----------------------

NOTE: As mentioned in the title, this is a sequel to "First Knight" which can be found at First Knight
or you can click on my name to see my listings of fics.

Three years ago I had written a fic called Stars in the Darkness, which was the sequel to the original version of First Knight. If by chance you read that sequel, well, just to let you know, this sequel is totally different and brand spanking new (even has a different name) because I'm a totally different and brand-spanking new person.

No, just kidding. happy But my head is in a different place now than it was back then and ROTS has proven very, VERY inspiring. Thus this new sequel.

For those who nave not read First Knight, but would like to know what events transpired in it, the following synopsis is provided.

SYNOPSIS OF EVENTS FROM "FIRST KNIGHT": When Obi-Wan Kenobi and his teen-aged apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, are sent to Ahjane to negotiate a peace accord between warring provinces, as a condition of the peace accord a marriage is arranged between Onara, the only child of Dynast K'lia, leader of one province, and Dynast Edress, the leader of the other.

As part of an ancient and time-honored ritual, Obi-Wan is asked to bless the marriage of Onara and Edress by spending the night with her. Reluctantly, the Jedi Knight agrees to do so, but as a result, falls in love with Onara.Unbeknownst to Onara or Obi-Wan, however, Onara's grandmother, the formidable and ambitious Lady Tsara, who longs to have a heir for her province who would possess the power of a Jedi, sees that Onara becomes pregnant from the ritual by ensuring she does not receive the prescribed conception inhibitor. Onara falls deathly ill from the high midi-chlorian count of the twins she carries. She does, however, deliver the children, a boy named Ben and a girl named Sari.

Obi-Wan, learning of Onara's illness, goes on a desperate and hopeless quest to find an insane, ex-Jedi Healer named Sinja-Bau. Meanwhile Lady Tsara, who has been banished for her schemes, is visited by Count Dooku. Although he does not participate actively in her plans to get her hands on her great-grandchildren, he does give her some assistance. Tsara has Onara's husband, Edress, murdered and puts in his place a man who is more willing to do her bidding.

As Obi-Wan travels far beyond the borders of the Republic to the distant ice planet of Toola to find Sinja-Bau, Lady Tsara hires merciless, trained assassins called the Red Tide to kill her son, Dynast K'lia, and kidnap her great-grandchildren. Obi-Wan, meanwhile, finds Sinja-Bau and, although she is still gripped by her madness, he brings her with him in the hope that somehow, in spite of her insanity, she can cure Onara, who is rapidly slipping away.

The Red Tide attacks Dynast K'lia's manor, killing him and a Jedi Healer by the name of Master Eo, Sinja-Bau's former apprentice, who was helping Anakin guard Onara and Ben. Anakin succeeds in defeating most of the Red Tide but Tsara is able to escape with Ben. Anakin pursues her and, when Tsara tries to kill him, he kills her instead, rescuing Ben, who is unharmed in the process.

Meanwhile, upon arriving at the manor, Obi-Wan witnesses Onara's throat being slashed by one of the Red Tide assassins. Beyond all hope and using his profound love for her to fuel the light side of the Force he miraculously saves her life, though she is left with a scar about her neck from the attack.

Sinja-Bau, upon seeing the dead body of her former apprentice is cured of her madness by the Force and is also given back her powers. The Jedi Council had stripped them from her before she was expelled from the Order. She successfully cures Onara of her illness. But the reunion between Onara and Obi-Wan is brief and bittersweet.

Now free once again to marry Onara is pressured by the Assembly, the central political entity on Ahjane, to marry Dynast Dalan, the nephew of the man she married in order to stop the war. Obi-Wan encourages her in this marriage, hoping it will make her happy and provide his children with a father.

He and Anakin are summoned back to Coruscant to appear before the Jedi Council. Obi-Wan is expelled from the Jedi for having placed his love for Onara over his vows to the Jedi Order. Anakin is given to another Jedi, Master Nygee, who is instructed to complete his training. When Obi-Wan comes across a notice announcing the marriage of Onara to Dalan he does not return to Ahjane in that he doesn’t want to make her decision even more difficult. It is friend, Dexter Jettser, whom Obi-Wan has been living with since his expulsion, who discovers that Onara did not, in fact, marry Dalan. Obi-Wan returns to Ahjane to be with her and their children.

The events of "In Love in War" take place three years later.

Part One

--------------------

The Jedi Temple was silent. For over a thousand years the majestic building had echoed with the voices and footfalls of thousands upon thousands of Jedi: younglings, padawans, knights, masters and those visitors fortunate enough to gain entrance to it.

But now, as Obi-Wan Kenobi walked slowly along one of its wide corridors, there was only silence. A silence as palpable as pain, as keen as grief. His footsteps, the only ones to be heard within the Temple, were as heavy as his heart. As far as his eyes could see lay hundreds of bodies; some dressed in the uniforms of the Jedi Order, others in the white armor of what looked liked soldiers.

