	Hi. I usually post in Saga. I also post something more serious than this. It's a shameless sad fanboy crossover. The main SW character is Mara Jade. Timeframe is not long after Luke and Mara get back from their honeymoon. Please forgive the utter fanboyishness of this. ---- "Oh, will you stop worrying farmboy?" Mara tousled Luke's hair. "I should go with you," Luke insisted. "It's just a spatial anomaly. You've got plenty to keep you busy with the government and the Jedi." "Just a spatial anomoly that somehow leads outside of the Universe as we know it. We should use a probe, or a regular scanning crew, or--" "They already tried a probe. You need someone Force Sensitive for this," Mara countered. "Does the Force tell you that I shouldn't go?" "No," he admitted, closing his eyes. "But it doesn't tell me you should go, either." Mara nodded. "Exactly. It says nothing about it one way or the other. And I want to do this." Luke sighed. He knew that trying to change her mind was pointless. It was, of course, one of the things he loved about her. She gave him a bright smile and walked away. He buried his face in his hands. ---- The New Republic had insisted on sending two X-wings to back her up, but they understood to stay out of the affected area. She could see it now; a swirling shift of color and light and blured, shifting stars that were not their own. Gritting her teeth, she pushed her ship through. ---- Already on the planet below, another woman scowled and wrinkled her nose at the fetid swamp covering the ruins. There was something strange here, she knew that instinctively. The air shimmered, with more than just summer heat. "Trust me to try Cambodia in the worst part of the summer," she remarked wryly into her headset. When there was no response, she scowled. "Do you copy?" No answer but static. "Great, interference," she murmured. She took the headset off and put it away. She frowned as she saw some sort of flash in the sky. There was a glittering, like a plane, but it was going down, fast. She moved towards it as it began to go. ---- "Why exactly did we come here again?" a third woman asked her companions as she entered the sweltering heat of the temple ruins. There was no answer for her, either. "Dick?" she whirled, but there was no one behind her. There was just the shimmering. "Gar? Grace?" She tried to return the way she had come, and was knocked back by some sort of energy field. Scowling, she rubbed her nose. She twitched her fingers and with a power that was not like the Force, but rather a direct connection to the Earth itself, ripped up some of the rocks and hurled them at the shimmering effect. They smashed harmlessly against it. She frowned, then turned her attention again to the temple. "Guess I'll have to do this on my own," she said. Then she heard Mara's ship coming down and looked up, and could see it falling. She called upon her power again, and the chunk of ground she was standing on ripped free of the surface, and riding it she shot towards the falling ship. ---- Mara frantically worked the controls, but they were dead. She reached out with the Force to slow her descent...but found her powers weakened, lessened somehow. 	it seems quite interesting so far, nice touch with the luke/mara thing there. that last line reminded me of an old Battlestar Galattica episode where Starbuck asked the lone Cylon survivor of a crash (Cylons flew in groups of three and shared a mentality similar to that of the Killicks)what happened. the Cylon told him that the goup was debating what to do about the disabled ship, and trying to place blame, "When the ground came up and hit us." always loved that line. anyway, pretty good start. keep it coming. -----signature----- "I choose you, PikIshu!" 	The second woman came around an outcropping of rock and lifted her round-lensed sunshades, raising an eyebrow. Mara's ship had landed hard and was smouldering, but was still in one piece. The woman could tell that the pilot had some skill to bring the craft down relatively intact. But for all her experience with strange temples, portals to other dimensions, and even limited forms of time travel, she had never seen anything like this before. Not in real life, anyway. It looked like some sort of spaceship out of a sci-fi movie. Not that aliens were outside her purview either; but this didn't look like the few real spacecraft she had seen. It was too sleek, like some sci fi geek had designed it. But it was rare, and therefore valuable. She was tempted to try to salvage it; that was her life's work, after all. But there was a chance the pilot might still be alive. And even if it was some gruesome alien, it at least deserved a chance. She was about to take a step foward when someone