A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away a Saga was born. Arising from that emerged a different point of view and an alternate story. This is the continuation of that journey.

Although I've posted in BTS before, this is my first voyage as an author and I hope it is an enjoyable one. happy

My access to TFN is limited to evening hours only so that's when I'll be updating. I plan on at least 1 post a week, possibly 2. happy

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with LFL nor am I profiting from this story in any way. I will be using a combination of Star Wars characters and my own creations.

Rating: PG

Summary: The timeline for this story begins approximately 1 year after the Alliance defeated the Empire and centers on the relationship of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sakoya Jade and their inadvertent encounter with Mara Jade.

Cast: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Sakoya Jade (my OC), Mara Jade, the Skywalker family, among other characters from the Star Wars universe, in addition to outside characters of my creation.

** Italics denote a person’s silent thoughts or an emphasis on speech. Italics with a ‘*’ indicate mind to mind speaking. **

I would like to thank my beta, AnakinsLuv, as well as anakin_girl and PadmeLeiaJaina for their invaluable assistance. Thank you ladies!!!

In addition to the various references to my previous story, Alliance, I have also inserted a few excerpts to provide assistance to this story. For those interested in reading Alliance, the link is in the summary above as well as on my personal site.

I've taken the liberty of giving many, but not all, of the characters faces [of actors]. I've done this because it helps the reader visualize the character a little better. Here's the cast:

Regular SW characters (Obi, Bail, Anakin, Padmé, etc) are portrayed by their respective actors likeness in the SW Saga, to include Shannon McRandle as Mara Jade.

OC's:

Sakoya Jade = Dina Meyer (as in Starship Troopers)
Xar'ek Tinsir = Val Kilmer (from his Top Gun days)
Cela Sinatt = modeled after a few teenagers I know
Reynard Sindre = Jeremy Irons
Vaarn Nurgh = Yul Brenner (yes, an old but classic actor)
Rheu Skeutrn = Dean Cain (from his Superman days)
Garen Qeenet = Matt Damon
Regan Sile = Tia Carrere (True Lies, Relic Hunter)
Yurrn & Irgan Uyllt = (loosely based on Luis & Miguel Rico from Crocodile Dundee II)

Born into freedom only to be raised as a slave, Mara Jade – also known as the Emperor’s Hand – had done the bidding of her master, Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious for as long as she could remember. Now it was a time of turmoil and distrust for the young, fiery haired woman. Her mentor was dead and she not only felt lost but craved vengeance. However, such matters are not to be casually rushed into. They require planning and effort in order to succeed. Therefore, Mara integrated herself with Talon Karrde’s smuggling operation and ultimately found herself face to face with a past she never knew.

For Sakoya and Obi-Wan, turbulence soon assimilates itself into their new life together, shrouding itself in mystery and intrigue. The Jedi Trials never prepared them for this...

Lives become intertwined, albeit not willingly and survival depends on forgiveness – or does it? Will revenge and hatred overcome acceptance and love? How far will one person go to save another soul? Can light overcome dark?

Within these pages you may…or may not…find the answers you seek.

And now,
Whispers in the Dark…

Chapter I – A Joining of Souls – Part I

A thunderclap reverberated in her ears as Sakoya gazed wistfully out of the expansive window to the ominous weather outside. The rain was pouring down and as a result, she felt absolutely miserable. “This is NOT the way I had planned my wedding day,” she decried.

Leia tried to offer some kind of encouragement. “It’ll clear up by this afternoon. Just you watch.”

“Yes,” Sola added, “these rainstorms are normal for this time of the year.”

Padmé interjected with a chuckle. “I don’t think you could keep Obi-Wan from the altar, no matter how the weather tried to intervene.”

Sakoya turned toward her handmaidens. She suddenly looked as if she would burst into tears. “Does this mean my marriage is doomed? Is this an omen of things to come?”

Padmé walked over to the jittery bride and hugged her. “Ssshhh, don’t worry. Today is a joyous occasion and a little rain won’t hinder that.”

Leia and Sola exchanged glances as they watched Padmé confidently stroll over to Sakoya. As she finished putting on her dress, Sola thought back to her own wedding and how nervous she had been.

“She’ll be okay,” Sola whispered to Leia, grinning.

“If anyone can calm her, my mother can,” Leia whispered back. I wonder what I’ll be like on my own wedding day? she silently mused.

“A little rain?” Sakoya asked incredulously as she turned around and faced the discouraging weather. “That doesn’t look so ‘little’ to me. It could turn into a flood.”

“Hrmph,” Padmé offered through a veiled giggle. “No,” she continued, her voice light and playful, “I don’t think you’ll get out of this that easily.”

Sakoya turned back toward her friend, a look of surprise on her face. “What do you mean?” she asked innocently.

Padmé’s warm smile lit up her face, radiating her beauty even more. “My dear, you’re nervous – that’s perfectly normal for a bride.”

