You know, that was really beautiful. I didn't think anyone could add to that scene, but you did.

Except ... I have a question. Really, when we write out scenes in prose like that and we add in characters' nonverbal thoughts, we aren't really rewriting the MOVIE scenes.

What we're rewriting are the scenes from the NOVELIZATION.

If the idea is to rewrite how the MOVIE should have gone, we need to try to use script format. You can't see thought; therefore, if the scene I just read had been filmed, it would have been exactly the same on the screen. It's lovely, insightful, and well-written, but it doesn't change the MOVIE one whit.

Should a distinction be made here? Admittedly, being able to show thought and rewrite the novel instead of the movie does give a writer a whole lot more latitude.

(Although, having to try to use screenplay form again does allow me to try to derust old skills that were never that good to being with ... grin a good thing for me.)

Well I did consider a proper rewrite that would have completely changed the scene, putting Ewoks in there for comic relief, having Anakin place thumb tacks underneath the other seats in the council chamber and having Padme walking around in a slave-girl outfit, but I decided against it laugh

The sad thing is, I could have actually done the scene that way and still won because nobody else entered.

Sorry for the double post but uh...where's my title? It says I'm the CT winner, but there's nothing about the PT...just wondering.

LLL: If the idea is to rewrite how the MOVIE should have gone, we need to try to use script format.

This is coming from someone who hasn't submitted a single darn thing to the contest, mind you, but -

If script format becomes a requirement, I'm going to do one of two things: 1) give up all hopes of ever participating, or 2) write a non-script scene just to annoy the heck out of people.

One thing that's keeping me from writing is the time limit. Would it be feasible to change the schedule to something like this?

Monday (12:00 AM) - Voting for last week's contest begins.
Monday - The details for this week's contest are posted.
Tuesday (11:59 PM) - Voting for last week's contest ends.
Wednesday/Thursday - The winner of last week's contest is announced.
Sunday (11:59 PM) - Deadline for this week's contest.

Script format, as shown with an earlier challenge gave little to no contestants and I feel restricting people to ONLY script format is stifling to creativity. I do understand what you're saying, though, but believe no distinction should be made. Nothing we do will ever change the movie. wink Also, the novel fits in with the movie. The rumination scene happened in both - so you could be "technically" rewriting the movie as well. I'm sorry, maybe I don't understand this point.

And lazy, I do like the schedule you set up and will try to implement it (perhaps) in the next few games because obviously we can't do it now. It's also a contest and time barriers must be given thought. The CT game is going on just fine with the time limit, so we'll see how that goes.

That being said...

A la a suggestion from jedimasterbac...

The next scene to be written/rewritten is the Mace v. Palpatine showdown. This also includes where Anakin kills Mace. You must end as soon as Mace is killed. The confrontation between Palpatine and Anakin will be another challenge. You can detail the fight, Anakin's emotions, Mace's... whichever.

We'll going to extend past the four-day deadline and see if enough people post. If not, then the deadline will be extended and lazy's method will be implemented.

For this challenge, you have until Friday, February 23th at 11:59pm. If there is not more than one entry by this deadline, it will be extended until Sunday. Voting details will be posted on Friday.

Any questions, post 'em here. Good luck and happy writing.

Well here’s my entry. Hope you like it:
____________________

Supreme Chancellor Palpatine turned around in his chair as four Jedi entered his office. He had been expecting them. Palpatine knew that Anakin would do his duty and tell Master Windu that he was a Sith Lord. He also knew that Anakin’s feelings for Padme and lust for power would drive him to return.

“Master Windu, I take it General Grievous has been destroyed then…I must say you’re here sooner than expected.”

“Yes Chancellor, and we are here to escort you to the Senate so you may give up your emergency powers.” Mace responded coolly, playing his cards close to his chest.

“But four Jedi? Isn’t that a bit much?” Palpatine asked, knowing that Mace was playing mind games. The Chancellor was happy to play along.

“You can’t be too careful. There are some dangerous people around.” Replied the Jedi Master as he looked the Supreme Chancellor in the eye.

“Of course Master Jedi…but I’m not sure that now is the right time to do this…after all the Trade Federation and the Techno-Union still control a large number of droid troops.”

“Yes, but with both Dooku and Grievous dead, the Separatists have nobody to lead their army. They will fall quickly. There is no need for you to maintain your power any longer.” Mace said calmly as he tried to sense whether or not Palpatine truly was a Sith Lord.

