Age Matters Not?
Yoda looked in the mirror and repressed a sigh. The Jedi Master in the mirror sighed with him, and for a moment he felt like the insecure child he had started out as, so many years ago. It was ridiculous. It was undignified. It was, to put it bluntly, insane. And yet here he was, trying on what little wardrobe he had in an effort to impress the opposite sex. To impress her.
Ridiculous, he told himself. Yaddle is half my age. Old enough to be her - her ancestor I am.
They said that after a certain age, it didn't matter how old you were. Yoda had no idea what age "they" had in mind when saying those words, but he could guess that they were talking in terms of decades, not centuries. Then again, were it not for the Force he would have stopped aging centuries ago.
He frowned as his eyes sought out some hitherto unnoticed wrinkles in his robe. He smoothed them out with an equally wrinkled hand and frowned when he saw how old it looked. Then he noticed how the frown was adding to his already impressive collection of facial wrinkles and let out deep sigh.
He wondered if she saw anything in him other than an aged Jedi Master. He wondered what it would take to convince her otherwise.
Of course, it might be best to have her think of him as a harmless old man first. He was the first male of her species she had encountered in two hundred years, after all. It wouldn't do to put her on the defensive from the get-go.
On the other hand, once he was established in her mind as a grandfatherly figure, it would take decades, if not centuries to make her see he was still young at heart.
Yoda looked at the mirror again and put on a radiant smile. He was hoping to see someone who, if not exactly young any more, was still young at heart and could show the ladies a good time. What he saw was someone who, if not exactly young any more, was young enough to fall head over heels in love and also pathetically willing to say and do anything to please one particular lady.
I need help, he realized. But who could he turn to? None of the Jedi, that was for sure. Romantic attachments were forbidden, after all. Not to mention that if word got out that the respected Master Yoda was seeking advice on courtship, he would never live it down. And if it ever reached Yaddle's lovely ears -
It would change the way she looked at him. She would stop seeing a wise man and start seeing an old fool. She would see that he didn't deserve his title of a Jedi Master and his seat on the Jedi Council. She would look down on him like he was one of those unspeakable creatures that dwelt in Coruscant's lower levels.
He shuddered at the thought. No. Definitely not.
But - he wanted to hold her in his arms. He wanted to say silly things that would make her laugh. He wanted someone with whom he could put aside his Jedi responsibilities and just be Yoda.
And he wanted that someone to be Yaddle.
He ran his fingers through his hair and stopped when some of them came loose. He stared in horror at the white strands in his hands. Then he slowly raised his gaze to look in the mirror and found, to his disappointment, that losing a few hairs didn't him look any older. He was old old and quite possibly nothing he could do would change that fact.
He wondered if Yaddle liked older men. He hoped she did.

His concern over how Yaddle may see him is so sweet. A totally unique look at a character we seldom see in these terms... highly original and very enjoyable!

That struck me as so funny. This whole viggie struck me as funny because it's not really Yoda as we can imagine him, but he must have been like this at some point. Well done!

In a thosand years I would've never thought that Yoda had once been in love. The wisest of the jedi breaking the Jedi Code... Great vingette, you really captured a part of Yoda I can honestly say I've never seen before.

This fic was born when I thought, Okay, love makes fools of us all and the wiser the character is when he's not love-struck, the more foolish he'll look . . . and Yoda was at the top of the list.

This was really cute. I love yoda stories, there aren't nearly enough of them. Does yaddle really have a choice? I mean if the species is going to reproduce how many other "yodas" can she find? But no yoda was cute and i felt like he was alot younger than the yoda i love in ESB. Great job

If I remember correctly, Ki-Adi-Mundi is the only Jedi who was allowed to have a family because his species was dwindling out. There's probably an entire planet filled with backwards-speaking little green trolls somewhere in the GFFA.
And he is a century younger than in ESB. Also, being in love has wonderful rejuvenating effects on the soul, I think. Thanks for reading!

Sad? *scratches head* Hmm . . .
You know, I never thought of it that way when I was writing it (ack, so many things I didn't think about . . . I should get my head checked). But when you think about his post on the Council and how he's looked upon by the other Jedi, I suppose he'd have to restrain himself. As for his age, "you're never too old to be young", as they say.
