Congratulations on your trailer. It certainly looks above average, especially the CG cliffside setting and some of the other visuals.

The action sequences look less impressive (except, of course, for the tree flip and lighting levitation, etc) but it seems that you're going for a more original plot, which should make up for it.

As for the camo...just because, technically, something COULD be seen in the Star Wars galaxy doesn't mean it will be good fare for a fan film. Many fanfilmmakers fail to realize this. In creating a consistant and believably Star Wars-like "look" for your film, it is best to avoid things like the camo and the white building in the trailer, even if they COULD exist.

But again, good job on the trailer. You seem to have put in a lot of effort, and I'll be looking forward to the final film.

Well, my opinion does differ a little on that point. I think that it is more important that an item fits into the script and story, than to perceptions of it being not SW flashy enough. Obviously if something is outside the SW continuity, then that is another issue.

The white building actually fits perfectly into the script, and I couldn't have chosen a better location even if I had blue screened that whole scene. I will say, though, that there are a few minor effects going around the white building to spruse up the landscape.

As for the cammo... granted with a huge budget I might have made some minor changes. Generally the costumes still would have been *very* similar to what they came out to be. Perhaps with a bit more grunge though.

Thanks for the input! ;-) It's good to hear both sides.

I don't mind the building... I thought the hallway battles were the best part of the European FanFilm Dark Side... although granted, any film where a man is willing to attach an explosive squib to his crotch gets props from me. grin

My only issue with buildings is an interesting point that I read once in a article on why Star Wars is so effective(and if anyone knows where I read this, I'd greatly appreciate them saying... I can't remember for the life of me).

The author noted that at no point in any SW film is there ever a door on hinges... at least, the normal kind of swinging door with a doorknob.

And he's right, and his reasoning was that something so common has a tendency to ground the viewer in reality by presenting him with something familiar, and this disrupts one's suspension of disbelief.

I'm not saying that it's all-important or anything, but it's one of many little elements that you have to be aware of, espescially for a fan-filmmaker working around real buildings. A silly little common thing, but an important one nonetheless. It's always either sliding doors or no door at all, but NEVER a door on hinges...

Yeah, a door without hinges was what we wanted to do originally, but we could get permission to remove the door. It's just one of the problems with having no budget to do the movie.

As far as the actual building choice. I have to agree with Scott. I would be hard pressed to think of a better place to have that scene, given the plot behind it. It really does fit, you'll see.

Just a quick update for folks: Reciprocity is coming along great, and we are looking on track for a July release of the film. Three days before release, there will be a rush of new promotional material, including a smaller preview trailer focusing on a single character, not seen that often in the first.

I'd love to see the trailer, but at 629 bytes/second, it just ain't worth it. I'm on a T1, to boot.
Any word on when the download server is coming back to life?

It looks pretty good. The effects definitely look above average. There's just somethings with the dialogue and the story that confuse me.

The first piece of dialogue we hear...

"What was it with those guards back there? We could've killed them and there'd be no witnesses."
-"I would hardly call them witnesses."

This doesn't make any sense. Kind of confused me right off the bat, until...

"The Jedi is his own worst enemy, your greatest confilt comes from within. Your masters teach you, scold you, command you to follow reason and not your emotions. If you can't feel for something, then how can you understand what it means to protect it?"

The line was performed well, but again, makes no sense to me. The Jedi ARE taught to feel emotion, hell that's one of the most integral parts of the entire order. "Feel, don't think, use your instincts." "You must feel the Force around you." Or maybe this line just proves that the character knows nothing about the Jedi?

I'll be interested to see the story in it's entirity when the short is completed.

Reciprocity is first on to to-see fan film list. I think the idea is quite interesting, good premise. It is just like what lucas likes to do, take things from the past and place them in the future (i.e. the dogfights from World War II and the x-wing-TIE fighter fights, or the roman coleseum and the coloseum fight on Geonosis). This takes the idea of the spanish inquisition and spins on it. The effects look like the best since Duality and the little clips of lightsaber fight made my eyes widen.

2nd on my too see list is Sins of the Jedi, I really like what I have seen in the trailer and their production values are awsome. They have created some awsome special effects and I love the makup job on the alien character. I also love how many storm troopers they have, making this more than just a duel. Thank God for the 501st!

A close 3rd is Tydirium, I reall REALLY want to see what these guys did. Their CGI is the best of what I have seen yet. They must be close to completing their film because it has be in production of A LONG TIME. I also think that the non-jedi oriented material presented in this film might make for a new genre of Fan Films.

4th comes A Deception of the Force. I like the premise of following 5 different characters around. Also, this film actually seems to have CHARACTERS. In adition to the static jedi/sith they threw in a 'sith witch'. Also they have a down on his luck 'scoundrel' and a bounty hunter that is *surprise surprise* NOT the best in the world. This adds some believability to their tale. But while their trailers are good, we have yet to see if they will capitalise on the basic idea they have created.

5th comes A Question of Faith II, my personal opinion is that the first is the best Fan Film ever made. I love everything that I have seen of the film, but the reason this comes in kinda low on the list is the lack of a trailer. I am just not too jazzed about a movie that I haven't seen a single piece of. However, If they do anything like they did with the first one, I have a feeling I we will be floored by their performance.

6th on my to see list is Storm Ahead. The CGI blows my mind but I am worried about how good they can make the film with only limited green screen capability. No, I have not seen Dark Skies so I am not totally convinced about their ability to pull it off. But I love what I have seen in the trailer, looks like graphics right out of a computer game cut scene.

EDIT: Some grammer, some new information and added 'A Deception of the Force', how could I forget THAT film!

Ok...

So is July still looking good for a release date?

I actually downloaded this trailor a while back but never got around to commenting on the thread.

I am really looking foward to what you guys have in store, becuase it looks like the plot is real insteresting, not to mention some of your effects are great.

As for the trailor, some of the pacing was a bit off, I think you could have had a more impactful trailor in about 30-45 less seconds. Some of the clips were a little too long... for instance, when it showed the jedi crouching on the ground with his lightsabre in his hand, the camera stayed on him for too long, I wanted to get to the next clip.

But aside from the trailor, I really want to see where all these clips fit into the movie.

Hope all goes well and you finish the movie by July.

But WhisperingDeath... I don't see why you needed to give your top whatever list HERE....
