  • Oh, and this finally settles the question of Bane and Zannah.

    He tested her by making her find her own way to Onderon, which she did, and once he found her there, he made her his apprentice.

    PS: Dan has now also made the same mistake as Abel and called Tomcat Zannah's "sister". (When she's actually a cousin.)

  • Reason given for Luke's surname - Owen and Beru tell the neighbours they are honouring "Owen's beloved stepmother - Shmi". Very nice fix, Dan. happy

    Anything about Nejaa Halcyon's death?

    It occurs "shortly after Praeslityn" (itself 2 years, 6 months after Geonosis). Nothing else new.

    Nope, it's official release date is either today or tomorrow, I believe; however, as usual, some stores have put it on shelves a little ahead of time, and so some of us (alas, not ME! I WANT IT! I WANT IT NOW! NOW NOW NOW! *cough* ahem) have managed to get it a couple of days early.

    Confirmation of the state of the Republic during the New Sith Wars - Basically, a shrunken entity, consisting of merely the Core Worlds, while the Sith Warlords (including Kaan, Qordis, Bane, Seviss Vaa and Kaox Krul) fought over nearly the entire galaxy. Economic and social collapse, basically a "Dark Age" (and it uses those words). The Jedi at this stage rule the Republic as a theocracy, even serving as Supreme Chancellors.

    Awesome. I hope there's more on this in the Bane novel.

    I've never looked at the original EC, so what is the format of this? Just a timeline of events from different sources, or does it tie things into a larger picture? I'm specifically wondering with the Clone Wars, whether it's only a chronological summary of the books/comics or whether it covers the broader scope of the war, like major campaigns and such. Anything on Plagueis? And how much detail does it give to the events of KOTOR I/II?

    Definately the latter. It's not a big timeline, its more a condensed "History of the Galaxy". (It's written "in universe, as well.")

    I'm specifically wondering with the Clone Wars, whether it's basically a chronological summary of the books/comics or whether it covers the broader scope of the war, like major campaigns and such.

    The Clone Wars section is the most detailed part. (next to the Galactic Civil War - which, of course, is 20 years as opposed to 3 years long). It goes into major campaigns and characters. Haven't looked deeply enough to see anything new, but I casually note a figures being thrown around which suggest many, many more clone troopers than (cough) 3 million.

    Anything on Plagueis? And how much detail does it give to the events of KOTOR I/II?

    Plagueis - yes. It all but specifically names Anakin as a sith experiment - but is vague on whether it was Plagueis, Sidious or both. It does explain that Sidious killed Plagueis because he discovered of the plot, however. (which implied that Plagueis was going to replace Palpy with Anakin.)

    KOTOR I - in depth summary and pics
    KOTOR II - bare bones summary, pic of Sion.

    It's a very abbreviated compendium of all the essential guides, Hydronium, scattered with illustrations the others may not have. It's good for a newcomer wanting an informative overview.

    Not exactly. There is a LOT of information here that we haven't seen before, particularly in the 2,000-1000 BBY section.

    Additonally the interior art is great - two page panormas of the various battles of the Old and New Sith Wars, Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War. Top stuff.

    The cover is totally ghay, however.

    Thanks for the info, QG. A lot of the Essential Guides seem pretty inessential to me (do I really need a compendium of every weapon in Star Wars?), but this sounds interesting; I'll have to look into it.

    Yep, by Drew Karpyshyn (which is only spelled correctly because I copied it out of the Upcoming Release Dates thread wink ) and scheduled for October 2006.

    Since that's one of the least-covered areas of those that actually have been covered, that's good to hear. Now they need to start filling in those other thousand-year gaps between major events...

    Let me put it this way. It's more in the vein of the NEGTC, rather than the NEGTVV or NEGTWT

    Oh, and let me add.

    There is a major retcon in the when the Sith Empire formed.

    Suffice to say, it was later than we expected, and Xendor's importance in the scheme of things is overrated.

    With regards to Coruscant ....it is specifically stated that :

    Taung = Mandalorians
    Zhell = Humans

    Zhell win, Taungs flee and conquer Mandalore.
