In the misty morning sky, the Ossus sun bloomed golden-red. Brisk, cool air nipped playfully at noses and ears. Colorful leaves fell from trees and scattered on the ground. The force of repulsorlifts sent the leaves dancing in frenzied whirlwinds.
Two fighters touched down on the already crowded landing pad. One was a beautiful Sekotan vessel fashioned of smooth green coral. The other was a rather battered X-Wing, bearing the markings of Sword Squadron. Faded, scratched, barely visible, designs painted on the side depicted running voxyn.
The fighters opened, allowing their respective pilots to climb out of the cramped cockpits. From the Sekotan fighter climbed an aging man. Not short, not tall, he was of lean build. Silver hair crowned his head, and several days' worth of gristly grey stubble covered the lower half of his jaw. Weary, but happy green eyes were set in a lined, thin-featured face. He patted the side of his ship affectionately as he walked by, golden wedding band glinting in the soft sun.
A short woman in a midnight blue flightsuit leaped down from her X-Wing. Shedding her helmet, she shook out a mane of thick brown hair, the first strands of grey hair threading around her temples. Both fighters powered down as the two pilots met, clasping hands tightly and instinctively. A deep love and trust between them was evident in the simple way they leaned against each other, the way he ran his thumb over the simple band on her ring finger.
Both paused, enjoying a tranquil moment of peace.
“Mommy! Daddy! Mommy!” A little boy's shrieks shattered the morning quiet. Smiles graced the couple's lips as they saw their children approach.
Anakin's smile was radiant as his big sister set him down. The moment his feet touched the ground, he ran as fast as his pudgy, five-year-old legs could carry him. Excitement was written all over his round face. Unable to decide which parent to throw himself at first, he simply charged at both so that they caught him at the same time.
Following at a calmer pace, wolf-eyed Riya's normally blank face was covered in a wide smile. Cloaked in a brown Jedi robe, the farsighted girl seemed older than her ten years. Riya was a spot much brighter in the Force than her parents. Nevertheless, the sedate dignity eminating from the girl did not stop her father from scooping her off the ground in a bear hug.
Their mother, balancing Kin-Kin (as he was called) on one hip, pulled her oldest son into a tight, one armed hug. Tall, lanky Zeth, the spitting image of his father, grinned and kissed his mother on the cheek. “Mom. Dad. We've missed you.” He exchanged a handshake and half-hug with his father.
But there was one of their children who stayed away. Cari, seventeen years old, with her cold eyes and calmly furious face. She let her gaze linger on the scene for a brief moment. Making eye contact with her parents, she sent them a look of uttermost hate. Then, turning on her heel, she walked away without a backwards glance.
Shaken to her core, the woman immediately reached out for her husband. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders in a comforting gesture, but through their link, she knew he was just as pained.
Of all of their children, it was Cari that Kyp and Jaina worried about the most.

i like it!
Except I'm a tad confused and therefore I must ask...
On your list of characters, you have one 2 as Durrom children.....but on the chapter is seems as though there are more than 2.
Am I getting this right?

Great start
Smuggler Shidakis
. Plan to record this in my nav-computer so I can stay with the story.
Now why is Carida so angery at her parents? Also, is her misguided rage any simbolism to the fact that Kyp destroyed Carida out of misguided anger and hate
(cause for some reason I seem to think that).
Look forward for your next post.

Heh, just noticed the sig line "I will convert them all"....no need to convert me love.... already there!
Thanks for doing this.... looking forward to the rest.

PS, perhaps if anyone other than Gina read this... if you have no clue what I was saying about the OC's, go read

