	Secrets And Lies Authors Notes: Since watching the movie I have had this AU stuck in my head and as I'm reading the book, I can't seem to excape it so I'm going to attempt to write it. Prologue Deep in our pasts, we all have our secrets. Every single person walking around, every single person who scares you, every single person that shouts, they have a fear that the secret that seems so dark will be found out from the most simple things, a child wondering if it'll be found out that they hid they're vegetables rather than ate them to someone who has taken the life of another, they all fear it will all come out in a blaze and it will be the end of the universe as we know it. It is something to be accepted, although she rarely just accept things as they are. Rules are made to be broken as often as they are to be kept. And I wonder if secrets are why everyone is so wrapped up in themselves these days that they can't see other peoples. And perhaps not. Some secrets aren't always in the past. Some happen as soon as moments ago. And as the ship touches down on Coruscant, she can't help but see the devastation that secrets and lies have brought us to. And now she is one of them, one of those people that have a secret too large to be told. And as she leaves the ship for the councils chambers, she can't help but wonder. 	Authors Notes: I have been away frm fic writing for over a year now and it's so nice to get such a warm welcome. And of course, I remember AQ from Negotiations with Destiny. Either way, thank you to everyone. Part One: Welcome Back "...And unfortunately, things have not improved. In fact, they have worsened." The words echoed in her head as she walked out of the Council's Chambers, caught in her own thoughts. It wasn't what she had wanted to hear; not that she had expected the war to be over and the Separatists to have come and said they're very sorry but it wasn't good news at all. She thought about seeing her old Padawan, but it was only fleeting. He was most likely on a mission of some sort. Ferus was a talented boy - young man - and they wouldn't waste him. Besides, someone was calling her name. "Credit for your thoughts?" She turned and smiled, an act that came so easily. "Bant." She embraced the Mon Calamari with a true happiness. You would think that she would know her by first name by now but she had always been Bant. "You seemed very deep." "In what?" There was a mischievous edge to Bants voice, "Knowing you? Trouble." She smiled again, it was nice, familiar. "Ah. Yes." she shrugs, "I've just been briefed." "Well, that can't spare anyone these days." "I know." The young woman stared at the ground, "Ferus?" "Out on a mission." She nodded, "I haven't seen him." "Well, you haven't seen me either, not really." Bant said. "Not since Geonosis." "And my legendary piloting abilities." She couldn't keep the face straight and they both laughed in an easy comradery. "Obi-Wan?" "He's on the Outer Rims, he left shortly before your sabbatical." Bant said. "So - why did you go on sabbatical?" "I had some things to sort out." "I'm sure you did." She turned around, "What the-" There was a blaze in the sky, a lit with red flame and debris. Her mouth lay open in shock and though she didn't look to Bant, she had the feeling the Healer was feeling the same astonishment. She pressed her hand to the wall to get a better look, amazed by whatever that thing was. She noticed that some of the Padawans were whispering, which only increased by Master Windu and Master Yoda seemingly oblivious to it. They were never oblivious: it was not the council's way to just ignore things. Unless it is patience for a solution to present itself She was never very good at that. Instead, she abandoned Bant taking off at a sprint. Naturally curious and independent, this didn't surprise her old friend as she watched her run out of the ziggurat to watch the blaze as it came crashing down. Sighing, she shook her head. Well, who else was it going to be? "What have you gotten yourself into now?" She said to herself. --- "Master Tachi." She smiled and bowed, approaching the odd group on the landing platform. One rather old man, one that was older than he looked and one that was younger than he did. And of course, a couple of Jedi masters. It took a bit of bravery (or perhaps, it was stupidity) to approach the small group. After all, this was the Head of the Jedi order and his almost constant companion, the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic but none of these were why she was here. She politely waited as the Chancellor left and the Masters fell back, knowing that Obi-Wan would leave with them soon, as Anakin was already heading to his own reception. "Always make an entrance, don't you?" But she was smiling. For that matter, so was he. "Siri," he said taking her hand in his. "It's good to see you." "Well, the giant blaze was hard to miss." This was easy. They could be twelve again and could be arguing about droids, it was that simple. When was it ever that simple? "Not my fault." Obi-Wan smirked. "All Anakins doing, I assure you." "Excuses, excuses." Siri shrugged. "Quite." He