Did you ever write something, work really hard on it, and then were afraid to post it because you think no one is going to read it? It's happening to me right now and I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

It has happened to me with every story I've written. Luckily for me, it always turns out well.

Go ahead and post it and hope for the best.

Yes, it's happened to me, but I post it anyway. If people read it, great. If they don't read it, well at least I know I tried instead of wondering if I should have posted or not.

BTW, one time I posted a story and it didn't get any response for quite awhile (a few weeks). Then all of a sudden, people started responding after it had gone back to the second or third page.

Yes, it's happened to me quite a bit. If you are proud of it, post it. No matter how many people read it, it's your work. You should post it.

Yes, that has happened to me quite a bit. But I post anyway; if it's something I've worked hard on and want to share, I'll post it. If it's something I'm less than proud of, I probably won't. tongue

I've been afraid to post because of reader reactions before. A while back I was afraid to post because of the potential people would come after me armed with cutlery and various pointy objects because I seemingly "killed" off one of the main characters. tongue

It happened to me when I wrote my first story and I posted it. And writing and posting gets sometimes responses, sometimes not but all writing helps you to improve.

I have posted a few stories and got some responses on others it has taken awhile but I am happy to have a small following. Is it wrong to want to have some one really trash your work though. I don't mean spelling or grammar but more like that is so not how that character is, or something to that effect. Maybe I have a masicistic side. I say post at the very least someone will check it out and tell you they thought it rocked

Happens to me a whole lot. tongue

I've noticed if you write something about Jag and Jaina, all kinds of people read your stuff. tongue
Any other characters...well, takes a while until someone will come along and read but eventually some do.

And even if they don't: it's your work. Post it. You've spent hours on writing and it would be a shame for it to just go to waste. hugs

I had a massive whopping readership of 3 for two of my fics, and I would have posted them even if no one was on my PM list. Even if no one reads it while it's being posted they can still read it when it's over. happy

If you want a guarenteed readership, do a few challenges here and there. I always read all the Monday Mush Mania entries, and I usually try and read the other entries for other challenges that I do.

No matter what you think, there's usually somebody around who'll like it.
the last thing I was almost too ashamed to post is running well now. I am still surprised, but I won't complain. Much. (It's a loooong story. *sigh*)
If you are too scared of having it connected to your (good) username, grab a sock and post incognito. wink

That has happened with a lot of stuff I've posted, especially when I first started writing. I've found some things are more popular than others and that's okay. Just write to please yourself. It's always nice to write something that people like but it's more important to be happy with and proud of what you've written.

Good luck! happy

Why do you think no one will reply? Maybe there's something in your story that is controversial or might dissuade people from giving you feedback? You might want to have a beta read it first, and give you some helpful feedback that could make your story more user-friendly.

Certain stories have a hard time picking up readers, for instance, if your story features OCs or characters that many readers aren't familiar with. Also, I find that screenplays are a tough sell. If you want to rework your story to make it more popular, that's something to consider.

However, keep in mind that a good, well-written story will always find an audience. One of my all-time favorite stories is an-all OC story that The_Face wrote. It still hangs with me today because he was able to create someone I really cared about and was so sad to see what happened to her.

To reiterate what's already been said, it's your story. Write it well, and they will come. Don't wait for the audience, and for heaven's sake don't worry "what people will think of me." As Stephen King said, writers have to give up the hope that they will be members of polite society, because eventually you're going to offend everyone if you write the truth.

I have several stories and none have a huge fan base or at least many reviews. I have one new epic I started that has a grand total of 5 reviews. But, if I quit or don't post, then those 5 people will be disappointed.
You have to ask yourself a question. cowboy thinking No, it's not if you feel lucky. The question is are you writing for you, or for the reviewers? As long as you feel confident in the story, that should be the only thing that matters.
And those reviews you want? Take it from one of the greatest actors who died yesterday about reviews.

Whenever I have a story out with no replies I will perversely think, 'OK, now how long can I go without any replies?' But definitely don't let replies be an impediment to posting your story, especially if you feel good about it. You wrote it, post it.

Well, despite some nervousness, I'm going to post it tomorrow, at least chapter 1. It doesn't really have many OCs. The villain is an OC but that's about it.
