	...to the greatest forum in the world, whoa - ho! cue crazy vocalizations Aaaand cut music. Alright, listen. I had to do it. I know it's crazy, maybe a bit silly, but I don't care. Does it deserve its own thread? I don't know, but it means a lot to me so I went ahead and did it anyway. It can't be helped. It's a runaway speedboat of an idea and those things don't stop without first plowing into a large group of unsuspecting children on the coast - and I just couldn't have that. It's been threatening to surface for a while now, like some sort of persistent, inevitable...thing. And now it's out. You can't blame me for what I have no control over. Indeed, like Ray thinking about the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man when he was supposed to clear his mind, it was bound to happen. It stared at me day in and day out, a sentinal; a great digital gatekeeper to the world beyond and promises within. Every nuance was eventually internalized, some parts consciously, others subconsciously. Even the bits that extended past the dimensions of my browser window, eventually, were oncovered and viewed, so often did I enter. And lo, I have no doubt there are others, many others, who have stared down the long, silent sentinal as they entered. Perhaps even you. points, and pauses meaningfully Of course, I'm talking about the long-standing fanfiction banner. It's been there forever. Or long enough to seem like forever in internet years. The purpose of the banner - the goal it strived for - was to essentially encompass the unencompassable. Fanfiction. The GFFA's supersized event horizon beyond which limits are nonexistant. How do you contain this in one single image, long though it may be? How to you reign in such a slippery form of potential energy? Can you? Well, it's hard to say if the banner succeeded completely. I'm sure we all have our theories. In fact, most of us at some point - on considering this for a moment and stumbling upon the vast, horrifying sets of infinities required to grasp the subject matter - shut our minds to it, hoping that in doing so, our sanity might one day heal completely from the gaping wound it just suffered. Or, y'know, you didn't really think about it at all. Whatever the case, friends, dear friends, I posit that there IS one tiny segment of the Fanfiction banner which does ALL of SW Fanfiction justice. It does it succinctly, cleverly, hilariously, poigniantly, seriously, awesomely, and kind of confusingly. What I am refering to, ladies, gentlemen, ladies again (wwwwink), is the tiny pair of characters right in the middle, just off to the left of the semitransparent TIE Fighter. Go and check, I'll wait. ..o-okay, you're at the shadowy guy with the hood, so move a bit to the right again. Oop, left again, you're staring at the holdout. aaand, got it. There ya go. That, folks, is what I've created a tribute to today. Lazer JarJar <-- (psst! it's a link) There is nothing out there which more perfectly and more completely sums up all that is fanfiction, than what appears to be a fully grown Leia clutching and swooning into what appears to be Jar Jar Binks - who appears to be blue - shooting what appears to be a lazer from his mouth. Think about it. Sure, it's probably just a matter of poor color choices, bad composition, a quickly-drawn padme and an out-of-context scene, but that's just IT! What is the very essence of fanfiction but interpretion of that which already exists?? And once you've accepted it, consider the gamut it represents: pairings, action, AUs, comedy, angst, cross-overs, time-travel, horror, romance...the promise of explosions. I rest my case. 	Too long have we as a community tried to banish The Lazer Jar Jar from our reality. We crafted a world where he did not exist. A world that was safer. That made sense to us. And in doing so, we stood upon the threshold of a deeper understanding and did not enter. With a psychic grapefruit spoon, we made ourselves blind to the truth because to acknowledge it was to acknowledge the unknowable. To acknowledge it was to admit that we are not rulers of our domain. We do not make the rules. No, there is something other, something else, that is outside our control. A Lazer Jar Jar. Finally, finally, the long fan fic crisis is over. Finally, one man has dared to step through that door into the true Fan Fiction universe we denied for so long. The universe where Lazer Jar Jar is. As Descartes once was, he simply is. Now this man extends a welcome for us too, to come into a larger world. Some may shiver and turn away to don once more their comfortable masks with little slits for eyes so not much light comes in. But a few - a brave few - will follow him. I salute them. I applaud them. (It's difficult to do both at the same time, let me tell you.) 	(This is technically the hypnotized face, but try to see it as the In-Awe face kicked up a few notches) I am In Awe. Yes, that's PERFECT! That is the essence of fanfic. That is also the highlight of my day. Now write the fic, and I can die in peace. If neccessary. P.S. Days like this kick my cynical outlook on the future of fanfiction back into newbish enthusiasm. How can we cease to exist when we're so frickin amazing? P.P.S. Well said, Face, well said indeed. Would that we all had the searingly honest courage and required number of appendages to salute and applaude what is right, what is true, what is FanFiction at its finest. This is our finest moment... ...Gungankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the 5th of August, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation. We're fighting for our right to live, to exist. And should we win the day, the 5th of August will no longer be known as a random day at the end of summer, but as the day when the Fanfiction forum declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! 	What's all this fuss I keep hearing about lazier Jar Jar in fanfiction? Why don't the moderators want TFN's loyal readers to see a lazier Jar Jar in fanfiction? I personally thought "mesa doin' pretty okie-day" was just a lovely sentiment! If we just restrict a lazier Jar Jar to a secondary, or background character, than our younger readers might miss out, and not learn the appreciation of taking it slow and easy in fanfiction. They'll end up writing action packed adventures featuring Obi-Wan or Anakin, or Luke - then they'll follow Luke into the EU, and become part of one of these NJO outfits who don't like blue milk! I think there should be MORE lazier Jar Jar in fanfiction, and less KOTOR! It's terrible the way ancient Sith Lords try to outshine the majesty of Darth Vad... FACE: psst, ale... We were talkin about LAZER Jar Jar, not lazier Jar Jar in fanfiction... oh. well that's different. FACE: Yes. never mind. 	Master Poof clearly knows Lazer Jar Jar all too well. His silence on the matter is as good as proof that he (and likely the Jedi Council as a whole) does not wish Lazer Jar Jar to become a point of discussion among the community.