Swallowing audibly, Sakoya stammered, “I-I’m…not…nervous… Oh Force, I’m petrified! Will I be a good wife? Will I, am I, worthy of such a magnificent man? What if I’m not good enough for him?” Tears began to trickle down her cheeks. “What if I disappoint him? What if the Council changes their mind and reneges their blessing? What if –”

Padmé interrupted Sakoya by holding a finger up to the bride’s lips. “Ssshhh,” she cooed soothingly. “You have nothing to fear. Obi-Wan loves you with all of his heart and I don’t think you could truly disappoint him. You will learn that for a marriage to be successful each partner must carry the responsibilities equally – from the mundane to the most vital. After today, you and Ben will be one – don’t allow a series of ‘what ifs’ to cloud that.”

Sakoya looked at her dearest friend and offered her a shy smile. “You’re right,” she agreed with a nod as she simultaneously took a deep breath.

“There, that’s better. Now, dry your eyes and let’s finish primping you.”

Sakoya hugged Padmé tightly. “I chose wisely when I asked you to stand beside me at my wedding.”

“Of course you did,” Padmé stated with a wink. “Come…we ladies need to make sure we take your bridegroom’s breath away more than you already have.”

Earlier that day…

After explaining what he proposed to do, Anakin explicitly requested complete solace for his task, much to his twins chagrin.

“Let us help, Dad,” Luke protested.

“With the three of us, we could be done in no time,” Leia added.

“Thank you, but no. I want to do this for Obi-Wan as much as Sakoya. I owe them…”

Anakin walked into the grove with a large basket of white and yellow flowers. He stood in the middle of the trees, set the basket down by his feet, and then stretched his arms out wide. Closing his eyes and setting his mind and body at ease; he slowly turned in a circle and then journeyed into the Living Force.

Albeit gradually, a multitude of tree branches began to bend, as if the wind begged them to, but there was no such element present to cast the culpability upon. Then a smile stretched across Anakin’s lips as he heard the murmurs of the living greenery whispering in his ears. They had chosen to accept his request and formed an arch that covered the length of the grove – their branches and leaves stretching across to intermingle with their brethren and create a wondrous canopy.

One last task,” he said to himself. Shifting his concentration to the basket at his feet, Anakin sent forth the flowers into the intertwined branches above him – and the effect was beautiful to behold. When the Jedi opened his eyes at last, he couldn’t help smiling at the sight before him.

“Thank you,” he humbly said and bowed before leaving the decorative grove.

Late afternoon was approaching when the rain finally ceased and the sun thrust its warming rays back into the forefront. Outside, Jobal was attending to the last few touches for the ceremony and had sent Ruwee, Ryoo, and Pooja to check various little details. Additionally, she asked C-3PO to dry all the chairs [which he grudgingly did, in spite of protests that his valuable services could be useful elsewhere] while she inspected the flower arrangements that circled the blessed altar. The different floral scents blended together beautifully and caused a smile to light up her face. Alana, the village florist, and Jobal’s friend had done well, as usual. She couldn’t help but be impressed at how her friend could arrange the most glorious flowers and create aromas that captivated the senses.

Nodding absently, Jobal’s mind continued to mill around all the details of the fast approaching nuptials. In the time spent with her extended family since their arrival on Naboo a year ago, she had come to know Sakoya Jade very well and thought of her as another daughter. When Jobal had inquired about Sakoya’s parents attending the wedding, the fiery-haired Jedi had said they wouldn’t be able to. “They’re not among the living anymore,” she had said. Jobal had subtlety pressed but Sakoya steadfastly refused to discuss the subject further.

Jobal’s gaze floated around the grove of trees and fell upon the magnificent display that her son-in-law, Anakin Skywalker, had created. He had deemed it a ‘labor of love’ for two people that meant so much to him and he felt he couldn’t deny the bride’s request for her wedding. Although, he went above and beyond her request for an arch that would extend the length of the aisle they would walk.

As Jobal stared at the trees, she was amazed at how beautiful it had turned out as she stepped down from the altar and walked into the middle of it. Her head slowly trailed up the ivy-laden trunks to the glorious flowers her son-in-law had added. She was thankful that the deluge of rain hadn’t been able to spoil the exquisite setting.

“It’s so lovely,” she sighed.

“Yes, quite a unique way to accommodate Sakoya’s request for an arch,” Ruwee commented as he came up behind his wife and placed his hands on her shoulders. “You look absolutely beautiful, my dearest,” he added and kissed her lightly on the neck.

“Oh, you…” She swatted at him playfully. “How is the groom holding up?”

Ruwee chuckled. “All I can say is that I’m glad Anakin is in there instead of me.”

“Obi-Wan! Stop pacing!” Anakin growled.

Obi-Wan ignored his best friend and continued his relentless pacing.

“You’re going to wear a hole in the floor and then you’ll have to deal with Padmé.”

Acting as if he were deaf, Obi-Wan still continued his restless walk.

Anakin thought a moment and a sly smile graced his lips. “If you’re so nervous maybe I should go tell Sakoya that you can’t go through with it.”

