I saw the movie "Gremlins" before I saw any of the SW films and they scared the crap out of me...I thought Yoda was a Gremlin or a demon for some reason. Someone gave me a toy of him and I had bad dreams about it all the time so I finally threw the thing away.

As I have posted before..
Watching Sesame Street EVERYDAY when I was
5 yrs old, I thought Yoda was some distant
cousin of Grover.
They sound EXACTLY the same,(except of course Yoda's
slightly deranged laugh) and were both
muppets.
C3PO and R2-D2 showing up on Sesame
Street every once in a while didn't help
either.. I thought they were visiting or
something...
Funny how I never thought the same about
Fozzie and Bert or Ernie and Kermit..

I remember thinking that after the destruction of the Death Star in Episode IV that the Empire was done. They had been all killed. Imagine my shock when seeing Episode V and they were still there, and just as (if not more) powerful.
I also thought that the stronger you were in the force the brighter and bigger your light'saver' would be. Because DV's was so much stronger looking than Ben's (end of Ep. IV).
I just
NEVER
understood why they didn't fly
AT
the hole in the trench. It never made sense that the torpedo would go straight and then just kind of
fall
into the hole. They should have flown
up
and then come straight
down
at the exaughst port.
Then I thought maybe the hole was like a vaccuum and sucked the bomb in. But that didn't make much sense either because if I was going to design a weapon I certainly wouldn't make a 'sucking' hole that lead to my power supply.
I couldn't understand why Luke would come back from being in the freezing cold of Hoth and then go swimming. (the bacta healing tank) Just didn't make sense to me.
I'm sure I've got more, but this is getting pretty long.

From what I've tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire.

To say that for disaster ice, is also great and would suffice."

Well... I'v done it. My very first post. long time on-looker but never posted untill now, just way to funny. And to find out I'm not the only one with misconceptions.
1.)"I remember thinking that Oola - the dancer at Jabba's palace - fell into the hole in the floor, and then was turned into a frog. Then Jabba ate her."
2.)In ESB when the transports are evacuating and the ion cannon shoots at the star destroyer, The lady says "Ion control...fire!" but i thought she said "I'm in control fire" made me kinda mad that she took control with out asking.
3.) the 2nd death star was modled after darth vaders helmet.
4.) I used to call star destoyers "The big cheese" (dont ask me why!.)

You guys are cracking me up.
The scene in ANH when Tarkin tells us that the Emperor has permenantly dissolved the senate....for some reason, I took "dissolved" literally and had this image of the Emperor melting council members.
Hey, the Emperor is an evil dude, he would do it. He might have! How do you know that wasn't what he meant?? (maybe that scene will be in Ep III? hahahaha)

WAAAAAAY before I saw the movie, when I looked at the Star Wars movie poster (the one with open shirt, macho Luke and Disco-Space-Queen Leia) I thought that John Travolta was in it!
COULD YOU JUST WATCH THE HAIR??!?!!?
You know, I spend alot of time on it, and he hits it!
He hits my hair!

The only thing I can remember is form ANH in the scene where Tarkin and other officers are talking at the round table on the Death Star and Vader uses the force to choke someone(I don't remember his name). I always thought that when Vader released him and his head fell towards the table that the round light underneath his mouth was something that he spit up because he was being choked.
BTW, this has to be one of the best threads I've ever read. Can't stop laughing.

I use to call them lifesavers too, guess thats a common one.
If any of you have the OT Box set, not the special edition that has those behind the scenes in the beginning you'll know what I'm talking about.
Well when I was 7-9 I always used to fast forward through them because I didn't want to believe that Star Wars was all fake

I use to think the Death Star II, was actually the original one, and the unfinished portions were what exploded from the ANH attack.
In ANH, when Obi Wan is messing with the power, and he uses the force to make a noise to distact the stormtroopers, well, I use to think that noise was suppose to be a stormtrooper farting, and this is what I use to think the stormtroopers said:
<NOISE>
trooper1: What was that?
trooper2: It's nothing, I've got gas.
It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure I thought they said something along those lines.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
Oh god, where do I begin...
1. In ANH when Luke fires the torpedoes and then they cut to that Imperial operator in the black uniform pushing a button "stand by, stand by"... then the Death Star blows up. I thought that the Imperial dude pushed the button to self destruct the Death Star.
2. I saw the trilogy out of order- 1. ANH 2. ROTJ 3. ESB ...so when I saw ROTJ I couldn't understand how the hell Han got frozen and Luke all of the sudden could fight so well and had wires in his hand. I guess that's why ESB is my favorite because I was finally able to piece together the story. LOL
3. Thought to myself..."damn, does this Wedge guy ever die?"
I'm sure I'll think of more...

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
Oh my gosh, I've just read this entire thread and I have to tell everyone... I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard! I mean, occasionally I'll find something that'll make me chuckle, but this thread... oooh, it takes the cake. Truth is stranger than fiction, eh?
Here are some, and I'm sure I'll think of more later:
*It took me until about 2 years ago to figure out that Tatooine wasn't really called Tatoonie, which I always thought was a stupid name for a planet
*I forgot that Owen and Beru were burned to death. I watched it after not seeing it for a couple years and I was like, "Oh my gosh! They're deep fried!"
*I got Owen and Beru confused with Em and Henry from the Wizard of Oz.
*OB1 Kenobi.... took me forever to figure out that wasn't how it was spelled.
*I refused to accept that Boba Fett had died in ROTJ (heheee... ironic)
*I thought Boba Fett would die if you took his mask off because he was allergic to oxygen.
*After seeing the SNL Star Wars Audition skit, I was like 11, and I was so confused. I constantly got Kevin Spacey and Christopher Walken confused because Kevin's impression was so good, and then I thought one or both of them was almost Han Solo (haha, Kevin was 18 in 1977
)... I was seriously confused. Now that I'm a Kevin Spacey fan, I know better
*My brother and I were both seriously scared of Yoda. He is all demented (that's the word I always use, too!) and then he's all serious. And then I saw Psycho so I thought maybe Yoda had multiple personalities. And my brother is 18 and he's still scared of Yoda saying, "you will be... you will be."
probably more that I'll remember later....
