AN: At least four or five vignettes planned. Jaina, Kyp, Jag, Anakin, maybe Tahiri. Only real ship? A/T, Spike/Julia.
Here
is a bio for Faye, and
here
is a particularly good fanart.
Vignette One: Gunpowder Perfume. Feel the subtext!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gunpowder Perfume
Whenever I wake up now, it’s always the same. A grungy bed where the sheets are never changed, a cracked ceiling, and Faye cleaning her blaster in the corner. Except she doesn’t call it a blaster, just a handgun. It’s archaic – it doesn’t shoot energy but little metal pellets, and sometimes when I wake up, she smells odd. She calls it gunpowder perfume, and laughs, eyes closed.
Her hair is purple and her eyes are green, and the first time I saw her, she was tinted red from the pain. When she bent down to check if I was dead, I grabbed her arm and asked her what she was.
“I’m just another two-bit bounty hunter, kid.”
And she shook herself free and turned away.
I don’t know why she took me in – she doesn’t know me, doesn’t
want
to know me, but she did anyway. When I asked her, in one of my more lucid moments, she shrugged, smoking a cig. She didn’t answer until she was finished smoking it, and her voice was smoky from tar.
“You looked pretty pathetic, all by yourself. I figured I should at least give you a burial.”
And I can’t tell if she’s lying or not.
I know I rant and rave in my sleep, calling out to my friends and family. She told me so herself, and added with her sly smile that I called her ‘Zekk’. She loves to tease me, mocking me for my accent and teasing me about the names of men I call out.
She drinks, and smokes, and doesn’t seem to know anything about food that isn’t pre-packaged and dehydrated. Sometimes she goes out and smells like bars. She doesn’t bring men back, though, and I’m happy. She treats me like a sister, and I think she misses her own, wherever she is.
Yesterday, she stayed in, downed a whole bottle of whiskey by herself and watched a video of herself. She giggled on the screen, young and innocent, and I thought of myself at fifteen. After the video was over, she turned to me and told me that everything would be all right, that when I was well enough to move, she would take me to Jet and everything would be alright, everything would be OK. She talked of Gate accidents and spikes and parallels, and she promises me that someone named Ed will figure out how I got here and where Jag and Kyp are.
She doesn’t say that they’ll find a way to send me back.
“You won’t leave me, will you, Jaina?”
And I said yes.
Amazing: I like Faye already.
“You looked pretty pathetic, all by yourself. I figured I should at least give you a burial.”
She makes it seem like she's so tough but you know she's not, really.
: wow!!
Don't know anything about Cowboy Bebop, but this is
good
. Fast, and sharp, and down and dirty - and quite a different mood from your usual SW stuff, where the characters, even if they're hiding on the Fringe, usually have the solid values of their upbringing to hold onto, rather than just the stub of a cigarette...
But would you stop maturing as a writer so darn fast. It's starting to scare me!
Interesting...I like it. *nods decisively*
She talked of Gate accidents and spikes and parallels, and she promises me that someone named Ed will figure out how I got here and where Jag and Kyp are.
She doesn’t say that they’ll find a way to send me back.
Superb.
Excellent start,
Have you ever seen
Cowboy Bebop
? Faye’s pretty cool…
She makes it seem like she's so tough but you know she's not, really.
No, she’s just a lonely little girl…
Well,
The Jazz Messengers
and
The Real Folk Blues
are pretty good sites…
Cowboy Bebop is anime noir, like the old film genre. You meet the main characters, come to like them despite their great (and varied) flaws, and then cry when life’s crap wins. The plot was great, and technically speaking, it was excellent – very beautiful, clean animation, and great music (
this
is a live version of the opening credits song).
*Looks up* Uh, too many links, I know…
Anyway, Faye has a
lot
of problems – gambling, drinking, debt, amnesia, etc… and none of it’s her fault!
Leia:
*bows* You honor me, wise one…
RE: Displaced Scars [Star Wars/Cowboy Bebop crossover]
OK, second post –
here
is a good bio on Jet Black,
this
and
this
are pretty good fanart (the soul, as it were), and a
screen shot
from “Ganymede Elegy”. Now that we know who Jet Black is, let’s continue…
Not my best, but Jet is kinda hard to write. Raised Hackles: Kyp from a cop’s perspective.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Raised Hackles
Jet isn’t an idiot. He knows the man found at the Syndicate bloodbath isn’t normal, isn’t familiar – but over the past couple of years, lots of things have been not normal, not familiar. Still, the man – Kyp? – puts him on edge in a way he hasn’t since felt in a very long time - a year, at least. Since Spike died, anyway.
‘Kyp’ is about his own age of thirty-seven and just as weathered. Type A positive blood, 5’ 10”, green eyes and graying hair, a mole on his back and a white scar on his shin. He’s not in the ISSP database - nor on any of the outstanding bounties. He has no number, no ID, no medical records. In a world where people regularly live on the fringe, he is normal in the extreme.
But Jet still thinks there’s something
wrong
about the man – Kyp, his name is Kyp - a feeling as though he’s watching him
all the time
. It’s creepy, but nothing he can put his finger on…
The man – Kyp, dammit! – is no innocent lamb caught in the crossfire of some gang-war, though. The weapons he carried – the incendiary grenades, the new-fangled hand-held laser guns (only the military has those!), the rather bulky fighter he crashed in (the torps on that thing!)… He was either syndicate or military. What a deal, a choice between Vicious (mob boss with personal vendetta) and Vincent (insane terrorist). But they’re dead – Spike killed them.
He doesn’t care for Kyp. Fifteen years as the cop people called ‘Black Dog’ and another four as a bounty hunter give him a bad feeling about this guy. The things he screams in the night are
bad
.
‘…scarheads and jedi and chiss, oh my…’
Jet Black clips his bonsai and listens to the rattle of the handcuffs on Kyp. It reassures him. Just because the man is dying doesn’t mean he isn’t dangerous.
…COWBOY’S INTUITION IS ALWAYS RIGHT...

:
Well, that's Kyp, FACPOV. But it's also Kyp in a new context, as much as it's a reflection of the ex-cop's own POV...
One wonders what this guy would have made of Corran...
