Can you tell I'm part Swedish. Yeah.
I've always thought of Swedish people as having that Nordic blond look...y'know all cool pale hair, fair skin and pale eyes...very cool.
When I saw the picture, yep...that did strike me, Pete.
And I'm glad the thread is alive too..I have missed you guys. Sabine and I do meet up all over the place but this is one place I see you post.
Whats this Christmas thread thing? Where do I find it?
I must know.
And know about it, you shall. As soon as I see a wishlist thread up, I'll tell you guys about it and send you a link.
In fact I think there are some Christmas threads up already.
I haven't posted yet coz I want to get the exam out of the way first.
Does it really take a year for them to get to Sri Lanka?
Yes and no, Pete. The bootleg stuff arrives real quick. For example I know the seasons of Smallville that I want to get will arrive here as soon as they do in the UK. But for original DVDs of the SW Old Trilogy, it might take a while, coz lots of people here are not as big SW fans as...well I am for instance.
Plus I'm a girl so that's a rare combo!
I know people who watch AOTC and go..."Right so why is eps 3 coming after eps 6?" and i'm like "Weeeeelll, here we go again!"
When I need to get some stuff like exercise videos and my LOTR DVDs, I got a friend of mine to buy them outside and she sent them through her brother or dad.
Sabine, I could get the OT down but I have already asked for some stuff so that's due soon...perhaps after that I'll get the OT...or hope that when it arrives here in Original form, it won't be to expensive!
Thanks, Pash, for converting
NO probs...it's cool that we are around the same height...though I do suspect that you're abit taller than me, Sabine.
One thing that came to my mind when I read all your posts is, that I would like to meet you all one day
Tell me about it!
That's something that has always been in my mind. If ever I came to Europe I'd definitely want to meet the European FFers that I know, Sabine. Gosh there's you, Jules, Jean (ofcourse she might not there for long
), Niklas is travelling but I'd love to see him, Nina and Vanessa and Maja. Hmm, did I miss anyone?
Pete, you're in the USA...argh, my chances of going to the USA are slim but you might meet some of our gang if they all go for the Celebration 3 thingy...or other SW conventions.
Sabine, I always find it cool how hair colour changes for people with fair air. How is that?
Phew...looong post!

Yes, Sabine I was born in the US. But my grandmother is from
Sweden. I have visited Sweden one time. For about a month.
I have quite a few relatives there.
I do plan to meet Nina and her group at C3.
I promised Gaiatha I would bring stuff for smore's
because none of them knew what Graham crackers were.
Do you know what smore's are?

Pete, I think you look more "Swedish" than I do... I do have blue eyes, but I'm not blond...
Oh, and I'm not tall and busty and called Ulla either, like all Swedish girls in american movies...
Pash, it would be so fun to meet you someday! Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can do that someday.
Christmas... I love Christmas. Soon it's December and we can start counting the days until the 24th (which is the day we celebrate Christmas in Sweden). But first we have to live through November, the darkest month here. It usually rains, and we get hardly any sunlight at all... but when the snow comes I'll be happy again!
I love snow... and it really gives me the feeling of Christmas. A Christmas without snow isn't really a "real" Christmas for me...
Oooh, and I must bake all the special Christmas cookies and candies and stuff... and decorate the house...

Ah, I know not all Swedish people have blue eyes and blond hair.
Lots of my relatives don't. But me and my sister got the blond hair
and blue eyes genes.
Besides I think red hair is quite amazing. I only know a few
people with red hair. So I think your hair is very nice Nina.
And you are right, Christmas without snow is horrible. Sorry Pash
but it really is. Have you ever seen snow Pash?