“Ah but I disagree Master Windu, if I give up my power, the galaxy will become weak. I must maintain control to secure a lasting peace within the Republic.” Palpatine retorted, as he prepared himself for battle, knowing full well where the confrontation would lead.

“That is not your concern. The Senate must decide what is best for the Republic now. Are you refusing to step down and allow the Senate to take control?” Mace asked, already knowing the answer as he felt the Dark Side of the Force manifesting around the Chancellor.

“I am.” Palpatine responded angrily.

“Then we have no choice…in the name of the Galactic Senate of the Republic, you’re under arrest Chancellor.” Mace commanded as he ignited his lightsaber, followed by the Jedi that had accompanied him.

“Are you threatening me Master Jedi?”

“The Senate will decide your fate.”

“I AM the Senate.” Palpatine replied with venom.

“Not yet.”

It’s treason then…” With those words, Palpatine leapt out of his chair, lightsaber in hand, moving quickly to cut down one f the Jedi, stabbing him through the chest. Swinging, Palpatine went for Windu, forcing the Jedi Master to duck under the blade, allowing Palpatine to twist his lightsaber upwards, cutting through another Jedi.

His movements were fast, and now, Mace Windu and Kit Fisto worked together to try to fend off the Chancellor’s attack. Palpatine found himself between the Jedi, bringing his crimson-red blade up to block a chop from Windu, before dropping to the left to parry a stabbing strike from Fisto.

The fight moved forward towards the main chamber of Palpatine’s office. Forcing Windu back with a strong lunge, Palpatine then turned in a quick movement, cutting through Fisto’s chest before swinging the blade around and beheading him.

Now, he found himself confronting Master Windu once again. A smile crossed the Chancellor’s face as he saw the determination in Windu’s eyes.

“I must say…if those were the best Jedi in the Order, then you are in serious trouble.”

************

Anakin Skywalker descended in his transport to the Senate Complex, not sure what he was going to do. He was disobeying Master Windu’s orders by just being there, but he told himself that the Jedi would need his help. In the back of his mind though, he knew that the reason he was there was to ensure that Palpatine was kept alive. He needed to know if what the Sith Lord said was true. If the Sith really had the power to prevent death, Anakin needed to find out the secret.

************

Their blades clashed, the hum of the lightsabers giving way to a crackling sound every time they came into contact. Raising his blade over his head, Mace readied himself as Palpatine stabbed forward. Bringing his lightsaber down to parry the attack, Mace then twisted, swinging the lightsaber, forcing the Chancellor to step backwards and move towards the window.

Mace followed, attacking with a furious flurry of strikes, only to find Palpatine blocking every move, the final strike forcing Master Windu’s blade against the window, shattering the glass. Lunging forward again, Palpatine aimed for the Jedi’s chest only to find that Windu had spun behind him, knocking the lightsaber out of the Sith Lord’s hand and with a strong kick Mace forced Palpatine to the floor, following him as the Chancellor tried to crawl away.

As Anakin entered the room, he saw the Chancellor on the ground, cowering as Mace pointed his lightsaber at him, while signalling to Anakin to stay back.

“See…what…what did I tell you…the Jedi are taking over…” Palpatine said to Anakin as Mace moved in closer with the blade.

“It’s over…my lord” Mace said sarcastically, “You have lost…the oppression of the Sith will never return.”

“No…no you will die.” Palpatine responded as he unleashed a flash of lightning from his fingers, forcing Mace to raise his lightsaber to block the bolts of energy.

Anakin stood and watched, confused and unsure what to do as the Chancellor seemed to lose control, watching as Mace pushed his lightsaber forward, deflecting the lightning back at Palpatine.

“I have the power to save the ones you love…” Palpatine called out to Anakin as the lightning began to strike back into his face, almost burning his skin.

“Don’t listen to him Anakin.” Mace responded, knowing that the young Jedi was confused.

“You must choose…if I die, so does she…” Palpatine continued, as the lightning began to scar his face as Mace pushed forward. Sensing that Anakin wasn’t going to do anything, Palpatine began draw back on the power of the Force Lightning, apparently giving into the pain as his face seemed to melt away.

“I…I can’t hold on any longer…don’t let him kill me Anakin…please…too weak…I’m too weak…I can’t…help me…Anakin help me…” Palpatine pleaded as with one final push, Mace forced the bulk of the lightning to strike back at Palpatine who had no choice but to stop, Breathless, the Chancellor glanced over at Anakin, begging him to intervene.

