Though I hate forwards and chew out the peopel who will send me thousands of forwards but not taket he time to write me a decent email. 	I'm in the mood to post what "Urban Legends" type of Spam I have for the rest of this week as well as maybe one or two "virus" warnings, so these may seem a little boring to some while others may remember them. And I'm not sure as to whether or not these are "true" and "factual" or a bunch of "BS." Here's your "Daily Dose of Spam-Email" for Tuesday, October 14, 2003: Date/Sender Unknown: IMPORTANT NOTICE: Blue Mountain Arts vs. Microsoft and WebTV Lawsuit - On Jan 28, 1999 the Honorable Robert A. Baines, Judge of the Superior Court of California, granted a preliminary injunction against Microsoft to protect the delivery of Blue Mountain electronic greeting cards. The order was signed and filed on February 2, 1999. Read the Court's conclusions: In November of 1998 Blue Mountain Arts discovered evidence that a number of personalized Blue Mountain electronic greeting cards had been diverted to junk mail trash by Microsoft corporation. Blue Mountain voiced strong objections to Microsoft over this conduct to no avail. In addition, some Blue Mountain cards were blocked by Microsoft's WebTV Networks, so, on December 8,1998, Blue Mountain filed a lawsuit against Microsoft and its subsidiary WebTV. Nov 19, 1998: Blue Mountain Arts calls Microsoft to complain. Microsoft informs Blue Mountain that the problem is caused by a "bug" in Outlook Express e-mail filter software. Microsoft states that it will be fixed very quickly, probably before a letter could be sent to Microsoft. Nov 20, 1998: Microsoft informs Blue Mountain that it will not fix the problem until an unknown future date. Nov 27, 1998: Blue Mountain Arts discovers evidence that Microsoft's Subsidiary, WebTV, has been blocking Blue Mountain's e-mail greetings from being received by WebTV consumers. Dec 8, 1998: Blue Mountain Arts files Complaint Against Microsoft and WebTV in Santa Clara County, California. Dec 8, 1998: Microsoft and it's Subsidiary, WebTV, file to move the case from state court to Federal Court. Dec 9, 1998: Blue Mountain Arts asks for a restraining order to prevent Microsoft Corporation and WebTV from blocking Blue Mountain's use of the internet to provide electronic greeting cards to the public. Dec 15, 1998: Federal District Judge refuses Microsoft's request to move case. The Judge orders Microsoft to pay Blue Mountain's costs and actual expenses, including attorney's fees. Dec 21, 1998: California Superior Court Judge issues a temporary restraining order against Microsoft. Jan 15, 1999: California Court issues order requiring Microsoft to display a warning on a Microsoft home page to all users of Microsoft's Outlook Express 5 Beta. The prescibed warning advises users that their legititmate e-mails may be relegated to the junk mail folder. Jan 22, 1999: Microsoft files papers to dismiss Blue Mountain's lawsuit on the basis of technical and legal arguments. (Motion to Strike ; Demurrer). Jan 28, 1999: The Honorable Robert a. Blue Mountain Arts accuses Microsoft of making false statements about Blue Mountain and this litigation in a press release displayed on Microsoft's website. Jun 11, 1999: Microsoft releases some documents to the public after being ordered to comply with a public disclosure procedure. A previously sealed document, "Reply in Support of Plaintiff's Motion for a Preliminary Injunction", contains arguments that Microsoft may have unfairly targeted Blue Mountain. The document is only partialy released since it still contains redactions by Microsoft. Well, part of the problem is that there are a lot of people who don't like Microsoft, as well as other people or companies, so they'll say or do anything to make them look bad. Another problem is that with the Internet, some stories are TRUE while other stories are NOT!!! You just have to make sure to "double-check" your information to see if it's one or the other when it comes to Spam Emails. To continue with this weeks' "Urban Legends" Spams ... Here's your "Daily Dose of Spam-Email" for Wednesday, October 15, 2003: From: ElizabethVB Date: Thu, 4 Nov 1999 08:26:51 -0500 Subject: Jane Fonda in Vietnam Something to think about!! Unfortunately many have forgotten and still countless others have never known how Ms. Fonda betrayed (not only the idea of our "country") but the men who served and sacrificed during Vietnam Please take the time to read and forward to as many people as you possibly can. It will eventually end up on her computer and she needs to know that "we will never forget." Lest we forget..."100 years of great women" Jane Fonda should never be considered. The first part of this is from an F-4E pilot. The pilot's name is Jerry Driscoll, a River Rat. There are few things I have strong visceral reactions to, but Jane Fonda's participation in what I believe to be blatant treason, is one of them. Part of my conviction comes from exposure to those who suffered her attentions. In 1978, the Commandant of the USAF Survival School was a former POW in Ho Lo Prison-the "Hanoi Hilton". Dragged from a stinking cesspit of a cell, cleaned, fed, and dressed in clean PJs, he was ordered to describe for a visiting American "Peace Activist" the "lenient and humane treatment" he'd received. He spat at Ms. Fonda, was clubbed, and dragged away. During the subsequent beating, he fell forward upon the camp