disclaimer: I own nothing star wars
Okay, this is about 7-10 years after TUF. It
could
fit in with TJK but probably won't later on. A Jedi(who may or may not be L/M's second son
) has gone DS and the jedi and the galaxy are on the defensive as he draws more and morew force users to his cause. please tell me what you think.
Jaina Solo wiped sweat from her brow drowsily. She had been at this computer for nearly 3 hours and had yet to crack the mysterious code. It irked her beyond measure that she couldn't even decode this simple transmission without Threepio's help. She had been put in charge of a group of Jedi who dealt with enemy transmissions and other various intel. It was normally Mara's job, but she had relinquished this shift to Jaina out of sheer exhaustion. It seemed there were many people working overtime these days.
Finally giving up her station to another, more adequate worker, Jaina took a seat on a small upraised chair in the center of the room to survey progress. Things were going reasonably well, but not well enough for Jaina's normal standards. She bit her tongue however, knowing that they were all doing their best and that was all she could ask for.
The door behind her swooshed open. She didn't need to turn to know it was Gad Namblin. He and Jaina had been testing an uneasy relationship the last few months, or at least appeared to be. Inside Jaina reeled when he appeared. Yes, she had adored his companionship, respected his leadership abilities, admired him as a Jedi...but when it came to that first kiss she had felt nothing, as if she had been kissing her own hand. Gad obviously didn't see it that way, and Jaina just couldn't seem to bring herself to tell him the truth. He was enamored, and she silently berated herslef for not feeling what she knew she should.
What's wrong with me?
she wondered.
He's so perfect for me. Everyone says so. Why can't I just FEEL something??
"How's it goin' soldier?" he asked.
She turned and smiled. "Okay, I guess."
He flashed a white-toothed grin. "Not up to Solo standards, though, right?"
"Maybe not," she agreed. "But pretty well all the same. Can I help you with something?"
"Yeah. How about helping yourself to a break; come have lunch with me."
Jaina smiled apologetically. "I can't leave the job. Mara would never forgive me."
"She'd understand. Come on...please?" He smiled again, mischieviously.
Jaina sighed. "I need to be here, Gad. I have responsibilities."
"The war isn't going to go away just because you take a half-hour break. Come on, Jaina, what's it really gonna hurt? Do they really need you here?"
Jaina rubbed her forehead wearily. This was an argument she could tell she was not going to be able to win without hurting his feelings. "Fine. Ussa, take over for a half-hour while I go out for lunch."

okay, no replies yet, so here's part two.......
Jagged Fel shifted again in his uncomfortable pilot’s chair. The mottled, swirling mass of hyperspace curled around his viewport. “Isn’t it lovely?” the woman beside him asked.
He turned to her and smiled. “I guess I’m just used to it. You haven’t seen it even a fraction of the times I have.”
She sighed. “I don’t think I would ever get used to it. As pretty as it is, I despise space travel. The trip back will be the last one I make for a very long time.”
Jag frowned. It was not the first time his fiancée had made such comments, but he supposed he would never understand them. The ability to fly your own ship and go anywhere you want was a freedom unparalleled. He had offered numerous times to teach her to fly the small ship she had inherited upon her parent’s death, but each time she had refused with great vigor.
They were on their way to Kuat, looking for some original, unique engagement band that Sari just had to have. She had refused any other alternative, proclaiming that it was worth it as a symbol of their love. Jag had reluctantly relinquished.
The war troubled him. He didn’t want to get involved, but supposed that a short trip to Kuat and back, drawing no attention to themselves, should be safe enough. He worried about what Sari would think of Kuat. She had lived a reasonably sheltered life in an aristocratic suite on Csilla. Travel and danger was not her forte, and the bustling, alien life of a planet like Kuat would no doubt be intimidating, especially with Kuat’s culture.
He looked over at Sari. She had sandy blonde hair that came over her shoulders, and bright blue eyes. She was short in stature, classically beautiful, and full of a naiveté he adored. She caught him looking at her and smiled. “What are you looking at?” she teased.
“Someone I love,” he said seriously. Sari smiled softly and leaned in for a kiss.

Sorry. I think that the current significant others need to get together and leave Jaina and Jag alone.
S.
EDIT: I think that Jaina's 'friend' might actually be worth something, but Jag's fiance is so shallow there's not enough water to swim in the pool.

The creatures now mingling in the crowd with Jag and Sari were various and numerous. Sari had oohed and ahhed at all the sites, but quickly set about her task of finding the ring she so coveted. They had been to three different jewelers already, but were luckless so far.
