	Title: Newborn Empire Author: Jedi-Tiger-Lilly Timeframe: ROTS-Era Characters: Jedi Summary: An executive order is carried out. Notes: ROTS SPOILERS!!! The language in this is deliberately very stark. The story demanded it. This is short, but I hope it works. Also, this is the first time I've posted any of my work, so I am a bit nervous. Newborn Empire All across the newborn Empire, whether night is falling or dawn is breaking, the Jedi die. The young knight is made to kneel in the mud as she waits for death, a messy and cruel end to an orderly and noble life. A padawan pleads for her master’s life and their hands are clasped when a flash of fire strikes them down. An older Jedi is sharing a meal with his killer, and death finds him between one bite and the next. Two knights are sleeping and never hear their fate approach on the white boots of the clone troopers. One young man, barely more than a boy really, is allowed one single moment of grief before being thrust headlong into the Force, into the light. Her questioning interrupted, a Jedi Knight and her prisoner flee from the pursuing clone troopers. The knight escapes, but her prisoner does not. Jedi pilots watch in shock as their comrades-in-arms turn their fighters and blast them into oblivion. Masters shield their young charges to no avail, their bodies slumped over them in one last desperate act of protection. A middle aged Zabrak, who has just started to suspect that all is not well in Coruscant, is pulled from his bed in a medcenter and shot through the head just as he realizes these orders must have come from the top. Some stare in dumb amazement as their loyal troops turn weapons on them. Many fight for their lives and go down in a blur of blue or green that makes their killers pay the price for their treachery. A Jedi healer is dragged from the tent in which she has healed their wounds and the sounds of her murder echo through the jungle. Some escape through cleverness or a bit of luck, a mere handful. And so the order is carried out. One young Jedi offers up his soul and is as dead as any corpse, though he walks among the living. A giant rift is made in the very fabric of the Force. And as each new soul finds their way home, the tear grows larger and wider until the pain of it brings survivors to their knees. 	Short, yes. Powerful, as VaderLVR said, yes. Evocative, and image conjuring, definitely. There's an old saying in art, which also applies to the art of the written word, "Sometimes less is more." By not describing every detail, you allow our minds to fill in the rest. You did so admirably. 	Whoa! That sort of put it all right there in living color. I've read the book (gave up on being spoiler free- too hard!) but I guess I never thought about the different scenarios as the Jedi die throughout the galaxy. -----signature----- But you have heard of me, right?

	This was excellent. You truly captured the cold, calculated horror of these betrayals, and the short sentences and stark tone of the piece really added to that sense of coldness and urgency.
