I would never laugh at another person's pain...

...well, not unless I knew they had it coming... or it was really, really funny.

I'm glad that everyone seems to be enjoying the thread thus far. A couple of comments...

The line about "get such and such from the Count" obviously isn't part of the code, just something that Jango programmed the book to tell Boba. There are a few lines like that, including a long description of Jabba's Palace that Boba gets the book to tell him in #4.

Book 4 also specifically confirms that everything in the book is in Jango's own words, so we can assume that, with the Mandalorian Warriors basically extinct at this point, Jango simply reworked Jaster's code to apply to Bounty Hunting.

Book 4 also features Durge rather heavily. If I'm not mistaken the continuity it establishes for Durge is in direct contradiction to other sources. Since I'm not real up on my Durge knowledge, I'm not 100% positive that's the case, however. All that I do know is that the book directly states that Durge was up and about when Jango died, and that he knew of (and possibly directly knew) Jango. It also states that Jango had warned Boba about Durge and, most surprisingly, that Durge was angry that he wasn't chosen to be the clone template (?!... can you clone a multitentacled blob?).

I was under the, admittedly possibly mistaken, impression that Durge didn't wake up until after Jango died. I certainly didn't think he was up and about around the time of TPM!

Does anything out there contradict this? It certainly didn't sound right to me...

Anyway, as a result, when I post the codex stuff from #4 I'll also be posting all of the Durge related stuff as well.

EDIT: FoM, I've played through KOTOR three times for fun (twice by myself and once with my girlfriend) and once for the Mandalorian references, which I needed for a few different reasons. If there is a site where I could have gotten that info, I wish somebody would have directed me there, 'cause I couldn't find it wink .

The Boba Fett young adult books I bought in a bundle off of ebay for probably a wee bit more then I should have, but I felt I needed the codex info for a tabletop RPG game I'm running with a Mandalorian player character. I've been typing up all the codex stuff anyway, so I figured I might as well include it here happy .

Book #4 -

"'Space is emptiness,' Jango had told his son. 'And emptiness is useless, until it is filled with work, or energy, or people, or starships. A good bounty hunter may seem invisible at times. But he knows how to use the space around him. And if he is using that space, it is not empty." #4, p1

"To prepare Boba in case the worst ever happened, Jango had left him a book. In this book were screens of information, advice, and encouragement. All were written in his father's own words. Sometimes the book showed his father's own image, too." #4, p3

"'Planets are like people,' Boba's father always used to say. 'They all have individual personalities.'" #4, p6

"Durge! His father had warned Boba about him. A two-thousand-year-old bounty hunter, Durge hated the Mandalorians more then anything else in the galaxy. A hundred years before Boba was born, Durge had attempted to capture the Mandalorians' leader. Instead, he himself was captured and tortured. But Durge escaped. He went into hibernation to recover from his wounds. When he emerged fully healed, he vowed revenge upon all Mandalorians. Yet it was too late for revenge. By then, there were few Mandalorians left in the galaxy. They had been exterminated in the course of countless battles, some with the Jedi. Still, part of Jango Fett remained alive in the clone army generated from his DNA. Durge had vowed to eliminate all of Jango's clones... and do Count Dooku's bidding." #4, p18-19

"Fear is your friend, if it is your enemy's fear, his father used to say." #4, p29

"Boba looked at the emaciated figures staring down at him. 'My father always said an army travels on its stomach. Doesn't look like this one's going anywhere.'" #4, p35

"'Now I remember,' said Boba, pretending this was all new to him. He felt a chill, despite the hold's hot, musty air. 'He wanted to be the source of the clone army." Gab'borah looked at Boba with respect. 'That is the rumor,' he said. 'How is it you come to know this?' Boba hesitated. Then he said, 'Jango Fett told me.' Gab'borah's eyes grew keen. 'Then you know that Durge rejoiced when Jango Fett was killed. His only regret was that he was not the one to deal Jango Fett his death blow.' #4, p84