“Anakin…don’t let him kill me…”

“I’m going to end this…once and for all.” Mace cut in as he prepared to raise his lightsaber to strike.

“You can’t…he must stand trial.” Anakin replied, knowing that killing Palpatine was not only against the Jedi Code, but it would mean that any chance of saving Padme would be gone. “He has lost…there’s no need to kill him…take him to the Senate.”

“He has control of the Senate and the courts. He’s too dangerous to be kept alive. This has to end now.” Mace responded as Palpatine cowered in fear.

“No…don’t kill me…please…” the Chancellor begged, knowing that this was a defining moment in his plan.

“It’s not the Jedi way…we serve the Senate and the Republic…he is unarmed and defenceless now. It’s not our responsibility to decide his fate.” Anakin said, trying to convince the Jedi Master. But Mace wasn’t listening. He knew that Anakin was right, but he also knew that the Sith posed a real threat. It had to end.

“I need him.” Anakin continued, even as Mace raised his blade and brought it down on Palpatine’s head. But the blade never found its target. Instead, Mace found that Anakin had ignited his own lightsaber and blocked the attack.

“What do you think you’re doing? Stand down Skywalker.” Mace ordered as he tried to force Anakin’s blade away. But Anakin wouldn’t budge.

“No…this isn’t right and you know it.” Anakin replied, blocking another attempt from Mace to kill the Chancellor.

“He’s a Sith Lord, Anakin. Do you even know what that means? He’s poison. He will destroy the Republic. We have to stop this now while we still have a chance.”

Mace and Anakin found themselves facing off, bringing their lightsabers together, neither one really trying to kill the other, but still fighting as Anakin tried to prevent Mace from destroying the Chancellor.

“I need him alive.” Anakin said as he brought his lightsaber across his body and down to block a strong swing from Master Windu.

“Whatever he’s told you, it’s a lie. If we let him stand trial, he will get free…and then what? The Republic will be plunged into chaos. We’re Jedi, it’s our duty to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Another strike from Mace, another block from Anakin as Palpatine watched events unfold, allowing himself a little smile.

“Yes, we’re Jedi…and we don’t kill unarmed prisoners.” Anakin replied, realising the irony of the fact that he done exactly the same thing to Count Dooku.

“I won’t let him destroy the Republic…now stand down.” Mace spoke as he used the Force to push Anakin backwards, giving him a clear strike at Palpatine.

Recovering, Anakin rushed to block Mace’s strike again, but this time, he didn’t try to block the blade. Instead, as Mace brought his own lightsaber down, Anakin swung upwards, cutting through the Jedi Master’s hand.

Stunned, Mace stared at Anakin, just as Palpatine sat up and unleashed a furious blast of Force Lightning. The Jedi Master’s body convulsed, rocked with unending pain as Palpatine continued to fire lightning from his fingers. Anakin was frozen, in shock at what he had just done, unable to move as Palpatine continued his assault on Master Windu.

“Power…unlimited POWER.” Palpatine called out as he sent a final surge of energy through his fingers, attacking Mace who fell backwards through the window, flying off into the distance before falling to his death as Anakin sat down, dropping his lightsaber to the floor.

What I'm personally looking forward to is people re-writing the actual action of this scene. As we all know, the scene in film comes off as pretty embarrassing. Palpatine pretty much leaps forward, pauses for what seems like an eternity, cuts down Tinn and Kolar, and after a few more swipes does away with Fisto. Come on, these are Jedi! I want some of these re-writes to focus more on the action, perhaps making the Jedi out to be much more formidable opponents than what was shown on screen.

Oh yeah, one idea I had is to have some of those black Shadow Guards from "The Force Unleashed" coming in to fight the Jedi while Palpatine focuses on Mace. Hell, why not have one HUNDRED Jedi come in to confront Palpatine? Have Palpatine set up a death trap that drops most of them into some fiery pit leaving only five or six left (caught by surprise, mind you) to have Palpatine do away with quickly.

Just throwing out a few ideas for the creative among us. wink

Four wielders of the Light Side of the Force stepped off of their gunship at the Galactic Senate. They strode silently down the vast, red-carpeted hallway lined with monumental metallic columns, deep into the bowels of the building, only meditating on a certain task that lay before them. The dark-skinned human, Jedi Master Mace Windu, head of the Jedi Council, orchestrated the movement against the Supreme Chancellor. With him were three of the most powerful Jedi Masters within the Order; Saesee Tiin, a stoic Iktochi with pink-tinted skin and two intimidating, down-curving horns on both sides of his head; Agen Kolar, an aggressive Zabrak with dark skin and a series of studs protruding from his black-haired crown; and Kit Fisto, an amphibious Nautolan with green skin and a mass of tentacles tied down in groups from the back of his head. An intimidating selection, to say the least.