else entered the crash site. She froze where she was, half hidden behind the rock outcropping, one hand going to the gun on her left hip. The newcomer was a young blonde girl, not quite in her twenties. Cute on the verge of becoming truly stunning, the girl wore a chocolate-brown bodysuit that left her legs bare. Except for the dark color, it was something she herself might have worn. But the short leather jacket that went with it must have been totally dehydrating in this weather. Add to that the heavy golden necklace and the girl was obviously out of her mind. Then she noticed that the girl was standing on a floating piece of rock, levitating above the ground. "Great, some teen meta that fancies herself a superhero," she murmured. She was astonished when the blonde turned and stared right at her. The blonde smirked. "And you look like something out of some fanboy's wet dream of a video game," she countered. "You heard me?" The blonde raised one eyebrow. "In future, if you wanna narrate to yourself, don't do it so loud." "Touche," she grimaced. Wouldn't do to underestimate the girl. Especially since she seemed to have brains as well as real power, despite her bad fashion sense. She took her hand away from the gun, slowly. 	i truly apologise for that double post. i didn't realise it had done that until just now! stupid, kriffing computer problems! ARGH! I humbly request your forgiveness for that. ok, now I am totally confussed by the identities of the two other females. i think i might have a clue, but that would mean the world of star wars was intersecting with the world of DC comics, and Video Games. 	Magehound: Correct, except that it's Terra II. Terra I is dead and we may all be thankful for that. She was...not the sort of person you'd want to be around. I guess that means it's time for disclaimers. Mara Jade is, of course, owned by the Great Lucas. Terra II is owned by DC Comics, and Lara Croft is owned by Eidos Interactive. I own none of this, and am making no money off of it, I am just a sad fanboy. Please don't sue. Silsolo: My sincere apologies. gulp ---- Mara watched the two women talking to each other. Each would occasionally shoot a glance at her ship. They had obviously been drawn to the sound of the crash, or maybe they had seen it falling. One of them was a cute blonde, the other a stunning brunette with her hair done up in a long ponytail. Both of them were dressed rather outlandishly. The brunette was armed with two guns, though they didn't seem like traditional blasters, one on each hip. The blonde seemed to have no weapons, but given that she was floating on a chunk of rock above the ground, was apparently some kind of Force Sensitive. Why she was wasting energy on sustaining the levitation at the cost of her own Force reserves was something Mara didn't understand. She was not reassured by the fact that both women were human, or that one of them was Force Sensitive, or by the fact that they hadn't attacked her ship or each other yet. This world was in some kind of pocket dimension or trans-universe anomoly. There was no telling what was "normal" down here. It was time, however, to reveal herself. ---- Terra II, also known by the name of her predecessor, Tara Markov, knew about strange. She herself was heir to the legacy of a rather unpleasant person, and had been involved in a number of crazy events in her career, including alternate timelines, insane gods, the government interferences of Checkmate and the DEO, and several different Universe altering crises. All of which is to say that a spaceship crash and a fortune hunter inspecting it were, of themselves, not terribly unsettling to her. But there was something about this whole experience that told her there was more going on than she thought. Layers within layers. She was not entirely surprised when a redhead in a black cat suit came out of the ship. "And you thought my clothing was impractical," she remarked to the brunette. "Everything's relative," the brunette returned dryly. "I'm more interested in the fact that she's human." "She doesn't like being referred to in the third person, thank you very much," the redhead snapped. "But I've got to admit, I'm a bit lost. What planet is this?" Terra blinked; was she serious? "Earth," she said helpfully. The redhead grimaced. "Never heard of it." Terra and the brunette exchanged a look. Terra spun a finger around her temple, and the brunette smirked. "No, I'm not crazy," the redhead snapped. "I'm just not from around here. For a Force sensitive, your mental shields are virtually non-existant." "A what sensitive?" Terra blinked. What she wouldn't give for Gar or one of the Outsiders to have come through that shimmering field with her, right about now. "I think she's referring to your earth control powers," the brunette remarked dryly. "Oh," Terra shrugged. "Well psionics aren't part of the package, I'm afraid. What is this Force you speak of?" "I think I'm further from home than I thought," the redhead muttered. "That may very well be," the brunette agreed. 	