I saw "Han/Leia in-between ANH and ESB" and thought, "Han/Leia between ESB and RotJ?" . . . and then a rabbit bit me. Hurray for weird vision. 
As always, comments and criticisms of all kinds are welcome.

Alone With Han
Leia looked at the white prison cell walls, wondering how many meters of duracrete lay between her and freedom. She also looked up at the ceiling and down at the floor, trying to see if there were any convenient air vents she could use to escape. She even looked past the cell bars, hoping to catch the eye of her jailor. She didn't know much about using her feminine wiles, but she figured it was worth a shot. If nothing else, it would keep her mind off her cellmate - who, fortunately, was not in a talkative mood.
Then again, people frozen in carbonite usually weren't.
"Hello?" she called out. "Can anybody hear me?"
Forget it, a voice thick in sarcasm floated into her head. Even if they can hear you, they ain't gonna come.
"Oh really?" she snapped at the black slab that had been propped up against the wall. It felt silly, talking to Han's silent face. But it was better than talking to herself . . . if only by a very small margin, anyway. "And how would you know?"
You were caught by Boba Fett, Princess. He wouldn't put us somewhere we could get out of that easy.
Thinking about the bounty hunter made shivers go down her spine. Just hours ago, she'd received word that Fett's ship, the Slave I, had been seriously damaged in a fight with other bounty hunters. Knowing Han was still onboard, Leia had she raced to the scene, hoping for a chance to rescue the scoundrel she loved.
The rescue had been a success - up to the part where Fett appeared out of nowhere with a blaster pointed at her, telling her the price on her head was higher if she was taken alive but he would settle for less. It was clear from the tone of his voice that he rarely used the blaster's stun setting.
It was a trap, you know, Han's voice said. I bet Fett sent you the comm himself. Did you check it?
"No," Leia admitted. "I didn't have the time. A comm trace would have taken too long, and you would've been at Jabba's."
Oh, sure. Blame it on me.
"I am not blaming you!" she cried. However, she knew too well there were others who would.
Certain people in the Rebel Alliance did not approve of her rescue mission. While they agreed that Han Solo needed rescuing, they didn't feel that Leia should be in command. Her feelings for Han might influence her judgment if it was necessary to triage the situation. In other words, they thought she might keep throwing resources into the rescue even when it was obvious there was no hope of success.
One of those resources that they could not afford to lose was Leia herself. Due to the nature of the Rebellion, there were very few people who had received formal training for government. Leia was one of them, and when the Empire was overthrown she would be vital in rebuilding the Republic.
But here she was, locked inside a prison cell while waiting for Fett's ship to be repaired.
Nice going, Worship, the voice that was so annoyingly like Han's said. You did real good.
"You would have done a better job, I suppose?"
At least you wouldn't catch me going up against someone I couldn't handle. But that's your style, huh?
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Oh, you know. You and the Empire. Fleas on a bantha, if you get what I mean.
"Why, you . . . you . . ." Caught speechless, Leia raised her hand to slap him and stopped herself when her hand was only centimeters away from the cold, black surface.
"Calm down, girl," she told herself. "Han wouldn't say that. Well, maybe he would, but not in that tone of voice. He knows how much it means to me."
Which meant . . . what? The voice had to have come from somewhere. If it didn't come from her knowledge of Han's character, where could it have originated?
So that's what you think of me, huh? Just another scumbag?
"No," she said firmly, "I don't. Because you aren't."
Hey, I don't mind, Princess. The voice was turning overly cynical and sarcastic, the way Han's did when he was hurt. If you don't think I'm good enough for you, fine. I don't think you're bad enough for me, either.
"Han," she said, her voice taking an exasperated edge. This was no time to have an argument with someone who, strictly speaking, was not part of the conversation. "You know I don't think that way about you. You've been listening too much to Dolle. I thought you didn't believe anything he said about . . . about us."
Leia stopped, a frown on her face. "Where did that come from?" she wondered out loud. Dolle was part of the acquisitions team that somehow managed to scrounge together enough parts and supplies to keep their Rebel cell going. He was always going head to head with Han, who preferred to make a profit when he dealed.
Dolle was also the most vocal opponent to this rescue mission.
Leia laughed at her sudden realization. It wasn't Han she'd been arguing with. It was Dolle. She had only heard it in Han's voice because he was, technically, in the same cell. That, and because she wanted to talk to him, so that they could continue the conversation the carbon freeze unit had cut short . . .
She heard the sound of a muffled explosion, then felt it as the sound waves made their way through the duracrete walls. Leia let out a shriek and ducked as the carbonite slab fell away from the wall it was propped up against, stopping only a short distance from her head when it struck the opposite wall. Although his expression was frozen, Leia could swear she saw him leering at her.
It's a good thing these cells are small, huh?
"Han, be quiet!"
"Princess Organa?" a voice called out. It was Page, one of the commandos Leia had dragged along with her as backup.
"In here!" she yelled. "Thank the Force you're here," she added when he appeared with a laser cutter and started applying it to the bars.
Huh. You ever notice how something always turns up when we're having these moments together?
"Shh. We can talk later."
"What did you say?" Page shouted over the cutter's noise.
"Nothing! Did you bring a repulsorsled?" Leia shouted back, gesturing at Han.
"No time! We'll have to leave him here."
Leia bit back a curse. To go back empty handed, after she'd come so close . . .
"Princess? We have to go now."
A voice at the back of her head muttered something about triage. This time Leia could positively identify it as Dolle's. And this time, she agreed with what he had to say.
She exited the cell through the hole Page had cut, then straightened her back and turned towards Han's frozen figure. She said, "We'll get you out of there, Han. You can count on it."
And then she left - but not before hearing Han say, I know.

