This set of drabbles is for Zonoma and BigFatty's
Ultimate Drabble Challenge, part 2
. If you haven't checked it out yet you should. It's a blast.
Anyway, they all deal with my OCs Master Thryst, and his padawan Aristine.
___________________
Week 1:
1.
Smooth - Aristine
Have you ever felt a pebble that was washed up on the beach? Master Thryst feels like that when he curls up in a roll against my neck. Often, when he’s up there, I put my hand around the stone in my pocket, that he once gave me, and it feels the same.
Thryst and I are like two pebbles washed up on a beach. We’ve both been tumbled about, and we don’t fit together even yet, but as we keep getting tumbled, we fit more and more.
Come to think of it, I guess most people are like pebbles.

2.
Rough - Thryst
Sometimes, there’s a kind of comfort to roughness that you can’t get elsewhere. And yes, even a Jedi Master needs comfort now and again, though I’ve known a good many who would never admit it.
There’s something about roughness that keeps one rooted to the ground. Aristine’s mantle does that. When I’m curled at the spot where her neck meets her shoulder I know I’m safe. The chafe of the coarse wool tells me that my dreams can’t carry me away. I don’t think people realize that Masters anchor themselves to their padawans as much as the other way around.
______________________
3.
Dry - Aristine
Even when it’s pouring rain, Thryst still feels cool and dry on my neck, like a stone that’s been in the shade. I often think how fitting it is that my first sight of him was actually of a stone likeness made in his honor, for when I think of Thryst, I think of a rock; of something that’s constant, abiding, predictable. Something you can anchor yourself to. No matter what the galaxy hurls at me, I always have Thryst curled at the base of my neck so I don’t get swept away. And I know I can handle anything.
__________________________-
4.
Wrinkled - Thryst
It’s never smooth, just like she’s never smooth. Aris’ life can, quite literally, be read on her sleeve. A wrinkle for each sorrow each joy. They’ve been worn so far in that they’ll never come out now. Since I met her, they’ve been multiplying; yes, some on my account—how else is she to learn?
There are those who say things ought to be perfectly smooth. I think they’re fools. Wrinkles make people. How can someone with no wrinkles have lived, loved, laughed, cried? Our wrinkles show us for what we are, just as Aris’ mantle shows who she is.
________________________
5.
Weathered - Aristine
I noticed today how old Thryst looks—I mean, as far as a lizard can look old. His eyes are bright as ever, but they’ve got a look to them, like they’ve seen it all, and there are no surprises; like the galaxy’s thrown all it can at him. I don’t know what he dreams about, but it must be hard on him.
People say a padawans should lean on his master. Who does the master lean on? I don’t know how far he’ll let me in, but maybe I’ll try to help. My mother
was
a healer, after all.

Okay, here's week two, as well as the little title page thingy that I forgot to add last week:
Title: Two Halves of the Same Whole
Author: Rogue_Pilot_2347
Timeframe: Inter-Trilogy
Characters: OCs (Aristine, and Master Thryst, others) maybe some cannon mentioned.
Summary: The development of the relationship between a master and a padawan.
Notes: These drabbles don't have any particular storyline, they're just little sketches of Aris and Thryst. I'm just trying to develop them a little more.
Disclaimer: Thanks to Goerge Lucas for letting me play around with HIS universe. The only part of these drabbles that I own are Aris and Thryst, and any other OCs that crop up in here.
Enjoy!

6.
Jedi
“It’ssss time,” he said, and for once, his tongue didn’t follow the words out. Aristine glanced up in surprise from the veena string she was replacing. Thryst’s eyes sparkled with a disturbing light.
Lately, his nocturnal movements had been waking Aristine. He was restless, never staying in one place for very long. In the past month, they had hopped planets five times. And each planet, Aris noted, had a larger Imperial garrison. At each stop, Thryst grew more irritable; less predictable. Aris had seen this coming.
“It’ssss time we go to the galaxy’ssss cccenter and ssee how thingsss sstand there.”
_____________________________
7.
Sith
Aris could suppress her Force abilities, so even a powerful Jedi couldn’t sense her. She was glad of this talent now, standing three feet away from Darth Vader. No training prepared you to face the Dark Lord of the Sith.
Aris fought a shudder as she felt Vader’s consciousness brush against her own. It was like a groping tentacle, searching for something. People said his wife had died a few days after the Purge, and that he had loved her dearly. Perhaps he looked for her in the mass of beings?
Aris longed for Thryst’s comforting weight on her shoulder.
____________________________
8.
Soldier
He kept his eye on her. Normal people, he thought, didn’t walk around with lizards on their shoulders like some witch’s familiar. That wasn’t the only thing that bothered the Clone Trooper, either. She seemed too…neutral. Most beings were quite vocal about whether they were for against the new Empire. He’d seen her at rallies and protests for both factions, and she did nothing but observe.
She came his way now, and the lizard stared at him with eerie green eyes, and flicked out its forked tongue. The Clone Trooper had the unsettling impression that it was laughing at him.
_____________________________
9.
Civilian
“This sure is something, i’n’t it?” The man’s eyes were bright with excitement. Aris could hardly hear him over the din. “It’s like the whole planet turned out for this one. We don’t usually get a crowd this good.
Try getting rid of us this time!
Sorry. Gotta do my bit, you know.”
Aris merely pressed her lips into a thin line, and Thryst flicked his tongue in displeasure.
“Some pet you’ve got there. Mind if I hold him?”
“In fact, yes, I do.” Backed with a tiny Force suggestion, the refusal sent him shoving his way through the crowd.
_____________________________________
10.
Politician
He was uneasy. “Look. The galaxy’s going down the tube. If you want some adice, do as I do: stay as close to the top as you can. I don’t think Palpatine’s right, but I’m not gonna stick
my
neck out to oust him. Not that it’d do any good. He’s glued in place.”
“But the protestors—”
“Are a bunch of rubbish that oughta be burned. All they’re doing is making my position harder.” Thryst flicked his tongue. “Look,” the senator added. “If I’m caught here, I’m dead. I gotta go.”
“We alssso,” Thryst said to his retreating back.