said. "Where have you been?" "Needed to sort some things out." Siri said, in a resolved tone. "I - I did something I have wanted to do for some time." "Yes?" "Nothing quite so grand as you, if I heard correctly." Siri asked. "Dooku is dead, then?" "Indeed." He said, in the tone of a proud parent. "Anakin again?" She asked, curious of his tone. "Yes." Obi-Wan said. "I was..." He felt the drying blood on his head, "Indisposed of." "Again?" "Yes, Siri, again." He frowned. Siri only smiled, "Well, I guess this is the best bid for peace, then." "No, I don't think the Chancellor will allow that." Obi-Wan said. "Be mindful of your jealousy, Obi-Wan. It is of the darkside." Siri then made a face, "And I now sound like a Master. Wonderful(!)" "You had a Padawan, didn't you?" Obi-Wan asked. "I did." She nodded. "I did at that." "Sometimes it is lonely without them." He admitted. "How would you know?" Siri asked. "You two are practically inseparable." "Well, we-" "No well about it!" Siri said. "The great Hero's of the Republic." "No, that would be Anakin." "He's the poster boy-" "Poster Man, apparently." "- you're the brain." Siri rolled her eyes. "The Republic is doomed." "Thank you." Obi-Wan said. "But I believe my presence is required elsewhere." Siri nodded, giving him a half salute. "Go meet the fans and don't forget the little people now you're famous." "It's the Jedi Council, Siri!" She just laughed as he started after the already departing Masters. She smiled and turned around to look at him, "Obi-Wan?" She called back to him. He looked around to face her with a 'what-now' expression. "Welcome back." --- "You too, Siri." Obi-Wan said as he left to give his informal report to the council. Anakin had other things to tend to, things he should not know about and things he was perfectly happy to pretend that he did not know about. He had been surprised to see Siri. He had not seen her since before he had gone to the Outer Rim and now she was back and she seemed different. How, he could not but his finger on. But different, certainly. He looked back at the figure on the platform before turning his mind to darker things, things of a more disturbing nature. There was still a sith out there, a cyborg general and separatists threatening the lives of the republic and the peace of it's people. 	Short post. It didn't really fit with the next one so this one stands alone. New Life and Death Through many years of getting up early, Padme had become accostumed to it. Despite what people may think, she was also accustomed to making her own coffee, as her handmaidens were no where to be found at this early hour. She pushed her hair back, making coffee for herself and Anakin, knowing he had been kept up with troubling nightmares of her own death. But she was not worried. He was always there to save her, wasn't he? She turned around, surprised to see her husband standing there as she had left him fast asleep in thier bed. But there he stood, blurry eyed and obviously dwelling on the dreams. Or perhaps the war. It would have been either. It may have been the beginning of this war that had cemented thier love but now all she wanted was it to end, because it was tearing them apart, tearing the Republic they served apart. "I thought you were asleep." She smiled warmly, setting own the coffe. "Elle won't be in for a few hours so perhaps-" "I have to go." She smiled, softly, yet disappointed. "The Temple?" Anakin nodded, "Yes. I have to give a report." "Of course," Padme said. "Ever the hero." Or not. He did look troubled but then, who didn't these days? If only they could negotiate the end, stop the war, capture Grievous and then what? Live happily ever after? Perhaps she was loves fool but for now, she did not want to think what thier child would bring. Nor the world it would be born into if something was not done. "Will you leave?" She was pulled from her reverie by blue eyes and a wanting stare. "What?" "Last night." Anakin said. "You talked of leaving Coruscant. Will you?" Padme sighed, "I am unsure, Ani. I have spoken with my mother about having the child back home and -" "Naboo?" "Yes," She smiled. "I know you love it." "It's a good place to bring up a child." "Our child," Padme said, guiding his hand to her stomach. "And he would love it." "She." "You don't know that," Padme said. "I don't?" He asked "No force powers!" She said, hitting his arm playfully. Anakin laughed, "No, but we will have to face that possibility." "That you'll use force powers on our son?" Padme asked. "That our daughter will be force sensitive." "Is it likely?" "I don't know." Anakin said. "I don't know of this happening before." "Well, you are an exception to most rules." Padme said. Anakin looked pained. "I would take you to Naboo if it was what you wanted." "And how would you explain it?" Padme said. "No. Stay here. I will have the child there and then return." "If it's safe." Anakin said. "Oh, Ani." Padme said, gravely. "No where is safe. 	