If not for the fact that he clearly saw the bodies and distinctly smelled the charred flesh from the blaster burns he would have thought it was only a dream. No, not a dream. A nightmare. A nightmare more horrible than anything he could ever have imagined.

But then, as Obi-Wan moved closer to the bodies, if he had thought he could not imagine anything more horrific than what he had seen so far, what he now saw convinced him that there were still horrors in this life that even his mind was incapable of conjuring until faced with the cold, implacable fact of them.

Younglings. He was staring down at the dead bodies of younglings. The pain hit him like a blaster bolt. Not even the younglings had been spared. The Jedi Order had taken these children from their homes and had promised their parents and podcircles and crèchemates that they would be taken care of. That they would be safe. Tears stung Obi-Wan's eyes.

Then, as he glanced to the side his mind at first refused to accept what he saw even as the images were being transmitted from his eyes to his brain. Then he realized that it was not his mind that refused to accept what was before him.

It was his heart.

Two children lay together, hands clasped as if, at the final moment, they had reached out for the other. They were the same age, about five standards and although one, the boy, was dark-haired and the other, a girl, had reddish-gold hair, it was apparent they were siblings if not in fact twins, for their features were similar enough to suggest they were related.

This is the way Obi-Wan’s mind processed the images of these two children. But his heart saw them differently for his heart knew them. The dark-haired boy was named Ben. The girl, whose hand he held so tightly, was Sari. They were the children of Onara, a beautiful Ahjanese woman to whom Obi-Wan had given his heart and who had given him hers. And they were also his children.

He fell to his knees next to them and even though logic told him there was no life left in their small bodies, he reached out and touched them anyway, hoping beyond hope that they were only sleeping. Their skin was as soft as Obi-Wan remembered but already their flesh was cooling. He bent over and cradled both his children in his arms and despite all the lessons he had been taught to rejoice for those who became one with the Force, Obi-Wan did not rejoice.

And there was no longer silence in the Jedi Temple. There were now the hoarse, guttural howls of a man grieving over the dead bodies of his children.

Obi-Wan did not know how long he wept. Hours? Days? Years? A millennium? It was only when he heard footsteps from behind him that he slowly lowered his children's bodies to the floor.

He turned around, tears blurring his sight. Someone was standing behind him. The figure was dressed in the robe and uniform of a Jedi but everything was black, from his boots to his hood. Obi-Wan could barely make out a face within the darkness of the cowl.

“I did what I had to do. They were enemies of the Republic.” The voice was low and devoid of anything that sounded remotely human.

Obi-Wan slowly rose from his knees. “Who? These children? My children?” he shouted.

“Every single Jedi is now an enemy of the Republic.”

Obi-Wan touched the lightsaber on the belt about his waist. “I too am a Jedi. Have you come to kill me the same way you butchered these innocents?”

“There are no innocents in war, Master.”

Obi-Wan jumped at the sound of that title being applied to him by this cold-blooded killer. He stepped closer and gasped. “Anakin? What by all the Ancients have you done?”

“I have destroyed a threat to the Republic.”

“A threat to the Republic? Have you gone mad? They were children! My children!”

“They were Jedi.”

“And so are you,” Obi-Wan said, still unable to believe what he was hearing.

“No longer, Master.”

Anakin ignited the blade of the lightsaber he held and it was the blood-red color of a Sith's. Obi-Wan quickly unhooked and turned on his weapon.

"Why, Anakin? Why have you done this terrible thing?"

"I did what I had to do. And if I have to extinguish every star in the galaxy to save her I will do it."

"Save her? Save who?"

Anakin raised his lightsaber. Obi-Wan responded in kind, his body in Jedi ready stance. He glanced over at the dead bodies of his children and the need to drive his lightsaber through Anakin’s heart was like a bloodlust in his veins. He looked back at his padawan, his hands gripping the hilt of his lightsaber.

"I'm going to kill you, Anakin."

“You will try."

The two men, lightsabers blazing, ran towards each other.

-------------

Obi-Wan woke up, his heart pounding, the sweat pouring down his chest. For a moment he was completely disoriented and did not know where he was. But he was not in the Jedi Temple nor was he running toward his former padawan, the need to utterly destroy Anakin like a fever in his blood.

He looked around. A soft breeze, fragrant with the smell of honeyroses, wafted through the large windows of the room and stirred the long gossamer curtains. It was nighttime and the only sounds were the wind through the tress, what sounded like gentle waves washing against a shore and the soft breathing of the woman who lay next to him.