That got the Jedi Master’s attention as he immediately stopped and turned around, his Jedi robes flaring out from the abrupt movement. He glowered at his best friend. “You’d never make it to the door,” he snarled.

Anakin tilted his head to the side, displaying a sinister glare. “Oh…really?”

“Don’t even think of it!” Obi-Wan stated evenly.

“I plastered your face to the ceiling once. I can do it again,” Anakin commented with a smirk as his mind recalled their ‘mock Force battle’ so long ago. 1

Obi-Wan stood motionless until a small smile formed on his lips and then he burst out laughing. “Yes, I remember that well.”

Anakin laughed with his friend and nodded in agreement. “So do I. We made a mess of the ready room and Padmé caught us.”

“Yes, but it was a grand time,” Obi-Wan managed in between bouts of laughter.

“Much like the mud fight we had.”

Obi-Wan chortled then began to laugh hysterically. “Our arrival on Dagobah, yes, I remember. Pelting you with mud was one of my glorious achievements.” 2

“Really?” Anakin displayed a look of amusement tinged with mischievousness. “I’d challenge you to a rematch since the weather is so ideal for such a spectacle, but I’d like to live another day.”

“Not to mention sleeping in a warm bed and not a couch…or worse,” Obi-Wan remarked with a smirk.

Anakin winked and nodded before glancing at the chronometer hanging on the wall and noticed the time. Looking back at his lifelong friend, he asked, “Are you ready to meet your bride?”

The laughter began to dwindle as Obi-Wan composed himself and then looked at his dear friend. The time had come and the waiting would soon be over. Quietly, he replied, “Yes, I am.”

__________________________________*****__________________________________

Sakoya preened in the floor length mirror, admiring the beautiful wedding gown she wore.

“Is that really me?” she asked to no one in particular.

Padmé came up behind her friend and placed one hand on each of Sakoya’s shoulders. “Yes, dear, it is.”

Sakoya took a deep breath and blushed as she stared at the masterpiece that had been created for her. How it hugged her waist, enhancing her lithe form. The entire bodice was made from the softest fabric Sakoya had ever felt and she was in awe at how her hand simply glided across it. From the front, the bodice dipped to a small ‘V’ at her chest and again, although more pronounced, at her waist. There it joined the sheer fabric overlay that covered the remainder of the dress and trailed to the floor, flowing outward in soft sweeps. In line with the bodice and draping enticingly down her arms were simulated sleeves, made of the same sheer material, and resembled a ripple effect. A thin strap over each shoulder held the ivory colored dress in place in addition to the lacing of the bodice down Sakoya’s back.

She simply looked [and felt] scintillating.

Chapter I – A Joining of Souls – Part II – The Wedding

The musicians had been assembled, the Nubian Holy Man waited at the altar, and the guests were now seated, waiting patiently for the ceremony to begin.

The tune of melodious music began to permeate throughout the grove as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin and Luke Skywalker, and Bail Organa filtered in and took their respective places to the right of the altar. The attendee’s suddenly became mystically quiet with the exception of the soothing music as they waited for the signal heralding the bride’s arrival.

Moments later, Leia Skywalker, and Sola Naberrie, beautiful in their flowing, pale mint gowns, slowly strolled up the aisle. Along the way, each of them lightly scattered red rose petals and then they too took their rightful places to the left of the altar.

Obi-Wan witnessed Anakin scowl at the sight of Leia winking at Han who was in attendance as a guest and, through the Force, ordered him to restrain himself.

*I promise I won’t make a spectacle of myself during the ceremony,* Anakin mentally assured his friend then silently grumbled to himself, Afterward, however…

Agonizing minutes passed, making Obi-Wan tense as he waited for his bride. He slipped into the Force, hoping to calm himself when Padmé Skywalker suddenly appeared and began to walk up the aisle. Dazzling in her gown, which was a slightly different hue than the other ladies and denoted her role in the ceremony, Anakin couldn’t keep his eyes off her.

*You’re so beautiful,* Anakin mentally told his wife.

*Thank you, my love,* she returned with a twinkle in her eye.

Just before Padmé took her place as the Matron of Honor, she glanced at her old friend and smiled brightly. “She’s ready for you,” she whispered to Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The music changed tone and became livelier and triumphant as the guests came to their feet. A brief moment later, Ruwee Naberrie turned the corner with the bride securely attached to his arm.

Take a deep breath,” he whispered to her. “You’ll be fine.”

Sakoya did as Ruwee bade her and reached into the Force to help soothe her nervousness. Within seconds, her face became less tight and her tense body relaxed.

“Much better. Ready now?” Ruwee asked with a smile.

“Yes,” she meekly answered.

Securely holding her bouquet of vibrant flowers in her moist hands, Sakoya and Ruwee walked up the aisle and toward the life altering choice she was about to embark upon.

She looks radiant,” Anakin whispered to Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan’s breath was caught in his throat at the incredible sight of his beloved. All he could muster was a nod in agreement to his friend’s comment.

