First Impressions of the JC
I have a question for both new members and older ones.
What were your initial impressions of the JC?

I was actually pretty impressed by the amount of organization and work that went on here. It's a huge site, but I think the amount of work people put into it makes others feel welcome and much less intimidated.
I still feel that way, actually.

RE: First Impressions of the JC
Oh, interesting question.
I thought the JC was just funny at first.
I came here through some links on TFN, they promoted some classic JC threads like Darth Holliday's "Exploited Universe" on the Episode II news page.
I enjoyed them a lot, but to be honest, it took me a while to realize that there was more than just these threads.
(Hey, my english was
really
bad, and I had never been to a message board before.
)
Anyway, then I finally clicked the right links, and discovered the rest of the boards.
And enjoyed them ever since.

I thought it was really big, and everybody seemed to know everything about everything, and I had just seen the OT a couple of times. It was also my first experience of a message board, so I didn't get a hang of the social stuff until 2000!

At first, I thought it was a large group of mature people discussing the Star Wars films.
Boy, was I wrong.

It was overwhelming at first. Still is to an extent, but much more understandable now.

More fortunate people than I.
Of course at this point I was only considering the size of their........

RE: First Impressions of the JC
The time I registered I was listening to a song, and when I picked my icon, this song was playing
"A big 'ol doll fell out of a window"
"Its a wonder his head did not split"
"But he was lucky, because he fell in a big barrel of shhhhhh"
"aaaavviing cream, keep yourself clean"
Something like that, I can't remember, but when ever I go pick a new icon, that song ALWAYS gets stuck in my head.

I came here first on the fanfic boards ... and I remember thinking that most people here were crazy in some way or another, so I would fit right in.

As I recall, my first impression was something along the lines of "This is huge and I really have nothing to say." So I left for a year without ever posting.
Amazing.

RE: First Impressions of the JC
Hmm...I started out in the Literature boards, so for a while I felt a bit intimidated since I don't analyze books as much as some people do. [face_shocked]
Then I found the YJCC and Phoenix FanForce boards... [face_shocked]
...and I got over being intimidated.

I thought it was huge (but well-organized) and that YJCC would always be too fast a forum for me to keep up with.

RE: First Impressions of the JC
I was surprised by the number of boards and active posters the JC has. I've visited TFN for a long time, but I never thought to look around the message boards even though I was aware of their presence. And I thought, and still think, that it has an very strong sense of community and the administration must be very committed to be able to keep this place as clean as it is. I was also impressed by the amount of discussion that is actually coherent and bordering on intelligent, for a message board... although I enjoyed JCers' wilder antics as well. I was especially surprised when Rick McCallum first told me he loved me, and I remember blinking at the screen a few times. I have now come to accept it... I love you too, Rick!