He looked over. Onara’s dark hair was spread across her pillow and strands of it lay across her face. Her lush lips were parted and as she breathed, the strands rose and fell with each breath. Obi-Wan leaned over and gently brushed her hair away from her face. She stirred but did not awaken.

He collapsed against the pillows. A dream. Only a dream. For he was not on Coruscant, not at the Jedi Temple standing amid the dead bodies of his fellow Jedi and of his children, and not facing the murderer who had killed them. Obi-Wan shuddered. How could he have dreamt such a ghastly thing?

It was times like these that he missed Master Yoda and his wise and gentle counsel the most. Not that he had ever been one to seek Yoda's advice merely because of a bad dream. And a dream was all Obi-Wan would allow himself to see it as. But it would have been comforting just to be in Yoda's presence.

He closed his eyes and called upon Jedi meditation techniques to slow the wild beating of his heart. Once his pulse was back to normal he opened his eyes. He was on Ahjane, in Yovana province and he was in the main bedroom of the elegant but cozy chateau that had been a gift to Onara from Dynast Dalan, now Senator Dalan Lenor. Onara, he and the children had come here to spend some time together before he and Onara left for Coruscant to attend Dalan’s official swearing in as the first duly elected Senator of Ahjane.

The children!

Obi-Wan rose from the bed but did so quietly so as not to awaken Onara. He went down the corridor to Ben and Sari’s room. He opened the door. It was dark inside, although a tiny nightlight shaped like a star floated around the room. There were two beds in the room and in each of the beds one of his and Onara’s children slept.

Unlike the children in his dream, Ben and Sari were not five standards but only three. As a matter of fact, they had recently celebrated the third anniversary of their Birthing Day. Obi-Wan went over to Ben’s bed. Although he knew it had only been a dream he was relieved to hear his son’s soft breathing. He looked down at him.

Ben was hardly ever seen without either a smile on his face or joyfulness in his bright blue-gray eyes. He woke up with a smile and went to bed with one, and he was so gentle and kind and loved everyone so readily and completely that it sometimes made Obi-Wan's heart ache. He stroked his son's thick dark hair, which was so much like his mother's. He kissed Ben's forehead and when he rose up, he was not surprised to see a slight smile on his son's face.

He turned and went over to Sari's bed. He smiled again but this time there was a slight curl to his smile. If Ben was like the moon, tranquil and gentle, Sari was like the sun, dazzling and fiery, just like her red-gold hair. Where Ben was easy-going and serene, Sari constantly sought to assert herself with every person she met. Where Ben was content being in his own company, Sari demanded to be the center of attention, her large dark eyes snapping fiercely whenever anyone had the audacity to ignore her.

She was so high-spirited that on more than one occasion Onara had confessed to Obi-Wan her concern that Sari was acting, as she grew older, more and more like Lady Tsara and she wondered if her grandmother’s ghost had somehow possessed her daughter.

Obi-Wan had assured Onara that her fears were groundless. He did not believe in possession and neither should she, and if their daughter was rather spirited and strong-willed, well, he had detected nothing about her that hinted at the darkness that had consumed her great-grandmother.

His assurances did not help alleviate the growing conflict between mother and daughter, however. Sparks had been flying quite frequently between Sari and Onara to the point that Obi-Wan was often called in to intervene as he was the only person other than Sinja-Bau, or Bau-Bau, as the children called her, that Sari would mind.

He leaned over her and kissed her soft round cheek and, as he pulled back, he was not surprised to see her forehead crease into a frown. But like her brother she too did not awaken. Both were exhausted from the past day's activities. He was still amazed at how quickly the time had past and how fast his children had grown. It was the most extraordinary and marvelous thing he had ever witnessed, watching them grow from tiny babies to these little people with minds and opinions of their own.

“Obi-Wan?

He turned at the sound of Onara’s soft voice. She stood in the doorway, peering anxiously at him. He smiled and pulled Sari’s blanket back over her. One time when he had checked on Sari he had found her turned completely around in her bed, her feet on the pillows, her head at the foot and her blanket, of course, on the floor. He went over to Onara and stepped back into hall, closing the door gently behind them.

She put her hand on his arm. “Are the children all right?”

“They're fine. I was just...checking on them.

“Are you all right?” Her dark eyes gazed worriedly up at him. "You look so pale."

“I’m fine.”

Onara frowned. “You’re lying.”

“Jedi don’t lie,” Obi-Wan said automatically.

“But you’re no longer a Jedi, my love,” she gently reminded him. "Please, tell me. What's wrong?"

Obi-Wan released a sigh. Over the last three years, since his expulsion from the Jedi Order, he had spent nearly every day with Onara and she had come to know him in a way that no other, not even Qui-Gon, had ever known him.

“I feel like some tea," he said. "Would you like some?”

