This thread serves as both a place to view the rules for the forum (adapted from The Senate) as well as a place to discuss various improvements to the forum. Enjoy! The Saga Forum. Welcome to The Saga Forum! Saga Forum Index Thread You may be asking yourself what this forum is all about. Well, that's what this thread is for, to answer your questions regarding this forum, and to lay down some specific guidelines and rules. First off, how does this forum differ from Star Wars Community? This is a Saga discussion forum, not an anything goes forum. This forum is designed specifically to for in-depth discussions that encompass the entire Star Wars saga, which are often drowned out in the SWC forum. This forum is NOT for gaming threads (like trivia treads, survivor threads, ect), line-by-line threads, movie sequel threads, Draft threads and social threads/groups. This forum is only for discussion. What kind of discussions are allowed? This forum is designed for inter-Trilogy discussion. For topics that cross the boundary between Original Trilogy, and Prequel Trilogy. We have forums for Prequel Trilogy discussion as well as Original Trilogy. Threads confined to either one, should be posted there. What about the Expanded Universe? As with the other Movie Forums, the use of EU is restricted. It can be presented as a possibility. One option out of many. It is not to be presented as an absolute, or fact that cannot be argued against. When presenting an EU argument, it is considered good manners to point out that you are putting forth an EU commentary. Additionally, there will be no debates about whether the EU is canon. These "Canon Wars" will not be tolerated in the slightest. Are any of the rules different? The rules aren't different to the other movie forums. Since the scope of this forum is very limited, the modding is very strict. As with the other Movie Forums, the use of EU is restricted. It can be presented as a possibility. One option out of many. It is not to be presented as an absolute, or fact that cannot be argued against. When presenting an EU argument, it is considered good manners to point out that you are putting forth an EU commentary. It is imperative that the rules be followed for this forum to work properly, thus and infractions will be dealt with swiftly and sternly. If you're not sure if what you're about to post will be OK, do NOT post it. Don't risk it. Flaming, trolling, antagonizing, being abusive, threatening, or being problematic will not be tolerated in the slightest. One final note: This board is here for your enjoyment, but if you are going to participate, it is critical that you observe the rules and spirit of the forum. All administrative decisions regarding whether or not a post is inappropriate in nature or in tone are left to the moderators' discretion. If any moderator deems a post offensive, antagonistic, or generally unacceptable or inappropriate, he or she will remove the post. The Moderators are under no obligation to explain the removal, and it is completely their call. Consider this: 1. Posts of a condescending nature will get you banned as quickly as swearing or trolling. There will be respect in here or you will leave. 2. If you have any problem with a fellow poster, send a PM and a link to one of the forum mods listed in the header bar (or another mod if they're not around). The problem will be taken care of ASAP. Don't respond to a flame or bait. Do not let yourself be goaded into action. This applies to the forum as a whole. Set an example for the newbies that stream in every day. 3. Got a problem with a user or a thread? PM a mod. You are as responsible for this forum as your fellow user and forum moderators. That's what makes this place unique. 4. No "What if...?" Threads - those sort of threads are just idle discussion with no true basis in fact, only wild opinion and hypothesis. 5. No spam. Any message posted that clearly contributes nothing to a discussion (i.e. "this thread/person is stupid") may be considered spam. 6. No "PT is better than OT" or "OT is better than the PT" threads. No gusher/basher threads in the forum allowed. 7. No Sequel Threads or any threads that deal with events or stories NOT PRESENTED BY THE MOVIES. 8. Remember, attack the argument, NEVER the user. Keep this civilized. If you disagree with somebody, RESPECTFULLY disagree with the argument and counter that argument with another argument. If you do not follow this, you will be banned. The Three Strikes Policy As originally posted by Errant_Venture in the CT forum. In accordance with the CT focus group on Canon wars, the Mods and the group designed a series of protocols designated to put a stop or at least limit the influence of canon wars. What has and is going into place is a three-strike policy. The policy is meant for any user who purposefully flames, baits, trolls in an already established "canon thread" or has the plans to create a new "war". The first two strikes are generally warning strikes of little significance, while the third strike invokes the ban. We have the three-strike policy to enable mods to "punish" posters for an offense that is not yet banworthy. However, if a user accumulates enough (3) un-banworthy posts, then that user is banned for a 24 hour time period. Once the ban has been served, the user is put on the 2-strike system, which is one warning and then a ban. The ban time is then doubled and this will repeat until the user is perm-banned. There will be a parole board established after six months of being on the two-strike system. The parole board will review the user's activity over the past six months and if an improvement has been seen, then that user may go back to the three-strike system. Do note that the user and not the mods bring up this parole board. Also, note that the board reserves the right to not examine the case and even to do a parole on their own whim. -Purists: Do not reject a theory simply because it is EU. Accept it as part of the realm of possibilities out there. For LFL the EU is canon, so arguing that it is not is moot. No bashing the EU in any way. -EUers: Don't state EU as fact. EU is not necessarily canon in this boards. The EU is just part of many possibilities. We want this forum to be full of discussions. Stating that the EU is the end all of possibilities really kills the discussion. -Both Sides: Be respectful. Incitations to a Canon War will not be tolerated.
