Dictionary.com. Just type in a word and it gives you the def and sometimes how to use it.

Thesaurus. Need a better word or just can't figure out the word you've been thinking of? This site is awesome!

Feel free to add your own links. I'll add more of mine as I find them.

I think the Completely Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia here at TF.n is invaluable. I don't own many of the resource books, so I do a lot of my research for fics there. happy

In addition to what Liz and princess-sari said, these might also come in handy:

Bartlett's book of quotations. Good for fic stuff if you have a quote going throuhg your head and you're not sure if it's a "real" quote, and also good for RL stuff.

Links page. Everything linked to on this page is very helpful. I'm not going to copy all the adresses over.

The Elements of Style. This cannot be described. Let's just say that I used it to "study" for my SAT II: Writing test and it helped.

How to write marginally readable fan fiction. what the links says.

Definitely link to the Mary Sue article in Liz's last recommendation. It's cool.

For those who write non-fanfic as well as fanfic (sf/f), try Critters Workshop, a great place to get help wiht your writing and honest feedback from other writers (she says as she's writing this instead of the critique she owes for this week...) It also has good articles on how to critique, and how to be diplomatic in critiques.

Unlocking and upping.

Take some time and check these links out, folks. Liz wasn't kidding when she said these sites are invaluable. The Mary Sue link in particular is a good kick in the pants.

I have a few of my own to add soon.

These are all name-related happy

Star Wars Random Name Generator - What it says on the tin. It works - it's not one of those 'insert last 2 letters of your mum's maiden name' ones. It has a database of *checks* over 2 million possible names. At the very least it gives you ideas.

20,000 Names - the best site for those of you who want OC names with meaning to them. 20 000 names from around the world, with explanations.

Behind the Name - Another names site, with explanations. Contains a name generator.

Title Generator - A title generator, though it gets a little predictable after a while.

The Fantasy Name Generator <---I use this all the time. The custom generator function takes a few minutes to learn, but it's great if you have a general "sound" that you want a name to have, but can't quite come up with a letter combination that works for you. It now has Japanese and Hawaiian names as part of it's "regular" generator. grin

Edit: There's always this crazy site, too: starwars.com whistling

All the links above are great, I use them all the time. I also use Star Wars Map to gauge distances between planets and to keep all of the systems and planet names correct. grin

The Ultamite Guide to the Star Wars Universe

I've only used the Planets and Moons section so far, but it was very helpful.....once I got past the urge to correct the spelling of the title, LOL.

I just found this site. Seems like it would serve as a good aide to writing fics.

Star Wars-Journal of a Whill

Edit: If you scroll to the latter third of the page, there are many links to other sites. They are extremely helpful.
