In the old trilogy everyone says Luke is strong in the force. But how strong. Does he have over 20,000 midichlorians lik Anakin or did the fact that Anakin married a nonforce-sensitive cut that number in half. If the latter is the case, then what was yoda thinking when he sent luke to the emperor?
Another thing, Luke never really seemed that powerful in ROTJ and also in the books that took place after Endor. Did Luke reach his full potential in ROTJ or is he literally as force-strong as Anakin and did he reach extreme power in the years after ROTJ?

Also, did luke actually become a jedi master or just a knight?

The EU deals a lot more with Luke's power. But in the movies alone, he's powerful just not fully trained, hence making him seem weaker. And he becomes a Knight in the movies.

yes, he seems weaker but when he is said to be 'force-stong', does it literally mean as strong as anakin or just stronger than average?
If the EU does deal with his power, I heard Luke got owned by this dark jedi in one of the post-ROTJ books
Does Luke eventually become strong enough that he rivals jedi like yoda and windu in strength or does he just become better than average?
does luke even become a jedi master?

When you say is he known as one of the most powerful jedi, does that mean as powerful as yoda, windu etc. or just one of the most powerful jedi.
I'm still curious about how force-strong is in comparison to Anakin.

I'd say that if Anakin had 23-24 thousand midichlorians, Luke probably had between 12 and 19 thousand, depending on how many Padme had.
SuperShadow had an interesting idea, I guess this would be roughly accurate:

I don't trust anything he says but, I personally think Luke has equal potential to Anakin and he actually reaches it whereas Anakin doesn't.

I think somewhere in the EU it actually says Luke became the most powerful Jedi Master in history.

Luke is not "as strong" or "equally" strong as Anakin in the force, nobody is - not Yoda, Sidious or Luke.
I do however think that, taking the EU into consideration, a strong case can be made that Luke is second only to Anakin. But we will never really know, the EU environments and characters don't have nearly enough information to put up a comparison between Luke and his peers, who he never knew.
Also, the EU has Kyp Durron

If you take EU into account, Luke is surely the greatest force user ever. While he does not equal Anakin in raw power, he certainly surpasses him in wisdom and knowledge, and he probably exceeds the power of Yoda and Windu as well. He becomes a Jedi Master, and while he does, in fact, get "owned" a few times, he'll become even more powerful.. By The Unifying Force, a good 30 years after ANH, he will not be "owned" by anyone. To put things into some perspective, Luke defeats Palpatine's youthful clone years after ROTJ. 8 maybe? This is in Dark Empire. The Luke of The Unifying Force is exponentially more powerful than even this... Scary thought. Definetly the most powerful force user ever.

Yeah, Luke is definitely if not THE most powerful ever he's right up there with the greatest. What makes him more powerful is that he tempers his power with the wisdom that experience brings. By TUF he's pretty damned kickass. Even in Survivor's Quest he rocks.

"I'd say that if Anakin had 23-24 thousand midichlorians, Luke probably had between 12 and 19 thousand, depending on how many Padme had."
I don't think it works like that. Otherwise, how would non-force sensitive people ever have force sensitive children, which clearly they do since Jedi weren't supposed to marry or have kids themselves. Force sensitivity is hereditary, but I don't think it's as simple as averaging the parent's midi-chlorian count. A good part of it is probably mystical and/or random. So it's quite possible that Luke could have more potential than Anakin. I mean, there had to be some reason why Obi-wan and Yoda thought he could face Palpatine and Vader... It would be really cool if when the twins are born in RotS, Obi-wan or whoever is at hand does a midi-chlorian count.
I can just imagine it:
Obi-wan runs Luke's blood through some scanning device. Stunned silence...
Obi-wan: "I... I can't believe it! This boy... His midi-chlorian count is even higher than Anakin's! This child could be our only hope to defeat the sith..."

You mean 'these children'?. As Yoda points out after Luke runs away to Cloud City, there is another. She must be very powerful as well. There would have been no reason to point that out if she didn't also have potential.
Also, midichlorions seem only to be an indication of potential Force capabilities. It wouldn't make sense if someone like Anakin could own the whole Jedi Council without his training in the Force. No, the midichlorions are not his weapon. The Force is. They just make it easier for him to tap into the Force, thereby allowing him to become more powerful with greater ease.
