i used to think obi-wan used luke's lightsaber to battle vader in ANH. it really confused me when luke had his father's lightsaber in ESB. i also thought that (before i saw the movies) that luke and han were the same person.

So many.
I went from life savers to light savers to life saber until I realized they were called lightsabers.
I thought Obi-Wan trained Yoda, because after Yoda dies Obi-Wan tells Luke, "I thought I could instruct him (Anakin) just as well as Yoda."
Tarkin really confused me. I didn't get how he could order Vader around.
I thought Oola turned into that squid thing that Jabba ate after the Rancor got her.
I know there's plenty more

I thought the emperor in ROTJ was an old LADY, like a wicked witch type female!

I didn't know that Tarkin & Co were looking to blow up Yavin 4 in ANH - I thought during the trench run and everything else happening that they were just defending the death star from the x-wings!
"The rebel base is in range"
"You may fire up when ready"
-I didnt know what they meant by that, I just thought it was useless technical speak

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
Wow this is the funniest thread I've ever read
So here are mine
1)"I thought that the Holiday Special was just something I had dreamed of....Seeing Chewie's house, and all. I didn't realize how attrocious it was, either." Just the same thing that happened to me, none of my friends remember the holiday special, I realize that it was real because of the internet.
2)Dar Vader
3)Hans Solo
4)R2-D2= Arturito (thats Spanish for little Arthur)
5)I found hard to believe that the milenium falcon cockpit was at the side of the ship not at the center.
6)I didn't understood the whole Dagobah cave sequence.
7)I thought that the inside shots of the super ISD in ESB were from the Death Star.
8)The stormtroopers were robots, and I called them the bad white soldiers.
9)R2-D3 and C-3PO were real robots built for the movie.
10) The lightsabers were flashlights

When he was a little kid, my best friend's brother used to have nightmares about Yoda or E.T.'s bones chasing him. Sometimes it was one, sometimes it was the other.

My older sister told me that a little over four people played the character of Darth Vader.
One did the voice. Another walked around in the suit. A third to do the fencing. And the fourth did the breathing.
I believed her.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
I already knew a bit about SW before seeing the films thanks to my peers and of course Muppet Babies (only TV I watched from 2-5)
When I saw the movies I couldn't understand some lines but never payed it any mind, except I did hear it as The No-ad System.
The only confusing line I made myself figure out was when Leia is taken to Tarkin and starts talking in some weird English accent.
I couldn't undertand what she said but wanted to know the name of the old man in charge of the bad guys, so after much contempation I reasoned she called him "Captain Naytuk," not "Comander Tarkin," and thought she said "the more you tighten your grip Tuk, the more systems will slip through your fingers."
After seeing the movies, I went to school correcting all my friends on Vader's name (they ALL said Dark) And I remember reasoning that SW must take place a least a million years in he future, and couldnt figure out why they said "a long time ago" in the beginning.

i had no concept of what ANH was but all i knew was i wanted to go see it at the cinema with my sisters i knew it had to be better than being 2 yrs old and being stuck in a highchair getting your hair cut
i used to refer to vadar as that big scary guy but hey i thought he sounded really cool with the breathing and all

Unfoutunately I was also under the impression that the falcons cockpit was in the center of the ship.
Worse I only realised I was wrong when my parents bought me a toy falcon in 97.
(I was ten though)

I thought that the two lifting prongs in the front of the Millenium Falcon were the back of the starship and the light on the back was the cockpit and front.