No, actually. He was actually invented in a dream. I was supposed to write a viggie about a glowing green rock, and had a dream that it turned out to be the eye in a giant lizard statue. Thus, the invention of Master Thryst. He's about a foot long, and is bright green, with glowing green eyes, and a forked tongue that he flicks like a snake. Technically, he's supposed to be a dragon, but everyone thinks he's a lizard, because he's so small (kind of like Mushu, from Mulan)
The picture in the following link is kind of how I imagine Thryst looking, only make the whole thing green.
Master Thryst
He doesn't really crawl on his belly, though. The picture's the basic shape, but he stands more like a dragon, and can curl himself up like a snake.

Thanks. Is he really? that's neat.
Here's week three.
11. Mother
On the transport away from Coruscant Aris thought about her mother. Lately she hadn’t had time to remember—and, truth be told, a large part of her shied away from it. She had a niggling thought that Atrea, ever against violence, wouldn’t approve of Thryst’s ways.
But what else is there to do?
Aris cried to the disappointed figure of her mother.
The Empire is evil—you must see that—and it won’t be beaten by words alone.
Banishing the image of Atrea to a remote corner of her mind, Aristine once more reviewed the plan Thryst had shown her.
_________________________
12. Father
The fact that Thryst was the closest she’d ever had to a father was more than a little frightening—after all, what sort of father can a dragon be to a human girl?
But when she explained her misgivings about his plan and her mother, and he listened attentively, accepting her doubts, she knew he was as good as any father—better, even.
And when he told Aris of his dreams of a man-made moon that rained destruction on the enemies of the Empire, he put her fears to rest, reconciling her dead mother and her strange “father” at last.
_______________________
13. Sister
The first recruits in their army were children—two threadbare sisters that clung together as a drowning man clings to a board. Their parents had been shot by the Empire for crimes hardly worthy of death, but rewarded with it nonetheless.
Thryst would have left them. He was a Jedi—good, kind—but he was a dragon; by nature, cold-blooded, and eminently practical. And there was nothing practical about taking in orphans. But Aris insisted. Leaving them behind because it wasn’t practical was as bad as murdering them to her.
The girls’ names were Sasha and Tamar. They were twins.
_______________________
14. Brother
He had a look of a creature hunted to its last strength—eyes wide with terror, red from straining to look for the merciless pursuers on his trail; hands shaking from sheer exhaustion.
Aris watched from a thicket as he paused to breathe, and started forward again as the hound-pack of Imperials picked up his trail again. He clawed at her thicket; crawled in; covered his trail behind him.
“Well done, brother,” Aris murmured quietly.
He started, turned, took in the girl and the dragon on her shoulder, and relaxed slightly.
“You are for us, if you would escape
them
.”
__________________________________
15. Friend
They were seven now—Aris, Thryst, Sasha and Tamar, Roark—the hunted one—a towering Wookiee, and a pale wisp of a man who’d left his best friend and moped constantly. “We were inseparable,” he’d say. “But he married the garrison commander’s daughter.”
Aris had tried to cheer him, and even Thryst, who spoke only before Aris, sent him calming waves through the Force—to no avail. He only wandered their headquarters, looking absolutely lost, and getting on everybody’s nerves.
Aris wasn’t totally surprised when he finally came to her and resigned. For some, friendship was too strong to break.