“I can’t believe we haven’t found it yet,” Sari complained. “My feet are getting tired. We should check into a hotel. We can look some more tomorrow.”
“Let’s look a little more first,” Jag urged. “Time is not on our side. It’s just now getting dark, anyway. The city’s prettiest at night.”
Sari sighed. “Alright. Let’s look at one more place, then we have to find a café or something. I can’t do this all day.”
More like three hours, Jag thought, but wisely kept the comment to himself.
* * *
Jaina pulled the cowl further over her head. It would not do to be recognized, and keeping to the shadows and covering her face was the best method to do so. Although the enemy had not yet overtaken Kuat completely, there was a strong majority who favored succession. The Jedi were therefore unsafe in such area, and kept their base and presence hidden. Jaina and Gad, along with a female Jedi name Dela, had volunteered for the nightly patrol around the city. Gad was covering the south sector, and Dela accompanied Jaina in the north.
Jaina’s comm chirped. “Go,” she said.
“Ready to turn in?” Gad’s voice came back.
“Not yet. We have a few more blocks to go. You go on ahead and prepare the way for us.”
“Are you sure?” he asked, uncertain. “It’s dangerous.”
Jaina let a hiss of frustration slip between her teeth. “I’m fine. I have Dela with me, remember? And I have this feeling I should stick around a little while.”
“All right,” he agreed uncertainly, while brushing her affectionately with the Force. Jaina flinched from the touch. “Be careful.”
“I will,” she promised. Turning to Dela she said, “Okay, just a few more blocks and we can head home.”

*bows humbly* Thanks! it gets better, read on.
It was around 2200 when Jag and Sari found a restaurant suitable for her tastes. They went inside, Sari ordering a drink and assorted appetizers, Jag a simple beverage that fizzed at the top and burned on the way down. Jag took the down time to observe the locals.
They all seemed abuzz with news of the war and the Revolution. Most, surprisingly, seemed to favor the Insurgency and succession. The Jedi and other government factions had been working nonstop to suppress the uprising, but the Insurgency would hardly be a threat if there wasn’t danger of planets falling into their hands.
Jag new little about the Insurgency itself. He knew the Jedi claimed its leader was a Dark Jedi, but most people scoffed at their assertions. A cloud of mystery seemed to hang over the man himself, and all Jag really knew was that he called himself Zyphid. The insurgency had began as a small group of Jedi who declared that the Jedi Order was corrupt, and should be overthrown and replace. Eventually it had spread to different areas also, and was quite efficient at making people see how ‘oppressed’ they really were. They managed to twist such propaganda to lay blame on the Jedi. Many in the Senate who had never supported Jedi ambitions leapt at the accusations, lending truth to the Insurgency’s declarations. This had proved a fatal mistake. Once the Insurgency gained enough support, it had turned on the people who had sponsored it cause and left them without a single loyal faction of their own.
The Insurgency had grown in leaps and bounds, and when the right size had made war with the GFFA. The Jedi had been forced to go underground because of the great bounties placed on their heads, and no one knew anything of where they had disappeared to. Ossus still held their Academy, but no one seemed to ever be able to reach the planet. The media blamed it on Jedi ‘sorcery’.
Jag wasn’t sure where he stood. The Chiss had chosen to stay out of it, and so Jag did too. He had, however, gained some respect for the Jedi during his time in the galaxy during the Yuuzhan Vong War. He felt himself leaning in the direction of the Order and the GFFA, but tried to keep a strict, nonpartisan view. It wasn’t hard, for the subject rarely crossed his mind.
“I’m ready to go, Jag,” Sari said.
“Me too. There should be lodging not too far from here, so we should probably walk instead of paying for a hovertaxi.”
“If you say so,” she said unenthusiastically. As they made their way out the door Jag noticed a group of humans and aliens sitting in a corner. They were eyeing him and Sari deviously. It made the hairs of the back of his neck stand on in, but he tried to ignore the feeling. They hadn’t even walked a block when he suspected they were being followed.
“Sari,” Jag said carefully, “I think we should quicken our pace. I think someone’s following us.”
“What?” she said nervously. “What do they want?”
“I don’t know. Let’s just hurry.” They did. However, they were still tailed for close to three blocks. Jag began to worry. He didn’t panic though. The streets were highly populated, and he didn’t fear any sort of an attack in a crowd.