"'Jabba's palace is built upon what was once a B'omarr monastery. At all costs, avoid the lower levels. That is where the prisons and dungeons are, and the lairs of pit beasts that have escaped over the centuries. The uppermost level is where Jabba's most valued guests stay - as long as they are valued. The average guest ends up as a krayt's dinner. Or a Sarlaacs' lunch. Bounty hunters usually fare somehwat better, if they are successful.'" #4, p87

"'There is one rule, and one rule only, when dealing with Jabba the Hutt,' his father's image pronounced solemnly. 'Do not fail.'" #4, p88

"Fear is energy. That is what his father had taught him. If you contain your own fear, it becomes power. And power makes you strong." #4, p99

I forgot to mention - the Noghri also appear in the Young Adult Boba Fett books. Boba is hired by Jabba to take out a Noghri assassin at one point, and one is just kind of hanging out on some planet (I think it was Tatooine) as well.

This struck me as rather odd.

The Durge stuff is sorta contradictory, but it can be worked around. For example,

>>"Durge! His father had warned Boba about him."<<

We could just say that Jango had said something like "Ah here is Durge an old foe of the Mandalorians," like a history lesson or something.

We never had it clearly established *when* Durge awoke, so apparently it *was* around the time of TPM, and he was another candidate for the Clone Army.

So, unless I'm misunderstanding you, you're saying that the Boba Fett #4 reference doesn't contradict anything, and instead establishes that Durge was around round abouts the TPM period, and that he possibly participated in whatever challenge Dooku laid out to decide upon his template (wasn't it the hunt for the a dark Jedi cult from the Bounty Hunter video game?) only to be beaten by Jango.

Or perhaps once Dooku discovered Durge wasn't human he disregarded him as a candidate?

Who knows, either way, the character just became a lot more interesting to me.

Coming (relatively) Soon:

Codex references from Boba Fett #5 & 6 and transcripts from the Bounty Hunter video game.

Requests:

If anyone can tell me what WEG sourcebooks have Mandalorian references I can borrow them from a friend and include those references here.

Mr. Pena -

Thanks a lot for the compliments and the inspiration that your article provided. Since there appear to be a great deal of references to Mandalorians in video games and out of print literature I thought this thread might be helpful. I'm glad that it meets with your approval happy .

From TOS databank -

His peculiar alien physiology came about to answer the questions raised by his prowess. Specifically, how could he pose a threat to the Jedi if they could simply cut him down with their lightsabers? And secondly, if he is indeed so powerful, why didn't he become the template for the clone army? His scattered nervous system and regenerative abilities answered the first question. His extended hibernation trance answered the second.

He had awakened to a galaxy at war, a galaxy where the Jedi Knights led clone soldiers in battle against the automated troops of the Confederacy.

I see a nice retcon in the making: untold stories of Jango Fett meeting Durge who returned around TPM but was sent back to sleep for a decade by Jango, thus earning Jango the top position in the clone template wish list.

EDIT: or did Durge´s DNA turn out to be uncloneeable.. meaning not able to clone, because of the regenerative things? They might not be able to alter the DNA to growth accelleration and obediance, thus he was out because he was an able fighter, but not one you can control easily.

Ok, so maybe Durge woke up during the events of the Bounty Hunter game, and was just *that much* too late to be the clone candidate? He showed up at Bogden, only to find out that Tyranus had already left with Jango?

Alrighty. Firstly, here are the possible codex references from the remaining Boba Fett young adult books (numbers 5 and 6):

"One earns respect, his father had always told him. As for those who are foolish enough not to give it to you - well, for them, there is always fear." #5, p3

"'(Jango) always said that a good bounty hunter ought to know his prey as well as he knew himself. Knowledge is power. Fear is energy. And with power and energy, one can conquer anything. One can defeat any enemy.'" #5, p17

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend, Jango had once told his son." #5, p75

"Knowledge is power, his father had taught him. knowledge is a weapon - use it carefully or pay the price!" #6, p56

Next, here is a summary of all the info contained within the text of the article (not the sidebars at the end - I'll get that later) in Insider #80:

The history of the Mandalorian shock troopers goes back possibly to the beginning of recorded galactic history.