RE: Learning to Believe (Post-NJO, K/J and kids, Ben/OC)
His knighting ceremony was in two days.
Ben Skywalker could scarcely believe it. He had trained and learned and practiced, his whole life, for the day he would finally become a true Jedi Knight.
Admittedly, the Holonet news cameras made him nervous. He knew they were on Ossus to watch him, Ben Skywalker. The public expected him to eventually become the new head of the Jedi Order. He knew that he wouldn't be; when his father passed on, that role would go to Jacen Solo, and after him, perhaps Ben's cousin Riya. But it would not be Ben. Truth be told, he didn't want it. Didn't want the responsibility of the entire Jedi Order resting on his shoulders.
The holoreporters would pay little attention to the others being knighted, the ones Ben had grown up with and learned with. Laur, his best friend (and, secretly, girlfriend), would get more, but only because of her connection to him; it was obvious the two would be partners. The spotlight was on him.
The holocameras were there for him, Ben Skywalker, son of the infamous Master Luke Skywalker.
Oh, how he hated the public eye! Holoreporters were rarely, if ever, allowed on Ossus. Ossus was the Jedi sanctuary, where they could have privacy and solitude, or the company of the other Jedi, if they desired it. Luke was loth to permit them to attend the ceremony, but understood that to deny them would insult most of the galaxy.
“Ben.” A voice jolted him out of his thoughts.
He looked up at the short, curvy, blue figure standing in his doorway. A smile instantly lit his features. “Laur.” He rose and crossed the room, pressing a kiss to her lips as he shut the door. She responded instantly, wrapping slender arms around his neck.
When they finally pulled away, Ben lifted a hand to her face, studying her. “What's wrong?”
Laur sighed. “Your cousins are here.”
“Which ones?"
“Jaina and Kyp got in this morning; Tahiri's going to be here in an hour or two. With her mob of kids, who will soon be running rampant. How many is it, now?”
“Nine, I think,” Ben replied thoughtfully. “She'll have every orphan on Zonoma Sekot under her wing before long.” He looked down at her. “You didn't answer my question.” Idly, his fingers traced patterns on her lekku.
Laur averted her gaze. “It's nothing, really, just... Your whole family is here for the knighting...”
Ben understood. “Your aunt and uncle didn't come.”
Suddenly angry, Laur whirled from his embrace. “Why am I not good enough?” she cried. “I'm a Jedi! I'm going to be knighted, as a warrior, as a guardian of peace! Why isn't that good enough for them?” Frustration pouring out of her like blood from a wound, she lashed out at the wall with her fist.
Startled, and concerned, Ben took her bruised hand in his, drawing her close. “You're too good for them.” He brushed a kiss to the base of one of her lekku. Her silent tears leaked through his shirt.
“Why can't I be good enough?” she whispered into his chest.
--
Beru Skywalker was seventeen years old, with her mother's green eyes, her father's sandy hair, and an affinity for fire. Oh, she wasn't a pyromaniac, per say.
But she was rather fond of it.
In her quarters, candles flickered on various surfaces, letting out a variety of scents. The tiny tongues of flame cast dancing shadows of light and dark across the tiny, energetic teenager's face .
Concentrating on the single flame on the tall blue candle in front of her, Berry was deep in meditation, something entirely uncommon for her. Berry would much rather be out wreaking havoc with her cousin Dale or tormenting her older brother than be cooped up in her room. Beru's personality simply didn't allow her to sit still for extended periods of time; she simply danced about at lightspeed, pausing occasionally for fuel- and for such a tiny slip of a girl, she ate quite a bit- or for a few hours of impatient sleep.
Today, however, meditation was necessary, because Berry suddenly found that she had a lot to think about.
Her brother was being knighted the next day, along with his best friend and girlfriend Laur. The two were planning on leaving Ossus about a week after the ceremony. Ben expressed an interest in visiting Dagobah, and Laur wasn't about to let him go off without her.
Not only were Ben and Laur going off, but two of her cousins had been taken on as apprentices. Zeth and Dale had both been apprenticed to Zeth's father, Kyp Durron. Berry feared that her cousins would soon be leaving with their new master to have adventures.
Without her.
At least, she thought, she would have Cari for company. Cari, another of her cousins, was completely Force-blind, and was on Ossus only because she had nowhere else to be. However, Cari had become more and more distant of late, spending large amounts of time locked up in her room and refusing to come out.
Their tight-knit group would soon be breaking up, leaving Berry to wave goodbye and wait, alone, on Ossus. No Jedi masters had asked her to become their apprentice. She had considered, once or twice, asking Tahiri Veila to train her, but Tahiri had an increasing brood of adopted children to look after, and Berry didn't want to be a nuisance. It seemed she was doomed to carry out the rest of her training at the Academy, with her parents and intructors.
Beru was jolted out of her deep thought by several loud raps on her door. Scowling, she blew out the candle in front of her, and extinguished the rest with a wave of her hand. “Come in!” she called.
Wearing a concerned look, Dallyn Ren Solo Djo, heir to the throne of Hapes, entered Berry's quarters. Her bloodshot gray eyes had large bags underneath. The Hapan princess look very tired as she sat down on her best friend's bed. She sniffed the air experimentally and arched a copper brow. “Having fun with candles, were we?”
“Meditating,” Berry corrected absently, replacing the blue candle on its shelf. “What's up?”
Dale sighed. “Uncle Kyp and Aunt Jay are here. I'm hiding.”
“From Jaina and Kyp?” Berry asked in surprise.
“No,” Dale said. “From Cari.”
Berry winced. “How bad is it?”
“She's not speaking to them,” Dale answered, shaking her head in resignation. “Aunt Jay is a wreck.”
“Oh, no,” Berry moaned. “Where is Cari now?”
“In her room, as per usual. Probably won't be out for dinner. Why?”
Berry's face was grim. “I'm calling an emergency war council.”
In contrast, a wide Solo grin spread across Dale's features. “I'll bring the tater crisps.”

! It was truly worth waiting for.
My favorite line was this:
a wide Solo grin spread across Dale's features. “I'll bring the tater crisps.”
Look forward to more.

Gina, i love this story!!!! Poor Laur. Carida is interesting . . . wonder what made her hate Jaina and Kyp.
Cari, another of her cousins, was completely Force-blind
That might have something to do with it.