Lost in her own thoughts, Sakoya blindly walked beside Ruwee, her eyes never straying from the man waiting for her at the altar. He was resplendent in his Jedi robes and the emotion he was radiating…she breathed in sharply, not from pain but joy. She fought to stifle the tears that threatened to overcome her as the love she felt for this man burst to the surface. Oh, Force…am I worthy?

Ruwee and Sakoya stopped at the base of the altar and waited for the Holy Man to pose his question.

“Do you, Ruwee Naberrie, present this woman for the lifemate rite?”

“Yes, I do,” he answered.

The Holy Man slowly nodded and said, “You do her honor.”

Ruwee turned toward Sakoya, whom he too considered a daughter, and lightly kissed her forehead. “Be at peace, love has found you – treasure it always,” he softly uttered then removed her arm from his own and turned to take his seat beside his wife in the front row.

Sakoya glanced at the people who had taken her into their lives and accepted her as a part of their family and smiled lovingly at them. She took one last calming breath then walked up the few steps that separated her from her future.

“Greetings family and friends. Please, be seated,” Arguleran began, standing in front of the idyllic couple. “On this day of joyous celebration we unite two souls into one. Love is a gift that teaches us acceptance and forgiveness, but it also surrounds each of us and cradles us in its glory. Today, two special people will begin their odyssey not as individuals, but as a couple as they stand side by side before us. May their path be blessed.

The will of the Force has brought you together; Jedi to Jedi, man to woman. I call upon Eriana, the divine Lady of aspiration and bearer of love. I ask you to witness the bonding of this couple and bless them in their new life together. Fill their minds and hearts with your grace. In your name we pray.” He paused briefly in silent prayer as the heads of everyone dipped in acceptance of his words.

The Holy Man continued, “I call upon Lord Kiritan, the purveyor of wisdom and guidance. I ask you to witness the bonding of this couple and bless them in their new life together. Fill their minds and hearts with your grace. In your name we pray.” As before, the guests bowed their heads in reverence.

Arguleran placed his hands out in front of him, his palms upward and waited for Obi-Wan and Sakoya to place their left hand into his proffered ones and loudly proclaimed, “If there is any among you who would challenge this union, speak now.”

The assemblage remained quiet and composed, save for one person.

Xar’ek Tinsir squirmed in his seat, debating on whether to speak up or remain quiet. He thought he had gotten over Sakoya long ago, but seeing her again…stirred his heart. Their mission to retrieve the Imperial shuttle reminded him of how he had fallen for her in the past. He began to open his mouth to utter the most dreadful words when he stopped himself. I-I can’t. She would never forgive me. As much as I want to stop this… As much as I want to be with her… 3

Since no objections had been voiced, the Holy Man continued. “Do you, Sakoya Jade, acknowledge before the Lord and Lady that this joining is of your own free will? That you will love and honor Obi-Wan Kenobi, forsaking all others, until separated by death?”

“Upon my oath, I will,” Sakoya softly replied as she turned her head to gaze into the emerald pools of her beloved.

“Do you, Obi-Wan Kenobi, acknowledge before the Lord and Lady that this joining is of your own free will? That you will love and honor Sakoya Jade, forsaking all others, until separated by death?”

Obi-Wan felt his heart skip a beat as he realized his dreams were no longer dreams, but a joyous reality. “Upon my oath, I will,” he answered huskily.

“Obi-Wan and Sakoya would like to exchange their own vows as well.” The Holy Man slowly nodded to Obi-Wan, giving him the cue to speak.

Obi-Wan’s throat felt as dry as a Tatooine desert and he attempted to clear it before he spoke. Sensing his friend’s distress, Anakin guided a reinforcing wave from the Force toward the groom that would allow him to be more at ease.

*Thank you,* Obi-Wan mentally linked to Anakin. Taking a deep breath, the Jedi Master then began to recite the words he had committed to memory. “My dearest Sakoya, from the first time I saw you, I knew I had stumbled upon someone special. You stirred something within me – something I couldn’t quite fathom, but it left me wanting more. Your spirit and independence inspired me, but it was your smile and charm that captivated and held me. You habitually visited my dreams, and taught me that loving someone can open a new world – waiting to be explored. I want to explore the universe with you at my side, Sakoya. You are my precious, mon aimé, and I will treasure you past the end of time.

Sakoya could barely contain her tears of happiness as she took a deep breath and smiled brightly. The sparkle in her eyes as unmistakable as the love in her heart. “Obi-Wan, my beloved,” she began, “at our first meeting, you took my breath away. I know it may sound strange but I felt I already knew you and wanted nothing more than to be at your side. I never truly felt alive until our paths crossed and I cherish each moment we share together. I never considered that I could love again until you proved to me that it was possible. The happiness you have brought into my life…I thank the Force for placing me on the path to you. Mon aimé, you are my soul and I will treasure you past the end of time.”

