Title: Seed of Darkness
Author(s): Grand Admiral Wettengel
Timeframe: NJO AU
Characters: Luke, Mara, Han, Leia, Chewie, Jaina, Pellaeon, Daala, Wurth, Zekk, Ganner, Corran, others
Genre: Action, romance, drama, bit of angst
Summary: Quite a different NJO. The denizens of the GFFA are actually going to be using their heads this time--except for Jacen (some things are unchangeable).
Notes:

The Dark Lord of the Sith walked the several feet from the sleek gray desk in his temporary quarters aboard Chimaera, which Grand Admiral Pellaeon was generous enough to provide him with and furnish it to his specifications, to the 'fresher.

The damage inflicted on the Super Star Destroyer Intimidator, had come as a shock to the top eschelons of the Imperial High Command. The shock of the suicidal tactics of their new foes came to fill the Fleet with a sense of dread.

His suspicions had immediately been aroused that his insane predecessor had managed to once again get another body from somewhere and had used Sith alchemy to create this enemy and their assortment of outlandish weapons.

As highly improbable as this hypothesis was, it could not be dismissed lightly--to underestimate the mind of the insane was foolhardy.

He nonchalantly stripped, dropping his garments onto the floor in a heap, to reveal his wirery, yet toned frame. He stepped into the 'fresher effortlessly and adjusted the settings appropriately--a fine, diffuse mist of water just to help wake up him and hot enough to clear his sinuses, and returned to his musings.

These invaders will have to be resisted and repulsed at all costs. Over the last three months, they had made steady progress in advancing and dealing blows against the meager New Republic forces thrown into action against them. He ordered Intelligence to closely monitor these operations to get an understanding of the tactics and capabilities of this unknown enemy, so that the Imperial Navy could hopefully launch a counterattack that would hopefully throw them onto the defensive.

Intelligence reports from Imperial commando units that had been ordered to infiltrate enemy territory had reported observing the arrival of dozens of additional warships every hour, obviously along with additional troops and those pea-shaped fighters they had--which, to his amusement, Chimaera's starfighter pilots had nicknamed pea pods. He had laughed aloud for a good minute.

Already casualties had been too high for his liking. The Jedi had already taken quite a beating, due largely to their leader's incompetence. And his heart genuinely ached for the losses sustained by the Solo family: the two boys missing in action, presumed dead and Jaina nearly losing herself to madness and grief.

He sighed and shook his head, wondering when Luke had suddenly become mentally retarded. To have wanted to send his neice and nephews off on a first contact mission to attempt to establish a dialogue with these ruthless invaders, was severely irresponsible. Surely the NR could have supplied any number of qualified diplomats.

At least he was able to keep Jaina alive through the efforts of his most talented apprentice hiding-out in plain sight on Yavin Four. It would seem that before his death, Jaina's cowardly twin had thoroughly indoctrinated his uncle into believing in his pacifistic drivel.

At least Jaina didn't go off to her death, but she did run off and it took a good month to track her down and another two days to get her to agree to come to Bastion with him. Her father--the NRDF liason to the Empire--was very pleased to see her in one piece. Han Solo had picked his daughter up, spun her around several times and pulled her into an endearing embrace.

Then to placate the Dark Lord and her father-general-ex-smuggler, she agreed to go back to Coruscant and try to smooth things out with her mother, aunt and uncle.

[More to come on Friday]

That last statement of mine is going to have to be amended. Next post will be up tomorrow--unfortunately, I just broke my glasses so I need to develop a good stop-gap measure to be able to wear them.

Still, let me provide some little plot points to wet some appetites:

***Jacen and Anakin. Are they both dead? Is only one of them dead? Are they both alive? The answer to all three of these questions are yes, from various POVs. But there situation won't be revealed for some time yet. Something to think about, something to worry about, something to bring a smile to your face, something to cause knots to form in your stomach--all depending on your POV.