Phew...looong post!
That is exactly what I thought when I say your post, Pash!
"Right so why is eps 3 coming after eps 6?"
Interesting question!
Why is it so...
Could you explain that, Pash, please?
You make me curious. Do you have a pic of you somewhere online?
If ever I came to Europe I'd definitely want to meet the European FFers that I know, Sabine. Gosh there's you, Jules, Jean (ofcourse she might not there for long ), Niklas is travelling but I'd love to see him, Nina and Vanessa and Maja.
Sounds like a European Meeting with a really nice visitor of Sri Lanka.
It would be great. But somehow I would like to see Sri Lanka, too.
But I am not sure if I ever will be able to go there.
Sabine, I always find it cool how hair colour changes for people with fair air. How is that?
How is that...
Good question. I never notice the change. But when you are older and look at old pictures, there will be a time you will recognise that your hair colour changed. Sometimes I like my brown hair and sometimes I wish it would be a bit more blond. And I liked it when I was at the north sea and my hair becomes lighter again.
That was cool!
("was" because I don't go to the north sea anymore.)
Ah, thanks, Pete.
"Graham Crackers"... I remember that discussion.
Oh, yeah, and the same as every year here in Germany (Cologne/Köln)... Hoping for a white christmas.
Btw does anyone know if their exists some kind of advent calendar here in the JC/FF? It would be cool, if something like that exist.
Oh, and may I quote you, Pash?
"Phew...looong post!"
Edit:
Ok, not as long as your post.

Hi Gang, great to see this thread alive & kicking once again
Sooo much to talk about though
I'll start with hair....when I was very, very young my hair was very, very blonde. My Mum still has a lock of my hair and I'm amazed by how blonde it actually was, it's almost white
But now it's brown. It goes a bit lighter in the summer, but depends on how much sun I catch which is never a great deal
It would be great to meet you one day Pash
I will be meeting with Nina and Pete and many others next year, which I'm looking very much forward to I must say. And of cause I got to meet Sabine this year along with many others
I'm still thinking what Arsenal gifts to get you Pete, so don't worry I haven't forgotten. And I look forward to tasting some Graham Crackers, as long as Graham doesn't mind
Christmas should be good this year, but I actually hope it doesn't snow but that's because I have lots of driving to do, and this country just doesn't cope well with snow
We usually get snow in February though, so I think I might get lucky. But I hope Köln has a white Christmas this year Sabine
Nina, do you really celebrate Christmas on the 24th??? I never knew that and I find that very interesting....so you get to open your presents a day before us, not fair

Hello Matt!
Yep, we met at the Jedi-Con. It was cool.
Normaly we get some snow, too, but mostly only some snow flakes and if we are very lucky the ground will be covered a little bit by snow. But usually it isn't at christmas.
But thanks!
Oh, and we celebrate christmas on the 24th, too.
We start it in the evening when it is dark.
My family starts with turning on the lights of the christmas tree when it is dark, then unpacking all the presents and then it is dinner time. Yummy!

Yeah, the 24th... okay, a small account of the typical Christmas in my house (and it's practically the same in all of Sweden).
We wake up in the morning, look at all the presents under the tree and try to refrain from shaking them trying to figure out what's in them. Then we eat the traditional Christmas breakfast, which is rice porridge with sugar and cinnamon. After that, at about 11am, we go to church to watch the Christmas play there, where they tell the story of baby Jesus and such. It's very nice, I used to love it as a kid and I still think it's very beautiful.
Then we get home, and start preparing the Christmas food, and then we eat. We usually have a big ham, sausages, swedish meatballs, pickled herring, grilled ribs, potatoes and stuff like that. The more, the better!
After the food comes the part of Swedish Christmas that most people find very curious. At 3pm, everyone in Sweden sits down in front of the TV to watch... Donald Duck! Yep, it's a tradition ever since they showed it the first time in the 50s. Anyway, after Donald the grownups want coffee, and the kids start whining about opening the Christmas presents. By now it's dark outside, and very cozy with the lights from the tree and candles... and finally, the grownups declare that they've had enough coffee, and the presents can be opened. In some families Santa comes with the presents, but in my family it's always been the kids handling them out.
Well, and then everyone is tired and we just try out our new things and take it easy, perhaps watching something on tv.
*sigh* I really look forward to Christmas now, with typing all this...
But before Christmas we have Lucia, which I can tell you about when we come closer to that...