The elevator doors opened on the floor of the Chancellor’s office suite. “Be alert. If Palpatine is the Sith Lord, he will already feel our presence. He has had time prepare,” stated Mace Windu, and the others nodded in agreement.

“I sense other presences in the rooms ahead. Could be guards.” said Agen Kolar.

“Most likely,” replied Windu. “Do what you must to get to Palpatine, but only draw your saber if nothing else will suffice.” The four Jedi walked into the holding area that lay ahead of Palpatine’s offices. There in the middle of the lobby was the desk of Palpatine’s executive assistant, Dar Wac. The Rodian looked up at the four Masters with his round, black eyes and stood up from his chair.

“Good evening, Masters,” said Wac in Huttese. “I regret to inform you, but the Supreme Chancellor will not be seeing anyone else this evening. He has retired.” He continued to watch, unbelievingly, as the Jedi continued toward his desk, and he didn’t fail to notice that none of them even making eye contact with him. “Excuse me, Master Windu. But Chancellor Palpatine will not be seeing any further guests tonight. Please come tomorrow.” Mace gave the being a hard glance, then he and Saesee walked to the right of the desk, and Kit and Agen walked to the left, passing Dar Wac and again not even acknowledging his presence. Dar stood shocked momentarily, then suddenly panicked. He pushed a serious of buttons on his desk, and spoke into the speaker, “Guards! Guards! Stop the Jedi!”

By that time, the two Red Guards standing outside the doors to Palpatine’s office had spotted the Jedi Masters coming around the corner, with Dar Wac running up from behind them. The two guards stepped toward the center of the door and crossed their Force-pikes before it. Dar Wac made it ahead of the Jedi and stood between the guards.

“The Chancellor is not seeing anyone. Leave immediately,” snarled the green-skinned Dar Wac.

“Step aside. This is Jedi business,” retorted Windu. “We don’t have time for civility.” The three beings remained in place. With a wave of his hand, Mace flung open the doors behind the guards. Dar spun around and shouted for the two guards on the other side of the door to come forth. Now faced with four guards and a fretting Rodian, Windu only raised his hand. Instantly, the five beings flew backwards as if they had been struck in the torso by a Wasipu log and skidded across the floor of Palpatine’s main office in a heap. The Jedi walked through the right side of the room, up the short flight of stairs and entered the hallway that lead to Palpatine’s private holding office.

“I’ll stay here and hold back the guards and any reinforcements they call,” said Saesee Tiin. The other Jedi walked three across the hallway until they came to the small holding office, where Palpatine sat facing the opposite window.

“Ah, Master Windu, I take it General Grievous has been destroyed then,” said the elderly man as he spun around in his chair to face the Jedi.

“Yes, Master Kenobi exterminated Grievous today,” replied Windu. “So the war is ending. We must have you relinquish your emergency powers so that we may peacefully resolve the end of war.”

“I’m sorry to inform you of this, Master Windu, but my powers will remain in place until the war is officially over. The Senate will vote on when they will be relinquished. Grievous’s destruction doesn’t signal the end of the war”

“No, we’re sorry, Chancellor. The war is over. Your emergency powers must be surrendered immediately.” Informed Windu. “The Jedi have to regain peace in the galaxy. We can only do so when we don’t have to go through a chain of command.”

“It sounds to me that the Jedi want control of the Republic,” growled Palpatine. He darted his eyes from one Jedi Master to the next, resting on Agen Kolar. “Master Kolar,” he began, “How can we resolve this matter peacefully?” Kolar looked puzzled, and looked to Mace. A ghoulish roar filled the room simultaneously with the snap-hiss of a lightsaber igniting. A red flash spun toward the Jedi, and the three of them took a step back in surprise. Agen Kolar ignited and swung his blue lightsaber forward, but too late. His head thudded on the floor. The body stood for a second, then twisted over onto its knees and pitched forward onto the floor. Mace and Kit ignited their lightsabers as Agen was eliminated. Palpatine stared at them with more hatred than either of them had ever encountered, a red lightsaber in his right hand.

“Agen!” shouted Kit. He raised his green saber and pointed it at Palpatine. “That was your first mistake. We won’t let you make another. Surrender now, Palpatine.”