In modern times the Mandalorians have become a grabbag of alien races (including humans, Togorians, and Kerestians) the Mandalorians were originally a grey skinned warrior race that Xenoanthropologists believe were descended from the ancient Taung Shadow Warriors of Dha Werda Verda legend. Similarities between the Mandalorian language and surviving Taung texts exist.

The planet Mandalore has figured steadily in Mandalorian history. Whether it was the Mandalorian planet of origin is unknown. Legend has it that the world was named after it's conquerer - Mandalore the First (whose warriors killed the mythosaurs that dominated the planet).

Historically Mandalorians often made conquered planets their home (including the gladiatorial combat world Kuar during the Great Sith War and the surreal Shogun before that). This practice led to the use of the name "Mandalore" as a title referring to the leader of the clans.

The Mandalorian crest, frequently mistaken for a Bantha skull, strongly resembles a mythosaur skull, but was actually adopted in reverence to a legendary Mandalorian combat training master.

The oldest documented incarnation of the Mandalorian shock troopers were the Mandalorian crusaders from around 4000 - 5000 years BBY. Made up of clans of simianlike humanoids, they were nomads that travelled through space seeking combat and they followed a code called the Canons of Honor. The Canons aimed at helping warriors to attain personal glory through combat and loyalty to one's clan. The crusaders were not primitive, placing highest priority on plundering cutting edge weaponry at every opportunity. It's thought the crusader's forefathers were a religious warrior society with laws that devolved into the Canons. After epic clashes with the insectoid Nevoota, war - once a ritual form of worship to Mandalorian gods - became itself divine and reverential. This led to the crusaders wiping out the Fenelar, Tlonians, Kuarans, and (thousands of years later) the Ithullans. The only species to survive a full-fledged Mandalorian onslaught were the neighboring Mandallian Giants. They not only repelled Mandalorian attacks but earned enough of the Mandalorians respect to later fight beside them.

The Mandalorian Crusaders jumped at the chance to participate in the Great Sith War around 4000 BBY. Fighting on the side of the Sith, the soldiers of fortune attacked Coruscant. The Jedi rallied, however, and defeated the Sith and their Mandalorian allies.

The defeat precipitated a fenzied conviction that the "Great Last Battle" was at hand. For 20 years the Mandalorians invaded non-Republic worlds at the fringes of known space, raiding them and building up a powerful army. Anticipating an apocalyptic war the Neo-Crusaders began accepting members of other species into their culture, treating them as equals. They then unleashed a series of jihads known as the Mandalorian Wars (these conflicts are generally grouped with the Great Sith War, the Cleansing of the Nine Houses, and the War of the Star Forge under the name "Old Sith Wars"). After three years the reigning Mandalore - Mandalore the Ultimate - was killed and the Neo-Crusaders were defeated. Many believed them to be extinct, and it's largely conceeded that the Mandalorian species itself all but vanished from the galaxy then. The Mandalorian Warrior culture, however, survived.

The Neo-Crusaders, decimated and embittered, turned ruthlessly mercenary in order to survive. Informally called Mandalorian Mercs, these individuals hired out their lethal talents to the highest bidders without regard to notions like justice, morals, or honor.

Some loyal Mandalorian shock troopers, like Canderous Ordo and Master Jaing, brought some of the clans to heel. Mandalorian Mercs, however, carried on their ruthless ways for millenia (as evidenced by the villainous Ung Kusp as well as Mandalorian Shock Trooper participation in the New Sith Wars between 2000-1000 BBY).

A few decades before the Clone Wars, one man changed everything.