Once Sakoya finished, Arguleran then stated, “Before the Lord Kiritan, Lady Eriana, and these witnesses, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Sakoya Jade have sworn their vows to one another.” Placing Sakoya’s hand into Obi-Wan’s, Arguleran removed the silver cord that he had draped around his neck and wrapped the cord gently around the joined hands of the couple and proclaimed, “The sanctity of this cord will bind this couple to the vows that they have each made. However, this binding is not tied and is only enforced by both of their wills. Henceforth, you are bound Heart to Heart, Soul to Soul, Body to Body. You have received your blessings from the Lord and Lady – be at peace.”

With a bright smile, the Holy Man removed the silver cord and happily said, “May I present Mister and Missus Kenobi.”

Obi-Wan slowly brought his hand up to Sakoya’s face and brushed a stray curl away. “Missus Kenobi,” he whispered as his hand cupped her chin and they leaned into each other. A cheer erupted from the guests as the newlyweds lips met in an amorous kiss.

But what else should I have expected from such a gifted author? Anyway, looks like we're off and running, and I'm looking forward to seeing where we go from here.

Well done, Master Jedi. wink grin

Whispers in the Dark

Chapter II – Introductions

In a galaxy far, far away… on a planet located in the wild regions of space, a piercing scream had ripped through the atmosphere at virtually the same time the Emperor had met his death.

It was a woman’s scream – a woman with hair the color of fire and a disposition to match.

The woman’s given name was Mara Jade, although she was also known to a select few by another name – one that induced fear into the hearts of many.

The Emperor’s Hand.

Those who dared cross her bore witness to her ‘merciful’ punishment, yet they never lived to recount the tale.

Yes, Emperor Palpatine was quite thorough in the training of this particular apprentice.

__________________________________*****__________________________________

Mara ran through the forest, sweating profusely, yet determined not to give up. She couldn’t recall how long she had been running nor did she care. She had disciplined herself to maintain a daily regime of exercises and nothing short of her collapsing would hinder that.

At long last she reached the waters edge and without hesitation, ran straight into it and dove in. Her muscular legs pushed her downward, farther and farther, until she saw a glint of gold. With a gleam in her eye, she swam toward the object and plucked it from the large rock then propelled herself toward the surface.

“Ha! Knew I’d find you!” she stated with a sneer then laughed. “I threw you in just to test my resolve in fishing you back out.” Placing the gold necklace around her neck, she swam toward the shore and then walked out of the water. She sat down on a large rock, pulled her boots off and emptied the water out of them and then cast them aside. “CELA!” she suddenly shouted while she gazed at her trinket.

Moments later, a figure came bursting through the trees and collapsed on the ground near Mara’s feet.

“I-I can’t keep up with you, M-Mara,” Cela panted, trying to catch her breath.

“You owe me a life debt, remember? Your life is mine until I indicate otherwise,” Mara snarled then changed her tone and sweetly added, “Don’t I provide you clothing? Food? Shelter? Tsk, tsk, one would think you’re not grateful. Tell me that’s not true.”

Cela had learned to be mindful with what she said to this woman and chose her words with care. “Yes, you are very kind to me. I am very grateful.”

“Good,” Mara purred. “My boots are filthy, go clean them up and set out fresh attire for me.”

“Yes, Mara,” Cela answered rather subdued.

“Oh, and Cela,” Mara said, her tone even and dangerous, “I suggest you learn to keep up with me.”

Cela shivered slightly and it had nothing to do with the cool wind that chilled her sweaty backside. “Yes, Mistress Mara.” Cela picked up the boots and ran toward the ship, happy to be free for the moment.

“Little cad,” Mara mused as she toyed with the medallion on her necklace. “All I have left from you is this,” she sighed. “But not to worry, my mentor, I will avenge you.” Mara stood up and began the leisurely stroll toward her ship, the Conquest.

__________________________________*****__________________________________

Cela Sinatt had been a slave for most of her life and now, at the tender age of sixteen, she wanted nothing more than to escape her current ‘mistress’. Although the penalty if she were caught would be certain, unimaginable death and she wasn’t quite prepared to face such a demise – not yet. She determined she would bide her time and somehow, something would enable her true freedom at last.

“Cela?”

The silver haired girl nearly jumped out of her skin at the sound of Mara’s voice as she approached her from behind. There were times that the teenager considered the fact that Mara was part feline, what with the way she could contort her body and her silent, yet graceful, footsteps. “Y-yes?”

Mara chuckled, knowing she had frightened the girl. “We’ll be leaving soon. I have a rendezvous to keep. Rid yourself of your foul odor and make yourself presentable.”

With a sheepish smile, Cela darted out of Mara’s quarters and was gone.

“Such a good girl.” Mara grinned devilishly then rid herself of her own filthy clothing and walked into the refresher.

__________________________________*****__________________________________

Cela emerged from the refresher feeling invigorated, happy to be clean of the grime that had encased her body. She had learned very quickly that her mistress took her training seriously and when she had the inclination for a particular type of exercise; Mara simply found a suitable place and took advantage of it.