"So," said Mara after several more minutes of discussion. She pointed to the brunette. "Lara Croft, professional treasure hunter, salvage expert, and excavator." She pointed to the blonde. "Terra II, metahuman with the ability to control the very ground itself. Both of you know this planet as Earth. Neither of you has ever heard of the Galactic Republic, or the Empire, or the Jedi, or the Sith, or the Force." "Nope, nope, nope, nope, and nope," said Terra. "Sounds like a space opera," Croft put in. "All right. My name is Mara Jade. I came through an anomoly in space to get here, to this planet you both know that I've never heard of but is home to both of you. What exactly did you hope to find here?" "The temple ruins here, are supposed to contain some sort of treasure, I know not what. But treasure hunting is part of what I do," said Croft. "All in a day's work for me." "I came here with several other 'meta-humans' as you call them because there's some sort of weird energy radiating from here," said Terra. "Possibly hazardous to people. Certainly worth investigating. It's probably the cause of us being trapped here and your anomoly, too." Terra and Lara Croft eyed eachother with renewed wariness, as they realized they might be here at cross purposes. But at length Lara said, "I certainly don't want to lug something radioactive around. If it's a threat, that's another story." Terra nodded. "We know your name," she said to Mara. "But we don't know what you do." "You'll remember I first noted your abilities, I thought you were a Force sensitive being. I know you don't know what that is. But even though my powers seem weaker here, I can still do this..." she lifted a few rocks off the ground. "I don't have earth elemental mastry the way you do, but I do have some telekenesis, psionics, and limited precognition under certain circumstances. It also aids me in combat. My main weapon in combat is this." She took out her lightsaber hilt and activated it. Both Terra and Croft stared at the ignited blade. Terra whistled appreciatively. "Must be valuable," Croft murmured. "The crystals that power it are, but they're not for sale," Mara warned. "I'm sure not," Croft waved a hand. "Nor would I expect you to give up one of your weapons. Nor do I have cash on hand to buy it in any case. But I wonder if those power crystals grow on Earth or can be made here...." "Whatever else is going on, we know that the source of....whatever this is...is in the ruins here," said Terra. "Shall we?" 	"There may be traps," Croft warned as they advanced. "In fact there usually are." "Undoubtedly," Terra agreed. Mara was standing behind her on her chunk of floating rock. "You sure you don't want to come up here?" Croft shook her head. "Finding these traps is part of my business." But out here in the open, at least, the only hazards seemed to be the occasional loose rock. They found an entrance to the ruins proper easily enough, and slipped through, Croft going first. Mara ignited her lightsaber. Each of the others had lights, of course, but hers would be the longest lasting. She had already realized their technology level was significantly lower than hers. Croft's weapons were old fashioned projectile slug throwers, for Force's sake; no world in the Galaxy had used those in over fifteen hundred years. She had already fairly grasped the idea she was outside of her own universe, yet such primitive weaponry amazed her. At length they came to a vast chamber. It was truly dark down here, and they were all grateful to be out of the summer heat; but each of them, Croft most especially, was aware that there must be all kind of dangers down here. Terra, for her part, was wary of using any significant portion of her powers down here, lest she bring the roof down on them. That, after all, was how her villainous predecessor had died. She shuddered off the memory. "Something troubling you?" Mara asked her. "You know I'm Terra II," Terra said. "The original Terra....well, let's just say she left a bitter legacy behind. A dark past that is not truly mine, but yet it haunts me. Being down here, where I have to watch how I use my powers, reminded me of that." Mara nodded grimly. "My own situation is not so different." "Look at this," Croft breathed. 	