Jaster Mereel, a deeply pious human and extraordinary soldier, saw a deep-seated dissatisfaction in the hearts of many hard-boiled Mandalorians. A former Journeyman Protector, Mereel brough a strong ethic that extended far beyond the limited Mandalorian ideology of fighting for credits. His prowess in combat earned the respect of his peers, and Mereel fought tooth-and-nail to become Mandalore and unite the clans, his ideals becoming the foundation of a new creed: the supercommando Codex.

Bloodthirsty and amoral Mandalorians resented him as they enjoyed the unaccountability of their mercenary lifestyles. One of them, Vizsla, gathered the dissenters into a splinter group, the Mandalorian Death Watch. Mereel's supercommandos recast themselves as the True Mandalorians and war between the two groups ensued.

The Mandalorian civil war killed Mereel and Viszla and almost wiped out the Mandalorians. Only a few Death Watch members survived, and the True Mandalorians were completely wiped out when the Jedi were duped into thinking they had committed atrocities against the population of Galidraan. Only one True Mandalorian survived, Jango Fett (who later became the template for the Republic's clone army).

Jango died as the clone wars began, but thanks to one of his clones the Mandalorian tradition survived. Alpha-02, an aberrant ARC trooper the Kaminoans failed to recondition, became obsessed with rebuilding the Mandalorian supercommandos. Returning to Mandalore he recruited an army of 200 soldiers from local police units, and another dozen former Death Watchmen joined as well. Near the climax of the Clone Wars these Mandalorian Protectors helped Mandalore's government seize MandalMotors' facilities in the capital city of Keldabe for Seperatist use. Squads of supercommandos also carried out covert missions for the Confederacy. Following the death of a prominant Seperatist commander, the Mandalorian Protectors (armed with a Battle Legionnaire droid army) executed multiple devastating blitzkriegs on Republic targets (including Kamino and New Bornalex).

By the end of the war only three of the 212 shock troopers was thought to have survived: childhood friends Tobbi Dala and Fenn Shysa, and a shell-shocked Alpha-02. Dala and Shysa returned to their impoverished homeworld, hoping to live out their lives in peace. When the Galactic Empire came to Mandalore, however, Dala gave his life to rid his world of Imperials. Shysa then realized it was time to revive the Mandalorian supercommandos.

Under Shysa as Mandalore, the Protectors flourished. They assisted the Alliance of Free Planets in defending known space from Nagai and Tof invaders, and helped deliver the crucial blow in the New Republic's campaign against Lord Shadowspawn. For decades the Protectors served mainly as guardians of the Mandalore sector until the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Led now by the former Bounty Hunter Boba Fett the Protectors returned conditionally to their Mercenary ways for a time (something even Shysa advocated on occassion - such as in the race for the Tessent Idol) before committing themselves unilaterally to defending the galaxy from Vong occupation.

A few notes about the above:

Firstly, a speeder full of Dathomir Force Witches speeds by Boba while he's on Coruscant in Boba Fett #6 - Just another odd observation to go along with the Noghri in books 4 and 5.

Secondly, it would appear that the only Mandalorians that are referred to as "supercommandos" are the ones that follow Jaster's teachings. Here's a quick listing of terms and what they refer to:

Shock Trooper - Generic term for Mandalorian Warrior.

Crusader - Mandalorian Warriors from 4000-5000 BBY. They are comprised of members of the actual Mandalorian species.

Neo-Crusader - Mandalorian Warriors that came right after the Crusaders and lasted, as a group, for about 23 years. They were comprised of various races.

Mandalorian Mercs - An informal title referring to any Mandalorian or group of Mandalorians that hire out their services to the highest bidder without regard to justice, morals, or honor.