Her ruminations were interrupted as a sudden bleep and a flashing red light on her computer indicated a new message. Instinctively knowing who sent it, she walked over to the terminal and pulled the message up, reading it over quickly. Cela – input these coordinates into the nav computer and engage the hyperdrive. I’ll be in my quarters.

“Hello to you to,” Cela remarked scornfully then scowled as she recognized the coordinates. “Tatooine, oh how exciting.”

__________________________________*****__________________________________

Tatooine – a large sphere consisting of endless seas of sand bundled with unsavory inhabitants that were once governed by Jabba the Hutt, the notorious gangster. Jabba’s ‘disappearance’ had been mysterious to be sure. Some speculated that he was assassinated but no one knew for certain. What they did know and recognize was that another had taken over the immense worm’s territory – someone quite unlike his predecessor.

Why Mara would want to go to such a desolate and destitute planet, Cela could only guess. Although, what she knew of her mistress’ background, she surmised Mara would fit right in with such rogues. Cela had only been with Mara for a mere two years, having been reduced as the ante during a sabacc game between Sequ, her former master, and Mara. Sequ had ‘acquired’ Cela from an associate when she was very young and as she grew, he noticed how adept she had become at slight of hand. He took more interest in her, treated her better, and used her in various capacities in his smuggling. If he had thought to utilize her talent during that card game with Mara, she would still be with Sequ. The teenager admitted to herself that he could be a monster with his terrible temper, but he was still preferable to Mara who was nothing but cold and calculating. To her, Cela was no more than someone to use as she pleased.

Being Mara’s slave did have one benefit – she kept the lithe frame of the teenager in grand form. Her legs and arms had grown more muscular, as well as her torso, which displayed her stunning physique when she wore her exercise clothes. In addition, Mara was teaching Cela to be independent and self-assured. However, there was no doubt as to who was in charge.

The girl walked over to the small wardrobe she had been afforded, opened the door and gazed into the full-length mirror hanging there. Her deep blue eyes were bright and her silver unbound hair flowed around her shoulders in soft waves. With a sigh, she dropped her towel to the floor, took out fresh clothes, and then got dressed.

“Better get those cords set, or I’ll hear about it,” she said resolutely.

__________________________________*****__________________________________

The Conquest slipped through hyperspace bound for the desert planet. Its sleek obsidian design coalesced with the vast expanse of space and stars, leaving it virtually undetectable.

Mara landed her ship in one of the docking bays in Mos Eisley and implemented all of the security measures. If anyone touched her ship in any way, she would know.

“Watch and learn. Others will trample you if you allow it – don’t let them. You don’t need anyone to hold your hand,” she commented to Cela with a sly sneer while she strapped on her blaster.

“Then –” Cela began then stopped.

“What?” Mara turned, encroaching the girl with a powerful glare.

“N-nothing.”

Mara narrowed the gap between them and was mere millimeters from the girl’s face as she whispered, “I didn’t think so.”

Cela hated those looks, it was as if the woman could project herself into her mind and it scared the girl to no end.

They disembarked and walked out of the docking bay. As they stepped into the bright sunlight of midday, a hover-taxi approached them, hoping to earn a fare, but Mara waved it off. She had already decided that walking would be her preferred way of travel as she guided them to their destination through the sandy streets.

A short time later, they entered a small cantina and the duo purposefully strode in. Mara’s eyes quickly scanned the clientele and rested upon a man in a booth, hovering over a drink.

“This way,” she instructed over her shoulder and made her way through the crowd. “Oh, and pick up what you can.”

Understanding, Cela nodded and put her crafty fingers to work as she followed after Mara.

“Hello, Miss Jade,” the man said just as Mara reached the table.

“Greetings, Talon,” Mara replied sharply.

Talon looked up from his drink and espied the pirate woman’s counterpart. “Hello, Cela.”

The teenager blushed and shyly looked away.

“Be a dear and fetch me a drink,” Mara cooed to her servant who immediately obeyed.

“Talking nicely to the help these days? I’m impressed.” Talon raised an inquisitive eyebrow.

“Ha, don’t be. She serves her purpose.”

“She’s a cute little thing. Maybe I need to play sabacc more,” he teased.

Mara rolled her eyes, signaling her impatience. “You wanted to meet – what’s on your mind?”

“Always the businesswoman.” Talon shook his head. “You need to relax more, Mara.”

“Why? So scoundrels like you can cheat me on a deal? I hardly think so.”

“All work and no play…”

“Your point?” she interrupted, growing exasperated.

“Ah, yes, my point…”

Mara is in top Emperor's hand mode here. At least Cela is learning stuff that could be to her advantage in the future - to get away.

Very sweet wedding scene! As for Mara Jade, she's even worse than at the beginning of Tim Zahn's books. A slave and everything? Sheesh!

First thank you for the pm letting me know about the sequel and yes i would like to be put on the pm list. I read chapter 1 about the wedding this weekend and loved it. It was the perfect way to start off the story. I loved how you had Anakin set up the wedding area that was a wonderful gift to his former master etc. The wedding vows were beautiful also.