Hs confidence vanished as the teeming mass thinned at an alarming pace the farther they went. When there was no more than three other beings around and his pursuers, Jag told Sari to run. The booted footsteps and excited cries of the band followed steadily behind. “Jag!” Sari yelled, exasperated. Physical exercise what not something she was used to. “What do we do? I can’t keep this up much longer!”
Before Jag could answer he lost his options. The alley they had headed down was a dead end. He spun instantly, raising his charric to high guard and popping of three shots towards their followers. Two fell from the fatal bolts. Sari screamed. The rest of the group, enraged at their comrade’s deaths, pulled out their weapons and began firing as well.
Jag grabbed a large steel trash can and toppled it onto it side, then dove behind it with sari. Bolts ricocheted off the thick durasteel. Every once and a while he leaned out to pop off a shot or two. They had taken cover by then as well. “What do we do?” Sari yelled over the commotion.
Jag had no answer for her.
* * *
Jaina stopped and straightened, the Force singing like bells in her ears. Danger seemed to be shooting at her from everywhere. she dropped into a defensive crouch, pulling her lightsaber from her belt, but not igniting it. She saw nothing that would cause such a profound sense of danger, but still it assailed her from everywhere. Passerby gave her strange looks.
“What is it?” Dela hissed. “What do you feel?”
“Danger,” Jaina said, still confused by the dizzying barrage. “Don’t you sense it?”
“Where? I sense nothing.”
Jaina closed her eyes. “I don’t know. It feels like…everywhere.”
“Concentrate,” Dela instructed solemnly.
Jaina did. She tried to regulate her breathing, and when she finally found a sense of calm she extended her Force-awareness, seeking her assailants. When she found the answer, it was both disturbing and puzzling. “It feels like, maybe three blocks north of here, but its not directed at us.”
Jaina could sense Dela searching the Force for an answer. “Should we go check it out?” she questioned finally.
Jaina stood, but kept her lightsaber firmly within her grasp. “That’s what we’re here for, isn’t it?”

here some more, and i think you all will like this part...
Jag’s power pack was almost empty. It was also not the first time he wished Sari was more militarily minded. She carried no weapons, and knew nothing of self defense. He leaned up over the barrel and shot three times, aiming carefully but only hitting one target successfully. A barrage of laserfire followed him as he ducked back down under the protective barrier. “What do they want?” Sari asked for what must have been the zillionth time. Jag knew, but did not respond. People like these prayed on wealthy tourists, and their intentions were most likely to rob them. Even though Jag’s salary was that of the average soldier, he was carrying a significant amount of cash to buy Sari’s ring.
Suddenly a noise that was familiar but not so became audible over the commotion. It was a sort of
snap-hiss
that sent a gentle jolt through Jag’s memory, though for the life of him he could not place where he had heard it. The laserfire suddenly ceased, and there was mumblings from the gang members. Jag chanced a peak out of his hiding place.
On the roofs of the buildings framing the alleyway stood two cloaked figures, one on each side. Their robes flapped wildly in the breeze and they held large shafts of light aloft in their hands. One held a magenta colored one, the other a soft violet. The realization of who these people where fell on Jag like a ton of durasteel.
They were Jedi.
Jag was too shocked to move. Then, before his mind could even begin to process the knowledge, both figures leapt into action. They both jumped lightly from their perches onto the ground, and held their lightsabers at high guard. One thug shot at the one with the magenta blade, but the Jedi easily deflected the bolts back at its owner. At the death of their comrade the others charged at the Jedi with murder in their eyes. It took less than thirty seconds, Jag was sure, for the Jedi to smoothly and confidently dispose of their attackers.
What struck him the most was that neither fought offensively. They parried attacks and struck when their own life was at peril, but neither so much as shifted their stance. They stood still, quietly warding off attack after attack until there was no one left. When all were dead Violet stealthily moved in and out of the path of bodies, sometimes bending to examine a corpse or two while Magenta headed for Jag and Sari. Sari gripped Jag’s bicep desperately. “Who are these people?”
“They’re Jedi,” Jag explained. “They won’t harm us.” This he said with a little more confidence than he felt.
“Are you both uninjured?” inquired Magenta—identified as a female by her voice—as she stopped in front of them. She was extremely tall and slender, and here voiced held a thick accent of someone from the Core.
“A little rattled, but we’ll be all right, thanks to you,” Jag said, trying to sound amicable. Sari remained silent, still holding onto his arm frantically. She shivered with fear.
