In order to make sure everyone understands the expectations for posting in the Line By Line Threads, I have updated Quix’s previous post on the issue.

The expectations for posting in the LBL’s are as follows:
  1. Any user may post in the LBLs, however using socks to reply to a line and continue the thread is not acceptable and will result in a ban and either temporary or permanent ban from posting in a LBL.

  2. Since many people utilize online scripts to post in the Line by Lines, please be aware of extra scenes that might be in the scripts that are not contained in the movie. Please do not post lines from scenes that are not contained in the film.

  3. Post, in full, the line immediately after the previous line. Please do not skip lines or combine lines. If a line is skipped, simply move on to the next line.

  4. If you and someone else post the same line at the same time, then the appropriate person should edit their post to be correct, but if the edit is not completed, the next line should be posted in order.

  5. No micromanagement of the LBL's. Activities which detract from the fun including the correcting of another’s post, veiled insults; etc., are no-no's. Continued corrections posted will result in the user being warned then receving a ban. Further incidents will result in a progressive ban (24hrs then 48hours, and so on). Corrections to a line should only be made if the line is from the wrong movie or wrong scene.

  6. Leave the moderating to the moderators. If someone breaks one of the LBL guidelines, please do not post the rule they broke in the thread, leave that to a moderator. If you have concerns about this, contact a SWC moderator via PM.

  7. Posting in a line by line is supposed to be an exercise in fun, not simple regurgitation. Therefore, allowances will be made for users that post a line that is not exactly the same as what is in the film version. In those cases where a line is posted that is a slight variation of the line, corrections of the post should not be made, simply continue with the next line.

  8. Acting inappropriately (TOS violations, as well as rudeness towards other posters) results in a warning, then prohibition from posting in LBL threads for a month. Further violations means no posting in LBL's again on pain of banishment.

  9. Spamming LBL's to increase one's post count will result in the user's post count being reset to zero. This goes for newbie and oldbie alike.

  10. The LBL's will go through the films twice, then be locked and "offline" for one month before being restarted.

Ladies and gentlemen, the bottom line here is that Line by Line threads are made to be fun and entertaining – not an exercise in the absolute recitation of the movies. Errors may be made and we will allow for deviations in the lines. These threads are supposed to be community building and enjoyable to all. Please remember that and have fun.

Thank you.

When they differentiate, do we post the Original line, or the Special Edition line?

Or the soon-to-be Suuuper Edition line?

We always post the SE line, because the SE is the official version of the movie.

A sock is an alternate user account you may have.

For example, if I posted "I am your father," and then I immediately logged off and logged in again with another account and posted the next line, "Nooooooooo!", that would be a violation of the rules.

Okay, my question:

Since many people utilize online scripts to post in the Line by Lines, please be aware of extra scenes that might be in the scripts that are not contained in the movie. Please do not post lines from scenes that are not contained in the film.

Why do the scripts contain scenes or lines not in the film? Why don't the scripts contain exactly what the movie shows?

Most of the time it's because those scripts are based on the shooting scripts. Changes made on set do not always come through to the printed book.

And in the editing room.

They are scripts, not transcripts like what you are proposing.

Yet, the use and referencing of scripts and transcripts in lbl threads can be useful in other ways, and are invaluable for many many reasons.

But these lines of which you speak are interesting to read, regardless.

Simply going on what a person "hears" is not enough. There are movie print variations, and lines are different depending on what version VHS or DVD you have, it has been documented on other threads in these forums. Can't tell you exactly where, but I know I read them numerous times....

I would really appreciate it if the rules for the LBLs were more clearly spelled out. Two weeks ago, I got banned for doing something that the rules didn't say I couldn't do. If the rules were clearer, I would have known I couldn't do that.

The rules are spelled out clearly enough. No one else has an issue following them. We're moderators not babysitters. No micromanagement means just that.