Palpatine, still standing by the broken body of Agen Kolar, smirked. “Barging uninvited into a guarded office and arresting a Chancellor who has commited no offense? That’s treason.”

Mace Windu took a step toward the Sith Lord, his violet lightsaber pointed at Palpatine’s heart. “You are under arrest, Chancellor.”

“Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?”

“That’s not a threat, Sidious. That’s a fact.” Mace Windu leapt forward and engaged the seemingly frail old man. To his surprise Palpatine met him halfway by striking out at his chest, which Mace blocked to his left. Despite his best efforts, Mace was being pushed back down the hallway out of the private office. They clashed sabers together, both leaning and pushing all their weight toward one another, Mace trying to get back into the private office and corner the Dark Lord with the help of Kit, and Palpatine trying to get out of the private office to keep from being cornered. Kit Fisto sprung toward Palpatine from the rear, but was shocked to find that each of his blows were blocked without Palpatine even turning to face him.

“Saesee!” yelled Mace to his Iktochi colleague who stood guard at the hallway’s end, but he soon found that Saesee Tiin was busy with his own duel. The three of the four Red Guards that had been forced to the ground were now back on their feet and lashing out at Saesee with their force pikes. Saesee locked his saber with two of their pikes, then kicked the third guard square in the chest to give him some room to work. One guard attacked while the other was distracted by his friend tumbling down the stairs. Taking advantage of this guard’s lack of attention, Saesee slashed him across the chest. He tumbled. The other guard continued to attack, but Saesee parried every blow, soon overpowering the guard and relieving him of his arms just as the kicked-down guard was regaining his wits. Saesee shot his hand out and tossed the guard across the room and slammed him into the far wall, where he moved no more. At this time, the duel was reaching the main office, so Saesee stepped aside until he found room to strike.

Mace’s purple saber swung at Palpatine’s head, but the Sith Lord ducked and took a few steps away from the Jedi. The three Masters lined up before the man, and again tried to get him to surrender. “It’s over, Sidious. Release your weapon and surrender.” said Mace. Palpatine’s top lip curled.

“You don’t know how long I have waited for this,” growled Palpatine. “For the past decade you have sat before my desk and I’ve had to hold back from cleaving your own heads from your body right then and there. But, I knew you would give me the perfect opportunity in time, and you have.” He slashed forward at Mace, which Mace blocked with a twirl of his saber. Saesee came in from the left, lightsaber held high above his head. He swung it downward, but Palpatine slashed up, blocking it, then across to his right to block Kit’s incoming blow, to which Mace had to jump back to avoid being maimed. Now Palpatine turned back and forth between Kit and Saesee, trying to find a hole in their attack. He noticed Saesee constantly left his torso open, holding his lightsaber higher. After a block of Kit’s saber, which came dangerously close to his neck, Palpatine spun around and cleaved Saesee’s chest open. With a yelp, Saesee went limp and fell to the floor.

Dar Wac laid motionless where he had been pushed down by Mace earlier, watching the events unfold before him. Luckily, the duel was moving away from him, and toward the vast window by Palpatine’s desk. So once he was sure everyone’s attention was not focused on anything in his general area, he bolted out the main door and ran through the lobby, out of the duelists’ line of vision. He had endured quite enough excitement for one night.

Kit made a fatal error when he leapt onto Palpatine’s desk. Instead of slashing open the Sith Lord’s back in an effort to stop him, Palpatine spun around and blocked the blow and continued it through Kit’s legs. As Kit fell screaming to the floor, Palpatine slashed through his neck, sending seared tentacles flying in every direction. Mace ran forward and spun his lightsaber to the left and right, blocking this attack, and parrying the next. Their next move shattered the huge window of the office, sending shards of glass falling thousands of stories to the Coruscant traffic below. After a few more blows, Mace was able to strike a kick into Palpatine’s chest. Palpatine’s red saber hummed out of sight and followed the glass down to the planet surface. Palpatine shrank to the corner of the window, and at that very moment, just as he had forseen, a familiar figure came running into the room: Anakin Skywalker.

Supreme Chancellor Palpatine looks up from his deskwork to see five Jedi enter his office. Three are aliens. The other two are Jedi Master Mace Windu and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker.

"Master Windu," the Chancellor greets the Jedi with a nod. "I take it General Grievous has been destroyed then. I must say, you're here sooner than expected."

The Jedi do not acknowledge this compliment. Instead, the three aliens step forward, their hands hovering close to their lightsabers.