She nodded and slipped her arm through his. They went into the kitchen. Obi-Wan waved on the lights while Onara went over to start the tea. He smiled. They had been at the chateau for two weeks now and, although he was well aware that his beloved was far from being a spoiled child of wealth and privilege, for she had been the only child of a Dynast, he had wondered how she would function without her retinue of servants. She had, however, taken to what she called being a domestic goddess with her customary bright-eyed eagerness and had vowed, with her usual enthusiasm, to cook every night for her family.

A corner of his mouth curled up. Enthusiasm, yes. Competence, no because, try as she might, Onara was a terrible cook. No matter how carefully she read the recipes, followed the instructions or measured whatever needed to be measured, every single thing she tried to cook tasted awful. Obi-Wan did not have the heart to tell her she was a bad cook, for every time she would bring her latest creation in from the kitchen there would be such eager anticipation in her eyes that he could only smile at her even while his stomach was already beginning to roil.

As for Sari, Onara just assumed her daughter was being her usual difficult self when she stubbornly refused to eat what she called Mommy's icky food. Obi-Wan would then have to throw something together for Sari to eat, after firmly chastising her for her rudeness, which did no good because the next evening when Onara approached the dining table with her latest dish, Sari would scrunch up her face and say the same exact thing.

Although Obi-Wan secretly agreed with Sari's assessment of her mother's cooking, he and Ben gamely tried to eat whatever Onara set before them. Ben would bravely take a few bites before setting down his dining utensil. Onara would anxiously ask him if the food tasted all right and he would just smile and say, yes, Mommy, it tasted good but no, Mommy, thank you, he didn't want anymore because he was full.

Obi-Wan, during his years as a Jedi, had eaten so many diverse and strange dishes there wasn’t much his stomach couldn’t handle and he would usually finish his meal, although he had to admit Onara's cooking was severely testing his limits. He was very much looking forward to returning to the manor and to Jira's, the head cook, mouth-watering meals. Onara seemed to have no difficulty eating what she cooked, though Obi-Wan had noticed her portions were not as large as the ones she had at the manor.

After dinner she and Sari would go off for what Onara liked to call Mommy and Sari's time, which usually involved them walking along the lake looking for brightly-colored rocks or whatever managed to catch Sari's eye. Obi-Wan had suggested it as a way to smooth the growing turbulence between the two and, he had to admit, to get Onara out of the house for a bit. He and Ben would then sneak into the kitchen and Obi-Wan would make them both something to eat. Afterwards Ben would pat his now full tummy and share a secret smile with his father.

Obi-Wan gazed fondly at Onara as she moved about the kitchen. He could at least trust her to make a decent pot of tea. Even after all this time he was still amazed at how beautiful she was. She wore a sheer, peach-colored robe over her nightgown, both of which accentuated her slim figure. These past two weeks at the lake, in which all of them had tried to spend as much time outdoors as possible, had tanned her skin to a luxuriant gold. Her thick dark hair, which was still mused from sleep, tumbled down her long neck and across her slender shoulders.

A frown creased her forehead as she carefully measured out the tea leaves. Once she had gotten the tea going she came over and sat next to him. Obi-Wan glanced through the kitchen window. Although it was still dark, dawn was not far off. The beginning of their last day at the chateau. They would be returning to the manor later that afternoon and then he and Onara would leave the next day for Coruscant to attend Dalan’s swearing in as Senator of Ahjane.

Onara put her hand over his. “Now will you tell me what’s troubling you?”

He looked over at her. How could he tell her he had dreamed their children were dead and that Anakin had killed them?

“Is it going back to Coruscant?” she asked when he remained silent. "Is that what's bothering you?"

He nodded. Let her think it was that for although he truly did not wish to lie or keep things from her he had no intention of telling her about such a dreadful dream. For that was all it was. Just a dream, he firmly told himself.

“I’ve sensed you’ve been anxious ever since we received Dalan’s invitation to attend his swearing-in.” She squeezed his hand. “We don’t have to go if you don’t want to.”

Obi-Wan shook his head. “We’re going. You've worked so hard to not only get Ahjane accepted as a member of the Republic but Dalan elected its first Senator. I won’t deprive you of the opportunity to be there when it all becomes a reality.”

She smiled. “You make it sound like I did it all alone. You helped too.”

“I only gave you and Dalan a few pointers on how to deal with the Senate. You know how I feel about politics. And politicians.”

Her lips crinkled into a tender smile. “Very much so, for you’ve never been shy about hiding your feelings, at least as it relates to that.”

He chuckled. "I haven’t been too reticent with my opinions, have I? I do hope Dalan did not take my...umm...criticisms to heart."

Onara patted his hand. “He never has. He respects you too much to do that.”