Thank you very much. Although I know about Mara, I've never tried to write her. You'll have to let me know if I do her justice. grin

I hope so - I'm trying to write her as I've read in the Heir to the Empire series. Cela does learn from her 'mistress' and it becomes very useful.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the wedding. I wanted it to be very special for them both. Mara's worse? LOL. Well, she did get Cela from her former master who quite possibly would have been much worse.

You're very welcome and I put you on the list. I'm glad you came to check it out. grin I really enojyed how the wedding came out and Anakin's 'gift' - I felt - was appropriate. Who better to call upon the forest than the 'Chosen One'? love

Whispers in the Dark

Chapter III – Arrival at Kuryn

Sakoya stepped off the stuffy transport and took a breath of fresh air. A week in a thing like that can dull anyone’s senses, she bitterly thought as she took one last glance at the massive ship. And the additional stopovers didn’t help much. I’m glad to be free of it. She shook her head and a mane of red hair whipped across her face.

“Time to find our accommodations,” she slyly suggested as she sauntered up to her husband.

“Oh, I see someone has a bit of an appetite.” Obi-Wan winked at his bride.

Sakoya wrapped her arms around her husband’s waist. “Perhaps…” She winked. “After that stuffy cabin we had on the transport I could use some fresh air…among other things.”

“Then let us delay no longer.” Obi-Wan smirked as his arms enveloped Sakoya in a tight embrace and whispered in her ear, “The honeymoon suite awaits us, Mrs. Kenobi.”

__________________________________*****__________________________________

Kuryn – a paradise in itself and a frequent vacation area located on the planet of Nevus where beaches stretched up the coast and warm breezes and sunshine were plentiful. The nearby ocean stretched long past what the eye could see and beckoned visitors to its shore. Small shops were abundant in the small city; selling trinkets to take home as mementos, but one place that drew many to its doors was the gallery. Its display of art from all over the galaxy never ceased to fascinate passersby, which in turn, were brought into the shop to browse and usually leave with at least one piece – if not more.

Not far from the heart of the town was an array of hotels, their exteriors all beautifully crafted with columns of stone from an age long since past or chiseled inlay. Each unique on its own and elegantly decorated interiors to match.

From the drop-off site of the transport, throngs of people with their own agendas milled around, waiting for transportation to their destinations. Among them, patiently waiting, were the newlyweds. Many smiled at Obi-Wan and Sakoya, for it was obvious the couple was very much in love and a few onlookers offered congratulations.

“Are we that apparent?” Obi-Wan asked in a low tone.

“It appears so, my love,” Sakoya replied, giggling.

Just as the Jedi Master was about to comment further, a series of open-air carriages – drawn by hestans, the purest of white – came strolling down the cobbled street. The long procession flowed past the assembled guests and gently came to a stop not far beyond the two Jedi.

“Aren’t they gorgeous?” Sakoya murmured as she walked up to the nearest animal and placed her hand on its muzzle, carefully avoiding the slightly curved twin horns protruding from its forehead. It craned its long, sleek neck toward her, adoring the attention. Smiling, she gingerly reached up and rubbed beneath the forelock of hair that rested in between its ears. The hestan shook its head slowly and Sakoya moved to its mane of hair, stroking the soft strands.

“Stunning animal,” Obi-Wan replied with a nod of his head. Glancing down, he took notice of the clawed feet, covered in long hair that matched the animal’s gleaming coat.

“Oh, these aren’t just animals,” Sakoya purred, “they’re creatures of grace and intelligence. I remember riding when I was little…” She paused and continued to pet the hestan.

“I never have. Ridden that is.”

Sakoya turned around. “Never?” she exclaimed.

“No,” he said with a shake of his head.

“That, my dear,” she smirked, “is about to change.”

Obi-Wan rolled his eyes and groaned. “Why do I have a bad feeling about this?”

Obi-Wan held Sakoya’s hand as she stepped up into the carriage and sat down. He then stepped up and sat beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. Meanwhile, the driver of their chosen carriage disembarked and picked up the suitcases, placing them on the shelf behind the coach. Once they were securely attached, the driver took his seat and set the carriage into motion.

“Your destination, milord?” the driver inquired.

Montique Resort.”

“Very well. An excellent choice, milord.”

Sakoya snuggled up to her husband, resting her head on his shoulder and her hand on his chest as a sigh of contentment escaped her lips.

__________________________________*****__________________________________

A short ride later, as the carriage pulled up to the entrance of their hotel, the driver announced, “Montique Resort, milord and milady.” Getting down from his perch, the coachman retrieved their luggage and set it down on the duracrete walkway.

Obi-Wan walked up to the gracious man, placed some credits in his hand and said, “Thank you for the hospitality.”

“You are most welcome. Should you need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to ask any of the hotel staff. Enjoy your stay in Kuryn.” The driver then took his seat at the head of the carriage, signaled his team and slowly disappeared down the street.

