	Title: Reunited: Anakin’s Journey in the Afterlife Author(s): dtdang2 Timeframe: Post ROTJ Characters: Anakin, Padme, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Luke, Leia Genre: Romance, Angst, Keywords: Afterlife, Anakin, Padme Summary: This story takes place after Vader’s death, and details his journey of becoming a Force ghost and ultimately finding the love of his life. Notes: Special thanks to Jazz for beta reading this story. Disclaimers: All Characters belong to George Lucas. REUNITED Chapter 1: Anakin's Death Vader let out a sigh of relief under his mask when he realized that he had fulfilled his destiny by killing the Sith Lord. He smiled knowing that his son was alive and that Luke loved him enough to help him drive away the darkness that had enshrouded him for so long. His son made him realize his potential for good, that he still had love in his heart. Throwing Palpatine down the shaft and absorbing the Force lightening made Vader very weak, and his feet buckled underneath him. He had a difficult time breathing, even with his respirator. Laying on the floor of the docking bay aboard the Death Star with Luke by his side, he whispered, “Luke, help me take this mask off.” Vader did not want his son’s last image of him as the villain in the black suit. He wanted to take off the mask that had imprisoned his body and his soul. He wanted Luke to see him as his Father, a man who once defied all rules in the name of love, only to have it cruelly taken away. Now, he was miraculously given a second chance to love again. “But you'll die” was Luke’s impassioned cry. “ Nothing can stop that now. Just for once...let me look on you with my own eyes.” Vader felt Luke slowly removing the mask from his face. His face was scarred and pale. His breathing was ragged, and he struggled to keep his eyes open. Vader smiled as he gazed upon his son’s face. He was satisfied that he was able to see his son without that wretched mask distorting his view of the world. He can now die a happy man knowing that his son loved him, and had forgiven him for his atrocious sins. Vader regretted that he could not personally ask his daughter for forgiveness. “Now...go, my son. Leave me.” ”No. You're coming with me. I can't leave you here. I've got to save you,” was Luke’s reply. ”You already have, Luke. You were right about me. Tell your sister...you were right.” He longed for the life that could have been had he not listened to Palpatine’s lies. He had an image of Padme holding the twins lovingly, with him in the picture as a proud Father protecting his family instead of destroying it. In the distant, Vader heard Luke’s voice, “Father... I won't leave you.” Anakin closed his eyes. He remembered his youth on Tatooine, playing in the desert sand. He remembered his loving mother, Shmi and how she used to shower him with hugs and kisses. And this memory triggered a flood of other memories with it. He had memories of honor, friendship, and bravery, fighting alongside his Jedi Brothers. He remembered his dear wife...her warm smile and twinkling eyes brighter and more beautiful than any star he’d ever seen. He remembered the scent of his wife’s hair, which smelled like a bouquet of wildflowers. He thought back on his time in Naboo, in the meadows, spending time with Padme. They were so young and in love, and for that brief moment in time, they did not have the weight of the galaxy resting upon their shoulders. Right on that meadow, where all the spring flowers were budding from the ground, was where their love grew. These were the happiest moments of his life. A warm blackness enveloped over him, but it was a peaceful feeling, non-threatening, calming, and serene. He heard thunder, then the soft splatter of spring rain, which blended into a quiet humming all about him, a sound that he never heard before, soft, lyrical, musical, but without a melody. As Anakin took his last breath, he felt his soul release from his maimed body. He floated up, and as he looked down, he saw his son kneeling next to his body, crying, then dragging his black armor to a shuttle. Anakin felt disconnected to the world below him and what was happening there. The higher he floated, the more peace and tranquility he felt. His soul took on a figureless, massless shape. The humming he heard became louder to him. He felt himself dispersing, his memories fading away; his last thought was of the love he and Padme shared, and it filled his heart. 	Hi everyone! Thanks for your comments. This is my first fanfic. I have this story all mapped out, but I still need to send some of the chapters to my beta reader. 	i also want anakin to have a decent afterlife compared to the miserable life he had but if he becomes one with the force as you said then he will not meet padme or obi wan or his jedi friends.please answer me that doubt and take me out of my burden. please dont make anakin fade away without keeping his identity,i wanna see him talking to obi,padme and the jedi,please?

