Challenge:
Goto said this one line in the game that kind of resonated: "Then stop causing events of planetary destruction. You are a walking catastrophe, and you are not making saving the Republic any easier." I think it's kind of funny, but honestly, it can't feel good to hear that. Could be humor or angsty I guess. Just maybe a oneshot reaction to that and how the Exile is going to deal with such responsibility.
And yes...more Bao-Dur/Exile. Just trying to do my little something to add to the diversity of this little corner of the galaxy...
EDIT: There are two sequels to this story,
Acid Etched
and
Wants
. Read them if you dare!

Bao-Dur wasn’t an idiot. He was twenty-four when he went off to fight, and now he’s ten years older and wiser, and he knows people, especially humans, a lot better than he did when he first left Iridonia. But for the life of him, he can’t figure out what made the General keep talking to G0-T0. The droid was bad news – why bother with it?
Bao-Dur winced as the droid’s words carried into the garage. "Then stop causing events of planetary destruction. You are a walking catastrophe, and you are not making saving the Republic any easier."
He can’t hear what the General says in return, but he can guess. And when she storms angrily through the garage, he’s positioned at just the right place to grab her by the arm and swing her against the wall, pinning her there with his arms against her shoulders.
“Hi, General. Nice to see you so perky this morning,” he says mildly, and she snarls something indecipherable at him. “Now, now, let’s calm down, shall we? You shouldn’t let a droid get you so upset…”
She kicks him between the legs. He winces, then smiles at her even wider than before. “You know, that
really
hurt – or it would have, if I was a human male and my genitals were located there.”
She just narrows her eyes and begins a ‘friendly’ game of kicking him in various places. Bao-Dur just took it silently, still pinning her against the garage wall until the Exile gave up on the search for his genitals and sighed, thumping her head against the wall.
“Feel better now?” He says gently, and she nods sharply.
“You know, that droid really annoys me sometimes,” she says angrily, and he laughs.
“No, really? I hadn’t noticed…”
“Oh, shut up, you. That tackle hurt,” she pouts, and he just shakes his head.
“You have the Force, years of combat experience, and first-hand experience with your opponent, and I take you down in ten seconds. That’s just pathetic.”
“Yeah, yeah. Anyway, is there a reason you decided to pin me up on the wall, or were you just wanting the pleasure of my undivided attention?”
Bao-Dur shrugs, making sure to keep a good hold on
her
shoulders. “Honestly, I figured it was a good time to intervene. Angry humans are easier to deal with than sulky humans, and I doubt the rest of the crew will want to deal with you when you’re in one of your moods, General.”
The Exile opens her mouth, and Bao-Dur just leans forward and presses his forehead against hers.
“You need to let the insults slide off you. You’re too sensitive, and you take the words of people you can’t trust
far
too seriously. It’s all very well to depend on us for support, but in the end, you have to do what you think is right.” He hesitates, wondering if he should continue, and something in him says ‘yes’. “I can’t promise that in the end, you will not regret your actions, but you must do what you think is right. That’s all any of us can do, General.”
The Exile looks at him, and something in her eyes calms down, quiets, and she nods in understanding. “When did you get to be so wise, Lieutenant?”
“Oh, I’ve always been like this, ma’am. You just never noticed,” he says, grinning, and he lifts his head up from hers.
…i noticed more than you think…
Bao-Dur pauses, and shakes his head.
“Something wrong?” the Exile asks concernedly, and he just smiles at her.
“Nothing. Just an itch in my head. Now, if I let you go, will you promise not to hurt me?”
The Exile rolls her eyes and sighs heavily. “Yes, yes, I promise not to exact my great and terrible revenge on you,” she recites flatly.
“Good to hear,” he says in return, and he takes his arms off her shoulders and steps away from her body quickly. As the Exile makes a show of stretching her arms and twisting her back, he turns away, intent on getting back to the scaffolding.
His mistake.
“Gotcha!” he hears, right as a heavy, armor-reinforced form crashed into him, smacking him into the ground.
“Did you
really
think you could escape from my wrath unharmed?” is whispered into his ear, and then the Exile pulls herself to her feet and walks away, whistling. Bao-Dur just rolls over onto his back and laced his fingers beneath his head, groaning as he did so.

I do like these two, though I know very little of either. This fic makes them quite intriguing. Love the last line.

Like you needed an excuse!

Good question. Game mechanics? Human sympathy? Masochism? Force insight? Trying to make HK jealous? Trying to make
him
jealous?
(and yes, that was the literal order they occurred to me
)

That's... normal behaviour for a Zabrak in this situation?
And if it is, does it mean something different for a Zabrak? Or is it just that the appropriate context is different for a Zabrak?
She kicks him between the legs. He winces, then smiles at her even wider than before. “You know, that

You do realise you just combined two of the deepest male neuroses in a single plotpoint?
That, or Bao has a force-shield in his boxers...
“Yeah, yeah. Anyway, is there a reason you decided to pin me up on the wall, or were you just wanting the pleasure of my undivided attention?”
The question we've all been waiting for...!
The Exile opens her mouth, and Bao-Dur just leans forward and presses his forehead against hers.
Forehead? Again... what does the reaction mean - is the body language different? Or the sense of appropriateness? Both? Neither