***Anyone want to guess about the Dark Lord's apprentices? So far he has three. And he has a groupie.

***Things are not so well in the NR. There is a split, but it isn't between humans and non-humans, its based in a clash of cultures, of attitudes, and it will kill democracy.

***Jaina has a lot of bitterness within her, and is actually going to be a loose cannon. She's going to be wanting quite a bit, but she wants to get everything she wants yesterday. The Dark Lord and Grand Admiral Pellaeon are playing an intricate chess game, while she wants to turn the game into basketball.

***There will be a considerable deal of tragedy in this fic--a lot of characters will have their worlds turned upside-down and inside-out and see all their hard work wither and die.

***There will also be many internal and external arguments amongst the NR, the Jedi and the Empire.

***These are dark-siders Pellaeon can do business with, although the Imperial Army doesn't care much for the Dark Lord at all.

You're all lucky I found a comp with Net access in this hotel. I'm in CT for the weekend visiting family.

This post will be rather brief and its just going to set the stage for the third post which should be rather steamy. Or I might get around to posting that tonight. We'll see.

The Dark Lord stepped out of the 'fresher and into his room, a gray robe tied lazily about his waist as he looked about, his piercing dark-green eyes drinking in the darkened objects. He sauntered over to the nearest chair and unceremoniously allowed himself to fall backwards into it.

"About time you finished up in there," said a soft, alluring voice from the darkness. "Thought you'd never come out."

The Sith Lord thought he recognized the voice; while it was familiar sounding, it also wasn't. It sounded personal and impersonal at the same time, unnerving and comforting him simultaneously. "If you think you can just waltz in here and--"

Feelings of tiredness and fatigue washed over him in an instant. Relax. Relax. I know you want this, you know you want this. Relax. Don't resist.

The intruder stepped out of the shadows: a slender figure clad in a red dress, her eyes full of fire, her heart full of anger and misery.

Kyp Durron's eyes grew heavy, and having his reaction time degraded and his mind clouded with fatigue was all the time Jaina Solo needed.

Invisible hands wrapped around Kyp's torso and yanked him out of the chair, then his body was propelled backwards into the 'fresher, and he came to rest under the towel rack.

He was in a corner, and his mind was still in a deep fog. His legs and arms felt too heavy to move, and his vision was bespeckled by a dazzling hallucinatory light show filled with flashes of blue, red, violet and black.

He barely heard the 'fresher door lock.

Jaina turned from the door and slowly walked towards him. "Miss me?" She relaxed her grip on the ability of her reluctant lover to properly perceive the world around him, but the fatigue would remain and his reasoning ability would remain sluggish. Unless he smartens up. But I doubt that'll happen.

"Yes," Kyp admitted without hesitation. "How'd things go on Coruscant?"

"First, I came back alone, and do you think my mother would approve of me being dressed like this?" She pushed her hair back over her shoulders to accentuate her scandelous evening gown.

Kyp frowned and she could sense his disappointment. "Are you or aren't you happy to see me?" she snapped.

"Yes and no," he whispered while shaking his head. "I thought you were making progress since you were visiting with the members of your family that angered you so much and you left six weeks ago. I was hopeful."

"If you hadn't been so weak and pathetic in pleading--no begging--me to do everything I could to get through to them I would have left after six hours of banging my head up against a durasteel wall."

"How are you feeling now," he hazarded to ask.

"I'm just feeling numb and empty inside. I've lost most of my family, Kyp." Jaina blinked away some tears. "Either due to death or stupidity."

Kyp sighed and steeled himself for a potential temper-tantrum of dark side proportions. "There's something I have to tell you," Kyp began, "and all I ask is that you don't damage me. Wouldn't want to maim my dashing good looks, would you?" He smirked.

"Wouldn't dream of it, Kyp." Her smile widened. "How about you listen to your heart on a certain matter?"

"I've already given you my answer to that question, Jaina."

"Your answer had too many buts in it." She chuckled. "Afraid?"

