What kind of information did you add about vehicles, specifically walkers? And did you add anything from Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns?

Not that I'm aware of -- must've been some pretty mean pirate fleets to require 200 Dreadnaughts, though -- but like I said, I haven't read Ms. Traviss' article. 8)

I've just gone through the PDF (and eight pages in one file is pretty impossible to skim through on screen, by the way) and I don't recall which detail originated where, apart from movies and books, obviously. That's not how I receive the data.

For the love of Christ, can someone post some info from the GAR article? E.G. COMMANDERS, LEGIONS, ETC?

As far as this thread is concerned, we really couldn't care less about Katanas, Thrawn, Dreadnaughts etc.!

This is thread hijacking on an obnoxious level!

Get back on topic, ya self-absorbed so-and-so's!!!

1) Who said those 200 ships were meant to operate together?
2) Who says, that the Katana-fleet was designed to fight anybody and wasn't just a huge prestige-project to show the advantages of centralized computer-systems and to impress outer rim-systems with a grundge against the NR?

Yeah, repel all Fleet Junkie boarders! Stand to!

Folks, the article is just about the Grand Army. That means clone boys, and land forces and air elements in particular. It's not about the fleet. It's only eight pages, for fierfek's sake...

Now get back on topic before we call in Ordo and the lads to sort you out...

Lets try this the other way:

Considering the many clones we see aboard naval vessels, is the fleet at the time of the Old Republic part of the GrandArmy (a real live-analogy would be the military of the Peoples Republic of China) or its own arm of service?

Okay, let me answer this the other way, then. I have clone warships coming up in Triple Zero. All clone crew, with a Jedi. (For ballast, probably.) So I've given them their own flotilla, at least for what I like to think of as the HMS Fearless role.

The Chinese PLA also has a naval arm seperate from the PLAN. Mostly for transportation on China's many rivers and the like, along with some gunboats, IIRC.

Put I always figured the GAR to be more equilivalent to the USMC, and the USMC has its own amphibious carriers.

It might help to see the Republic forces more as the UK forces are currently arranged. There are three services and still a lot of cap badges, but when the chaps with the scrambled egg are doing their high-level planning, they only talk in terms of capabilities- maritime, land and air. They never say, "I want the Army to do that and the RAF to do this." Everything is now very "purple" (tri-service) and it's only when you get a little further down the mission planning chain that people drill down to work out what force element can best provide it.

So, for example, the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force all have air capability. Which one does the job in any particular op will depend on the conditions the force element will encounter.

It's called estimates - working out what you have to do, what might give you a problem doing it, and so what assets and elements you need to commit to get the job done. (Big chunk of officer training at staff colleges.) You end up pulling stuff in from a wide spectrum.

Does that make sense? I took this to its absolute and possibly excessive extreme in the Federal European defence model I have in the City of Pearl series, where there are still cap badges for morale purposes (it's hard to get behind an idea that isn't at the tribal camaraderie level) but that the bulk of the defence force is expected to have core skills that are supplemented by specialist adquals. (Except the Royal Marines, of course, who are special. cool )