Again, I like that - I don't know what you
meant
by it, but there are questions raised there that I'm having trouble put into words... she seems to need him to be the mentor/lieutenant (is that a paradox?) and then she teases him, shows her power and suggests that her words are simpy an invitation for a response - a quiet breath to be answered by a confident smile...
He, on the other hand, is quite literally caught between two of her, saying different things...
Every word has a meaning, describes something that suggests something... but each could mean several things, from different POVs - there seem to be several simultaneous Bao/Ex parings of different sorts here (mentor/protégé, ruler/adviser, General/Lieutenant, friends, lovers, Jedi/non-Jedi, probably mistress/slave, as well as human/Zabrak, straight-man/gag-man and predator/prey)... all of them exploring just how far they can come into being and still coexist...

Human girls were

But why? Is it the tackle, the whisper, or the whistle?

That's because Exile and Bao-Dur are snarky!

*grins* It's OK - you shouldn't avoid BftS just becuase of that!
But I clicked by accident, and found this...
By accident?!
*splutters*
*grins*
More later. I'm not quite sure what to make of this one now. But I enjoyed it.
Then my primary purpose has been fulfilled!
Like you needed an excuse!
Shh! Don't tell anybody my dreadful secret!
Good question. Game mechanics?
*shrugs* Unless you're DS, he doesn't really offer any interesting info.
Human sympathy?
Eh.
Masochism?
Yes. Dealing with him was like Chinese water torture.
Force insight?
Into a brick, you mean...
Trying to make HK jealous?
Interestingly enough, HK couldn't
stand
G0-T0...
Trying to make
him
jealous?
Bao-Dur isn't jealous, 'cause he's a mechanic and he knows droids aren't really that interesting...
Except for HK, of course.
(and yes, that was the literal order they occurred to me)
*giggles* You're strange...
That's... normal behaviour for a Zabrak in this situation?
Research shows that Zabraks are independent-minded people with a curious streak a mile long (thus the dozen or so colonies in the Outer Rim as of the Mandalorian Wars), who seem to focus on military-grade weaponry. Their homeplanet is really nasty to live on, and they have two hearts for some reason.
So...yeah.
And if it is, does it mean something different for a Zabrak? Or is it just that the appropriate context is different for a Zabrak?
They don't seem to have been touched upon much in the EU...I just seem them as a very physical people. They have excellent vibroblades and armor, they have nice grips and edges for melee weapons... They're into close-contact fights, maybe as a cultural thing.
But more than that, it's a Bao-Dur thing. Up until Malachor V, he's portrayed as a fairly normal Zabrak guy, albeit one with unusual skills. Therefor, anything he does after is still in the parameters of the Zabrak mindset. And he's not at all shy about getting into your personal space or talking to you about things you'd rather he didn't - although he's a hypocrite in that regard, because he definitely doesn't let
you
talk about other things with
him
.
You do realise you just combined two of the deepest male neuroses in a single plotpoint?
Getting kicking between the legs is one, but the other....?
That, or Bao has a force-shield in his boxers...
*not telling*
The question we've all been waiting for...!
*laughs*
Forehead? Again... what does the reaction mean - is the body language different? Or the sense of appropriateness? Both? Neither
I don't know... All I know is that people with their faces pressed together is very...intimate, and it felt right in the position they're in. Kissing or anything like that wouldn't have felt right, but the natural progression of their contact - from no contact, to high contact, to almost full-contact, then back again.
There's...symmetry.
He should have been a Jedi?
Technically, he can become one in the game, but I prefer him and Mira un-Jedified...
Again, I like that - I don't know what you meant by it, but there are questions raised there that I'm having trouble put into words... she seems to need him to be the mentor/lieutenant (is that a paradox?) and then she teases him, shows her power and suggests that her words are simpy an invitation for a response - a quiet breath to be answered by a confident smile...
Mental leaking, I guess. But you're right about their relationship. It's just...things are complicated, yeah? You have friends, and you have the fact that even though he's older and more experienced, she's the superior, and yes, you have sexual tension, inasmuch as I can write it.
And, yes. Because the fun in Bao/Ex is in the fact that they're relationship is so ill-defined, and the fact that they're both adults. You can have a relationship on more than one level. And yes, you can be friends and
more
at the same time - I've seen it!
...although not in fanfic...
But - mistress/slave?
You're kinky...
But why? Is it the tackle, the whisper, or the whistle?
Or something else...?
All three? Neither? Remember, the Exile is human, and Bao-Dur isn't. He's trying to judge her as a human, and it doesn't always work, especially considering that he might not always have the best understanding of human psychology, or Jedi psychology.
And the Exile is a little strange.

that was a great little piece! glad i saw it this time! i loved the last bao-dur/exile that started at the cantina, and this one was just as good! (though a bit shorter! but despite my regret that the piece was over, you said everything you needed to say well, so i suppose i just have to hope that you write more later!)
their relationship is so much fun to read. it's obvious they're close friends, and to me, it always seems like it could be more then that at any given moment. i half expected bao-dur to kiss her during the whole thing..
but in many ways it's more interesing not crossing that line.. it worked on the x-files for years i suppose!
fantastic job!