Mandalorian Supercommandos / True Mandalorians - Mandalorian Warriors reunited by Jaster Mereel approximately two decades before the Clone Wars. They followed the supercommando codex which taught them an ethic that extended beyond the limited idealogy of fighting for credits. Existed until around 36 or 35 BBY or so, until revived on two seperate occassions by both Alpha-02 and Shysa and referred to as "Protectors".

Mandalorian Death Watch - Essentially a group of Mandalorian Mercs that splintered from the Supercommandos and caused a civil war. Ceased to exist as a group between 33-31 BBY or so.

Mandalorian Protectors - The name Alpha-02 gave to 212 Mandalorians he formed into a fighting group during the Clone Wars when he became obsessed with rebuilding the supercommandos. This group is, essentially, wiped out during the Wars. Later when Shysa also decides to revive the supercommando tradition during the Galactic Civil War era, this name is also used to refer to his Mandalorians.

I also wanted to add that the idea behind this thread is to create a resource for Mandalorian fans where they can (eventually) find all of the information on their favorite warrior culture in one place - It is in no way meant to replace the sources quoted or summarized, nor do I believe these dry, barebones recitations of facts to be in any way capable of doing so.

CeiranHarmony - Eventually I'd like to get summaries or transcripts of just about everything Mandalorian related in here. Not too big of a goal, huh? In the more immediate future I plan transcripts for Bounty Hunter's cinemas, summaries of the Bounty Hunter story, summaries of the Boba Fett young adult books, and a few other odds and ends.

By ALL means, if anyone want to help out, jump on in tongue .

More from the Insider #80 article:

Behind the Masks

Mandalore the Indomitable - One of the legendary leaders of the original Mandalorian race, Mandalore the Indomitable knew that he was destined to lead the Crusaders. Not profoundly intelligent, his genius came from his extraordinary intuition. Though he never understood what drove him personally, except maybe a desire for immortality, he did understand his warriors' desire for bloodletting and how to achieve victory. Mandalore committed his troops to the forces of darkness during the Great Sith War, during the end of which he finally became immortal when wild beasts on Onderon's Dxun moon devoured him.

Canderous Ordo - Canderous Ordo was one of the Mandalorians that survived the fall of the Neo-Crusaders (Reverend's note: the article states that he survived the fall of the "Crusaders" but, unless I'm missing something, it must have been supposed to read "Neo-Crusaders"). Ordo was recruited or "converted" to Mandalore the Ultimate's cause during the Mandalorian Wars. There he served as a tactician rather then a foot soldier. After losing the war Canderous sold his services to the highest bidder. Though he despised the unethical monsters most Mandalorian shock troopers had become, he saw little use in trying to save them until the day he himself became Mandalore.

Vizsla - An egomaniac that led the uprising against Mereel's True Mandalorians. Calling his faction the Death Watch he said he embodied the goal of his Mandalorian forefathers to conquer the galaxy. In truth this delusional ambition was proclaimed only to gratify Vizsla's ego and attract a power-base of self-interested sycophants. While Death Watch had many skilled fighters, their selfishness made for an undisciplined and unharmonious unit. Death Watchmen often boozed on Mandallian Narcolethe and only their immorality and the voracious will of their narcissistic leader made them formidable. Jango Fett hunted down and killed Vizsla, but several Death Watchmen still exist.

Montross - A coward and traitor, Montross abandones Jaster Mereel to enemy fire and death rather then help his leader. When Montross then tried to proclaim himself Mandalore, Jango Fett and the other True Mandalorians opposed him, and Montross fled. Montross turned to bounty hunting, and later competed against Jango in the hunt for Dooku's former Padawan, Komari Vosa. The two soldiers had a showdown on one of Iego's moons, where Jango left Montross for dead.