Magenta seemed about to respond when she stopped and turned to face her comrade, who had finished his or her inspection. Violet was much more petite than Magenta, but walked with more of a confident air. There was something vaguely familiar…
As their mental conversation came to an end, Violet headed off back towards the city, while Magenta turned to Jag and Sari. “My friend is checking the path to our base for danger, and will rejoin us momentarily. You must come with us.”
“What?” Sari exclaimed. “No way. I’m not going anywhere with you.”
Jag laid a hand on her shoulder to silence and further replies. “Why is this necessary?” he asked is the calmest voice he could muster.
“Because now you know of the Jedi occupation of Kuat. Word cannot be leaked back to the public and to the Insurgency. Do not fear, Master Skywalker will judge you fate fairly. Now, you must come with me immediately.” With no further explanation she turned and jogged slowly away from them. Jag shrugged and fell into line behind her, pulling a reluctant Sari behind. Jag knew it was of no use to argue with the Jedi. But the presence of Master Luke Skywalker did improve the situation slightly. Jag had met the famous hero on more than one occasion, and was on reasonably friendly terms with him. Actually, Jag knew several Jedi. He wondered if maybe he had met Magenta, once upon a time. He decided to ask.
“Uh, you know, I know several Jedi very well. I was a soldier during the Vong War. I was stationed several place where there was a large number of Jedi. I even flew with some Jedi at Borleias.”
“Borleias?” Magenta asked, sounding both surprised and suspicious.
“Yes. I was there for almost the whole campaign.”
“Hmm,” Magenta said. “My partner was a key figure in the Borleias campaign.”
“Really?” Jag asked, shocked and suddenly interested. “Who?” He looked ahead, and could barely make out the lithe figure of Violet ahead of them.
Magenta hesitated for a moment, then said, “Jaina Solo.”
Jag stopped dead, and was sure that his heart stopped beating for a full three seconds. “Jaina?” he gasped. “Jaina’s here?” He almost fainted with shock. Once upon a time Jaina Solo had been Jag’s whole reason for being. He had loved her spunk and rebellious spirit, had adored the sweet person he knew she was inside, and had dreamed of her kisses. He would have traded the galaxy for her, but that love had faded many years ago.
Magenta stopped and looked warily in his direction. “Yes. Why? Do you know her?”
Jag laughed despite himself. “Know her? I almost married her!”
“What?” Sari and Magenta said at the same time.
Jag blushed and attempted to rephrase his response. “Tell her who I am.”
“Who are you?” Magenta asked.
Jag pondered a suitable response. “Just tell her an old friend from Ithor.”
Magenta turned toward Jaina. In the distance Jag saw her slow her pace, then finally turn and come back. His heart was pounding out of his chest by the time she got there.
They stood on opposite sides of a ring of light made by a street lamp. Jag stepped into the light, letting the illumination bathe his face. Jaina stood stock still, and for a moment he wondered if she recognized him. Then she lowered her cowl and stepped into the light herself. “Jag?” she said in wonderment.
Many years ago, Jag would not have thought it possible for her to become any more beautiful. He had been wrong. The years had only matured her into full womanhood, and she now blossomed in her springtime. He recalled vaguely the first time he had seen her, on the ship over Ithor. She had only been sixteen.
Now the situation was much different, and Jag felt awkward and alone, as if everything about him had been put under sudden investigation. And then she smiled that famous Solo smile, and the next thing he knew she was in his arms and they were embracing each other tightly. He laughed aloud in his glee at seeing her again.
Finally he released her and pushed her back to arms length to examine her. “Wow,” he smiled. “You haven’t changed a bit.”
She grinned back. “And you’re obviously the same, too! I’m
still
having to rescue you!”
They both laughed at themselves. Then Jag remembered his manners, and stepped back and pulled Sari into the light with him. “Jaina, I would like you to meet my fiancée, Sari.”
The smile vanished from her face and a look of confusion took its place. She turned to look at Sari. Finally the grin returned in full force, and she said genuinely, “I’m very happy to meet you, Sari. You’re getting a very fine man, I can tell you from experience.”
Sari smiled and extended a hand. “I know.” Instead of shaking Jaina pulled her into a hug.
“This is my friend, Dela,” Jaina said when they were through. They all politely introduced themselves.
“Well,” Jag said, “does this mean we don’t have to go with you after all.”
Jaina pulled a regretful face. “I’m afraid not. I don’t have the authority to let you go. Don’t worry, Uncle Luke will take care of everything when we reach our base.”
