I thought it was the reverse, he healed himself with the dark side, using pure anger, rage and hate - but when he healed himself it made him happy, a light side trait, which reversed the healing and made him a cripple again. -----signature----- I'm not going to fall to the Dark Side... 	Hi, all. Finally got a chance to read through both Grievous articles in full and, first off, just wanted to pass on my thanks to all concerned in their creation. Grievous is one of only a pair of SW characters which I've ever really liked and gotten 'into' over the past umpteem decades I've been keeping casual tabs on the SW universe, so the fact he got any further attention from you 'official' folks at all earns a lot of gratitude from me right there. Of course, a whole novel devoted to him would be even better, but for now I'll take whatever I can get... Anyhoo, here back 'atcha is some response from one old bat of a Grievous fan who was already an adult when the first Star Wars movie hit the theatres... On the whole, I thought you did a commendable job of creating a Grievous background which, firstly, acknowledged a LOT of the official appearances the character's made to date. That couldn't have been easy and you collected and addressed just about all the ones I'm aware of very well. Secondly, I think you did an equally good job of coming up with a good background for what I see as Grievous' main target audience. It was more complex than I expected and I found plenty of the sort of stuff I know kids like, and the illos were very well suited in that sense as well...your Grievous ultimately came off seeming rather like the space version of an Afghan tribal chief and warlord, given a tad of a PC whitewash to make some of his actions a bit more palatible, or at least that's how he came off to me. I also got kind of a personal kick out of the occasional vagueness and all the throwaway bits, and confess I snickered over the inclusion of a certain couple of events in particular which left the character seeming so angsty (even wangsty, I'd say) that I just know he's going to make a lot of fanfic writers very, very happy. Tragic driven villains who are emotionally, totally screwed up...yup, that'll do it every time! I don't know if this last is something you even had in mind when you created his background, but that's what your take on Grievous will always be for me now. My only real disappointment--and this is coming from a more personal and adult level now--is that for a guy who's supposed to be an alien, Grievous sure doesn't act like an alien. In fact, if it hadn't been for my own prior knowledge and the odd mention of Kaleesh being tusked and reptilian and such (and the illos, of course), there's absolutely nothing in either article that would have made me think the Kaleesh were anything but a bunch of space-going SF humans, different culturally perhaps, but not so in any important biological, mental or emotional way. I suppose there just wasn't time to think out a whole different species background per se from the evolutionary roots up, yet still wish there could have been a few tiny hints of some profound differences, sigh... BUT, again, that's mainly personal preference. SW aliens as a whole have always struck me as seeming more like goofy-looking ethnics than science-based, other-worldly species anyway, and that never bothered me before, so even I have to admit that it seems a bit petty of me to whine about this at all just because I've finally found a SW dude who really interests me... In closing then, good job, and thanks once more! I'll be keeping an eye out for any further addendums to your Grievous work to date, and do hope you consider doing more 'Grevousy' projects in the future. Cheers! --Biddybot

	At heart, I always think that Star Wars is more about a human drama so that "alien" is actually a matter of diversity. The human race is itself incredibly diverse and there's plenty enough to handle all the oddities and diversities of our universe without making weird qualities for aliens that might not make any sense. The "humanity" of Grevious I actually felt was a far better choice than trying to make the Khaleesh have anything randomly 'odd' off of them. The very fact that the Khaleesh are so normal and yet are ignored by the Republic (even when the Huk are EATING their children) only adds to the tragedy and senselessness of humanocentrism.