_______________________________________
Sorry I haven't updated. School was very demanding this month. I'm writing as fast as I can to get caught up. Here's weeks 4 and 5:
_______________________________________
16. Shuttle
“People are like starships,” said Thryst one day, as we sunned ourselves on the rocks outside his cave. “Take shuttles, for instance. Many beingsss spend their livesss going back and forth, forth and back, like shuttles between planets; never paussing to think there might be something more important.”
“Like busy mothers,” I said. “Only not quite, because they care for their children.”
“Like bussiness men,” Thryst corrected. “Too busssy collecting Thingsss for themsselves to pausse and look about them.”
He flicked his tongue in what seemed to be a cross between thoughtfulness and annoyance, and settled further into his rock.
________________________________
17. Fighter
Thryst didn’t say any more about people and starships, but I couldn’t help thinking about it - it was a strange concept that bore looking into.
If business men were shuttles, who were the other people?
The little man who clomped around our caves for a while was the first to be classified: he was a starfighter - one of the independent rogues that roamed the galaxy in ones and twos, looking for trouble in the chaos of the new government. His kind, I decided, craved thrills - who but a thrill-seeker freeclimbs a hundred foot rock face, nearly falling a thousand times?
_________________________
18. Freighter
Sometimes, I whished Thryst had never brought up the whole starship idea. I could never look at people and see only people anymore: I always saw ships.
When I went into town to buy food for myself (I never fount out what Thryst ate in the caves) I would see crowds of shuttles, going steadily about their business, ignoring everything else; and starfighters, mostly around the tiny cantina.
And the freighters.
I always felt bad for the freighters. It must be miserable to spend your entire life bustling about on your boss’s business. They always looked thin, pale, and harried.
_____________________________
19. Capital Ship
“You can’t come in here. This area’s off limits.”
The ‘capital ships’ were by far the most obnoxious - proud, self-important, lording it over everyone they could. It would make my mother cringe to hear this, but there are some people who make me
want
to use the Force to harm someone. These people earn themselves the title of capital ships.
They’re the snobby rich folks; superstars who think the universe revolves around them; even doormen who gloat over every unfortunate whose name isn’t on the List.
They taught me what it was to have ones’ scales rubbed the wrong way.
_________________________________
20. Space Station
There were only two people within my sphere of knowledge who weren’t classified: Thryst and myself.
For some reason, nothing I tried
worked
. Nothing, be it fighter, freighter, or anything else, fit us quite right. We were within the society - I had friends in town - but out of it. You can’t live in a cave with a unique lizard without being estranged from more ‘normal’ beings. We were almost totally self-sufficient, too.
At last, I asked Thryst.
He flicked his tongue, and cocked his head quizzically. “We’re ssspaccce ssstationsss, of course.”
Present, but independent. Count on Thryst to simply
anything
.
________________________________
21. Burn
“Aris!” The cry was from Tamar. She ran into my room, holding her left hand before her, the index finger boasting the shining pinkness of scalded skin.
“What’s happened?” I asked.
“We were playing by the exhaust pipes, and I fell.”
While I had not yet told them I was a Jedi, the members of our growing army had long since discovered my knack for healing. I loved it, but it was exhausting sometimes. And that was only little things—cooling a burn, guarding a cut from infection. I dared not do anything big, for fear it would betray me.
________________________
22. Rash
“How isss Roork’sss rash?” Thryst asked me.
I hesitated. “It’s…better…”
“But not good.””
“No. the asperia salve helps, but it’s not a cure; just a relief.”
Roork had been fighting a rash since I had known him. It had everyone puzzled. Nothing I tried provided anything but temporary relief. Even the doctor in town couldn’t find its cause.
He bore it silently, though it pained him. And still I wavered. It would be easy to dip into the Force to find and fix the problem, but if the Empire truly was hunting Jedy….
I didn’t really know our army yet…
___________________________
23. Surgery
Sasha grinned bravely as I delivered her over to the town’s doctor.
It was just her tonsils, the doctor assured me, eyeing Thryst nervously. Completely straightforward, if you know what you’re doing.
I eyed the bottles lining the shelf—they were not all medicines—and said I hoped he knew what he was doing.
Of course! None better than he! His eyes never left Thryst. Perversely, those who once worshiped Thryst now feared him. Thryst rather liked this effect, judging from the spark in his eyes.
“You’ll be okay, Sasha?”
“Now you’ll be able to tell me and Tamar apart!”
_________________________________
24. Hurt
He was always silent! Though his face grew haggard and his eyes again took on the hunted look they’d held that night when the Imperials made sport of him.
And still I hesitated. I didn’t know these people—not really. They were chance acquaintances. Of course, the Wookiee, Katrirr, I was sure of, and the twins. But the others? Roork? And Tren, who’d sought us out? How could I know they wouldn’t decide to turn us in and regain their standing in the Empire?
But he was in so much pain!
I decided to take our lives into my hands.
_______________________________
25. Heal
“I’m going to try something, Roork. I haven’t done it to anyone before, but it can’t do any harm, and it might do some good.”
At his nod, I placed my hands on his shoulders, and, closing my eyes, plunged into the giddy chaos that is a healing trance.
It was a swirl of color—healthy reds, blues, greens—and yes!—the brown of the rash! My mind put it to rights, shifting it bit by bit, before I backed into the world again.
Roork was staring, face pale, eyes wide with fear. “You’re one of them—you’re a Jedi!”
