RE: Star Wars: Revelations Trailer
I believe the rules were well in place before that. That's why we waited until we were completly finished with Two-Ness to submit it. I have no problem with your film it promise's to be as good visually as anything else here. I just think "special treatment" has been made. I have no problem with special treatment, it is there site to run, just with poor treatments with others.

"Two-ness", its better than a kick to the groin!
You shouldn't criticize someone until you walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

<<You make a good point, and I am trying my best to find a good solid middle ground. First keep in mind that the Empire likes everything nice, clean and shiny. Check out the SE of ANH and you'll see spic-n-span TIEs docked in the hangar. Get 'em out into space, especially in ROTJ, and they do appear a lot grungier, presumably because they've seen a great deal of battle by that point.
Since Revelations takes place pre-ANH, I'm inclined to go with the style we see in Episode IV. >>
I'll agree to the point about the imps loving things clean, but i dunno, maybe just a bit too light...maybe too grey and steel-like rather than black and steel-like? sorry, finding it hard to describe.
<<While "horrible" is a fair bit of hyperbole, the lack of charring is all too visible to me as well. This I chalk up to a problem I had with material settings in my 3D program (MAX, for those wondering). I have since figured out a workaround, so the debris is nice and blackened at the detonation point. >>
ok, maybe horrible was too strong a word, but it did kinda spoil the mood for me.
<<Admittedly this was also tough, as the AT-ST sometimes has a smooth gait and other times has a more "stompy" walk. I chose the "stomp" route. >>
wasn't so much a problem, more of a comical observation. i quite like it, makes me chuckle.
<<keith seems to be the only one concerned with the audio >>
It was OK on my headphones, but then I don't expect perfectly balanced sound on a compressed film.
<<surely it should remind you of Star Wars in general!? - fast chases through tight spaces is a common theme in the canon, let alone any other fan films. >>
I liked it, it reminded me of ROTJ.
<<VERY, nice. Bad Compression, and the Audio needs some work.>>
are you watching the low res version?
Let's please not have a double standards arguement over the submission process. as has been said numerous times in the past, this is a polite dictatorship, not a democracy. besides, Azeem posted this, not Fenn. if you have a problem with it, take it up with Azeem.
EDIT: ^^^ not meant in an agressive way, just a suggestion to perhaps avert an arguement.
anyway,

ALRIGHT... Just a few things and one question...
I thought your trailer was absolutely fabulous. What amazing detail paid to your technical work and your cinematography is excellent. Truly wonderful work and I do commend you on such am ambitious project. I can't wait to know more about the story that's centered around all this chaos! DEFINITELY look forward to this one.
My question to you is this... Did you submit only trailers to TFN for approval of getting it hosted, or did you need to show them the whole movie before they gave you the thumbs up? Would really like to hear back from you on this.
Once again, truly remarkable stuff in there. I'm not an effects guy as many know, but when I see something that stands out, I definitely will let you know! GREAT JOB, guys!

Thanks for you reply Wes. I sure do hope you win the battle for the ADR mix.
Hopefully some of the replies here about the audio will ensure plenty of time is devoted to it within the schedule before release. There's nothing worse than leaving the audio as the last step and feeling the rush to finish up.
Actually though, my computer doesn't have speakers hooked up to it. I output all of audio to my Sony 5.1 surround sound stereo system, which I have headphones hooked to that. So when I originally heard it, it was only a pretty decent system.
No cruddy computer speakers here. hehe.
But Zap had mentioned the 3-day marathon in one of his earlier posts. I know that kind of pressure sure doesn't help any.
If you guys end up doing any of the mixing in NOVA, let me know. It's only a 2 hour drive for me from here in Richmond. I'd love to come up for one of the sessions if you would like another ear.

Just a side note... The trailer isn't mixed in surround, just 2 ch stereo... did you listen to it through the cans? Only the finished film will be mixed in surround.
Actualy all the mixing will be done in Central Kentucky...(328Studios.com) I have 2 of my edit suites reserved for this project.

Ahh, Duel Of The Fates. Will it ever get old?
Looking good. Pretty much all observable aspects of this production could be improved in some ways, but it's much closer to looking like a professional project than what we are typically used to seeing in fan films.

RE: Star Wars: Revelations Trailer
Thanks for all comments of all sorts. I just thought I'd mention one thing:
The dancing girl who someing complained "seem to be dancing to techno music only she can hear"... well, in the final film, you honestly think she is dancing to a John Williams score?
Also, it's not a holo projector, it's a "dont touch the dancer" forecefield. If you look carefully at the dolly shot where they walk through the bar there is actually another dancer in similar forecefields there... hmm... looking at how the trailer is cut you can actually only see the field not much of the dancer there.... but she is there.
'tis a groovy bar

Brilliant, I can't wait to see it.
It presents a new bar for me to try to rise above.

Yeah, I knew the trailer wasn't in surround.
In the picture I posted on the first page, it's obviously in stereo. I just meant that my stereo is 5.1 capable and external from my PC. It's a decent piece of equipment.
I listened to the trailer with the headphones on and off (I've got 5 Infinity speakers so the sound quality of the music and effects was awesome), granted I was only listening on the 2 speakers. But I still felt without even looking at the EQ and master volumes that something was wrong during the dialogue passages.
That's all I really meant.

PanicStruckPro or someone with power to wield, let Jeremy West recompress this baby. It really deserves better compression to witness it's visual grandness.
The bar has been raised.
I can wait a year for this. I can wait.
It won't be easy though.
