Title:
Sibling Rivalry.
Author:
Jedi-Ant.
Timeframe:
LOTF Era AU
Genre:
Vignette - Humour
Characters:
Jagged Fel, Chak Fel, Evlyn Tabory.
Summary:
Jag and Chak engage in some friendly competition over the sassy Evlyn.
Status:
Complete
Notes:
This is an entry for the
Pirates! Quotations Roulette Challenge
(POTC).
I picked quote # 47, and got:
"You need to find yourself a girl, mate."
Sibling Rivalry.
As the simulation program wound to a close, Jagged Fel breathed a sigh of relief. Unless he was sorely mistaken, he’d just set a new record for one-on-one space combat.
And it took
how many
years for the Chiss to be experienced enough to fly a claw?
The young human chuckled to himself as he crawled out of the machine, which was basically a glossy black brick on the outside, with all the buttons, knobs and panels of a claw craft on the inside.
His elder brother, Chak, was waiting for him on the other side of the training room, just as he had been every other day for the past month.
When Jag approached him, the older man shook his head.
“What?”
“You’re so predictable, Jagged!” Chak told him, laughing good-humouredly.
The young pilot rolled his eyes at his brother’s amusement and headed in the direction of the combat arena. “I don’t see anything wrong with getting in a bit of extra practice,” he huffed defensively.
“A
little
extra practice? You practically
live
in that simulator, so I wouldn’t exactly call that a
little
bit of practice.”
“Practice keeps me alive while others die. I don’t have a problem with it.”
“You need to find yourself a girl, mate,”
Chak said, poking him in the ribs affectionately. “Then I’m sure you’d see things differently.”
The pair stopped on the edge of a blue training mat, and watched the duo currently sparring, waiting for them to complete their sequence so they could take their turn.
A thin leg shot out at their heads momentarily, before whipping around and connecting with the face of a rather bulky-looking Chiss soldier.
The alien fell to his knees instantly, closing his red eyes and clutching his throbbing cheek to dull the pain.
“Best of three?” the injured Chiss’ sparring partner asked, giggling slightly. When the alien didn’t respond, his female partner shrugged her shoulders and smirked. “I guess that’s a no then.”
She ran a hand through her wavy chestnut hair, which had been pulled back in a loose ponytail, the movement lifting her tight tank top slightly and exposing her midriff.
Jag eyed the human girl appreciatively, a small smile playing at his lips. “Like her?”
“No, of course not!” Chak hissed under his breath, shooting furtive glances at the young woman. “You know very well that I…” He stopped mid-sentence when he saw the mirth shining in his brother’s green eyes, and upon learning that he was being toyed with, punched him in the arm hard.
“Oh, so you
didn’t
mean the only human female in this facility that wasn’t our sister!” Jag joked, rubbing the reddening spot on his arm automatically.
He could see his sibling was about to lose it as a hot crimson flush crept up his neck, but he was saved from a verbal lashing as the lithe form of Evlyn Tabory flounced in between them.
On her way past, she looked over her shoulder so that she could see both of them, and purred: “You boys wouldn’t be talking about little old me, would you?”
Evlyn winked at them teasingly, and both sets of mouths fell open in pure mortification at the fact the young soldier may have overheard their conversation.
Jag followed the subtle curve of her body as she sat down on a nearby bench and grabbed for a towel behind her, dabbing lightly at her perspiring forehead and crossing her legs firmly.
She truly was a sight to behold, and he could definitely see why she had his sibling all tied in knots.
He peeled his eyes away from the girl and stifled a laugh as his gaze fell on his elder brother, mouth still agape. “You might want to close that,” he told him, nudging at Chak’s jaw with a balled up fist and snorting. “And wipe the drool off your chin as well.”
Before his words had even registered with the other man, Jag leapt onto the now vacant training mat, and, upon seeing the delighted expression on Evlyn’s face, stripped his upper torso of clothing.
This
did
get a reaction from Chak, who, after flashing his brother a durasteel-melting glare, proceeded to take his own shirt off.
On the other side of the arena, Evlyn let out a small squeal of glee, and Jag was pleased to note that her coffee-coloured eyes shone as she looked them up and down. “How about we make this interesting?” she called across the void.
