Hello everyone, I hope everybody likes this.
Title: An Honest Clone's Work.
Author: Aiden_Sanic
Characters: Clones, specifically JI-M7
Genre: Action
Summary: A clone describes his moments in the apocolyptic Battle of Courascant
Notes: This is a response to the OC challenge # 4 in which an OC character describes what they saw during a saga event. I hope they like it.
" Commander Oddball this is JI-M7, I need cover fire!" I yelled into my intercom. My ARC-170 fighter was being hammered by the fire of 2 tri-fighter droids.
" I got em sir!" My back gunner yelled as he fired the rear gun onto the souless machines with a ominous machine-like prescicion. Blue bolts of justice ripped the tri-droids apart.
" This is Oddball, it seems you have everything under contol there don't you?"
" It seems so commander, JI-M7 over and ou-"
A signal came onto my display board, General Skywalker and Kenobi had just came out of hyperspace, and were heading toward the Invisible Hand. They needed assistance.
" Commander, it seems-"
" Already ahead of you, bring the squadron to me, we're going to help some jedi."
I pushed the recall button on my display board, 7 of the ARC-170 fighters formed behind Oddball's fighter. Including myself and Oddball, there were 9 fighters of the original squadron of 12. Two of our noble brothers had fallen to turbo laser fire. The other was, killed but could of been saved.
I blinked back a sort of mist that came to my eyes, it happened everytime I thought of a brother that could of been rescued or saved. I shook the mist away as Oddball's com crakled in our speaker helmet.
" Lock all X-foils in attack position."
I signaled to my middle gunner who sat between myself and my rear gunner. He pushed a panel on his display board, and the 6 wings that lay dormant suddenly unfolded, unleashing the deadly firepower of the ARC-170's.
" Fighters coming in!" ARC-3 said as a wall of Vulture Droids came speeding towards us.
" This is where the fun begins," I heard General Skywalker say to us.
I couldn't agree more I thought.
Quicker than the clone eye could follow, the droids opened fire. I grasped onto the fire controls and let a barrage of laser bolts fly from the six wings. Blue bolts colided into the indigo-shapes that were the droids, as metal was stripped from metal, and energy dissintigrated droid AI cores.
Vulture droids red laser fire ripped one of my fellow brothers apart, as one hit a wing, then the front cockpit as it exploded in a fireball of metal, laserfire.... and flesh.
The main group broke up as General Skywalker and Kenobi moved on, we didn't follow, our only job was to distract the fighters. Which we did splendidly.
The remaining 15 vulture droids converged on our remaining 8.
" Your orders Commander?" I inquiered into the com.
" Do what every brother in the Republic does best, die well."
" It will be done sir," We all replied into the com.
The circle of droids came in on us with blinding speed, I could see their missle tubes heat up as the brought concussion missle into view. We accelerated towards them, our own little circle of fighters expanding to engage our Machine adversaries.
" Launch now!" I said to my middle gunner.
At once, 2 proton torpedoes shot out of the belly of our fighter towards two of the approaching Vulture droids. At once, I pressed the fire controls hard, as 4 sets of six blue lasers fired upon the droids. All of them missed.
But that was the point.
The droids didn't open fire, to busy setting their AI core to dodge incoming fire, as the two torpedoes smashed head-on into them. Shrapnel and fire flew from the explosion, the fire quickly disaperaed as vacuum turned it into darkness.
I looked about my fellow brothers, they had all completed their objective. Just in time too, a mass wall of Tri-Fighter droids were heading at us.
We knew we were outnumbered, outgunned, and outmatched, but numbers never ment much to us clones.
Lasers hammered into my ship, blowing a wing off. Other lasers destroyed part of our squadron, proton torpedoes ripped Tri-droids apart. I wasn't about to let go of the battle just yet. Sending blue lasers into an incoming Tri-droid and blasting it into scrap, buzz droids sailed from the wreckage and were about to colide with my ship had I not blasted them into dust. The wall of Tri-Droids was thinnning, but our sqaudron was down to 3.
" Commander, I still count about 30 of these Tir-fighter droids, they could cause some damage to our cruisers if there fire is concentrated and their buzz droids are concentrated in one area. What should we do?"
We kept firing at the mass wall still heading towards us, our shields were set to full power in the front and our lasers were starting to overheat. The droids just kept coming.
30, 28, 26, 23. Still too many.
" Overheat those lasers to full soldier, and engage the proton torpedos but do not fire. Just keep overheating those lasers, engage torpedos on my mark."
If those lasers overheat, that will make the torpedos explo-
It dawned on me right there that that was the point, to go in a blaze so big it would destroy all the Tri-droids.
We converged into a large triangle formation, shooting our lasers to full strength. The overheat meter started to rise.
" I'm setting the distance to Tri-Droid impact now.... 300 meters and counting."
The overheat bar rose higher,
" 250 meters and counting."
Out of the corner of my eye I noticed two jedi Starfighters make their way towards the
Invisible Hands hanger bay.
" 200 meters and counting, overheat nearing critical condition"
One Jedi starfighter started to bump against the other starfighter. What the hell is he doing?
" 150 meters and counting"
The same fighter fired a pair of gold lasers that made the shield wall go down, allowing the two to fly inside. The blast door started to close...
" 100 meters, engage proton torpedoes!"
Oddball, myself, and a fellow brother fired our protons towards the wall of fighters, As soon as they fired out, the wings of our fighters exploded due to overheat. The backgunners seat burst into flames killing him instantly. As I was sucked out of the back of my seat, and into space, the cold vaccum killing me, and in the split second before the explosion of our ARC-170's burned us away. One thought sprung in my mind as the wall of Tri-Droid flame came at me.
Kenobi and Skywalker made it.....
Mission Accomplished.

Interesting to see the battle from a clone's point of view

Wow - the end was chilling. Sucked out into vacuum... You definitely captured the mindset of a clone. Good job!

I hate how the clons are treated as disposable

" Do what every brother in the Republic does best, die well."
That is so sad. To live only a quarter life the way they do is bad enough and to be so disrespectfully treated because of it. That was quite wonderfully done, excellnet space battle description.

Still crazy after all these years.

Wandering Shadow: It's always best to hear a tale of battle from a soldiers eyes.
Artanis: Why thank you very much.
Emimar: I'm glad you enjoyed it fellow writer.
Peagis: Well, there are 1.2 million clones altogether in the Clone Wars. I would be surprised if not one clone was treated like canon fodder. But yes, indeed it is sad.
Healer Leona: Well a soldiers life expectancy can be short, but it is very tragic.
. Still glad you enjoyed it though.
