	Title: Tokens Author: AzulSaber Characters: Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade Skywalker Timeframe: Post VOTF Genre: Romance, Mush, dash of Humor Summary: L/M mush, reflecting on their love on their one year anniversary. Notes: Written as a birthday present for ginchy. Happy Birthday ginch! Hello! Well, it's been a long time since I posted anything on the Beyond boards, but I hope to remedy that slowly but surely. This is my first L/M romance, as well as first strictly mush fic, so please be gentle! I welcome all suggestions and comments to help me improve my writing. I hope you enjoy! Happy Birthday ginch! This one's for you! There are regrets. There are always regrets, hanging in the air there, evil dark phantoms that threaten to enrapture and snare my soul. The dark is omnipresent and will never leave. This is not fatalism. This is a fact. But this is also true: there will always be light and there will always be him. He is my love, my life, and Light. Sappy and soft my words may be, but it’s all true. What’s the craziest part is that he never, in a more logical universe, should have been mine. And I should never have been his. But it’s been a year now—already—and still we trek on. I sit, doing our boring filing work that all responsible adults must do, and daydream of him. It’s funny really, because he’s the one with his eyes always on the stars. And yet he invades my space. Farmboy better have gotten me an anniversary present. I wish I could give him better than mere tokens, scraps, gifts that would do more than sit on a shelf and collect dust, however wondrous they may be. I told him this once. He smiled and kissed me lightly and then said I was treasure enough. But shavit, he sure is hard to shop for. It must be a universal rule that all males are difficult. If they can find a way to prolong our agony, they will. So I get to work braving the shops and chattering of incessantly fussy shopkeepers all for him. All for you Luke. --- She’s beautiful in moonlight. The way she simply stands in it, basking, as it illuminates her features. Silver waves washing away the regrets and years on her face. I tell her that she’s stunning at night and predictably, she asks wryly if it’s only in the moonlight that she looks this way. It’s been a year (has time really passed so quickly?) and yet she still makes me stumble over words. With no answer other than the love I feel in my heart and the eagerness to remedy perhaps a foolish remark, I grab her and kiss her. She returns it and the galaxy disappears. It’s like the first kiss we ever shared and all the others in-between—sweet and incredible. I wonder how I got so lucky. All the impossibilities, all the insurmountable difficulties that led me to this point in my life do not matter, for she is here. Her anniversary gift is perfect of course, but it wasn’t necessary to be so extravagant I tell her even as we hold each other close in our quarters. She shakes her head, still toying with my gift to her, and looks me straight in the eyes. Her green eyes remind me of tales of lights that dance across the skies in cold places such as Hoth. “It’ll never be enough Luke,” she says very softly, very uncharacteristically (or so those who don’t know her would think). “You are enough,” I reply. And it’s true, sure as the Light that shines on. --- Of course, he’s wonderful as always. The night, the banter, the kisses and more, remind me why I fell in love with this man in the first place. It’s easy to watch the galaxy fade away in his arms. And too, his words make me feel warm inside. I’m not the easiest person to reassure; I need constant reminders of my worth. But somehow he understands that and patiently waits there. And when I make it there he doesn’t seem irritated that it took me so long—he simply accepts and is happy. I love him. “I love you.” “I love you too.” The night settles down, the frivolities die away. Stars twinkle and indeed, I note, the moonlight does make me beautiful. And Luke nearly glows in it. There is so much out there to face and fight. But I’ve come this far—we’ve come this far. It has been worth every step of the way. I start to slip into sleep—content with everything in the whole galaxy, basking willingly in the warm glow of what can only be described as sappiness. Then he starts snoring. “Skywalker!” -----signature----- I have a bad feeling about this. Never tell me the odds. 30 Years of Geek Heaven. Celebration IV here I come!

	dies at the ending You just had to throw that in. It's weird, but I love the fact that you never mention the gifts they give each other. Because we all know that's not what matters, but only what's between them. 	I loved this, Azul. And you were worried you wouldn't be able to write L/M! Perfect mush, with a real backbone story-wise and wonderful characterisations. There are regrets. I loved the first-person as well; it is so hard to do for Luke and Mara, but you pulled it of beautifully. You're never going to hear the end of this now, do you know that?