Who finished her post early? I did! <b>Riddles in the Dark</b> "Am I disturbing you?" Obi-Wan looked up to see Siri standing there, in the doorway. "Siri. Of course not, come in." Siri came into Obi-Wan's quarters, sitting on the couch with rakish smile. "Unpacking?" Obi-Wan nodded, sitting across from her. "You as well?" He asked. She nodded, "Home, sweet home." "It is nice to be here." "If only it were under more pleasant circumstances." "Ah. Yes." There was a moment of silence between two people that grown up around each other and knew that things had not been this bad for a long, long time. Obi-Wan fingered his head gently, where it had been struck against the wall, a reminder that this wasn't over. Siri looked at him quizzically, "Although I hear we are a sith lord down. It's an achievement." "A small victory," Obi-Wan acknowledged. "But a welcome one." The female jedi nodded in agreement, "There are no small victories." "And now you sound like a master," Obi-Wan smiled fondly. She made a face, "I suppose I do, don't I? It's almost like we have exchanged places." "Exchanged...?" "Oh, you know." Siri said, with a spark in her eyes. "I used to be the one whispered about, the girl who left, the girl who became a fearless pirate -" "- I don't recall you ever being called fearless-" Obi-Wan interrupted. "- while you have been the perfect Jedi since Melida/Daan. Now all I hear is whispers of 'sith killer' everywhere -" "- They have been saying it for years - " " - And I am the perfect little master, which should be mistress in all honesty." She finished. "I do wish you wouldn't interrupt." " Yes, yes, I do apoligise." Obi-Wan said. "But there shouldn't be whispers about me. I only did it once." "But Dooku -" "- Was all Anakins doing," He shrugged. "I was....indisposed." She smiled lightly, "Meaning you were flat on your back?" Obi-Wan sighed, "Yes, Siri. I was indisposed." "Excuses, excuses, Obi-Wan." Siri grinned. "I shall have to go back to your old nickname." "Don't you dare!" He said. "What?" Siri said. "I thought you said you had no secrets." There was a moment were he looked uncomfortable, "Obviously, I have some." "Yes." She said, softly. "You do at that." The moment was shattered by the door opening, as both Jedi stood and a third, rather blurry eyed entered the room and gave what may have been a bashful smile if not for the sadness that sudenly nvaded the room. "I'm sorry, Master, I didn't realise you had company -" Anakin said, moving to retreat. There was always a first time. "Since when has Siri been company," He remarked dryly, to recieve an irratated hit on the arm from her. "I was just leaving anyway." Siri said. "Congratulations, by the way." "For what?" He asked quietly. "Well, one less bad guy." He nodded and where she expected some quick witted quip, there was none. "I'll leave you to it." Siri sighed, leaving the room with a haste that was probably unncessary. But it seemed like there were words that were private between them about to be spoken and she didn't want to intrude. Even though she had come close to talking about....well, she supposed it would wait. It always did, didn't it? --- "You look terrible," Obi-Wan said, moving to the couch beside his old Padawan. "You're no prize yourself," Anakin said, but it lacked the usual vigour. "Are you ill?" "No." "Well, then." Obi-Wan said. "What is the matter?" "Dreams." Anakin said, rubbing temples. "Nightmares." "About your mother, again?" Obi-Wan asked. "I thought they had stopped." "They have." He said, voice dropping to a hoarse whisper. "They're about someone else." "But the same kind?" He nodded somberly, "Pain. Dying." "Someone you care for?" Anakins' lips persed, and he nodded. " Yes." "It could have been a dream," Obi-Wan offered. "How can you say that?" Anakin flared, standing up. "After-" He stopped and swallowed hard. Obi-Wan put his hand on Anakins shoulder, "Not every dream is a premonition, Anakin." "I know the difference." Anakin said, his eyes glazed with something akin to anger and pain. "They are of suffering, Master. It's there everytime I sleep, everytime I shut my eyes." He looked down, "I can't let it happen again." "It won't." Obi-Wan said. "Have you made contact with...the person?" He nodded. "They are well?" Again, he nodded. "Then we only need to stop these dreams." Obi-Wan said. "You make it sound so easy." Anakin said, softly. "It can be," Obi-Wan said. "Why don't you speak with Master Yoda?" Anakin snorted, "Because he hates me." "Master Yoda doesn't hate anything." Obi-Wan chided. "Then he 'extemely dislikes' me." "But still, he might be able to help." "Maybe." "No maybe about it." Obi-Wan said. "And if it helps, isn't it worth swallowing your pride and asking for help?" For her, Anakin thought. For Padme. "Yes." He said. 	I love that line in your signature. I'm a huge Charmed fan and that episode was one of my favorites. Have it on DVD and relish watching it again and again. Chris was such a cool character... Anyway, interesting fic. You have this subdued tone going and I like how it's almost watching everything through glass. Or at least that's how I perceive it. 	Ah, well, I write Bianca an unbelievble amount and have written so much C/B. They are my OTP and I adore them both. I missed Chris sorely this season.
