No, not another SIG, just wanted to build a temple to the all powerful and mighty Star Wars movie trading cards of old (and new). Sure, I'll probably be the only one posting here in this sea of figure collectors, but this thread will slowly eat away in the back of your brain until you are all ever so slowly converted, dying to know why you can't find and Empire Strikes Back 3D cards, even though you're holding the P1 promo in your hand....then your journey to the cardside is complete. Pricing, info, artwork & photography appreciation, minute info on the back of card #58, storage, wrapper variations, whatever has to do with non-gaming cards.

Today's topic would almost certainly have to be the new Topps AOTC cards. After deciding to hit Target before the Midnight Madness onslaught, I thankfully was able to pick up a set of the 5 Topps tins (as mentioned in the Sith Council thread). Today, being a grand day indeed, my two boxes of AOTC cards arrived that I preordered months ago. After much ripping and tearing of wrappers, I made out like a bandit. Have one box left to open and I only need a single prismatic foil card...shouldn't be a problem.

If you're a promo card collector (and who isn't?) the new Wizard Magazine has hit the newstands at your local Comic Carnival or whatever hobby shop or grocer would sell this particular magazine. Issue #129 is polybagged with the AOTC Promo number P5 with that crazy Dookster on it. Having never bought this mag before, I was suprized that the register ran up $5.24 for it, but I had my card and the all too short peace of mind when you scratch off the card from the hitlist.

So, as the cards go, this is a fantastic set. The images are cool, the format is cool, the ease of putting together a complete set is nice as well. Oh, when I say complete, I mean everything. It's possible to buy a box of cards (36 packs) and not get one complete common card set, but that's due to the fact that there are more common cards in this set (100) and tons of chase cards that are easy to get. So, with the box I opened at lunch, I got 12 Silver Foil cards, 3 Panoramic Fold-out cards, and 6 Prismatic Foils cards. Haven't sorted the common cards out yet, so don't have a clue to how many sets of those I may or may not have.

AOTC Card Hitlist
  • Promos (P1-P6)

  • P1 - Pretty common, released in Diamond Previews (March) & Non-Sport Update Magazine (May)

  • P2 & P3 - sent to dealers & retailers. The add pack contained a set of P1-P3 & a "sell sheet", the cards & sheet can be bought on ebay for $5, definately under $10

  • P4 - Star Wars Insider #60 & Star Wars Gamer #10

  • P5 - Wizard Magazine #129

  • P6 - Celebration 2 grin

  • Megachromes - Only available in the Collectible Tins (Jango tin = Jango card, unlike the Ep1 tins)

  • Anakin

  • Obi-Wan

  • Count Dooku

  • Jango

  • Mace

  • Card Set

  • Common Cards - 1 thru 100

  • Wrappers - Jango, Anakin, Obi-Wan

  • Silver Foils - 1 thru 10 (Topps says 1 per 2 packs, but from my own experience and others, this is turning out to be more like 1:3)

  • Prismatic Foils - 1 thru 8 (1:6)

  • Panoramic Fold-Outs - 1 thru 5 (1:12)

What's curious is that while this set has probably the most spoilerific image to date, a lot of plot points from the movie have been left out completely, or only hinted at. A good sign (hopefully) that a second series of cards will soon be on their way.

At the moment, I'm missing Prismatic Foil #7 but I've got another 36 packs to unwrap tonight, so it's likely that I'll get it from those. If not, then I'll have to put the "trade" back in trading cards.

Traded for and finally completed my General Mills Jedi Berry Blast Sticker Card set. This is an awesome set...and the fruit by the foot turns your mouth all blue like a Dark Lord of the Smurf. I scanned the cards and pics of them can be found here.

I'm now saving my pocket change to buy a box or two (or three or four...) of the UK AOTC set, which is supposed to be completely different then the US set. At the same time, I'm working with a trader in Mexico who has an extra set of the these cards that TF.N just posted a story about here. At least, they appear to be the same cards. That's the problem with Non-US Food cards...same corporation, different country, using different names, usually the same cards. KFC had sets put out for Ep1 in the UK & Austraila, but one set had 2 or 5 more cards than than the other, but the common ones were exactly the same except for the numbering (making them completely different tongue ).