Actually, other than giving Onara and Dalan those pointers, Obi-Wan had kept as far away as possible from their efforts to bring Ahjane into the Republic. Politics gave him a headache and he could never bring himself to take part in all the double-dealing, backroom strategizing and wheeling and dealing it entailed.

Onara, however, had proven a natural when it came to such things and Dalan had come to rely more and more on her perceptiveness and counsel. There had been months when she had, in fact, spent more time with him than she had with her family and it was during those times that Obi-Wan had, for brief, terrible moments, feared losing her.

With his tall, muscular body, thick black hair and dark blue eyes, Dalan looked like a holostar. He was also one of the wealthiest men on Ahjane and, with his election to the Galactic Senate, now one of the most powerful. And he was also generous, kind and considerate and was, for all intents and purposes, practically perfect. And it was no secret, at least not to Obi-Wan, that he was also hopelessly in love with Onara.

But neither he nor Onara had given Obi-Wan any reason to doubt her fidelity to him, although Obi-Wan had confessed to Sinja-Bau that he would be relieved when the handsome Dynast finally married. Dalan had yet to take a wife although he had received a stream of offers from prominent Ahjanese families.

If Obi-Wan feared losing Onara, especially on those nights when she had sometimes not come home until the wee hours of the morning because she and Dalan had been working far into the night, it was only because he was not naïve about his status as it related to her. He had come to Ahjane with nothing but, essentially, the clothes on his back and even now that was all he still had because the Assembly, from the moment he arrived, had made it quite clear to Onara that any marriage between her and Obi-Wan would result in Ben's title as Dynast being stripped from him.

So, in the eyes of the well-heeled society that Onara was forced to move within as the daughter and mother of a Dynast, Obi-Wan was nothing more than a kept man, though Onara went out of her way to involve him in all the decisions regarding the administration of her province, the maintenance of her household and the regency for Ben. But the gossip, which Obi-Wan knew members of the Assembly encouraged, continued unabated to the point that Onara, weary of it all, begged off most of the social invitations she received.

The Assembly feared Obi-Wan and it did not matter to them that he was no longer a Jedi and had, in fact, gone out of his way not to use or display his Force powers. In their eyes it was bad enough that Ben, along with Sari, was being trained in the ways of the Force by Obi-Wan and Sinja-Bau and that someday he would rule as a Dynast. Onara certainly did not need to be married to someone with such powers.

"Hello?" Onara waved her hand in front of his face. "Ahjane to Obi-Wan."

He looked over at her. He had been so lost in his thoughts he had forgotten she was there. Then he saw she had brought over two steaming cups of tea. He picked his up and sipped it.

"I'm serious, Obi-Wan," she said. "We don't have to go to Coruscant."

He lowered his cup and stroked her cheek. "I saw the gown you bought for the Senate Ball. Surely you don't intend to let such an elegant frock go to waste?"

She smiled. "I won't lie to you. I am looking forward to going to Coruscant and seeing where you grew up and all the wonders you've described. And I do so want to go to Dex's and thank him personally for what he did in bringing us together."

"Coruscant is a wondrous place but it's also a rancor pit." He frowned. "And it's become even worse."

Onara nodded. Like him she had been keeping up with the news on the HoloNet, another modernization that she and Dalan had been successful in bringing to Ajhane. The news in recent months had become more and more alarming. Growing corruption among the Senators, a disquieting complacency among the constituents they served regarding said corruption, and a bloated bureaucracy groaning under its own unwieldy weight had led to the formation of a reform movement spearheaded by none other than Count Dooku, one of the Lost Twenty and the very man who had trained Qui-Gon.

The Separatist Movement, as it was known, was a growing coalition that was threatening the stability of the Republic. And Onara and Dalan were walking straight into the midst of a political, economic and societal firestorm. In Obi-Wan’s eyes, despite all their political savvy here on Ahjane, the two were nothing more than babes in the woods and there was no way he was not going with them to Coruscant to at least look after them.

Onara took his hand. "Obi-Wan..." She stopped and shook her head.

He gently kissed her long, slender fingers. "What is it, love?"

"I love you," she suddenly cried, her voice throbbing with emotion. "And these past three years have been the happiest of my life. I never imagined I could be so happy." She gazed anxiously at him. "Have you been happy?"

He stared at her in amazement. How could she even doubt it? "Oh, yes, love, yes, I have." He drew her into his lap and her warm, soft arms slid around his neck.

"I never dreamed that something as simple as watching your children sleep or kissing away their hurts or..." He stopped and looked deep into Onara's eyes. "....waking up every morning next to the woman I love could give me such joy. Yes, Onara, I have been very happy."

"But you miss it, don't you? And please don't lie and say you don't in order to make me feel better. I know you miss being a Jedi and making a difference. I know you miss Anakin."