Before the Jedi Master could pick up their belongings, a bellhop came tumbling out of the resort’s grandiose main doors and stumbled right over their luggage.

Picking himself up off the ground and dusting himself off, the bellhop sheepishly grinned at the couple. “Uh, I’m terribly sorry. I’m pretty new at this and, well, I’m a little clumsy.” His soft light brown eyes practically pleaded for mercy.

*Clumsy, so that’s what he calls it,* Obi-Wan commented to his wife through their mental bond.

*Now you behave, beloved.*

*My apologies, my dear. Anakin must finally be rubbing off on me.*

*That’s what I’m afraid of!* Sakoya chuckled.

“May I take your bags up?” the bellhop inquired.

“I, ah, believe we have it,” Obi-Wan replied.

“Oh,” he said dejectedly.

Sakoya snickered and Obi-Wan rolled his eyes. “On second thought…”

“Oh! Thank you, sir! I-I’ll get these straight away!”

“What’s your name?” Sakoya inquisitively asked.

“G-Garen, ma’am.”

“Nice to meet you, Garen. I’m Sakoya and this is my husband, Obi-Wan.”

Garen nodded to each of them. “A pleasure, ma’am, sir. Follow me, please.”

“Such a softie,” Obi-Wan quietly told his bride.

“You’re one to talk,” Sakoya kidded as they walked arm in arm into the hotel.

After Obi-Wan had checked in, Garen led them to their suite on the penthouse level. Stepping aside, he waited patiently for Obi-Wan to input the code on the keypad nestled into the wall next to the door. Accepting the code, the durasteel door slid open and the couple entered, followed by Garen who brought their luggage inside and set it down next to the wall, out of the way. Slightly embarrassed, he nervously swiped his hand through his cropped brown hair. Finally, he held out his gloved hand and smiled meekly at the couple. “If that will be all, sir.”

Obi-Wan tried to hide his smirk but his bride caught it out of the corner of her eye. Shaking her head, she held out her hand and waited for her husband to deposit the credits into it, which Obi-Wan begrudgingly did.

“Thank you, Garen,” she said sweetly as she placed the credits into his palm.

“Ma’am,” he responded with a slight nod of his head and then left the suite.

“Thank goodness for the generosity of friends.” Sakoya sighed, considering the exorbitant amount of credits they would be spending during their honeymoon.

Their suite consisted of two rooms; a spacious main room that included a set of double doors on the far end that led to the balcony outside. Beside these doors was a decorative duraglass desk that included a computer console equipped with a holo-emitter and HoloNet access for the convenience of guests. Additionally, there was an oversized fireplace on the South wall with a median oval shaped mirror above it and windows nearly two meters high on either side. On the opposite wall sat a taupe colored divan accompanied by a small table, crafted from fine Alderaanian wood. Atop the table were sweetly scented native flowers combined with ornamental candles and encased by frosted duraglass. In between the divan and a matching two-person armchair was a large planter filled with yet another native plant, its tall stem producing a multiple of fan-shaped, long, slender leaves.

Inside the generously spaced bedroom the couple discovered a king sized bed, adorned with several plump pillows and a sage bedspread with sand colored leafy swirls sewn in. Across from the bed was a matching armoire that included a large screen holovid for their viewing pleasure. Also in the room was a sitting area with two plush armchairs, ideal for lounging, that gave a view of the balcony through the twin doors. Another plant, identical to the one in the main room, completed the synchronization of the bedroom’s furnishings.

__________________________________*****__________________________________

“Look at this view, Sakoya! It brings new meaning to the word ‘impressive’,” Obi-Wan shouted.

Sakoya joined her husband outside the double doors that led to the ample-sized balcony off of the main room. From there, the ocean in all its majesty lay before her eyes. Off to the left she could see the craggy cliffs; some containing the caves of unknown depths that she had read about. And the beach – endless white sand that extended as far as the eye could see.

The fresh breeze caught her hair, causing it to flutter out enticingly behind her. Just as she glanced over to her right, she was astonished to see a very special accessory to her room’s amenities.

“Did you know that would be here?” she asked, her voice low and sensuous.

“…Possibly,” he admitted.

Taking up a vast portion of the balcony was a full-sized Jacuzzi for two. The outside covering consisted of a decorative dark wood, accompanied by a short stack of three stairs that curved around a small portion of the spa. In addition, a bench made from the same wood, also wrapped around the outside and was usually used for the plush robes the guests cast upon it before entering the bubbling water. The Jacuzzi itself was made from a marble stone; its blue and white colors swirling through every alluring part of it, inviting guests to partake in its luxuries.

Obi-Wan’s arms encircled his beloved and he nuzzled her ear. “Didn’t you mention something about an appetite that needed to be sated?”

She leaned back into his embrace and smiled. She hadn’t a care in the world other than being in this wondrous place with the man she loved so dearly. “Yes,” she answered demurely, “I did…” As she turned around, her hands slowly made their way up his chest and around his neck, ultimately pulling him closer to her until their lips met in a sultry kiss.