“Define interesting,” Jag told her.
“Alright,” she replied, rising to her feet and sauntering over to them, the towel still clutched in her hand. “Whoever wins the spar can take me out to dinner – winner’s choice.”
Jag’s eyebrows shot to his hairline, and Chak sputtered beside him.
“T-take you out to d-dinner?”
“Anywhere you like,” she purred, grinning shyly. “Sound fair?”
“I’m in,” the younger Fel said, shaking Evlyn’s free hand to seal the deal. Chak just nodded mutely, clearly lost in the pretty redhead’s curves.
“May the best man win,” Evlyn giggled, perching herself on the edge of the mat to get an optimum view of the match.
The two men came together in the centre and touched fists, before taking half a dozen steps back, and readying themselves for the first blow. Jag didn’t wait for his brother to give the opening punch, ducking low and bringing his leg around in a rapid slash.
Chak wasn’t ready for such a maneuver, falling to his feet as his sibling’s booted foot made contact with the back of his knees. He fell hard, the force of the impact knocking the breath out of him momentarily, and giving Jag the upper hand.
“Not so quick in your old age, huh?” he taunted, spreading his legs in a wide combat stance and waiting for his partner to get back up.
“I’m not that much older than you,” Chak growled in response, easing himself to a standing position once more. “And I’m not that slow, either.”
With that, he thrust his palm out in a judo-like technique, catching his brother in the middle of his throat and rendering him breathless.
While Jag struggled with his paralyzed wind pipe, Chak paraded around the mat, flexing his exposed muscles and flashing cocky grins at the crouching Evlyn.
She found the whole situation extremely amusing, and as the youngest Fel huffed and wheezed from the blow to his neck, he thought he saw tears in her eyes, she was laughing so hard.
In retaliation to his partner’s cheap shot, Jag took one himself, pounding his sibling on his lower spine with both hands clasped together while his back was turned.
Chak groaned loudly as he came crashing down, but his brother saved him from eating mat, grabbing him around the collar bone and holding him in a tight headlock.
“Had enough yet?” Jag asked him through clenched teeth, as he brought a closed fist up to the other man’s shaven head and began to grind in into his crown roughly.
“Y-y-you w-w-wish!” Chak ground out through the vibrations.
While Jag was continuing to give his sparring partner’s head a good rubbing, a knee snaked its way up his leg and jabbed painfully in his groin.
The soldier dropped like a sack of swamp vegetables, curling himself into the fetal position, and crying tearlessly.
Now free from his brother’s grasp, Chak rose shakily from the floor, smirking down at the rolling figure at his feet. When Jag failed to continue the fight, he lifted his hands in the air and roared in triumph.
Turning to the now standing form of Evlyn, the elder Fel announced, “I guess that means we’re going to dinner tonight.”
“Tonight?” she echoed, her face falling a little. “Oh, no, I’m sorry, Chak, I can’t.”
“B-but you said… you said…”
“I know,” she cooed, stepping forward to give his flexed bicep a small squeeze, “And I’m sorry. You did win fair and square, and you
will
get to take me out, just not tonight.”
“What’s so important that you can’t go to dinner?” he asked her, his voice low and strained.
“Practice,” Evlyn said simply. “I’ve got a flight simulator with my name on it, and there’s no way I’m going to give my spot up for anything; I’ve had that booked out for weeks!” She flashed Chak an apologetic smile, and then headed out in the direction of the simulation rooms.
By this stage, Jag had almost fully recovered from the shot to his groin, and gave his brother a soft pat on the shoulder. “Looks like practice isn’t so bad after all,” he said with a shrug, staring after the retreating form of the young redhead.
On impulse, Jag cupped his hands around his mouth and called after her. “Hey, Evlyn? You want to double sim?”
“Sure!” she yelled over her shoulder as she neared the exit. “But I must warn you, I fly pretty rough.”
“Rough, I can do!”
Jag gave his brother a roguish grin. “I think I may have found myself a girl after all. Thanks for the tip!”
He took off for the simulation arena before he received a reply, leaving Chak cursing in his wake.
Thanks for a wonderfully enjoyable challenge,
SparrowSwan