_______

need to cut this short. Must get to bed. But hopefully this will be quite a tantalizing tidbit.

Re: Tahiri

Unfortunately, I am not a Tahiri fan. In the NJO vshe struck me as this clingy, pathetic, freaky girl. I fail to understand how the Skywalker clan was so attached to her. Was her characterization in JJK different? As you know, the NJO isn't exactly a hallmark of consistent characterization.

Now to return to that 'fresher . . .

"I'm not afraid of you," Kyp declared, pushing a few rebellious strands of hair out of his eyes.

"I know that, my reluctant lover," Jaina replied soothingly. "But you are afraid . . . of yourself."

"That's ridiculous!" Kyp spat.

"Is it? Why are you getting so defensive, lover?"

Kyp sighed and closed his eyes. "Just go," he whispered. "We'll talk later."

Jaina reached out forcefully and brabbed his Adam's apple and applied a judicious amount of pressure. "We will talk. Now."

Kyp growled. He could do little else in protest. The growl eventually devolved into a pathetic whimper.

Jaina brought the hand that had been at Kyp's throat up to his chin and then to rest upon his lips. "Shhhh," she whispered. "I'm going to get you over your fears; these pathetic inhibitions that keep you shackled. I'm going to liberate you, free you." Her tone was soft and alluring, seductive, sweet and non-threatening.

Kyp didn't know what to make of it. His mind was still trapped in this mental fog that had inexplicably settled over him. He couldn't even summon up enough mental power to get the answer to 2+2 and realize Jaina's hand in his mental confusion.

"Do you really want to be happy, Lover?"

Happy.

The word resonated in the fog-induced fragments of Kyp Durron's mind. How long had it been since . . .?

Happy.

He looked up at her, into her eyes--those brown inviting eyes, the dark lenses of which he'd gladly jump into, even if doing so would mean he'd drown. The expression in his glassy eyes reflected his mental confusion.

"Or do you want melancholy to be your constant companion?" Her words whispered into his ear struck a chord. She knelt down in front of him, her hands dancing through his tousled, unruly locks. "I'll give you night after night of happiness, as passion-filled as you wish. I need you, Kyp. You're the only one who can comfort me, make me whole again."

"Happy . . . " Kyp muttered.

"Yes, my sweet. Happiness for both of us." She leaned forward and gently planted a kiss on his lips, a soft quick one, since a passionate one would be wasted in his present state. "And I'll be getting out of your head soon--once you accept your destiny. Our destiny."

She increased her hold on his mind, causing more mental fog to roll on in, just to keep him sufficiently dazed while she headed out of the 'fresher to talk with those who had entered by now.

Fill your thoughts with images of me, Lord Durron.

Jaina slipped out of the 'fresher, glanced over her shoulder to look at Kyp--her helpless Kyp--and sighed as she closed the door behind her. Why does that man in there have to be so stubborn?

She had stayed on Coruscant as long as she had to please him and just having a small smidgen of hope that her mother, aunt and uncle would come around. Jacen and Anakin had died because of them. Trying to make peace with these kriffin' things was impossible, but when she had left she knew that another blasted peace mission was in the works, which would lead to more needless slaughter of their own.

Why didn't you go on that mission, Uncle Luke? She growled under her breath. Why did her brothers have to go? Why did they have to die? Why did Anakin have to insist on going with her brain-dead twin? Why did Uncle Luke have to wholly endorse his pacifistic babbling?

They're probably all just tired of fighting. She sneered. These things are an abomination that must be obliterated. They killed my brothers! They deserve nothing but death in return.

Her stupid uncle had told her that they had died for a reason, that the Force had decided to call them home--that it was for the best. Kyp had insisted that she not bring her saber with her, fearful of what she might do, and his wisdom had proven right. She certainly would have dueled with her uncle after that exchange--and it wouldn't have been a playful sparring match, either.

------

Next post will continue with the exploration of Jaina's feelings and some more background about her world being turned upside down.