Windu is the first to break the silence. With unmistakable smugness in his voice, he says, "In the name of the Galactic Senate of the Republic, you are under arrest, Chancellor."

The Chancellor does not so much as twitch an eyebrow. "What am I accused of?"

"Treason, and conspiracy to treason. It has been brought to our attention that you have been aiding the Separatists in no small way."

"That's . . . a serious charge, Master Jedi." A hint of danger enters his voice. "I hope you can back it up."

A smile appears on Windu's features, one that seems out of place - or out of practice. "Of course, Chancellor. We recently captured a Neimoidian who, under interrogation, confessed your crimes to us."

"Is that so? And where is he now?"

"Unfortunately, he attempted suicide. Our healers are working on him as we speak, but he is not expected to live."

The Chancellor barks out a short laugh. "I would hardly call that a conclusive testimony, Master Jedi. Besides, who would trust a Neimoidian's words?"

"Perhaps not. But there will be corroborating evidence."

"Such as?"

Windu's smile becomes predatory. "Such as you resisting arrest."

"What?"

"You pretended to surrender. Since you are a respected leader, we decided not to bind you. But when we were momentarily distracted, you pulled out a concealed blaster and killed three Jedi."

A deep frown appears, creasing the Chancellor's forehead. "What nonsense are you spouting? I carry no weapons with me. I need none. My bodyguards are more than enough protection."

Windu nods, his face mocking. "Usually."

It takes a moment for the Chancellor to understand the implications of this one-word reply. His eyes turn toward the door, his mind beyond it. "You didn't -"

"But we had to. They forced our hand when they attacked, hoping to save you from the tribunal. That was the diversion, you see, which you took full advantage of using this blaster -" Windu pulls the small weapon out of his robe "- and shooting the Jedi like . . . so."

Before anyone can respond, Windu shoots the three alien Jedi in the back, killing them instantly.

"Master Windu!" Skywalker shouts, his face shocked. "What are you -"

"Be quiet," Windu says without taking his eyes off the Chancellor. "You are only here to observe."

"But this - this isn't the Jedi way!"

"No. It is not." Fury flashes in Windu's eyes. "Nor should it be. But a thousand years ago, the Jedi decided to withdraw from power. To hand over the right to rule to primitives who were deaf and blind to the Force. The time has come to reclaim what is ours."

"And how do you intend to do that?" the Chancellor asks. "The Jedi were never numerous to begin with. This war has made things much worse."

"Only from a certain point of view," Windu replies. "Presently, there are three million soldiers who will unconditionally obey any orders from a Jedi. And we have seen to it that only those who will give the right orders still live."

Realization dawns on the Chancellor's face. His voice is hoarse with horror as he whispers, "Then this war . . . all those deaths and destruction . . . just so you could take control of the galaxy."

"Yes."

"You even sacrificed your own people," the Chancellor continues. "Or were they just pawns to be used and thrown away?"

Windu scowls. "They were necessary casualties. I regret having to kill them, but they lacked the strength to do what must be done. I do not." He turns to Skywalker, his face grimmer than usual. "From strength comes power, and from power victory. This is the Jedi way, Skywalker."

"No!" the Chancellor exclaims. "It may have been, thousands of years ago. But today is not yesterday. This is a more civilized age, Master Jedi. And I will die before letting a religious cult destroy the Republic."

Windu smiles. "Yes. I was hoping you would say that."

He ignites his lightsaber and steps toward the Chancellor.

The Chancellor's eyes dart around the room helplessly, trying to find something that would stop Windu's approach.

"Jedi Skywalker," he pleads. "Don't let this happen!"

Windu laughs. "Skywalker cannot save you, Chancellor. He knows what the future will hold for him if he goes against our wishes."

"But is it any better than the chaos you would bring about?" the Chancellor counters. "Please, Jedi Skywalker - the Jedi have been the guardians of peace and justice for a thousand generations. Don't throw it away for a fanatic's dreams of conquest!"

"Are you finished with your speech, Chancellor?" Windu sneers. "A pity nobody is around to hear it."

"Master Windu," Skywalker begins hesitantly. "Maybe we should -"

"It's too late for that," Windu says. "Our plans are in motion. Stop, even for a moment, and we will fail."

"But -"

"I see that bringing you was a mistake." Windu's eyes narrow in disgust. "There will be plenty of time to discuss things when this is done. Perhaps we will reconsider your position in the new Order. But for now - I am going to end this charade, once and for all."

Windu raises his lightsaber.

The Chancellor staggers backward.

"No!" Skywalker screams.