"That would be the source of the disturbance, I'd say," Croft said softly. They were in a vast chamber, roughly bowl-shaped. The pattern was occasionally disrupted by jutting shards of rock, and the bottom of the chamber certainly had plenty of rubble and the occasional bit of harder stuff, black diamond maybe. In the center of the chamber they could clearly see glowing angular crystals, throwing off a sickly yellow-green light. Within this there were smaller, rounder objects that glowed many different colors, most often bright blue. And there were things moving down there. Shadowy shapes that lumbered amongst the crystalline mess. Somehow, none of the women thought they would be friendly. "What is it?" Terra asked softly. Mara counsulted a hand scaner. "My readings are crazy on this stuff. Constantly shifting energetic properties. I don't know what it is. It's not radioactive, but it is clearly the source of the dimensional distortion. Who knows what it will do if we move it." "So much for salvage," Croft muttered. "But how do we get rid of it?" Terra asked. "And if we do get rid of it, won't that prevent you from getting home?" "I don't know, and it might," Mara admitted. "None of us might get back to the world we know," Croft said. "I've never heard of Terra, and she's never heard of me. We may be from different versions of Earth, ourselves. If we somehow can destroy that stuff, the Earth we end up on might not be home to either one of us." "And for certain I can't get home until my ship is fixed, and no offense to you ladies, neither of you has the neccesary technology available." Mara wrinkled her nose. "Our best bet might be trying to find out where that stuff came from, maybe we can send it back somehow." "And find out what those smaller gems are," Croft put in. "And what those moving things are," Terra added thoughtfully. The three women looked at eachother. 	Slowly they advanced towards the glowing centerpiece of the chamber. Now, at last, Croft began to find traps. Some of them even would have caught Mara and Terra on the floating rock, as they consisted of long silvery almost-invisible wires in their path. There were also trip-mines that Croft almost stepped on twice. Neither of the other ladies pointed out that the traps might be so old they wouldn't work any more, or that they could take care of themselves. Each of them was grateful for the help. All three of them, quietly, reflected that they were working together rather well as a team given that they hardly knew eachother at all, and Croft was, potentially, at cross purposes with the other two. But then, given Mara's dark past and the equally dark legacy Terra had inherited from her predecessor, neither had much room to talk. Even so, they had meshed well as a team despite hardly knowing eachother at all, and being a situation none of them fully understood. All of which is to say they spent most of the time in quiet introspection, save when Lara found a trap. 	The thing was vaguely humanoid, in the sense that it had an upright body, two arms, and two legs. But it was made out of some shifting plasma-like substance, and within small bits of crystal glowed and glittered. Lara fired three shots, none of which did any appreciable damage. The creature simply absorbed them and kept coming. Mara leapt down and ignited her saber, slashing again and again. She did some damage, but not enough. The creature reformed around the wounds she had made, becoming slightly smaller in the process, but still larger than the three of them put together. Mara could kill it--eventually. But the creature would have taken them down long before "eventually" arrived. Tara threw a rock at it with her power, and the creature absorbed it with the same ease as it had Lara's bullets. She broke the ground beneath it, and the creature fell over, but instantly and fluidly reformed into a standing shape. It lunged at them, and the three ladies ducked out of the way of it's heavy hammer blow of power. None of them wanted to be struck by those viscous, fluid limbs. "We can't beat it," Tara hissed. "Not any one of us," Mara realized, "But together...." Lara fired. Mara hacked away with her saber. Tara brought rocks down from above, careful not to hit the other two. It could absorb the attacks of Lara, or Tara. It could survive the attacks of Mara. But the three of them together overwhelmed it, worse it down, reduced it to a pile of steaming goo within seconds. It did not rise again. There were other creatures of the same time surrounding the central crystal pile. Fighting all of them would take more endurance than they had. 	Ok, I totally apologise for not responding earlier, and I feel even worse that no one else has. I think you are doing a good job with this, you make the three ladies work together well, yet still retain their individuality. Good job with that. and I admire your tenacity with the story.