It was true. Despite the contentment he had experienced these last few years with Onara and the children, he did miss his old life. And he missed Anakin. His former padawan was now a young man and, although Obi-Wan had received sporadic letters from him, he had no idea what Anakin's life had been like since their separation. All he knew was that Anakin was still Master Nygee's apprentice and that he had yet to take the Trials to become a Jedi Knight. It pained Obi-Wan to know that he had not been a part of Anakin's life these past three years.

"Perhaps you'll see him on Coruscant."

"Maybe." He stroked her hair. "Jedi are often away from the Temple for months at a time. He may not be there when we arrive."

Onara snuggled her head under his neck. "You will see him. I know you will."

He smiled and kissed her forehead. He knew she still felt guilty for having been the reason for his expulsion from the Jedi Order and his separation from Anakin.

"Yes, I'm sure I will," he said.

"And after the ceremony and we've...." She stopped and gave Obi-Wan a wry grin. ".... after I've helped Dalan settle in as Senator, we'll come home to the children and everything will be as it has been. And we’ll be happy."

Obi-Wan smiled but he sensed it wasn't him Onara was trying to convince but herself. He drew her closer and she nestled alongside him, her warm soft body pressing against his. His pulse quickened. There was one other facet to his having lived life as an ordinary man that he had not imagined would give him such bliss. The intoxicating pleasure of sharing a bed every night with someone you loved.

"Onara?"

"Hmmm."

"We should go back to bed."

She looked over at him. "But I'm not sleepy."

He tightened his arms about her waist. "Neither am I," he murmured.

Onara laughed and her low throaty laughter sent a sensual thrill down his spine.

"Thou art a most wicked man, Obi-Wan Kenobi," she whispered in ancient Ahjanese, the language the two of them spoke when they were feeling most intimate with each other.

He grinned. "If I am it is because thou hast made me so with thy licentious ways."

Onara arched a slender dark brow. "Oh, so now it's my fault that thou hast become a---."

He stopped the rest of her words with a deep, lingering kiss. He pulled away and looked at her. Her eyes were closed and her lashes were dark wings against her flushed cheeks. She slowly opened her eyes.

"I sometimes wonder," she whispered huskily, "if thou art using the Jedi mind trick on me to make me desire thee so."

Obi-Wan caressed her lower lip with his thumb. "Really, Onara. What a terrible thing to say. And it's against the Jedi Code to use the mind trick in such a way."

She gazed over at him, her eyes smoky and half-lidded. "But thou art no longer a Jedi, my love,"

"That is true but I hope thou wouldst desire me without such chicanery on my part."

Her midnight-dark eyes flared with passion. “Oh, I do desire you, my darling. I do.”

He gently pulled her to her feet. "Then come, love, and prove it to me before the children awaken. You know how early Sari likes to get up."

Onara gave him her hand and when he took it he felt her pulse through her fingers. Her heart was beating as fast as his. He smiled and led her out of the kitchen.

Oh goodness...I'm speechless! I was literally choking back the tears in the beginning - thank goodness it was only dream. Please let that be a dream and not a Jedi premition of the future. I can't take Ben dying again in a fic Arwyn!!!

All that Obi and Onara loving - ahhh... brings a smile to my face and reduces me to a pile of goo!!!! love love I'm going to have such lovely dreams, imagining that I am Onara now.

Thanks for the pm! Have been waiting impatiently to read this. I can't wait to see how it turns out! happy

I never thought that the destruction of the Temple scene could be even more heartbreaking but you made it so. sad How could Anakin murder Obi-Wan's children?!!!

Loved the look at their home life. ROTFL at Obi-Wan and Ben cooking in secret. Although the tension between Onara and her daughter is slightly worrying!

Can't wait to see what happens next! happy

Hi! Thanks so much for the replies. I'm thrilled that all of you are looking forward to reading this. I should say that this is the sequel I had wanted to write three years ago, but realize now that I needed to see the final chapter in the Prequels to really know what to do with this fic and where to go with it. I'm very excited about it and I hope you remain so too. happy

As for posting, at least for now, as I get my bearings, I will be posting once a week. That will be on Sundays. So next post will be up on Sunday, June 19th and Anakin will be featured in that one.

Thanks again, everyone! It really means a lot to me that you guys are willing to put up with me again. batting

Gen Massimo I like the beginning and, of course, I can't wait to read moreeeeeeeeee...
Now I really have to go to sleep...it is 01.23AM this side of the world.

Thanks, GM! Oh, man, how do you manange to stay up so late? shock I'm usually zonked out by 9:00 P.M. happy

Darth Ishtar ::Shudders.:: YOU BETTER MEAN THAT THE DREAM SEQUENCE IS GOING TO BE WHAT DRIVES OBI-WAN TO KEEP ANAKIN AWAY FROM THE DARK SIDE BECAUSE I WAS WICKED CHOKED UP!