	Here's the next chapter. Please review. Hope you guys like it! ____________________________________________________________________ Chapter 2: Blue Ghosts “Concentrate, Anakin. Use the Force to help you.” Anakin became more aware of his surroundings. The black warmth that he felt was still there, but he saw a blue glow just beyond. The humming was still present, but not as loud. “Release yourself to the Force, Anakin, but keep your consciousness.” Anakin struggled not to let go of his thoughts. It would be so easy just to melt away and become one with the universe again. He had to concentrate very hard to remember who he was. He focused on Padme’s smile. He thought of how much he loved her, how happy she had made him during their brief marriage. His love for her and her love for him was the only thing that kept him from the oblivion. Anakin’s thoughts became more clear. He used the Force to pull the molecules in his body together. He opened his eyes wider, trying to see that blue light just beyond his reach. He felt his body congealing once again; he was no longer formless, but instead had been restored to his youthful physique. He had his lean and muscular form; he wiggled his fingers and toes, and was glad that they were all there again. “Anakin, come to us,” he heard his name being called from the blue light. He pushed his way through the soothing black warmth that was surrounding him, pushing forward to get to that ethereal glow. He concentrated very hard, and was finally able to break free from the warm blackness. As he moved towards the blue light, the lyrical humming sounded less loudly in his ears. As he reached the blue light, Anakin doubled back in surprise. Before him stood his Jedi masters…Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Qui-Gon Jinn. He felt love emanating from them, even though he had betrayed them all. Anakin felt shame and humility as he stood before them. When Anakin was able to speak, he said, “Please forgive me, Jedi Masters.” “Forgiven you, we have,” was the reply from Yoda. Obi-Wan continued, “That has been done, Anakin, that’s why you are here. You were seduced to the dark side, but found your way back again. You were the Chosen One, destined to kill the Sith Lord to bring balance back to the Force. Hope and peace has been restored.” Relieved for his forgiveness, Anakin said, “Thank You, Master, for forgiving me of all the sins that I have committed against you, the Jedi Order, and humanity. I can’t believe that I can stand here before you and receive this absolution. I don’t understand how it is possible that I am here?” Obi Wan answered him, and said, “Once you die, your soul, your spirit, your energy becomes One with the Force. That is the beautiful humming you hear around you.” Qui-Gon continued his explanation, “The Sith want immortality, but are unable to achieve it. Eternal life can be found by giving, not taking. Compassion, love, and the release of self is the path to eternal life, and it is the answer to the darkness. It cannot be granted Anakin, it can only be taught.” "Become one with the Force, yet influence still to have . . ." Yoda continued. "A power greater than all, it is." Master Qui-Gon further explained, “Those who are Force sensitive can train themselves to retain consciousness and preserve their individuality after death. I was able to learn that secret from the Ancient Order of the Whills, and I was able to impart that knowledge to Yoda and Obi-Wan. Anakin, because you were born of the Force, this power comes more naturally for you. We were able to point your mind in the right direction, but you pulled through with your own convictions, through your selflessness, and through the love that you still have in your heart.” Obi-Wan told Anakin, “Yoda and I often visited Luke in his time of need. We were able to guide him so that he could guide you back to the light. Anakin, you now have the power to guide Luke through life also. We will teach you how to visit your son. With time, even your daughter.” Anakin was dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe the chain of events that had occurred since his death. He felt so much relief, so much humility, and so much hope. He can now right the wrongs for his children. He could come back and personally apologize to his family, and he could let them know that their parents had loved them very much. “Come, Anakin, there is something that we must do.” Anakin followed the lead of Obi-Wan and Yoda. It was a strange feeling, floating around. It would take him a while to get used to this. Obi-Wan and Yoda took him on a journey through a dark portal. Anakin could see the flickering of firelight at the end of the tunnel. He heard music, laughter, and cheering. It was a big celebration, and as he looked on, he saw that it was his funeral. Anakin thought to himself, What kind of monster was I that people are rejoicing at my death? He saw the ominous black suit that had been his prison licked with flames. Anakin was relieved that the Vader part of his existence was over. Why was he so hungry for power? He had given up all that he held dear and cherished for twenty five very lonely and maddening years. Anakin saw a figure approaching them. It was Luke. Anakin couldn’t suppress a smile when he saw his son. He was so proud, so thankful that Luke had saved him. Luke looked straight at them. His anguished face became relaxed and Luke smiled back at them. After a few cherished moments of seeing his son, a woman came up to Luke. Leia, my beautiful daughter. You have your mother’s eyes, he thought. Leia didn’t appear to notice them, and brought Luke back to the celebration. Anakin was sorry that he wasn’t able to spend any quality time with her. 	Oh, interesting! I like how he got to meet everyone at the end. And I hope too that Padmé and his reunion will take place soon. It must have been a hard blow to see people rejoicing after his death. Yes, he was aware that he had done horrible things. But to see people celebrating I think in a way was rubbing salt in the wound. Then again, I think it was also a great way to teach him a lesson... Not only did Luke guide him from the Darkside, he made it possible for Anakin to achieve immortality by teaching him compassion and selflessness, and reminding him that he still had love in his heart. lightsaver: Patience, patience. Padme's turn is coming, but he has to find her first!!! Alethia: Yes, he got off easy with Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon, but he should repent a little bit.
