The idea of Luke being a wise Jedi Master in the EU seems a bit lame to me. So what if instead of him getting off the Death Star, he dies from the Emperor's lightning shortly after Vader/Anakin tosses him overboard. It'd be a bit of a tragic end, but it seems a bit more appropriate. Jedi were wiped out, 2 survivors train young hero to thwart the Sith. Hero confronts the Sith, and defeats them at the cost of his own life. Sure it'd be the end of the Jedi, but it'd also be the end of the Sith...and balance is restored to the Force.

And if they really wanted to keep the Jedi around for the EU, then maybe have Leia's children rebuild the Jedi Order.

If Luke had died, the Jedi would have died with him. Leia, or Leia's children, would not have been able to rebuiled because they would have no one to teach them the Ways of the Jedi.

I'm just going to pretend I didn't see this.

But I agree with [b]jedimasterbac[/i]: Sure he had to learn a lot on his own, but Luke at least had some training to start off with! The Solo kids, by the time they were old enough to research anything, probably wouldn't even be able to find any info on the Jedi.

Another Luke-fan in shock. shock

Besides the fact that if Luke died in ROTJ I wouldn't be able to see it without going into a state of depression, I don't really think it would have served the story or made it better. The whole point kind of is that you can see the future with lots of jedis again and that Luke succeeds where Anakin failed. Plus, would no jedis and no siths really bring balance to the force? Is balance a state of no using the force for bad or good?

Bottom line: Luke can't die in ROTJ!!! cry

Actually I would of prefered if he died and Vader lived. After all Anakin is the chosen one. I think vader lived and went to the rebellion. Peace was restored and the Jedi Order was rebuilt that way. Also Obi Wan and Yoda helped. Luke was just whiny. He and Leia was just a accident.

Well the Jedi "discovered" the Force many millenia before the PT and KOTOR, so if Jacen and Jaina had that Force potential, they could probably do the same. Anyways, when Luke went aboard the Death Star, he was pretty much planning on not coming back, hence his "You have that power too. In time you'll learn to use it as I have" line. So basically, Luke knew that Leia could carry on his legacy even if he died on board the Death Star.

You're foretting that you can't change books and (I'm going into EU here) if Luke Had died there would be no EU literature for after Episode VI and the saga would seem pointless cause the good guy died

Seriously, I would have liked to see Vader live and repair the damage he did to the Galaxy. That would have truly completed the circle...IMO.

Excellent point, I just wanted an excuse for 3 more StarWars movies with Vader in them shock