Chak didn't know what he was doing when he made that comment to his brother, did he? The fight was very well written - very rough and tumble, no holds barred for brothers - reminds me of my childhood lol!
What a fun vignette Ant!

Nice one, Ant! I like this.
I'm not really familiar with this Evlyn character, but if she's good-looking, then maybe Jag should try to win her over and forget about Jaina. Maybe
she
should be the first queen of the Fel dynasty.
Also, it's refreshing to see Jag with his brother, especially fighting over a girl. Not to mention funny. And Evlyn simply stringing Chak along was mean, but well worth it to read about Jag's smug reaction.
If there's any EU profic authors out there, I think we may have found a new woman for Jagged Fel! Forget about Jaina, this spunky redhead sounds perfect for him!

That was great...
I loved the use of two very underused characters.
This got me to thinking of what has happened to Evlyn.
And the rivalry was well played out. Plus shirtless Jag...

Ok... well, I'm a little late with these replies (ok, a
lot
late!)
, so now I'm playing catch up with everything...
Maggy:

Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Oh, shirtless Jag is the best!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the fight scene.
What a fun vignette Ant!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the review!
SparrowSwan:
I like that Evlyn! She gets to watch both guys fight over her, then she gets to go with both of them anyway! She knows she's running the roost.
She does indeed!
And I love Evlyn! She's great, and she doesn't get nearly enough page time - in profic
or
fanfic. Hopefully I can change that...
Great response!!
Thank you very much!
It was a wonderfully fun challenge - thank you so much for hosting it!

Thanks.
Really wonderful.
Thank you!
And it's funny, I've been thinking a lot about Evlyn lately...msut be all that talk Qwi and I have been doing about under utilized canon characters..
Ah... don't even get my started on Evlyn's disappearance from profic...
... it bothers me almost as much as Tahiri's.
And now you've got
me
thinking... there really is a lot that aren't used to their potential...
Pointing out the blatanly obvious - TAHIRI, and then continuing on with Evlyn, who I absolutely
adore
... and then there's Valin, and his sis Jysella, who are both awesome, and the Fel siblings (thank goodness Jag's back!), and Tekli (where is she since Myrkr? Still on Sekot, I presume?), and Tesar Sebatyne! Argh!
I could go on and on!
At least Myri Antilles is getting some page time at last... or so I've heard. Yes, I'm still yet to read Exile
I'll get to it sometime this year, when the bookstores here decide to sell it. *sighs*
Ok, I'll wrap this up now and just say thank you for reading!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
KELIA:
Nice to see Jag get the better of Chak.
*nods*
Yes. Although, I'm a little partial to Chak as well, and if they both could have won, I would have done that.
Chak...
Great response to the challenge
Thank you very much! Glad you stopped by.
Arwen_Djo:
hehe. very nice
Thanks!
Furyan_Jedi_13:
Nice one, Ant! I like this.
Thank you!
I'm not really familiar with this Evlyn character, but if she's good-looking, then maybe Jag should try to win her over and forget about Jaina. Maybe she should be the first queen of the Fel dynasty.
That's a very good point, and actually, I
do
have them paired together in a 'fic I'm working on... on second thought, make that
two
'fics I'm working on where they're involved.
She really is a great character, and a wonderful match for Jag.
If you'd like more info on Evlyn (because she's so great!), read Survivor's Quest, which is about the only canon book she appears in (it's a fabulous read!), or check out
wookieepedia
.
Also, it's refreshing to see Jag with his brother, especially fighting over a girl. Not to mention funny. And Evlyn simply stringing Chak along was mean, but well worth it to read about Jag's smug reaction.
Thanks. *grins* I'm glad you liked that part. And I agree - it is nice to see Jag interact with his brother. Chak is another favourite under-used character of mine
If there's any EU profic authors out there, I think we may have found a new woman for Jagged Fel! Forget about Jaina, this spunky redhead sounds perfect for him!
She sure does, and I wish the authors would bring her into Legacy somewhere along the line, but I don't think that's possible.
Maybe the next series, perhaps?
Thanks for reading!
Tahi:
Ha ha - poor old Chak. Poetic justice for the cheap shot on Jag I guess though . . . LOL So I guess we could say both Fel boys got felled in a manner of speaking.
LOL!
Yes, you could say that
Thanks for reading,
Tahi
!
Flowerlady:
That was great...
Thanks.
I loved the use of two very underused characters.
This got me to thinking of what has happened to Evlyn.
Thanks again. Yes, both Chak Fel and Evlyn are very under-used, although I'm not sure if Chak counts, seeing as he supposedly died a while back
But Evlyn is still very much alive, from what I gather, and I really wish the authors would bring her back.
I'd love to know what happened to her, too. I guess she's still with the Chiss, and I envision her working with them like the Fel children, but because there's been no clarification, no one can be sure.
And the rivalry was well played out. Plus shirtless Jag...
Another shirtless Jag fan
If it were up to me, Jag would be shirtless for the entire Legacy series...
Wonderful
Thank you again!
A big THANK YOU to everyone who's read and reviewed, and also just to everyone who's clicked and read!
You guys are awesome!
Ant.