Well, Pash if you ever travel to Europe let me know and maybe
I can visit Europe also. Then we can all meet in like France or
something.
I'll remember the Graham Crackers.
Looking forward to the Arsenal gifts. I'll have to think
of other presents to bring also. I'm starting to realize that
this C3 thing is going to be very expensive for me. There's the
ticket, hotel, presents, gas money, who knows what else.
I'm not going to have any money left for college.
That sounds like a nice christmas Nina.
I actually celebrate christmas on the 24th also. We go to my
grandmothers since she is from Sweden. Then we usually celebrate
the next day also.
By the way, we had our first snow fall today. Yippy Skippy.

Wow, the whole day is planned. But it sounds interesting, Nina!
A propros meeting each other...
I have dreamed last night, that you, Pash, came to Germany and we had a great time. Ok, I just dreamed the first few hours, but we had fun.
There were some other people around, but I don't know who they were.
Seems I really like that idea of meeting each other.

Aiyooo, look at the number of posts I've missed!
Let me catch up!
Warning-loooong post ahead!
Meeting up with all of you sounds great!
Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can do that someday.
Indeed Nina...if I was in Europe it then we all have to!
Oooh, and I must bake all the special Christmas cookies and candies and stuff... and decorate the house...
Oh you're reminding me of the stuff mom and I make!
We make Christmas cake every year and then I decorate the tree and help mom wrap the gifts. Mom will probably start making the cake early coz the longer it matures the richer it will taste.
Yummers!
Christmas without snow is horrible. Sorry Pash
but it really is. Have you ever seen snow Pash?
Nope.
No snow Pete, just a little cold weather or rainy weather. But I'd love to see snow...to make those snow angels!
I have always wanted to do that!
And throw snowballs...erm, excuse me.
Sabine, you're wicked...heheh, you're teasing me back!
You make me curious. Do you have a pic of you somewhere online?
Yes I do, but forgive it's fuzziness.
Someone scanned it for me but didn't do a great job. It's a regular pic that was scanned and I must upload these again as well as new ones.
Sounds like a European Meeting with a really nice visitor of Sri Lanka
Aww,
thanks hon.
It would be great if you ever came to Sri Lanka. I think you'd like the tropical weather.
Interesting about the hair colour and how it changes... *sigh* Mine is always the same.
I think it does look darker than when I was younger because i oil it more now. When I was swimming the chlorine used to play the merry devil with it.
Matt you had blonde hair? I thought you'd always been dark haired...that's the impression I got from your DVD film. BTW, the Jason Connery resemblance is spooky so if you had blonde hair back then it would have been like you guys were clones!
Matt, I look forward to when I can meet you too.
Would be cool..we could drive each other nuts discussing
Smallville
!
Lucky bunch... coz some of you will be meeting up.
Nina!
You are officially making me hungry!
Argh!
j/k. Sounds yummy all right.
Mom gets a Brueder for us to eat on Christmas morning. Did I spell that right? I think Sabine can correct me coz it's probably a German word, yes?
I enjoy a slice with some butter or Jam, just before we rush off for morning service at church. Goodness, might be singing in the choir this year!
Well, Pash if you ever travel to Europe let me know and maybe I can visit Europe also. Then we can all meet in like France or something.
Sounds cool, Pete.
If this bunch met up in real life it would be fun!
Oh, Pete what are smores? I'm not sure if I remember...
I have dreamed last night, that you, Pash, came to Germany and we had a great time. Ok, I just dreamed the first few hours, but we had fun.
Sweet!
Sabine it would be so great to meet up with the gang. We've all been getting on so brilliantly here at the JC, meeting up in RL would be cool!
*looks at post*
Wow!
Seriously loooong!

