vader would of easily destroyed luke, he never wanted to harm him in any way, he wanted to turn him to the darkside, in that case luke won by the fact vader did not want to harm him. Agree or Disagree?

You're right. Vader was playing until Luke used the darkside. Then he beat him. Vader wasn't playing then.

Vader could have beaten Luke easily up until the "If you will not turn to the darkside, then perhaps she will!"

I definitely think Vader was holding back. And that had there been no emotions, he could have whooped Luke in seconds.
In an odd sort of way, I think Luke was using the Dark Side and Vader not.

Well, he attempted to strike down the unarmed emperor.
Then he attacked Vader out of rage when he brougnt up Leia.
And the rage (darkside) fueled him.
No specific powers, but his attacks were based off of the darkside. Short of like when Obi-Wan killed Maul.

Of course, this begs the question 'did Luke want to harm Vader, whom he still believed could be saved'? I mean, it wasn't until Luke snaps that we see a real fight (even if it was exceedingly short).

They were both holding back initially, but when Luke uses his aggressive feelings, Vader can't defend himself. I believe Luke was more powerful than Vader by this time.

Vader was holding back. Look at ESB, and in ROTJ at their meeting before Vader sent Luke to the Emperor, when he summond the stormtroopers to take Luke away, what was Vader thinking? Even when they were fighting Luke says "I feel the good in you", "The conflict", although Vader denied this Luke was right Vader had no intention of Killing Luke, even when he says "you are unwise to lower your defenses" he knows Luke is going to block the attack. Vader wanted Luke for other purposes.

Vader was totally playing with Luke, he fell down and just let Luke slash away until he eventually cut his hand off. He was trying to turn Luke to the darkside and was willing to die to do it.

I think Vader was holding back in the ROTJ duel with Luke. I believe he did not want to kill Luke. Whether he still wanted him to turn to the darkside or stay good I do not know. It is possible that Vader/Anakin started to 2nd guess himself after he talked with Luke on Endor.
I always found funny was after the duel and Emperor Palpatine was killed by Vader/Anakin, Luke is trying to carry/drag Vader to the shuttle in the hangar bay. Luke must of had great strength to accomplish that. Why did no one in the Death Star try to help Vader or at least give Luke a hand. I understand that they are evacuating, but isn't Darth Vader important to the Empire and worth saving. I guess the fleeing Imperials said well someone (Luke) is taking care of it and does not need our help.

Heh, I would guess everyone is too scared for their lives and plus not many like Vader in the first place.
Anyway, I don't like to think Vader was holding back any. During pretty much the whole duel Luke is slightly giving in to his emotions, like during the scene where kicks Vader off the stairs. Just by Luke's face it's clear he's using his anger more. I think Vader has been torn with what to do with himself but when the duel comes he tries his best to put all that behind him and either get Luke to the Dark Side or kill him if he won't be converted. Luke, however keeps on pounding that good is still in Vader (greatly irritating him) during the duel, and notice each time he says that Vader attacks. (1st time is the "Lower your defenses" line, 2nd time he throws his lightsaber.) And then at the end Luke simply rushes with amazing force at Vader and Vader is reatreating, fearing for his life.

Notice Vader didn't get aggressive until Luke started to represent a threat. After Luke scored a hit on Vader's shoulder, Vader ended the duel within seconds.
Edit: Oops, I thought we were talking about Empire's duel.
The Jedi duel, I think Vader was taking it slow. He hoped to turn Luke then together they could attack and kill the Emperor. Vader underestimated just how powerful Luke would become when he flirted with the darkside and was genuinely overwhelmed by the savagery of Luke's attack.

Quick question:
Why does Luke refuse to fight the Emperor after he cuts Vader's arm off - he just throws his lightsaber away! Is any form of fighting considered turning to the darkside or does Luke just not know that the Emperor is capable of defending himself? Also, when Luke beats Vader, it appears that all of a sudden Vader just lays down on purpose and allows Luke to chop away at his arm. No way this is on purpose is it?

Luke tosses his saber because he's completely renouncing the fear, hatred and aggression that so easily joins him in a fight. He doesn't even want to be tempted by the power of his weapon to kill either Vader or the Emperor. (Plus, like the ROTJ audience, he has no clue of the Emperor's true power.)
Vader stumbled while trying to angle for a better position. Probably stepped on his cape; this is the first time in a LONG that he's had to seriously backpedal in a fight.

Agreed, he could have redirected Palps lighting right back at him like Mace did. Can you imagine the Emperor aging even more. But then there would be no need for Vader to throw him down the shaft. It played out perfectly, Vader saving Luke by destroying the Emporer and once again becoming Anakin Skywalker.