Well, I will say that, although for the present, Obi-Wan is telling himself it's only a dream and not some sort of vision or premonition, it will have an influence on what happens later in the fic.

Darth Vander *jaw drops* Awesome beginnning to what I'm sure will be a marvelous fic!

Thanks! I hope it proves to be. happy

However, do take one thing under suggestion, from an avid reader. Please don't kill off Obi's kids.... Again, though, awesome post.... P.S. Thanks for the PM....

Thanks, DV! I will do my best to keep Obi's young ones from harm but there are dangers ahead for them all. The Dark Side is Rising and, as we have seen, it is merciless. sad But, I will do my best.

ForceAchtungBaby Oh goodness...I'm speechless! I was literally choking back the tears in the beginning - thank goodness it was only dream. Please let that be a dream and not a Jedi premition of the future. I can't take Ben dying again in a fic Arwyn!!!

Obi-Wan is doing his best to see it as only a dream, but his love for his children is sort of blinding him but I will say that Ben is safe this time around. Once is enough as it relates to him, I think.

All that Obi and Onara loving - ahhh... brings a smile to my face and reduces me to a pile of goo!!!! I'm going to have such lovely dreams, imagining that I am Onara now.

Glad you liked that little glimpse of what Onara and Obi-Wan's life together has been like the past three years because, well, my Muse and I are getting ready to bring on trouble, trouble, trouble for them both. devil

Sabe I never thought that the destruction of the Temple scene could be even more heartbreaking but you made it so. How could Anakin murder Obi-Wan's children?!!!

That is the reason Obi-Wan, at least for the time being, can only see this as a dream. He just can't comprehend Anakin, who he knew loved Ben and Sari, ever doing such a thing. Who could? I still can't get over the Anakin in ROTS killing younglings!! shock

Loved the look at their home life. ROTFL at Obi-Wan and Ben cooking in secret. Although the tension between Onara and her daughter is slightly worrying

Thanks! As I mentioned earlier I wanted to give some indication of what Obi-Wan, Onara and the children's lives have been like the past three years because with this trip to Courscant, it's all going to change, forever. As for the tension between Onara and Sari, yes, it will cause problems for them both, and others, down the line. sad

Can't wait! worried Not a good dream at all... pay heed to it Obi, but then again I doubt you do since you didn't pay any heed to any Anakin ever had sad

A sequel! I was so lame that I had to read the subject twice to comprehend that this was the sequel- I think I was in shock *grins*

Wonderful job. The dream was chilling. It was interesting to hear Obi-Wan's thoughts about Anakin's dark clothing...he really does look the part of evil. And the part where they began duelling, after Obi-Wan saw Sari and Ben lying there...great.

The scene between Obi-Wan and Onara was also sweet. I like how she can't cook. Can't cook myself...*grins* And Dalen is in the Senate? And they're going to Coruscant? Why do I have this feeling that things aren't going to go as planned...

Thank you for the PM! happy

At first I thought you had really gone and killed the children. sad What a relief it was when I reached the second half and found out it was just a dream, and yet, possibly a vision, if something doesn't change.

I really liked in the original sequel (where it left off...)how Anakin had gone to Ahjane to seek out Obi-Wan when he had felt through their bond that Obi-Wan had been injured. It showed that he still held a familial love and still cared for his former master. I guess I'm just hoping that Palpatine hasn't completely rewired Anakin or drastically changed the way the boy sees things in the past three years.

Great job with this! happy I am looking forward to more!

My, oh my! You certainly jump right in, don’t you? What a great beginning – I’m already hooked even though I foresee heartbreak for Obi-Wan and his loved ones. cry

Although I would love for him to feel complete, it seems right and characteristic that Obi would still miss the life of a Jedi and Anakin in particular. And speaking of Wonder Boy, I’m so anxious to find out he’s doing.

And the kids – we go from one nightmare vision to another! Holy cow! worried

Great post, aw! I can tell this is gonna be another killer story!

Thanks again for the response to the sequel. I hadn't planned to put it up so quickly but the ideas for it just came to me one day almost in a flash and I thought, what the heck, might as well start it. And it might just help keep my mind off what looks to be a sweltering summer coming up this year and me with no A/C at home. sick

Still looking (hoping) to have next post up on Sunday! Been a bit busy at the salt-mines, oh, I mean my job. tired

Kynstar 3 yrs have passed, eh? Poor Anakin... stuck under the tutelege of that other guy. Wonder how he's faired in all that. Guess we'll find out eventually!

Yep, and it's been a looooong three years for Anakin. wink

Not a good dream at all... pay heed to it Obi, but then again I doubt you do since you didn't pay any heed to any Anakin ever had

Initially Obi-Wan will just try to brush it off as a dream, as he did in this post, but time will tell as he is drawn back into the dire and fateful events swirling about the galaxy.

