How does Han meet Chewbacca?

Now after seeing ROTS and knowing Han didnt have a role in the movie, how does Chewbacca go from Kasshyk to end up in Mos Eisley with Han in ANH?
Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

I can remember reading a comic strip where they meet on Kashyyyk. But i may be wrong

From what I read in the EU, Han was in the empire but free'd chewie and left to become a smuggler.

Wow, interesting. Now I won't sleep until I find the truth to this.
But that whole "Empire capturing Chewie and then Han as an Imperial freeing him and becoming a smuggler with Chew at his side as his best friend theory" is fine by me.

I've always thought that when the empire took over they made slaves of the wookies. Just something I read many many moons ago somewhere in the EU.

I believe that when the Empire was established, the wookies became slaves to them. Chewbacca was being beaten for some reason when Han stepped in was able to free chewie. Chewie then vowed a life debt to Han. Han also left the imperial navy at this time.

In ROTS, Kashyyk is the site of a battle between the Wookies and clones versus the Sepratists. I'd say that Kashyyk was one of the first planets that the Empire took over after Order 66 and Palptine changed the Republic to an Empire. After all, they're aready on it, and since the battle droids are shutting down, why not attack the wookies, inslave them, and take their planet?
Besides, they helped Yoda and th Jedi. I doubt Palpitine woul be too happy about that.
And I've heard that Han was a part of the Empire but slowly grew to hate it. He once saw a wookie being whipped by an Imperial and couldn't take it anymore, so he attacked, saved the wookie, and ran away from the Empire. The wookie happened to be Chewbacca. Chewbacca decided to make a life debt to Han, but Han just wanted him to go away. He eventually accepted the wookie and they became friends.

Yes, I've heard the same also, but I wasnt sure if that was true or not.. I might have to go ask the EU buffs, because I'm not knowledgable with the EU.

I'm not EU expert, but here's something taken from A Guide to the Star Wars Universe (Third Edition).
Han grew up in the Corellian star system aboard Garris Shirke's Trader's Luck, where he was befriended by the Wokkie known as Dewlanna. Han enrolled in the Imperial Academy, graduated with honors, became a lieutenant, and was on his way to a brilliant career when his conscience got in the way. He was disallusioned with the Empire's treatment of nonhumans, and when he witnessed an Imperial officer use a force whip on a Wookie, Han decided to rescue the Wookie before he could be hurt or before he killed the officer. This earned Han an honorable discarhge, a ban from piloting ships on Courscant, and the lifelong gratitude of the Wookie. After being discharged, Solo wandered the galaxy. He took on a number of unsavory jobs, and Chewbacca remained at his side, even though Han tried repeatedly to get him to leave. A Wookie's life debt is not something taken lightly, and Chewbacca stayed until Han finally accepted his presence. They became martners and then fast friends.
Not sure how reliable the source is though.

Interetsingly enough, this event has yet to be depicted in the EU- it's just been backstory. The closest is the flashback in the Chewbacca comic where Han meets Chewie aboard a slave ship.
The "rescue" part presumably happens shortly after that.

Im not sure my memory is blurry on this so im not sure. But years ago I read somewere that Han Solo's parents abandoned him and the wookies on kasyyyk raised him including chewbacca