Jango Fett and Boba Fett - Jango Fett grew up the son of a Journeyman Protector, but when the Mandalorian Civil War came to Concord Dawn, Jango's entire family was caught in the crossfire. Jaster and the True Mandalorians saved him from Death Watch, and Jaster eventually became Jango's mentor - training him in combat, demolitions, and other Mandalorian pursuits. When Mereel was killed Jango became leader of the supercommandos until the Jedi massacred them. He then became a bounty hunter, often working with Clawdite assassin Zam Wesell. Jango also agreed to become the template for a clone army provided he recieved an unaltered clone. He raised this clone, whom he called Boba Fett, as a son until he died in the Battle of Geonosis. With only Jaster Mereel's codex as moral guidance, young Boba underwent a crash-course in bounty hunting with ruthless mentors like Count Dooku, Aurra Sing, and Jabba the Hutt. It was a merciless beginning to a career that encompassed the crippling of the Bounty Hunter's Guild, a stint as a Journeyman, fighting alongside and against Darth Vader, a lone assualt on an Imperial garrison, and escaping the Sarlacc (twice), earning Fett the reputation of best bounty hunter in the galaxy. But then the best grew old. Boba's right leg started decomposing and threatening to become cancerous. That still didn't stop him from hunting down his oldest adversary, Han Solo, to the planet Jubilar where Fett and Solo pinned one another under their guns. Fett realized then that, in a radically changing galaxy only his connection to Solo remained constant. Perhaps for the first time the agin hunter saw himself in his prey. Afterward Fett gave up the hunt. When he went to see the cloner Taun We for his leg replacement, she asked Boba to take one last job: to hunt down the last living Mandalorian supercommando responsible for devastating Kamino in the Clone Wars: Fenn Shysa. After this last hunt Fett rejoined the Mandalorian Protectors and lead them in the defense of Gyndine, Tholatin, and Mandalore during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion.

Ailyn Vel - Believed to be the offspring of Boba Fett and another hunter named Sintas Vel, Ailyn was raised by the latter until Sintas took an assignment to earn pin-money for her daughter's 16th birthday and never returned. Ailyn became consumed with hatred for her presumed estranged father. Vel initially became a hunt-saboteur, hoping to work against Boba. She killed Alpha-02 in the Extrictarium Nebula, thinking he was fet, and took his Mandalorian armor and his ARC trooper hunting kama. She then began masquerading as Boba Fett just as Jodo Kast had, and falling to the same delusions began to believe herself Boba's equal... or better. A young, bitter, and calculating hunter, Vel adhered to the Bounty Hunter's Creed, welcoming bounties from the likes of Bwahi the Hutt and the illegitimate Diversity Alliance and rogue Imperial Jeng Droga (for whom she brought in the traitorous darksider Sarcev Quest for execution. Ailyn finally tracked Fett down to the dreamscapes of Shogun, where, after finding evidence of a dead Mandalorian supercommando and the abandoned Slave IV, she assumed Fett dead, took his KDY AIAT/i starship and permanently adopted his identity. Vel disappeared during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, and not even Fett knows if she's still alive.

Mandalore the Resurrector (A.K.A. Alpha-02, "Spar") - An average of 3.5 in every 100 Kaminoan clones manifest abnormal mental or emotional tendencies. These aberrant clones always undergo careful reconditioning - except in the case of ARC trooper Alpha-02. Alpha-02, nicknamed Spar, was one of the first "test class" of 100 ARC troopers made for the Republic when Sifo-Dyas put in the order. The normal number of aberrant clones appeared and were reconditioned, but one clone, Spar, had such independence of mind and force of will that the normal reconditioning process didn't take. The Kaminoans realized this far too late but through no fault of their own. For 8 and 1/2 years Alpha-02 looked and acted like his fellow clones, then one day the mention of Jango Fett's exploits triggered a memory in SPar that didn't belong to him. Jango's memories then flooded Spar's mind, and knowing that he would be reconditioned to erase those precious memories that weren't really his, he made a bold escape from Kamino. He then roamed the Outer Rim where he worked at odd jobs for several years trying to sort out his troubled mind. After the outbreak of the Clone Wars and the death of Jango Fett Spar realized his purpose and went to work rebuilding Jango's supercommandos from local police on Mandalore (whre rumor spread that the son of Jango Fett, the last True Mandalorian, had survived to lead them). As Mandalore the Resurrector, Spar and his Mandalorian Protectors waged war on the Jedi. For their last mission Darth Sidious ordered the Mandalorian government to send the supercommando's to capture Senator Amidala on Norval II. Once there Republic forces ambushed them. After the wars Alpha-02 disappeared to the Extrictarium Nebula where, unable to reconcile his dual memories, his mind slowly gave way to clone madness. He wasn't sure if he was hallucinating when a woman named Ailyn Vel accused him of being Boba Fett and shot him dead.

