her brief, amused half-smile.
For a moment, Jacen almost felt like returning the grin.
Then he remembered why they were there.

RE: "My Light, My Darkness" VERY AU- L/M/O, J/TK/OC's NEW POST! 2/20!!!!
OK…perhaps I should have done this before…this is what I’m getting so far from this fic:
‘Jedi Kenobi’ is obviously Mara…and we’re going with the old ‘she’s Obi-whine’s daughter’
Anakin Skywalker went ‘rogue’ and wrought havoc and destruction…but didn’t completely annihilate the order, and there is no mention of Palpatine here.
Padme obviously had Luke and Leia and everyone must have known and marriage. Either ‘attachment’ wasn’t prohibited or there were a lot of horny Jedi breaking the rules if Mara is a ‘Kenobi’ not a ‘Jade’ and Anakin’s offspring and their offspring are all running around the galaxy. OR!!!!! Maybe attachment is NOW prohibited because of the damage Anakin caused…and that’s why J&TK can’t be together.
pregnantpadme Glad to see you came on over!
Are you kidding? I’m a slavish DOF fan now!
AU has always been a favorite category of mine, but the readers don't always appreciate it.
I’ve noticed that…and frankly, I’m not into OC stories…but mixing up the players I like can always be fun.
As for all your speculations, you're so stinking close, I wonder that you haven't been talking to Twin. *suspicious look at the beta*
Don’t go punishing the Agent yet. I promise I haven’t spoken to her…I just like the story so much I’ve been thinking about it a lot.
I will no longer be PMing readers to tell them of updates, unless you specifically request such.
Consider this my official request to be PM’d whenever you so much as spit on a story…ok, maybe not spit…but you know what I mean.
And now~~~~~~~~
Loved the folklore for TK’s planet. Now, is Sixty-three your cute new term for the consortium or have you only given her one planet to rule? Is it even part of the consortium?
She brought one hand up to cover her face
Ahhh, no Jedi academy training accident! I like this
“I am sorry, Jacen. I am sorry.”
But there was no other way. None.
No other way out.
So clearly she is doing this for the greater good…can she not abdicate and live happily ever after with JS?
“Why did you have to be a friend?” she spoke into the wind dully. “I want to hate you for what I am letting you take from me.”
Wait! What is Jacen taking from her? Her heart? Her love? Her youth? Why can’t she marry him?
With a resigned sigh, she signed the document that would sentence her to safety on that isolated peak.
“It is finished.” She murmured wearily to herself as the sheaf of papers fluttered to the ground.
Damn Duty to your people!
She had brought him to this sector many times, her heart uncharacteristically visible in the ways she chose to serve them, silently begging as he looked on for him to liberate them somehow. And he had wanted to, for her sake.
I’ve got images of Calcutta during the renaissance swimming thru my head
Penniless minstrels paraded through the streets, performing great ballads of the savior-queen who found her true love and everlasting happiness, and how her people rejoiced at her great fortune.
This was what made me think renaissance…or maybe even medieval…
But such was life on Sixty-Three
tough crowd…
OK…my question now is: Nikae’ah Tse Chume Ald’el Djo Jacen’s daughter and TK’s biggest mistake because she is a constant reminder of what TK had to give up…Or is she the ‘husbands’ daughter and the reason TK stayed on Sixty-three instead of running off with
Yazhen
(I melt every time I think about that!)
Keep the updates commin’. I’m really enjoying this.
Oh…an I might as well tell you…I’ve become obsessed with Tenel Ka of late and can lay the blame squarely at your feet.
Thought you should know…

RE: "My Light, My Darkness" VERY AU- L/M/O, J/TK/OC's NEW POST! 2/20!!!!
This is a really interesting story,
Daughterofflame
. I like the AU world you've created -- it's very original. And the characters are all written beautifully. Luke's really different -- that surprised me at first, but I guess it makes sense in this AU that he would be so cold if he's grown up in the Temple under the shadow of everything Anakin did. I suppose he would always have to prove himself...
Jacen and Tenel Ka are wonderfully written. But I'm wondering -- is love fobidden for the Jedi in this AU like in AOTC?
I don't think it's been mentioned, but I could be wrong...
Anyway, sorry to ramble on. I really like the story. Looking forward to reading more!