RE: ~*~*The Social Thread-Asia/Africa edition-All are welcome*~*~
I still think it’s too early to start talking about Christmas, but I guess not really as it’s only 6 weeks away. And I haven’t bought any presents yet
I’m amazed by how much I’ve learnt about Chritsmas in other countires from this thread....I had no idea that many opened their presents on the 24th.
We have to wait until the morning of the 25th before we can open ours
And I love the fact you watch Donald Duck at 3:00pm Nina, that’s when we have the Queen’s speech on the 25th, so quite a contrast I think, hehe.
A traditional dinner is roast Turkey with chipolata sausages, vegetables and roast potatoes....yummy!!
W e also have some Gammon and roast beef, and I’m the one that cooks it all because I actually enjoy doing it (and eating it)
Good luck with the Cake Pash, the sooner it gets made the better it will be
I love having Christmas log during the holiday....now I’m getting hungry
We rarely get snow on Christmas day, and like you Sabine, if we do it will only be a few snowflakes
I’d love to experience a full-on white christmas one day.
I’m trying to think if there’s anything I’d like you to bring for C3 Pete, but I’ll let you know if I can think of anything. We are quite lucky now because there has been a demand for more American sweets in this country so a few specialality shops have cropped up selling American sweets which is great.
And it will be expensive but well worth it
I have most things sorted now too so I can relax a bit .
Yes Pash, between the ages of 0-4 I had blonde hair. It’s odd looking at pictures of me back then because it doesn’t seem quite right. My hair turned brown naturally, so Jason Connery need not worry
And if we were to meet Pash I’m sure we could spend all day talking about
Smallville
, but that might be a bit unfair on everyone else but at least we’ve given them fair warning
My post doesn't seem long enough compared to the rest, lol.

Ah, Snow is wonderful Pash. Snow angels are a blast to make.
Hopefully you see snow one day. Its very cold though. It sometimes
reaches about 40 below here.
Smores are Graham crackers with chocolate and roasted marshmellows.
But this explanation only helps if you know what Graham crackers
are. The others didn't so you might not either.
Yeah, Matt and Nina, if there's anything else you want me to bring
just ask. Maybe some T-shirts that say I heart NY.

I still think it’s too early to start talking about Christmas...
Ah, but I wish it lasted longer and that it didn't take long to get to it every year...
Heheh, it is early but once my exams over it will b at our doorstep.
Christmas pressies...
We open them on the 25th...at least at my house that's what happens. If we go to my aunts on the 24th evening (she's my dad's younger sister) then she sometimes gives me my present at midnight and her kids and I open ours then.
But on other occasions I've got it when they came over for dinner on the 25th. Mom used to make Christmas lunch every year on the 25th but it was tiring for her and since it's her day she likes to have the day off.
Yep my mom's birthday is on Christmas day so she's a Christmas baby and her name's Noeline.
Donald Duck
Vs the Queens speech.
Heheh, that is a contrast all right, Matt.
We usually have different Christmas programmes every year. the channels will probably line up some movies and specials...that will be nice to watch when I'm home.
I love the musicals etc...Christmas carols...yay!
Speaking of Carols, we are practicing for the church Christmas musical on the 19th of December. Solos have not been given out yet though I'd love to audition. I'm new at this church so I don't really know what's going on at the moment...I hope everything has not been assigned already.
We're doing some funky songs...so that should be fun.
I hope the cake goes well too, Matt.
Thanks I'll tell mom.
Yummy...it's a lovely treat to have with tea even post Chrismas. Getting hungrier now, Matt?
Christmas log...
Matt, is that like Yule log?
Swiss roll with chocolate and stuff?
Ohh...gorgeous.
My hair turned brown naturally, so Jason Connery need not worry
Cute...aww, but I'm sure you are still a charmer, Matt...
Smallville
oh for sure. Warning has been given. Ah but I think we wil all get on like a house on fire.
Y'know I've never understood how people get on like a "house on fire". I mean...hello, does that make sense?
Pete, snow angels really are as cool as I've seen on TV? I think that's the first thing I'll do when I see snow!
Hmm, perhaps once I've felt what snow feels like on my fingers and on my face.
Smores are Graham crackers with chocolate and roasted marshmellows
Oh wow...devilish.
Graham crakers...I have heard lots about them, even in my recipe books but I'm not sure what they are like.
Are they different to regular crackers...is it the ingredients or the way they are made?
Okay, I think we will have to rename this thread the "Food Fiesta thread!" coz we're all gonna get really hungry reading this!
Oh and I was supposd to post my fuzzy pic on the previous page and I forgot!
So here's a link. I hope it works.
Me and mom.
It's a pic of me (salmon pink saree) and my mom (turquoise saree). We took it the day my cousin Thushara got married. Soon after the church ceremony we took these in the garden of my dad's office. It's quite blurry so when my exam is over I wil scan these again and put them in a proper album.