SHE LEFT HIM BEHIND!??  ACK!  *falls over in shock*
And here I thought this would be a nice AU, and you'd have her unfreeze Han and rescue him before he was delivered to Jabba!
(still, for NOT being an AU, it was a wonderful insight into Leia's confused mind!)

Dear PonyTricks, my thought exactly!
How could she leave him? Well, obviously she had no choice, but still... A very bittersweet moment, but I really liked how Frozen Han fell over Leia, turning it into an intimate moment (too bad having all that carbonite stuck between them). Wonderful story, I really enjoyed it!

Excellent viggie!! Leia not thawing Han out as soon as she could may not have been the best idea knowing Fett was nearby. Who knows. I still love this story and am jealous that I didn't think of it. You left it wide open for part two! Great work, bud!

This was one of those rare fics that I got the beginning right on the first try. I'm glad you liked it.

I try to keep my fics from becoming AUs unless they start out that way. And besides, the way my mind is geared, unfreezing Han before his delivery would not result in a nice AU. *swats away a small but malignant plot bunny*

Wellll . . . I'm going to risk a little story dissection here.
Leia got herself into this mess by acting rashly, therefore she had to get herself out by not letting her emotions get to her head. So you see, it's my fault for putting the story together that way.
A very bittersweet moment, but I really liked how Frozen Han fell over Leia, turning it into an intimate moment (too bad having all that carbonite stuck between them).

Do you want me to write a sequel to this vig? Do you want me to write more Han/Leia stories? Or (and I'm rather hoping this is the case) do you want me to write more stories, period?

Ouch. I was hoping no-one would notice that plot hole.
Since this story is based on the gimmick of having a "conversation" with a Hansicle, I couldn't have Leia unfreeze him (rather like the Energy Wall of Plot Necessity in TPM). Still, I should have come up with something to explain why she didn't.
I still love this story and am jealous that I didn't think of it.

I love that. Seems very realistic to me, that they'd focus more on saving Leia. But Han was right there, and she had to leave him behind! Good thing I know what happens in ROTJ.

I was afraid the last "I know" might be weak (considering it's really Leia's brain that's saying it), but I figured what the heck. Thanks for reading!