Tobbi Dala and Fenn Shysa - Dala and Shysa were good and honest men. Boyhood friends born on a small province off the coast of Mandalore's largest continent, these local constables enjoyed throwing back a mug or two of Mandallian Narcolethe after a hard day's work. However, with their destitute homeworld historically marginalized by the Republic, Dala and Shysa didn't hesitate to heed Alpha-02's call for troops to resurrect the Mandalorian supercommandos and join the seemingly just Seperatists. Though Dala and Shysa were privy to a great duplicity on the part of Darth Sidious, when they returned home after the Clone Wars they found that their own people had branded them as outlaws and evildoers - the same people that had now legalized slavery to escape Mandalore's legacy of poverty. Regardless Dala and Shysa were covertly enlisted to train elite special police units around the planet. When Dala gave his life to rid Mandalore of slavers the burden of revitalizing not just the supercommandos, but Mandalore itself, fell on Shysa. Now a symbol of hope rather then evil, Shysa rallied his people to join the Alliance and oppose the force of Grand Admiral Miltin Takel. Under Mandalore Shysa's guidance the Mandalorian Protectors rose from the ashes once more. Almost twenty years later, in an unexpected turn of events, Shysa gave his life on the planet Shogun saving Boba Fett from death.

Alfreda Goot and Feskitt Bobb - Goot and Bobb were washouts from Dala and Shysa's elite police training program, but managed to cobble together suits of supercommando armor and become soldiers for hire. Goot, a Togorian, was essentially a low-rent merc. She worked a couple of jobs for minor crime lord Slag Flats before trying to make a name for herself collecting the bounty on Han Solo. She baited Solo into the Dockside Cafe at Mos Eisley, but her mediocre skill proved inadaquate to trump the legendary Han Solo luck. A Mandallian Giant, Bobb was an accomplished and ruthless hunter, famous for capturing the notorious serial killer Kardem. He carried illedal disrupters as part of his regular arsenal and had no qualms using torture methods like the Burning to acquire his quarry. Occassionally Bobb took assignments for the Empire. On one such job in the Crystal Forests of Goratak III a lucky shot from a Rebel punk ended Bobb's career.

Jodo Kast - Kast was a SpecOps Resistance fighter back when the Rebellion was a local affair, but he always valued a solid cred more then intagibles like freedom and justice. During a messy engagement on Goratak III, Kast took down a manhunter he had mistaken for Boba Fett in the confusion. Only later did he realize his error. That gave Kast an idea, and using Mandalorian armor he had salvaged from the planet Zaadja, Kast deserted the Resistance and used Fett's name as an in to bounty hunting. He immediately hooked up with two other hunters, the graceful Zardra and the diminutive Puggles Trodd. The trio ran a series of successful hunts before a botched job on Dura-Kahn soured things. With his brilliant track record, Kast grew arrogant. The fact that his bounties were rarely first rate hardly bothered him. Kast ultimately outsmarted himself when the novice hunter allowed Boba Fett to lure him into a trap and kill him.

Passion about fiction is great when it's fun and lighthearted, or when it provides respite or sheds light on real issues. But save your anger about it - on both sides of the argument - and channel it into improving real lives. - Karen Traviss
