Hey all - just letting you know that there is now a mirror for The Sound Bunker and other Star Wars media items. I wanted to do my part in the organization and hosting of these files because for some time I have admired the amount of traffic that the people who have hosted this in the past have put up with. Please add this to your list of referrals so we can save their bandwidth!
PLEASE NOTE: The account name was created for reference purposes only - the account is not controlled or provided by TFN FanFilms and they are not responsible for the files hosted there. Many thanks to the FanFilms staff for putting up with my goof.
ALSO: If you have any Star Wars sound effects and such you want to add to the archive drop me a PM and we can talk about it.
Enjoy!

Either way thanks for the offer Shadow - I'll keep it in mind. Could come in handy later if space becomes "crowded".

Just out of curiosity; has anyone taken the time to begin labeling the various sounds in the Republic Commando folders?
Obviously I dont expect that someone labeled 1000+ sounds, but has anyone begun to label them?
The sounds are incredible quality, and theres a ton of great stuff; but the access to them is limited b/c of that the fact they are genercially labeled.
Hmmm...that give me an idea.
Lets says there were enough people interested in organizing these sounds. I motion that we distribute sound numbers to people that were interested, (i.e Shadow 1-100, DV 101-201, mik 302-402, gallion 403-503 etc Just picking random names here)
I think it would be incredibly useful to everyone here at the boards. Obviusly not every sound is going to have a unique name, but even seperating them into folders (blasters, takeoffs, ambience) would make them 100% more useable.
Anyone interested? If it comes down to it, I'll do it myself, but I'm not so keen about having to sift through 1200 sounds by hand.

Gallion - I don't have the game, but if someone uploaded and sent me a zip file of 100 sounds, I'd be happy to go through and name them.

Alright awesome, I'm glad a couple people are interested!
The sound files I'm referring to are provided in the link that DV posted to start out this topic.
Here's one that takes you right to the page.
http://hosted.filefront.com/1341639
Specifically, look for: GEO_Sound.zip and GEN_Sound.zip
Now there are quite a few sounds there, so maybe to start out we'll work in groups of 100 sounds per person.
I agree no one should have more than 100 sounds in a given time, that would just drive you crazy.
Important points
1. Alot of the sounds are hard to interpret exactly whats going on, so I think the best thing to do is to organize them into a hierarchy, so at least we have a group of "gravel" sounds that are not individually named.
2. We'll have to establish this hierarchy before we start, that way we can all colaborate at the end. It is imperative that we all start with the same folder names and organization.
3. Remember if your going to name each sound, make sure to make it specific enough. Or else when we collaborate we'll have 50 sounds called laser.wav...
4. When organizing the categories we have to find a happy median for how specific we want to get. I say for all sounds relating to taking off, we just have one folder called Take Offs...no need to get more specific than that. Same for ambient sounds...we just need one folder for all ambient noise.
5. Obviiusly some sounds are just going to be too hard to categorize 100%. If you open a sound, and you can't figure out what it is; should we take our best guess? or should we put it into an "Im not sure" folder?
Should we start a new thread in the hopes of getting some more people to sign up?
I figure we can start organizing the hierarchy now, others who join can just get caught up to speed.
So for the next day or 2 start listening to random sounds, and lets get a feel for all the folders (categories)we'll need.
Anyone else want to add anything they think is important to note before we begin?

Excellent suggestion gallion! Very good idea indeed.
I still have at least 8 more .zip files to upload from the game - since people are serious about this I'll focus on finishing those off before I move on to other files.
As for discussion, I say let's just keep it all here so there's no confusion between topics. That way people can get the latest updates on what's where and we can announce changes as they are made.
Just my two cents.
EDIT: FYI - my plans for future sounds include everything from the new Episode 3 game to the original Jedi Knight. So as long as people are interested I plan to keep updating the place.

I say we attack this project in waves. For now, lets get the all the sounds organized into a 1 level hierachry. One folder for every main kind of sound. Maybe a couple months down the road we can start to further categorize them.
Heres my first crack at the hierarchy. I will elaborate on those that need it.
Fly Bys
Take Offs
Engine Loops - Just a looping "ambient" engine noise
Weapon Fire - any kind, big, small, blaster or xwing cannon that is a single weapon fire.
Beeps- Any kind of computer beep, boop, or button sound.
Ambient - Any kind of ambient sound (outside, inside, ambient battle sounds)
Mechanical - any kind of gears, hydraulics, elevators, or robot joints that would be machine made.
Gravel - just because I've heard an abundance of generic gravel or dirt sounds (like something being dragged on gravel)
Explosions
Cave Sounds - Any kind of water drips, or long echoing sounds that are synonimous with being in a cave.
Creatures - Any organic living sound that is not human. Whether it be a growl, howl, or call.
Doors - Anything that sounds like a door opening, lock unlocking, hatch opening, etc.
Misc/Other - (I know I hate to have an "Other" category) But there are just too many sounds that don't sound like any one thing. Any woosh, echo, or sound that could be used for an infinite amount of things. (try to limit the use of this this category)
For those who have downloaded the files, heres some examples of sounds that would be tough to categorize: sn76.wav, sn74.wav, sn56.wav, sn28.wav
I'm sure I'm missing a couple categories. Feel free to add, edit, or suggest any other categories you want.