Holy Crap! You take a goodie bag box home or something? laugh Yeah, sure I'll take them in an effort to curtail the card scalpers of the universe. Whatever I don't use I can auction off to raise money for our group/charity...I'm sure between Ron/Jay/Skyla/Dawn someone's still out of pocket on stuff.

Topps Attack of the Clones Series 2! Need I say more? Hell yes I do! Tentatively scheduled for October (probably a couple of weeks prior to the DVD release), Topps is returning to the Widevision format cards for the next installment of Clone cards. Since many of the scenes from Ep2 weren't finished for card production, expect to see a lot of battle scenes and other spoilerific images that were passed over for Series one. They had some of the cards blown up at the Topps display and they look fantastic.

So after I wiped the drool of the Topps' counter at their C2 table, then the guy hits me with Widevision autographs from Ep2 actors! Bonnie & Amy were at C2 signing, so I would expect them...probably some other main characters and many secondary ones as well. Other chase cards would include a series of Chrome and Foil Embossed cards if Topps follows what they done in the past.

--------

UK AOTC is slated to come out on May 28th...by the time cards & boxes of those filter their way across the pond it will probably be more like mid-June.

I've got 5 extras myself...I'll just include them in the set I'm putting together for you. Did you get the P1-P3 packs at C2? I've got extras of those as well.

wink I do what I can. Do you need one set of them or two (I've got 3)? Also, keep in mind that the P5 card is already out and only in Wizard magazine (see above for issue #). P4 will be arriving shortly in the next SW Insider & SW Gamer magazines. Then your circle will then be complete.

Gooood....gooood. Let the need flow thru you...strike that magazine down and your journey to the cardside will be complete!

If nothing else, it will give you something to read while you're in line.

Don't have any of those books (neither for myself or otherwise)...Kerryn had given me some of her extra books that she couldn't fit into her suitcase, so I'll bring those to the next meeting if anyone would be interested.

Speaking of books....Art of The Attack of the Clones ----> (*#$#(*#&$# Fantastico! The hard cover is worth every penny...these are the only SW books that I'll pay for, and this is by far the best of the series, "hands down" as we dugs like to say. wink

Curad Kids Bandages "Cards"
Ok, I know what you're thinking....Seb, those are cards, those are "boxes" moron! Yeah, yeah, whatever...they're still pretty Rick McCallum Censored Cool. This set has 4 cards, each of which is glued onto the front of the box, so if you see them in the store, you can easily get what you need and not have to play the "card lottery".

Now, I was on a mission yesterday to find these damn things and besides some other shopping I was doing I ended up hitting 4 stores. Kroger, Target, & Marsh...nothing. Didn't even carry the Curad brand. Hit Meijer and found what I needed...barely. Some @$$ put the Yoda box on a different shelf, but I'm more powerful than the stock boy could possibly imagine. What was rather schweet about this whole deal was that Meijer only charged me about $1.45 per box, as opposed to the MSRP of $2.50 & the $3 per box that some other collectors I know were paying.

For fun of course, is the cool band-aids you get in the boxes themselves...cool if you a kid I guess. Yoda and Jango Sticker variants as we are calling them. I'll bring all the extras to the line this Wednesday/Thrusday to pass out....fun stuff.

Just got a fun little set Canadian AOTC Energizer Cards. These three cards are/were available with the purchase of batteries or something north of the border, a friend gave me this set so I don't have much info on it, she's rather cool. Anyway, the cards are similar to the Jedi Berry Blast cards...they're of the motion lenticular type of cards and they feature lightsaber fights from different movies. The cards feature: Qui-Gonn Vs. Maul, Obi-Wan Vs. Dooku, & Ben Vs. Vader. They are pretty much different scenes from the same fight as the Jedi Berry Blast cards and they have the Energizer logo and product info on the back in light grey. My only beef with this set is that the Obi-Wan Vs. Dooku image is cleary and poorly done in photoshop. Apparently they've taken a single still image of that fight and "moved" the arms and sabers to make a second pic to give it the motion effect. Probably wouldn't have noticed it if they hadn't of done such a poor job with Ewan's face...they've pasted on and reversed the image of him from a close up. Yikes.

Anyway, I just won a couple ebay auctions and have a bid or two in on some other non-US items, so I'll have more to talk about later. happy