Commandant's feet, accidentally pulling the man's shoe off-which sent that officer berserk. In '78, the AF Col still suffered from double vision-permanently grounding him-from the Vietnamese Col's frenzied application of wooden baton. From 1983-85, Col Larry Carrigan was 47FW/DO (F-4Es). He'd spent 6 years in the "Hilton"-the first three of which he was "missing in action". His wife lived on faith that he was still alive. His group, too, got the cleaned/fed/clothed routine in preparation for a "peace delegation" visit. They, however, had time and devised a plan to get word to the world that they still survived. Each man secreted a tiny piece of paper, with his SSN on it, in the palm of his hand. When paraded before Ms. Fonda and a cameraman, she walked the line, shaking each man's hand and asking little encouraging snippets like: "Aren't you sorry you bombed babies?" and "Are you grateful for the humane treatment from your benevolent captors?" Believing this HAD to be an act, they each palmed her their sliver of paper. She took them all without missing a beat. At the end of the line and once the camera stopped rolling, to the shocked disbelief of the POWs, she turned to the officer in charge...and handed him the little pile. Three men died from the subsequent beatings. Col Carrigan was almost number four. For years after their release, a group of determined former POWs Including Col Carrigan, tried to bring Ms. Fonda and others up on charges of treason. I don't know that they used it, but the charge of "Negligent Homicide due to Depraved Indifference" would also seem appropriate. Her obvious "granting of aid and comfort to the enemy", alone, should've been sufficient for the treason count. However, to date, Jane Fonda has never been formally charged with anything and continues to enjoy the privileged life of the rich and famous. I, personally, think that this is shame on us, the American Citizenry. Part of our shortfall is ignorance: most don't know such actions ever took place. Thought you might appreciate the knowledge. To whom it may concern: I was a civilian economic development advisor in Viet Nam, and was captured by the North Vietnamese communists in South Viet Nam in 1968, and held for over 5 years. I spent 27 months in solitary confinement, one year in a cage in Cambodia, and one year in a "black box" in Hanoi. My North Vietnamese captors deliberately poisoned and murdered a female missionary, a nurse in a leprosarium in Ban me Thuot, South Vietnam, whom I buried in the jungle near the Cambodian border. At one time, I was weighing approximately 90 lbs. (My normal weight is 170 lbs.). We were Jane Fonda's "war criminals." When Jane Fonda was in Hanoi, I was asked by the camp communist political officer if I would be willing to meet with Jane Fonda. I said yes, for I would like to tell her about the real treatment we POWs were receiving, which was far different from the treatment purported by the North Vietnamese, and parroted by Jane Fonda, as "humane and lenient." Because of this, I spent three days on a rocky floor on my knees with outstretched arms with a piece of steel rebar placed on my hands, and beaten with a bamboo cane every time my arms dipped. I had the opportunity to meet with Jane Fonda for a couple of hours after I was released. I asked her if she would be willing to debate me on TV. She did not answer me, her husband, Tom Hayden, answered for her. She was mind controlled by her husband. This does not exemplify someone who should be honored as "100 Years of Great Women." After I was released, I was asked what I thought of Jane Fonda and the anti-war movement. I said that I held Joan Baez's husband in very high regard, for he thought the war was wrong, burned his draft card and went to prison in protest. If the other anti-war protesters took this same route, it would have brought our judicial system to a halt and ended the war much earlier, and there wouldn't be as many on that somber black granite wall called the Vietnam Memorial. This is democracy. This is the American way. Jane Fonda, on the other hand, chose to be a traitor, and went to Hanoi, wore their uniform, propagandized for the communists, and urged American soldiers to desert. As we were being tortured, and some of the POWs murdered, she called us liars. After her heroes-the North Vietnamese communists-took over South Vietnam, they systematically murdered 80,000 South Vietnamese political prisoners. May their souls rest on her head forever. Shame! Shame! (History is a heavy sword in the hands of those who refuse to forget it. Think of this the next time you see Ms. Fonda-Turner at a Braves game) NOTE: I've been told that this Spam Email Story is TRUE, while I've heard the EXACT OPPOSITE from others. 	