PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST BEFORE DOING ANYTHING WITH THIS

Well. Here is my final attempt at finishing The Awakening.

http://www.jophis.com/toroto/

in this folder are 5 subfolders:
3d-stuff
bountyhunter
samples
sith-training
torwindie

In each of the folders are the raw clips that need to be rotoscoped, except for the 3d-stuff and samples folder.

In the samples folder are the 3 sabers used, with character and what you should try to get their saber color to look like.

Also in the Samples folder is what some of the Ywing footage we have looks like.

In the 3d-stuff folder, is the raw clips of what we need done for the ywing, 2 cockpit shots, and 2 landing shots.

ALL ROTOSCOPING AND 3D RENDERING NEEDS TO BE 720x480 RESOLUTION FOR DVD QUALITY RENDER.

ALSO ALL RENDERED LIGHTSABER CLIPS NEED TO BE LABELED CORRECTLY, EXAMPLE SITH-TRAINING-4.MOV, AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS RENDER IT HIGH QUALITY WIHT A BLACK BACKGROUND. UNLESS YOU WANT TO SHOW A SAMPLE BEFORE DOING A HIGH RENDER.

RENDERS CAN BE IN ANY CODEC, JUST OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY.

Here is what to do, if you want to help, pic a clip. Rotoscope it or do your best 3d attempt at it. Either e-mail jophis@jophis.com or AIM tharealjophis a link to the finished file, OR if you need somewhere to upload it to, please let me know I will provide temporary FTP space for the files to upload.

Here is what you receive in turn.

FOR 1 COMPLETE CLIP:
- A credit in the film as either Rotoscoper or 3d Artist.

FOR 3 OR MORE COMPLETED CLIPS:
- A credit in the film as either Rotoscoper or 3d Artist.
- A free copy of the DVD when finished, mailed to you free of charge.

FOR 5 OR MORE COMPLETED CLIPS:
- A credit in the film as either Rotoscoper or 3d Artist.
- A free copy of the DVD when finished, mailed to you free of charge.
- A special thanks listed in the credits.
- A 500MB subdomain account on jophis.com if wanted.

SO..........
My friends the rest is up to you.

If you have any questions, please email me at jophis@jophis.com or instant message me on AIM at ThaRealJophis

What if our clips are better?

Actually, nevermind.. I looked at one of the landing clips, I doubt I could make a landing work in that shot if I tried, short of retiming the entire sequence and making several adjustments to the motion.

Suggestion for the rotoscoping aspects of the project: rather than have people render out the projects and upload them to you, why not have them just do the animation (keyframing) in After Effects and send you the file? Then you can render 'em all for consistency and save yourself the discrepancies.

EDIT: By the way - I think opening up the floor with an open community project is a GREAT idea. While a lot of people are busy and will bail on you, giving people "practice footage" that's actually useful gives anyone on the board with a few minutes a chance to help out.

If there was enough interest, an open-community fanfilm making sticky could be a really interesting addition to the forum.

Ya, I agree, only problem with the sending the AE file is that they have to have the same version as me, but we can try that too if wanted.

*cough* it would therefore be useful if you posted your version of After Effects.

LOL thanks spiff, I am only slightly slower than normal this morning......

My After Effects version is 1.3

Just kidding

it's 6.0

EDIT:
Also as to the question above, what if our clips are better.

If you submit a finished clip, and I don't end up using it, the rules above per finished clips still apply... I am not going to let your work go unnoticed.

AND here is something that might be useful, via Dr Modean.... from a while back on this project

Ok, here are the RGB color balances I am using for the lightsabers. I found that these look best on the light to dark to light background in the final battle sequence.

Red Saber-
Red Midtones: 100%
Red Highlights: 60%
Red Shadows: 10%
---------------------------------------
Blue Saber-
Blue Midtones: 100%
Blue Highlights: 55%
Blue Shadows: 10%
---------------------------------------
Green Saber-
Green Midtones: 100%
Green Highlights: 60%
Green Shadows: 10%
---------------------------------------
Edit: Make sure the "Perserve Luminosity" is checked.

I know most rotoers stay away from the shadows feature, but they really do look better with a little shadow.

---------------------------------------------------------

OK, this is from Jophis again, here is a Forum that you can go sign up at to stay up to date with what is done etc etc

By pic a clip you mean take a screenshot of one of the clips, roto, and send you the file (.jpg or whatever) for your review, correct?

Or am I getting this wrong?

I'm interested. I'll download some, and tell you which ones I'd like to do. I can export at 100 spatial quality Sor3, which with just sabers on black shows NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever. I used it for Reborn, where I was asked to do a last minute clip.

Edit: I'll take the three Sith Training ones (1-3). They should be ready within a week, depending on how other things go.