Darshaassant Don't you dare do anything bad to ani! Though him sporting a tatoo or two would be okay....

Well, I will say he's not enjoyed the last three years as much as Obi-Wan has, that's for sure. sad A tattoo? Hmmmmm. Would have to be a secret one though, like his secret love. wink

Alethia The scene between Obi-Wan and Onara was also sweet. I like how she can't cook. Can't cook myself...*grins*

I'm a terrible cook too. LOL! And I was trying to think of a way to show the dynamics among Obi-Wan, Onara and the children as quickly as I could so I thought I'd use Onara's horrible cooking as a way to show that Ben gets along fine with his mother and is very protective of her feelings, he and his father are very close, Sari only really listens to Obi-Wan (sort of tongue ) and she and her mother are having....problems. happy

And Dalen is in the Senate? And they're going to Coruscant? Why do I have this feeling that things aren't going to go as planned...

That's one of the changes from the original. It was Onara who had been elected to the Senate but I realized that Ahjanese culture is so male-dominated that there was no way they would elect a woman to the Senate. Things would not have changed that much in only three years. And since Dalan is no longer married to Onara, it's a way to keep him in the story as he does have a part to play as events unfold. And, you're absolutely right, the trip to Courscant is the BIG turning point in both Onara's and Obi-Wan's lives. The Clone Wars will begin while they are there. sad

Bekah_K I really liked in the original sequel (where it left off...)how Anakin had gone to Ahjane to seek out Obi-Wan when he had felt through their bond that Obi-Wan had been injured. It showed that he still held a familial love and still cared for his former master. I guess I'm just hoping that Palpatine hasn't completely rewired Anakin or drastically changed the way the boy sees things in the past three years.

Anakin's feelings have not changed too much toward Obi-Wan but he's been apart from him for three years and has been under the influence (and during a very formative part of his development as he's a young man now) of both Chancellor Palpatine, Master Nygee and the Jedi Council (whom he has still not forgiven for expelling Obi-Wan). I'm hoping to explore what Anakin's choices will be as a result of not having had Obi-Wan around. Will they be for the better or for the worse? happy

LVK1978 Although I would love for him to feel complete, it seems right and characteristic that Obi would still miss the life of a Jedi and Anakin in particular. And speaking of Wonder Boy, I’m so anxious to find out he’s doing.

Anakin will be featured in the next installment which I am feverishly working on. I have the plot worked out pretty much for the sequel. Just have to do the actual writing. happy As for Obi-Wan, I tried to put myself in his situation or at least look at the situation through his eyes and I came to the conclusion that he was very devoted to the Order for so many years and, athough in my little AU version of things, he does fall in love and as a result is expelled from that very Order, he's also still, in his heart, a Jedi Knight and a servant of the Republic. (And democracy, as he so passionately states in ROTS) And, although Onara has gone out of her way to make him feel as if he's making a difference, in the grander scheme of things he knows he's not. To quote Anakin from ROTS, he wants more. happy

Great post, aw! I can tell this is gonna be another killer story!

I hope it is, For some bizzare reason I feel very strongly about this fic, as it will touch on things that are of great concern to me. The nature of war, the nature of love. Trust, betrayal, hope, despair.

DarthIshtar I know, I know. I'm just as bad with spoilers.

happy

Errine23 Wonderful, wonderful way to begin a new story. I have to admit, my heart was in my throat at the beginning. Sheesh! Glad the babies are fine. LOL.

The scene in ROTS when Obi-Wan and Yoda are in the Jedi Temple after the Purge was so poignant and affected me so deeply I knew I had to write about it and the idea of Obi-Wan dreaming that his own children were part of that slaughter just sorta popped in my head and I decided to go with it, though it was a hard scene for me to write. sad

I can't wait to see them go to the Jedi Temple.

I'm sure someone will paying a visit to the Temple. wink

JediMaster Jen Wow!! You got this up faster than I thought you would.

Yeah, faster than I thought I would too! I must be insane to have not taken a longer break but the fic wouldn't leave me alone. grin

So, Obi and Onara are living in sin, huh?

Well, to quote the infamous but inevitabley quotable Jar-Jar Binks, "Yousa might be saying that". grin But, seriously, I prefer to think of them as living in love. I debated how to handle that (personally I have no qualms about such things but I know some people do) but neither one of them wants to deprive Ben of his heritage to become the Dynast of Onara's province and the Assembly has made it very clear that if Onara marries without their permission that is what they will do. But I couldn't imagine her and Obi-Wan, well, being chaste with each other for three loooooong years either. I know I couldn't if I had a cetain Jedi Knight living in my house. mischief
