Question, if Leia was trained instead of Luke and found out Vader was her father, would she have done a better job or a worse job than Luke in converting Vader?

I think Leia would make a good Jedi, but I don't think she was the one for the job in the OT. When it came down to it, the real victory in needed in ROTJ had nothing to do with internal rather than physical strength. Luke found it in his heart to forgive someone he had only known as a monster. Given all that she'd gone through under Vader's hands, and her nature in general, I don't think Leia could have forgiven and - dare say - love him, which was the crux of everything that went right in ROTJ.

in my opinion, a daughter vs father duel wudnt be as exciting. anyways, its awkward, after being tortured and abused by vader, she wud just have hacked vader's head off. i agree with chaotic_serenity

I killed them, I killed them all.
They are dead, every single one of them.
And not just the men, but the women and the children too.
They were like animals and I slaughtered them like animals...
I hate them!!!!

Yeah. Leia would have given into her anger.

I agree, with that. Leia would have given into her anger because Vader abused her more than he did Luke. But just for kicks, wouldn't Vader have felt worse seeing his little girl being hurt by force lightning than his son? I mean after he found out she was his daughter wouldn't he have developed a little fatherly protectivness? You know how fathers are with daughters, it is a different relationship than a father-son relationship. I don't think it would have been a better movie, but just for the sake of speculation it would be interesting to think about a father-daughter duel. Thoughts?

I don´t know why but people tend to forget that Luke didn´t do anything to convert Vader apart from crying "please please" ultimately it was Anakin who defeated Vader!

To keep with the thread maybe Leia would have cried better but somehoow I doubt it...

luisgv73, but do you think Leia would have brought out Anakin out of Vader sooner than Luke?

I think that as a woman her approach would have been different, probably less aimed at a direct confrontation, more "subtle".

To tell you the truth there is a good chance that she not only would have saved Vader but also by doing it in a way to keep him alive, somehow.

I have always thought that the whole concept of "the force" merges much better with a feminine way of seeing life and that the dark side is the opposite, more masculine. And I don´t mean a "boys vs. girls thing" just different approaches to life.

Leia might have been more willing to use the Dark Side, considering what happened on the Death Star. That would have played right into the Emperor's hands.

Leia would have had a built-in advantage: she looks like her mother. Vader probably held deep-seeded feelings of guilt over losing Amidala to his own selfishness (and I don't think that is spoiling anything in ROTS. I am stating the obvious: if Amidala isn't around in the OT, he obviously lost her. I'm inferring he thinks it is his own fault). Leia could have tapped into that.

I think the guilt angle played into Vader eventually saving Luke. Guilt over what he had done to his family and the Jedi. Leia would have gotten him to see that sooner.

luisgv73, Good point. I think she would have wanted to speek with him without the Emperor around. She would have spent more time reasoning with him, perhaps trying to guilt trip him, and tell him that she loves him, and fight him all at the same time. It would be very cool to see their duel.

Absolutely, I think it would have been more "dialectic" than "physical".

Good point also about the Alderaan destruction taking her into the dark side... it would be interesting to see if she was able to stay apart from that fact, after all it was Tarkin who did it and supposedly he got what he deserved when the DS blew! Probably if she had been Jedi trained at that particular time, some burst of anger would have take her straight into Palps... don´t know

I don´t know why but people tend to forget that Luke didn´t do anything to convert Vader apart from crying "please please" ultimately it was Anakin who defeated Vader!

What are you talking about? Pretty much every word Luke said to Vader in RotJ was an attempt to covert him. What about (paraphrased) lines like:

"I feel the good inside you."

"[Anakin] is your true name, you've only forgotten."

"You couldn't destroy me before, and you won't turn me over to your Emperor now."

"I am a jedi... Like my father before me."

From the time Luke turned himself in and even all through the duel, he was constantly reminding Anakin/Vader who he was. He never called him Vader, he kept stressing the fact that he was a jedi, and he was Anakin Skywalker. Yes, of course it was Anakin who redeemed himself in the end, but would he have had the strength to do so if his son hadn't risked his life to remind him of who he really was?

As for Leia, at the time of the OT, I think that she had too much hatred for Vader to do what Luke did. Vader interrogated her, tortured the man she loved, and represented everything she hated and fought against all her life. If she defeated Vader like Luke did, she probably would have killed him and fallen to the dark side herself.

I hate to mention EU, but I only bring it up to mock it wink

Leia used the force in Crystal Star (?) to turn off the lights in her bedroom before sleeping. That's a sure sign one is lazy and looking for the "quicker, easier" path wink

I don't think she would have done very well. She had more interest in politics and I think she was too headstrong.