One of the things that generally evokes a visceral response from ME is American fascist propaganda. The Vietnam war was unwise and unjust. The regime we supported in the South, was no more democratic than the North. It was simply of a different ideology- a right-wing dictatorship, instead of a left-wing dictatorship. The same is true of many regimes the US supported during the Cold War- Guatemala, El Salvador, Chile, Indonesia, etc. Some of the latter were actually blatantly fascist regimes. Have you ever seen Chilean army troops marching in formation? Take a good look at their helmets. Hell, take a good look at modern American Kevlar helmets. The peace movement didn't make up the Gulf of Tonkin incident, to take advantage of Congress and the American people. Lyndon Baines Johnson and the hawks did. The peace movement didn't illegally bomb Cambodia, and then cover it up. The peace movement didn't make up the domino effect BS, nor miscast the war as a struggle against Soviet communist imperialism, which it was not- Vietnam's civil war started on its own, and though the Soviets gave aid to the North, they weren't calling the shots, but rather squaring off with the US in the usual Cold War way. The peace movement didn't take so many years to pull out. The peace movement didn't make secret deals with North and South to cripple peace talks, and then take advantage of the failure of negotiations, the become President. The peace movement didn't massacre civilians at My Lai. The peace movement didn't napalm people's villages. I don't know if those stories in that spm are true. But I would tend to doubt it. I have never heard such a thing before, in years of Fonda-bashing by right-wing Imperialists. However, while I agree with your stance on this issue, eagle, I shan't ellaborate further. As much as I'd love to sit here and talk History and International Relations with someone such as yourself who isn't blinkered and indoctrinated to the backteeth with the slime the populist media have churned out for the last half a century, I feel here is not the place to run with such a damndedly tempting and juicy subject. Here's your "Daily Dose of Spam-Email" for Thrusday, October 16, 2003: From: Sarah S Sent: Saturday, January 29, 2000 3:06 PM Subject: THIS IS DISGUSTING!!! TRUE STORY!!!!! HEY! HOW ABOUT TACO BELL? This girl was really in a hurry one day so she just stopped off at a Taco Bell and got a Chicken soft taco and ate it on the way home. That night she noticed her jaw was kind of tight and swollen. The next day it was a little worse so she went to her doctor. He said she just had an allergic reaction to something and gave her some cream to rub on her jaw to help. After a couple of days the swelling had just gotten worse and she could hardly move her jaw. She went back to her doctor to see what was wrong. Her doctor had no idea so he started to run some tests. They scrubbed out the inside of her mouth to get tissue samples and they also took some saliva samples. Well, they found out what was wrong. Apparently her chicken soft taco had a pregnant roach in it, then she ate it-the eggs then some how got into her saliva glands and well, she was incubating them. They had to remove a couple a layers of her inner mouth to get all the eggs out. If they hadn't figured out what was going on, the eggs would have hatched inside the lining of her mouth!!!!!!!!!! She's suing Taco Bell! Of course. If you need to find out more about this, it's in the Nov. 19th NY Times. If you still want Taco Bell after this one, you're really brave. PASS THE WORD AND BE VERY CAREFUL! Whenever you buy a can of coke or other canned soda, please make sure that you wash the top with running water and soap or, if not available, drink with a straw. A family friend died after drinking a can of soda! Apparently, she didn't clean the top before drinking from the can. The top was encrusted with dried rat's urine which is toxic and obviously lethal!!!!! Canned drinks and other food stuff are stored in warehouses and containers that are usually infested with rodents and then get transported to the retail outlets without being properly cleaned. So you know what to do from now on folks. Please pass this to whom ever you know drink can soda's. 	Well, if you liked this one, here's another. For your "Daily Dose of Spam-Email"... Friday, October 17, 2003: Subject: Be warned Date: Sun, 18 Mar 2001 19:44:42 -0600 Be very Careful - Always be aware of your surroundings!!!!! THIS IS TOO SERIOUS DO NOT DELETE. PLEASE PASS IT ON!! A friend stopped at a pay-at-the-pump gas station to get gas. Once she filled her gas tank after paying at the pump and started to leave the attendant inside came over the speaker. He told her that something happened with her card and that she needed to come inside to pay. The lady was confused because the transaction showed complete and approved. She told him that and was getting ready to leave but the attendant once again urged her to come in to pay or else. She proceeded to go inside and started arguing with the attendant about his threat. He told her to calm down and listen carefully: He told her that while she was pumping gas, a guy slipped into the back seat of her car on the other side and he had called the police. She immediately became scared and looked out there in time to see her car door open and the guy slip out. The report is that the new gang initiation thing is to bring back a woman's body part. One way they are doing this is crawling under girls/women's cars while they're pumping gas or at grocery stores in the night time. Then they are cutting the lady's ankles to disable them in order to kidnap them, kill and dismember them. The other way is slipping into unattended cars and kidnapping the women to kill and dismember them. Please pass this on to other women, young and old alike. Be extra careful going to and from your car at night. If at all possible, don't go alone! This is real!! The message: 1. ALWAYS lock your car doors, even if you're gone for just a second. 2. Check underneath your car when approaching it for reentry, and check in the back before getting in. 3.
